Perhaps it is inevitable, but our granddaughter's arrival gave me a refreshed perspective on one of my favourite descriptions of God. Let me set the scene. Two days had passed since our granddaughter, Talaya, came into this world, and I was about to meet her for the first time. I confess I was tingling as I stood outside the hospital ward, waiting for my chance to hold her. I knew that this moment would change my life. I entered the room and was greeted by the sight of our precious two-day-old Talaya. She was tiny, her eyes still adjusting to the world around her. My daughter and son-in-law offered Talaya to me and I gingerly picked her up. Automatically, without thought, I began to hum a traditional nursery rhyme to her. Talaya's tiny eyelids grew heavy. She settled into my arms and fell asleep. It was magical. In that moment, I couldn't help but recall a passage from Zephaniah: "The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love, he will no longer rebuke you but will rejoice over you with singing" (Zephaniah 3:17 NIV11). As I sang to Talaya, I felt a profound connection between this verse and our experience. Just as I sang nursery rhymes over my granddaughter, I realised that our Heavenly Father sings over us with love and joy. Singing over someone is an intimate act. He takes delight in us, just as I took delight in my granddaughter. I continue to sing over Talaya at every opportunity. In those moments, I feel an unbreakable bond between us, a bond rooted in love. It is a tangible reminder of God's love for each of us, His children. It's a reminder that God's love for us is like that of a grandparent holding their precious grandchild—overflowing with delight, tenderness, and an unending melody of love. Conclusion What does knowing that God delights to sing over you mean to you? What songs do you think he might sing? Please add your comments on this week's topic.
Sometimes in life, our purpose finds us – when we least expect it and seemingly out of the blue. That is the story of our guest, Talaya Dendy, today. It's a beautiful illustration of turning adversity into serving others. In addition to that, we discuss how mindset can affect the healing process, how to be your own advocate when you are a patient – or when your loved one is a patient, how we can be our healthiest and have greater levels of well-being. It's so practical and some of it may surprise you. Grandpa Bill today welcomes Guest, Talaya Dendy, Founder and CEO of On the Other Side, Cancer Doula and Cancer Thriver. I am a ten-year Cancer Thriver. I overcame Hodgkins Lymphoma which included enduring chemotherapy and radiation treatments and the ups-and-downs of cancer. While going through my cancer journey, I noticed that there was a gap. Something was missing. I had a great oncologist and healthcare team. However, once I left the doctor's office, there was not a whole lot of emotional support. Although I had the support of my family, they had a hard time understanding what I was feeling. I want to help others take care of the emotional side of cancer because most cancer patients don't have anyone that they can confide in or anyone who knows what it is like to have cancer. I became a cancer doula because I do not want anyone to feel like they are alone and misunderstood. I want to use my experience and ongoing learning to help others conquer the challenges of cancer, it's diagnosis, its treatment, and the “secret” side effects that are not usually discussed. What Is a Cancer Doula?About Talaya-Talaya Dendy, BCPA Personal Cancer Doula I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2011. The diagnosis took me by surprise because I considered myself fairly healthy. I rarely got sick. My cancer journey helped me to realize what was truly going on underneath the surface. I was forced to come to terms with the things and people that were causing me stress and unhappiness. I often say that my purpose found me! Cancer helped me to overcome the fear and comfort that was holding me back. https://www.ontheotherside.life/ Navigating Cancer TOGETHER On the Other Sidehttps://www.ontheotherside.life/navigating-cancer-together-podcast Connect with Talaya or invite her to speak: Website: https://www.ontheotherside.life/ Podcast: https://anchor.fm/navigatingcancertogether --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/bhsales/message

Talaya Dendy was diagnosed with Stage 2 Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer in April 2011. Her treatment consisted of 6 months of chemotherapy and a month of radiation therapy. Although Talaya had great oncologists, She noticed a lack of emotional support in her journey. She started an organization known as "On The Other Side". She provides emotional support, different concepts about mindset, and communication support to other cancer survivors to get help during their cancer journey. She does meditation, massage therapy and studies bodily connections. She has also made a healing scripture book for herself and read that every day during her journey. Her message to other caregivers and survivors is "Not to be hard on yourself and take one day at a time."
A few highlights: 1. Give your body time to absorb the blow. 2. Take the time that you need for yourself. 3. Have an open conversation with your family and/or the people you trust. Talaya. - "Sola Fide + No Way (feat. Brandon Marsalis & Crissy P)" from the 2021 album Existential Soul on Talaya's Music. “Sola Fide + No Way” is an exemplification in song of a whole new crop of young, self-taught, self-made artists that is currently rising in the Seattle area. The hypnotic track off of Talaya's debut full-length Existential Soul sees the R&B soul songstress team up with rappers Brandon Marsalis of Tacoma and Kent-based Crissy P for a sophisticated and spiritual quest to find the light. An audio engineer by day, Talaya first gained recognition for her vocal prowess at 2020's Sound Off! The 21-and-under competition has been the symbolic birthplace of artists like Naked Giants, Dave B, Emma Lee Toyoda, and Travis Thompson and is seen as one of the main opportunities that young artists in the Northwest can get exposure. Crissy P also falls into that category, as a finalist in 2019's competition and now an activist using his insightful voice on his 2020 debut full-length The East Coordinate to amplify the causes close to his heart. “Is you Christian all the way?” Marsalis ponders on “Sola Fide +No Way,” questioning the intentions behind performative religion. Reflection is big for the 24-year-old artist, who beautifully articulates the big questions in life on his 2019 album Ouroboros. While none of these artists have yet lived a quarter century on this planet, their ability to express larger-than-life concepts bodes very well for the next generation. There is no better way to cap off Black History Month than by celebrating it! Countless explorations can be made when looking at this history. Colonization represents an era of centuries old physical, emotional, and cultural trauma. This is something important to recognize even when looking at it through the lenses of glory. It is because of this same trauma that we were able to highlight the evolution and progression of the black experience as we know it today. Latinx (or latine) folk's identity is in great part black history as well. Afro-latinidad is both Latin American and black history history even if it often gets unacknowledged. We analyzed afro-latinidad from its triangle trade roots and brought up many of the overlapping cultural experiences influenced by the African diaspora. We also took a tour through music history, observing with many examples phonic and solid African diaspora elements that have been incorporated into the most popular genres of today. Finally, we brought the conversation to the present and spotlighted some black excellence who are continuously doing great work. There are many ways to look at history, focusing on it only as it was initially narrated to us is reductive. History is meant to be revisited, rebranded, and reshaped! Matthew Layton presents Studio 1 - Vision Australia Radio's weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view. On this week's show… Transitioning from secondary education to TAFE, university or the workplace is hard enough, but imagine how much harder that must be if you can't see very much - or anything at all. Which is why Vision Australia runs its LEAP program - designed to enable young people aged between 14 and 18, to develop skills that will help them “to set and achieve their goals and get the best vocational outcome” This week, applications open for the 2021 LEAP program - both for young people and potential mentors Matthew talks to Vision Australia's Claire Nolan who gives us an overview of the program Claire brings with her Sam and Talaya who are both taking part in the 2020 program. And we'll be talking to their mentors, Harmonie Downes of Arts Access Australia and some bloke called Matthew Layton who claims he works in radio. "It's great tennis. However, it's so much more than tennis. We have dining from all over the area. We have concerts. We have free events. There's just so much going on." The TENNIS.com Podcast's Nina Pantic and Irina Falconi are in Midland, Mich. this week at the ITF W100 Dow Tennis Classic. They sit down with tournament director Talaya Schilb to talk all things Midland, and also recap the Australian Open. Schilb is a first-time tournament director, but she's not new to the Greater Midland Tennis Center, having worked there since 2004. She explains what makes the week so special as the community rallies around the players, providing housing, sponsorship support and attending the matches by the hundreds. The Australian Open just wrapped and Falconi gives the lowdown on what it was like to be in Melbourne for qualifying when the air quality was at its worst. The co-hosts also break down what is so unique about Sofia Kenin's fighting spirit, if touching an umpire's shoe is really that serious, and why Ashleigh Barty brought her baby niece into press. Happy Holidays! I hope it was filled with an abundance of love, joy and high pitched belly laughs! We made it back to the couch for the final episode of the Couch Conversations series. This is the last episode of the year... wait actually, it’s the last one of this decade. Wow! Well, Talaya and Ayodola made it a special one with an audience Q & A, that led into an intimate conversation on self-care and self-love. We tackled battling guilt, self-sabotage and minding one’s “busyness.” Along with doing a deep dive into how self-love is a huge part of our healing and necessary for our success in the new year, this episode was the perfect close to sharing my brave mountaintop journey. Thank you for coming along for the ride. As a community of brave souls, we want to ensure we serve you. We would love to hear from you, as we are planning content for 2020.
