Ben & Woods kick off the 7am hour by previewing tonight's SDSU game against Colorado, which reminded Ben that the Lady Aztecs play in Colorado later this morning at 10am, and the guys were so curious what PBP man Chris Ello is up to at his hotel in freezing Fort Collins so we give him a call. Then we get to "Don't (And DO) Do This" before we talk some football and how ridiculous it is that Bill Belichick (reportedly) was NOT elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility?? Listen here!
Kristof interviews Benjamin Jewell. This is Part 2 of our latest series to familiarize our industry with the world of hydronics systems and air-to-water heat pumps. In Part 2 we're rejoining the conversation to look at controls - the "central nervous systems" of these hydronics. We're moving beyond old-school mechanical switches to a new class of microprocessor based systems that prioritize "outcomes"—like thermal comfort and air quality—rather than just reacting to thermostat calls. This shift is about adding intelligence that anticipates comfort needs and makes the system more stable and predictable for both the installer and the homeowner .We also dive into the high-stakes world of the global refrigerant transition and how hydronic systems allow a home to become "refrigerant agnostic" and truly future-proofed . We unpack the potential of natural refrigerants like R-290 (propane) and discuss why builders and developers are the key stakeholders in the transition of this product class from high-end homes to the baseline approach for every home that's built. We wrap up by looking at how simplified "kit" solutions are finally removing the traditional barriers of labor and complexity to make hydronics accessible for the mainstream market.Benjamin JewellDirector of Carrier Hydronics NA (Climate Solutions Americas)As the Director of Carrier Hydronics North America within the Climate Solutions Americas division, Ben Jewell leads a multifaceted organization comprising Product, Engineering, and Technical Services teams. His leadership spans the entire product lifecycle, from initial development and long-term strategic planning to the integration of digital tools and portfolio management. Ben is dedicated to stewarding residential and light commercial hydronic products across a diverse range of differentiated brands, driving his team to win every day through innovation and operational excellence. Before joining Carrier, Ben spent over four years as a Senior Product Line Manager for Viessmann Climate Solutions. During this time, he managed extensive portfolios in the residential and light commercial sectors, specializing in heat pumps, chillers, domestic water heating, ventilation, indoor air quality, and air distribution. This deep technical foundation informs his current approach to solving complex climate challenges and delivering high-performance solutions to the market.Beyond his executive responsibilities, Ben is a passionate advocate for mentorship and industry education. He frequently invests his time in sharing resources and supporting those looking to solve tough problems that make the world a better place, including contributing to industry knowledge through podcasting. Driven by the goal of being a proactive force in the world, Ben aims to look back on his career with the confidence that he "happened to the world" by making a tangible, positive impact on the industry and the environment. On a personal level, Ben is a devoted husband and a father to three daughters, a dog owner, and a "food rescue" enthusiast. While he describes himself as an average fly fisherman and perhaps a naturalist in another life, he spends the bulk of his days enjoying what he considers his dream career. His journey has taken him from Iowa City to Milford, Connecticut, and Stony Brook, New York, eventually leading him to his forever home base in Fort Collins, Colorado. A minute-long phone call from an unknown Phoenix number set off a chain of events that brought Garrett Nates back to Colorado to lead a 70-year-old church—and to champion a bold, sustainable plan to plant three new congregations in nine years across Northern Colorado. We open with the story behind that call and zoom out to the forces reshaping Longmont, a city wedged between Boulder and Fort Collins and serving as a gateway to the Rockies, where rapid growth has outpaced the number of healthy, gospel-centered churches.Garrett walks us through his journey: a childhood conversion, a teenage identity wrapped in soccer, and the pivotal moment when being cut from a college team cleared space for calling. He shares how mission trips that used soccer as a platform led to his first experience leading someone to faith, and how mentors at Biola and Wheaton helped him discover gifts for teaching and shepherding. That path wound through a vibrant season in youth and discipleship ministry, then into a lead role at a church embedded on the campus of Miami University, before years of daily prayer led back home to Colorado.Send us a textWe want to help you find your next steps in ministry.Connect here with EXCEL. Jenna Lee Dillon spent her growing up years in Southwest Colorado - in the small town of Mancos - on the way from Durango to Mesa Verde National Park. Her father was in the real estate business - some construction but especially buy, fix, and flip - a decade before it was cool. After high school, she wanted someplace bigger and warmer, which landed her at Arizona State University. Just out of school, Jenna Lee landed a job in marketing - a remote job for a California agency - and she soon evidenced her gutsy personality by starting her own freelance agency on the side, and exploring the most interesting places to live. With stops in Austin, Chicago, Portland, Dublin and Fort Collins before finding her current home in Arvada, Jenna Lee lived the digital nomad lifestyle a decade before it was cool! She's a 6X Founder, and is turning one of her ventures - Screen Freed Revolution - into a non-profit in 2026.In this conversation we explore financial best practices and emotions, the urge to start new things and to run Spartan Races, and discuss why Jenna Lee and her family should move back up to Fort Collins. Episode Summary In this special live episode of the Ninja Selling Podcast, Eric Thompson records in front of a live audience at the first Ninja Installation of 2026 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Eric is joined by Denver agent Dave Hetrick of RE/MAX Professionals and Dave's Ninja Coach, Julie WIll. Dave had his best year yet in 2025, growing his business 62% year over year in a market that was essentially flat, and he broke through a major income milestone by earning just over $300,000 for the year. The central theme of the conversation is flow, specifically hyper flow, and how Dave creates massive results without asking for referrals. Dave is known in the coaching community as Mr. Gratitude, and he shares how leading every coaching call with wins and gratitude keeps him in a powerful mindset that helps him see opportunities, stay positive, and show up better for clients. Eric and Julie highlight that Dave's breakthrough came as he learned to trust the process, lean into consistency, and stay committed to incremental progress rather than perfection. Dave explains how he has structured his life around live flow through intentional networking groups, coffees, lunches, and social time with friends, turning everyday connection into a predictable business engine. He shares how he built clarity and focus by knowing his numbers, maintaining a database of 426 people, and identifying a top 100 "client base" who receive extra attention and meaningful experiences such as an intimate annual pie party. He also shares the strategy that made his pie party so effective, emphasizing that the real power is in the touches before and after the event, including calls, texts, handwritten notes, and personal deliveries. Julie shares how Dave's growth accelerated when he stopped rushing out of conversations to handle lower value tasks, and instead stayed present in relationship building while delegating operational and marketing tasks to his wife, Christine, who now works full time in the business. Dave closes by sharing his 2026 goal of 95 transactions, along with the visual accountability anchors he is using, and the creation of a "President's Club" travel reward system that celebrates their success and reinforces the life they are building. Key Takeaways Gratitude is a performance advantage and Dave uses it intentionally to fuel mindset, energy, and opportunity awareness Trusting the process creates momentum and Dave's results grew when he stopped forcing what he thought he should do and committed to what works consistently Flow fixes everything and live flow in particular becomes a predictable engine when it is scheduled and protected on the calendar Hyper flow does not require asking for referrals when relationships are nurtured with genuine care and consistent connection Incremental progress beats perfection and Dave does not miss twice because anything missed gets scheduled and corrected the following week Know your numbers because your database is your primary asset and Dave can immediately state his database size and what matters most within it Focus on a top 100 client base and give them extra love through deeper experiences and more intentional touches Events work best when you maximize the before and after touches because invitations, reminders, thank you calls, notes, and follow up visits create multiple flow opportunities Personal delivery creates outsized impact and Dave generated seven referrals from delivering cookies and handwritten notes to people who could not attend his event Networking groups are only the beginning and the real value comes from turning brief interactions into coffees, lunches, dinners, and deeper relationships Delegation increases flow capacity and Dave's wife took over tasks that do not require a license, freeing Dave to stay in high value conversations A strong warm list is built by listening for change in FORD and Dave is consistently adding people each week because he is in frequent live conversation Anchors increase accountability and a simple visual reminder can keep a goal present and actionable every day Coaching becomes leverage when it shifts from cost thinking to value thinking and when the cadence is customized to what keeps momentum alive Memorable Quotes It was not a strategy. It was a way of life Trust the process The most powerful form of flow is live flow Consistency and just doing the same things every week If you miss it once it is a mistake, miss it twice it is the start of a new habit Consistency brings power It is not just about the event, it is about what happens before and after the event What is it worth, not what does it cost Links: Website: https://ninjaselling.com/ninja-podcast/ Email: TSW@NinjaSelling.com Phone: 1-800-254-1650 Podcast Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/TheNinjaSellingPodcast Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/NinjaSelling Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ninjasellingofficial/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/ninjaselling Upcoming Public Ninja Installations: https://NinjaSelling.com/events/list/?tribe_eventcategory%5B0%5D=183&tribe__ecp_custom_2%5B0%5D=Public Ninja Coaching: http://www.NinjaSelling.com/course/ninja-coaching/

This week on The Bend Show: hiking headlines, we report on a deadly mountain lion attack and then how a drone delivered hope to a stranded hiker. Plus a blast from the past nostalgia. Retro fun—from “Rad” vs “6–7” to Red Rover and rotary phones—could Gen Z figure them out? Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka ‘BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Deadly Mountain Lion Attack Shocks Hiking Community Authorities have ended the search for mountain lions after a solo hiker was fatally attacked on a remote Colorado trail near Rocky Mountain National Park. The victim was identified as 46-year-old Kristen Marie Kovatch of Fort Collins. She was found dead on New Year's Day along the Crosier Mountain Trail, southeast of the small community of Glen Haven. Two hikers discovered her body around noon and reported seeing a mountain lion nearby, which they scared off by throwing rocks. One of the hikers, a physician, tried to help but could not find a pulse. An autopsy confirmed Kovatch died from asphyxia caused by compression to her neck. The Larimer County Coroner ruled her death an accident, saying her injuries were consistent with a mountain lion attack. It was Colorado's first fatal mountain lion attack since the late 1990s and only the fourth reported in North America over the past decade. Wildlife officers killed two mountain lions in the area later that day. Officials say one of the animals, a male, had human DNA on its paws. A third lion was reportedly seen, but after four days of searching with no further evidence, authorities called off the effort and reopened nearby trails. Kovatch's family described her as an ultramarathon runner who loved hiking and Colorado's public lands. Wildlife officials note there have been several mountain lion encounters in the region in recent months, including attacks on dogs and a runner who fought off a lion last fall. Colorado is home to an estimated 3,800 to 4,400 mountain lions, which are rarely aggressive toward humans but can pose a risk in isolated areas. Reference https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/search-ends-mountain-lions-after-hiker-fatally-attacked-128928116 Drone Delivers Lifeline to Stranded Hiker In a first-of-its-kind rescue, Phoenix firefighters used a delivery drone to help a stranded hiker on Camelback Mountain in Arizona last month. The hiker was spotted in the evening, just after 8 p.m., waving for help from the rocky Camel's Head area. With darkness setting in and the terrain too dangerous to navigate at night, rescuers knew they couldn't reach him until morning. Instead of leaving him without help, the Phoenix Fire Department launched a weight-bearing drone. The drone flew supplies directly to the mountaintop, delivering a cell phone, food, water, and a blanket to keep the hiker safe and comfortable overnight. Camelback Mountain sees dozens of rescues every year, often due to extreme heat and difficult trails. Until now, firefighters relied mostly on helicopters and ground crews. But drones—originally introduced in 2022 for wildfire monitoring—are changing how rescues are handled. The department's drones use thermal imaging and can carry up to six pounds. Each drone costs about $15,000, but firefighters say the technology is already proving its value. Crews were able to make multiple quick supply drops during the night—something that would have taken much longer on foot. Phoenix Fire officials say this mission highlights their commitment to using new technology to protect both firefighters and the public, and they plan to keep expanding how drones are used in future rescues. Ryan Sutter's name is usually connected with a reality TV show, but before the phrase "Trista and Ryan" became a household phrase, Ryan was a Vail firefighter who grew up in Fort Collins, played football at the University of Colorado as a walk on and was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens. His NFL career didn't last very long, in fact on the field it was just a few seconds of a regular season game and jumping around to a few teams. Ryan also played in NFL Europe before calling it quits and becoming a fire fighter in Vail. Then the rest of his story began as a friend volunteered his name to be a contestant on a new show called the Bachelorette. He had no interest in being on a reality TV show, but went to Los Angeles anyway. Turns out he was the last one standing and married Trista in a lavish made-for-TV wedding. Today Ryan is a Denver firefighter, he and Trista are navigating raising two teenagers and are still getting pulled back into reality TV appearances here and there. This Advent hymn has withstood the test of time, sung for centuries and still echoing here in Fort Collins, Colorado. The main theme it proclaims is that Jesus, our Savior, has come to release us from the captivity of sin and from Satan, our enemy. And our response is simple: rejoice!
February 11th, 1987. Fort Collins, Colorado. The body of 37-year-old Peggy Hettrick was found in a field. She had been stabbed and mutilated. There were multiple suspects, but the police focused on 15-year-old Timothy Masters, who found the body but failed to report it initially. Brett Kemp is the President of Flood & Peterson, an employee-owned insurance brokerage since 1939, and the strongest market share among property & casualty insurance brokerages in the region. With career chapters in the Air Force, pharmaceutical sales, and manufacturing, Brett was a darkhorse candidate for ascendance to leadership. Aaron Eide visited Fort Collins almost exactly 25 years (to the day!) before we recorded this podcast. He's a UND graduate and came through the same Credit and Management Training program at Community First National Bank as yours truly - only a few semesters later. Aaron had come out to scout out an apartment and see the town before moving to Fort Collins weeks later. I gave him the nickel tour, took him out to see some live music at Lucky Joe's and then to Elliot's Martini Bar - and we don't remember much after that! But/and - though we only worked together for about a year and in different offices - we've maintained a professional relationship through all these years, and that's part of the theme of today's podcast. Brett's prior experience in the military, and in manufacturing, and likewise Aaron's career in credit and banking gave them added perspective on business and risk - and especially, people - that propelled their career growth. Lot's of great business and relationship sales content in this one, and a bit of inside-baseball on the insurance industry, and three guys who all moved to the region in a short span of time - giving us a shared perspective - and so please enjoy, as I did, my conversation with Brett Kemp and Aaron Eide.
