Abner Haynes was dealing with racism in sports most of his life growing up in North Texas where he broke the color barrier at North Texas State University and then organized a player boycott of the AFL All Star game in 1965 when he had had enough of unequal treatment for Black players. And he had the clout to do it. Haynes earned Rookie of the Year honors with the AFL's Dallas Texans in 1960, leading the league in rushing with 875 yards. Haynes would go on to set AFL records for TDs in a game (5), TDs in a season (19) and career TDs (46). Following the boycott, the Chiefs let him go, and he spent one season rushing for the Denver Broncos (1965-1966). Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
