THE CHIEFS JUST SENT A MESSAGE TO THE ENTIRE NFL…JV breaks down the Kansas City Chiefs' dominant 31-10 Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos and explains why Kansas City might have completely reinvented itself heading into 2026. Instead of relying on Patrick Mahomes to carry the offense through the air, Andy Reid leaned heavily into a physical ground-and-pound attack led by Kenneth Walker, who absolutely exploded in his Chiefs debut with 173 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries while adding another touchdown through the air. Walker looked like a legitimate top-five running back, displaying elite speed, acceleration, vision, contact balance, and explosiveness, while Emmett Johnson flashed serious potential behind him and gave Kansas City a dangerous one-two punch out of the backfield. Mahomes wasn't perfect through the air, finishing with 184 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, but his mobility coming off an ACL injury was incredibly encouraging, including a 15-yard rushing touchdown that sent Arrowhead into a frenzy. More importantly, Mahomes no longer looked like he needed to create everything himself because Kansas City finally had a dominant rushing attack supporting him. Defensively, Steve Spagnuolo once again showed why he remains one of the NFL's elite defensive minds, as the Chiefs consistently pressured Bo Nix, blanketed Denver's weapons in coverage, and completely shut down an offense that added Jalen Waddle to an already talented group. On Denver's side, JV breaks down a disastrous offensive performance from Bo Nix and new play caller Davis Webb, questionable decisions to abandon a run game that was actually finding success, costly turnovers, penalties, drops, poor execution in the red zone, and an inability to consistently get Courtland Sutton involved. Denver's defense wasn't much better, struggling to tackle and repeatedly getting punished by Kansas City's running backs as the game slipped away.
