SINGER SUNDAY: We all can sing or are at least familiar with the concept, but what about after you start getting better and better at it and you want to take it to the next level? It might sound silly, but at that point you need to start paying attention more to your breathing then what run you want to do next. Whether it be before every line of a song or simply when you feel like you don't have enough air to sing the next part, being mindful of using your lungs is probably the most important aspect of getting even better at singing.
SONGWRITER SATURDAY: Songs have an interesting way of being created. They can be written with a group or just one person, with one instrument or a whole orchestra, but one thing that doesn't really change is the spark before the fire. That spark determines what that small idea is and how it will ignite a whole slew of parts for a finished song.
FOUR/FOUR FRIDAY: We check out none other than the 7/4 time signature in this episode of 4/4 Friday and it's a doozy! I love playing and writing in 7 so this will definitely go down as one of my favorites in this series. Per the podcast, here is the link of most of the songs that were highlighted from Spotify as well... https://open.spotify.com/user/cerebralmetalhead/playlist/6bDrilTRBxmhrfVfAC98s1?
THEORY THURSDAY: We wanted to bridge the gap between our Patreon and our podcast by going over some number system homework we posted on our Patreon page back on April 11th. We believe it's under our first tier of membership so if you can't see it, don't worry! You'll be able to hear the questions and answer audibly here, but please go check out our Patreon as soon as you can to see if we might be able to add more value to you in a more one-on-one way. LET US SUPPORT YOU BY SUPPORTING US: www.patreon.com/onlywaytoplay LIKE, SUBSCRIBE & FOLLOW US: www.youtube.com/OnlyWayToPlay www.linkedin.com/company/OnlyWayToPlay www.facebook.com/OnlyWayToPlay www.instagram.com/OnlyWayToPlay www.twitter.com/OnlyWayToPlay www.pinterest.com/OnlyWayToPlay www.twitch.tv/OnlyWayToPlay And as always, thanks for listening, but don't forget to rate and review this podcast! We would love to hear your thoughts and what you think :-)
WORSHIP WEDNESDAY: You may have never thought of this aspect as a singer, musician or worship leader in your worship team, but it is a very important part that everyone needs to know if you think you have any future in worship leading at a church.
TECH TUESDAY: We had the privilege of getting some behind the scenes audio from a local Orange County church talking about what they use for their lyrics, slides and equipment in their sound booth! EASY WORSHIP: https://www.easyworship.com MOTION WORSHIP: http://www.motionworship.com MONOPRICE: https://www.monoprice.com
MUSIC BUSINESS MONDAY: We'd all like to say that we can make a living simply off of our music, but that is never the case for 99% of us. We go over the history of selling CDs/Cassettes, the introduction to the iPod/iTunes, our current world of streaming music and all how it has affected our means of making money from music. At the end of the day, you'd be much better off making money from something that has nothing to do with making music and more so on the brand you create which facilitates your creations.
SINGER SUNDAY: In this day and age, it has become a standard for anyone and everyone to use auto-tune on their vocals. When it started, it was just to correct some bad notes, but now it is used as not only a automatic plugin for vocals, but also has an instrument from artists like T-Pain. Depending on what genre you sing and/or what your goals are as a singer, odds are you will be incorporating it into your music unless you plan on becoming the next Kurt Cobain!
SONGWRITER SATURDAY: We've written a lot of music in our day, but one of those most difficult yet gratifying is worship music. Whether for your children's ministry to the main service, there's a process you can go through to narrow down your writing style for your church and we highly recommend this method if you are looking to start writing your next worship album.
FOUR/FOUR FRIDAY: For this podcast, we look at a handful of different examples for the time signature 5/4. We were pleasantly surprised to find a playlist on Spotify that included a lot of our favorite songs in this time signature. Check it out below... https://open.spotify.com/user/12168486182/playlist/6apQENAFLMfsunjdcUz1oG
THEORY THURSDAY: We mix it up a little bit with our theory Thursday podcast series by discussing what we've already introduced with none other than @arielthelittle!!!! We discuss using a staff to read and write, the number system and also how others that we mentor or have in our bands can implement the Nashville number system as well.
WORSHIP WEDNESDAY: We echo some of what we discussed last week by discussing the reality of what your team needs to focus on when it comes to worship and don't just think about the "go-to" aspects of worshipping on-stage, but more the creative ways to worship off-stage. Yes, it can be the admin side of worship or cleaning up your PCO song database, but it could also be volunteering in other aspects of your church, helping the youth build something for their ministry or simply just greeting those who walking into the four ways of the church.
TUNING TUESDAY: We introduce this podcast series by talking about what our tunings are and how you can use them in your own music career. This is probably one of the most important topics of our company and we are super excited to reveal all aspects of it on this series of the podcast.
MUSIC BUSINESS MONDAY: Even though we've mentioned it before, we do a deeper dive into the reasons why the only class in college we didn't get an "A" in was music business and why it took us 5-10 years to learn from that mistake!
SINGER SUNDAY: We know it sounds like common sense, but there's definitely more to the statement. As much as we'd like to say as long as you sing ever day you could become the next Ariana Grande, that simply is not the case. You have to envision the crowd, the band, the noise and use it to perfect your singing. The more you do that, the more you will become the singer you were meant to be!
SONGWRITER SATURDAY: We discuss the good, the bad and the ugly of songwriter splits. From writing with your own band to being hired by a publishing company to write songs, songwriter splits are an inevitable part of the process of being a songwriter so don't just assume that everyone is going to have the some approach as you might.
4/4 FRIDAY: On our second Friday podcast series, we talk about the second most used time signature in western music which is 3/4 or what we simply think as the Waltz. We talk about all the different time signatures that apply to playing in three and even listen to a view different examples in some different genres.
THEORY THURSDAY: Piggy backing off of last weeks intro to number system, we are introducing another partner in crime...ear training! Whether you sing or have never sang a note, you can definitely learn something from this intro to ear training.
WORSHIP WEDNESDAY: We look at what it realistically takes to build up a worship team on and off the stage. Most of your volunteers won't fit into the musician/singer position so we talk about where you can utilize them and make them fulfill their calling.
TECH TUESDAY: We introduce this series with a overview of the process of using Planning Center Online, downloading tracks from YouTube, changing the keys of songs in Garageband and using Multitracks as a reference in the process.
MUSIC BUSINESS: As we introduce this new series, we set the tone for what the podcast will be and how you can benefit from something like this for your career in music.
SINGER SUNDAY: We introduce this new series by giving our own personal journey learning, applying and perfecting singing in the real world. Everyone's story is different, but if you take anything for this podcast it's the only way to get better at singing...is singing!
SONGWRITER SATURDAY: We discuss the different types of ways you can consistently write songs including co-writing with others, writing with bands, changing instruments and even writing in different styles. SUPPORT US ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/onlywaytoplay
FOUR FOUR FRIDAY: If this series title doesn't make sense, don't worry! The 4/4 implies the time signatures we use everyday when we play, learn and write music so for this podcast day, we will be discussing all the different types that exist and how you can use them in your music. We start off the series talking about the title track by going over common time! SUPPORT US ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/onlywaytoplay
THEORY THURSDAY: We give a crash course to the Nashville number system, how it applies to chord progressions and what formula to use to make sense of it all. SUPPORT US ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/onlywaytoplay
WORSHIP LEADER WEDNESDAY: Not everyone has to go through an audition process to lead worship at your home church, but when you do make that transition to become a worship leader as your job, you will definitely go through the ropes from other churches. Everything from how many songs to pick to what questions they may ask you one-on-one is brought up here so if you have any interest in making worship leading a career of yours, you should definitely listen to this.
MUSIC MONDAY: We return to our #MusicMonday podcast with the band Tool to talk about their history, musicianship, but also their recent return! Excited for what they will bring to the music world in 2019!
THEORY THURSDAY: A new series to the @OnlyWayToPlay podcast and it's the place for us to talk about everything from music theory, ear training, how chords are built and the like. If you need a resource to be introduced to new theories in music, this is the podcast day to check out.
