On today's Quick Start podcast: Pastor Jason Noble revisits the astonishing real-life miracle behind the 2019 film "Breakthrough." In 2015, 14-year-old John Smith fell through an icy lake in St. Louis and was declared dead for over an hour. But everything changed when his mother, Joyce, walked into the hospital room and boldly prayed, “Holy Spirit, bring my son back to life.” Plus, watch CBN's new documentary, "Investigating the Supernatural: Miracles" here: cbn.com/supernatural SHOW LINKS JESUS AND THE PROPHECIES OF CHRISTMAS : https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jesus-and-the-prophecies-of-christmas/id1783607035 NEWSMAKERS POD: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/newsmakers/id1724061454 DC DEBRIEF POD: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/d-c-debrief/id1691121630 CBN News YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@CBNnewsonline CBN News https://www2.cbn.com/news Faithwire https://www.faithwire.com

In this special Album Dive episode, I'm joined by Cody Hanson, drummer and founding member of Hinder, to celebrate the release of their brand-new album “Back To Life” and reflect on the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough debut, “Extreme Behavior.” We dive deep into: The evolution of Hinder's sound over the past 20 years The story behind their unreleased 2020 album Releasing “Back To Life” through Evil Teen Records How music streaming platforms impact their album and single releases Crafting setlists that balance hits, fan favorites, and new songs The band's unique approach to cover songs, including Eddie Money's “Take Me Home Tonight” and The Eagles' “Life In The Fast Lane” Cody's thoughts on Lakeview's cover of “Lips of An Angel” The 5 essential Hinder tracks Cody would put on his ultimate Hinder mixtape … and much more behind-the-scenes insight into all things Hinder!
Pastor shares a story about a dog that cleverly retrieves a grocery order, leading into a sermon about the differences between miracles and the human perspective on problems. He examines the story of Lazarus' resurrection, emphasizing the various viewpoints of Jesus, the disciples, Mary, Martha, the crowd, and Lazarus himself. Each perspective reveals the struggle of doubt and faith in the face of God's timing, highlighting that challenges serve a greater purpose in growing faith and glorifying God. Ultimately, Pastor invites listeners to trust in God's plan, even amid delays, as He has the power to bring life from death.

He has been married to Lindsay for 40 years and has three grown-up children and five grandchildren. His life changed significantly when Lindsay died suddenly nearly two years ago. Steve was a client of mine for several years following the heartbreaking, sudden and unexpected loss of his Lindsay. Steve's journey through grief is exemplary because he diligently put himself out to understand grief, to learn to live with it and integrate the loss of his companion of a lifetime into a meaningful life. I invited him to share his story because it offers much insight. When we began working together, Steve was recently widowed. From the beginning, he wanted to grow not because of his loss but despite it and embrace life yet again. Over the time we worked together, I've had the privilege of witnessing his incredible transformation—how he embraced his own grief and walked alongside the grief of his three adult children. We worked through the difficult emotions, and he ultimately rebuilt his life in a way that honors his late wife's memory while also opening himself up to new love.Support the showFind support: Transforming Your Grief Course Support the show: Become a supporter of the show! This week Nicola and Di chat with the remarkable Sam Bloom. Sam’s a mum of 3, who lived a very full and active life until a devastating accident in Thailand left her paralysed. In the midst of rebuilding, along came Penguin, the little magpie who helped her heal. Their story became a best-selling book, captured by her photographer husband Cam, and later turned into a global hit film, Penguin Bloom. Now a world-champion para-kayaker, surfer and a passionate advocate, Sam is testament to the inner strength that each of us can find when faced with adversity. In this conversation, we hear about that fateful day in Thailand, when in the blink of an eye, Sam’s life changed forever when she fell through a rotten balcony railing and crashed six metres onto the concrete below. Sam shares just how awful that experience was, including the moment when she was told she would never walk again, and she thought that her life was over. Sam opens up about how much guilt she felt as a mother who could no longer look after her 3 boys in the way that she used to. The simple things she wasn’t able to do for them, and how much she hated the way the tables had turned and her boys needed to look after her. We also hear about the incredible moments of support and acts of kindness from her family and those around her, that gave her a renewed sense of purpose and allowed her to find hope again through competitive para-kayaking. Sam went on to compete in competitions around the world, and was also encouraged to get back into surfing, and went on to win Gold for Australia in the 2018, 2020 and 2023 World Para Surfing Championships. And of course we talk about the beautiful story of a little magpie named Penguin, who also played a big part in Sam’s healing. Sam shares how what started as an Instagram account, went onto become a best-selling book and then a film with Naomi Watts. This is such a beautiful and honest conversation about the importance of community, resilience, and the healing power of laughter and purpose. We were so honoured to have this chat with Sam and we hope you love it as much as we did. Can be hard to celebrate when there is so much unresolved. Hard to celebrate when all you feel is distance and yearning. It is important for us not to rush past these feelings. Too often, in our never ending pursuit of Eastertide we speed past grief. We rush past the process because we do not want to engage the pain. And ironically, in our pursuit of avoidance, we build a life that centers our loss.Watch the full service here.

Send us a textWhat does it take to excel as a defender when you don't fit the physical prototype? Michael Parkhurst, who captained Atlanta United to their 2018 MLS Cup victory, reveals how his mind became his greatest strength on the soccer pitch."My brain was my biggest asset," Parkhurst explains, detailing how he compensated for lacking the traditional center back qualities of height, strength, and aerial prowess. This mental approach not only fueled his remarkable professional career but also inspired his current mission helping young players develop beyond their technical abilities. After watching talented academy players fail to earn second contracts despite their skills, Parkhurst co-founded Beyond Goals Mentoring with former teammate Greg Garza. Their organization addresses the immense pressure facing today's young players and teaches the often-overlooked mental skills crucial for success. From building resilience and confidence to developing leadership and emotional control, these tools serve athletes both on and off the pitch. The conversation offers valuable insights for players, coaches, and referees alike. Parkhurst breaks down what makes a great referee from a player's perspective: mutual respect, clear communication, and consistency. He provides practical advice on player-referee interactions, emphasizing respectful dialogue and emotional management during heated moments.Parents will find particular value in Parkhurst's observations about sideline behavior and how it affects both player development and referee retention. His perspective highlights how well-meaning parents often undermine their children's growth by removing opportunities to learn through mistakes and develop decision-making skills.Whether you're a player looking to elevate your mental game, a referee seeking to understand the player's mindset, or a parent supporting a young athlete, this episode delivers practical wisdom from someone who reached soccer's highest levels through intelligence rather than physical dominance. Journalist Clay Risen is out with a new narrative history of the Red Scare, based in part on newly declassified sources. In Red Scare, Risen depicts McCarthyism as a cultural witch hunt against all kinds of people, not just potential communist spies. And he argues that the Red Scare was part of a broader cultural backlash against New Deal progressivism and an increasing sense of cosmopolitanism in the United States. In today's episode, Risen joins NPR's Steve Inskeep for a conversation about Senator Joseph McCarthy's personal and political opportunism, the enduring power of conspiracy theories, and how the Constitution did – and didn't – stand up to protect American civil liberties. To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedayLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

When grief left them speechless, award-winning authors Julia Park Tracey and Christine Walker turned to fiction—not just to cope, but to give their sons a voice that would live on forever. In today's episode, I'm joined by Julia Park Tracey and Christine Walker—two accomplished creatives who have transformed personal grief into meaningful art. Julia is an award-winning author, journalist, and publisher at Sibylline Press. Her historical novels The Bereaved and Silence are inspired by ancestral stories and deeply shaped by the loss of her stepson. Christine is a visual artist, designer, and writer whose novel Tap Dancing at the Bluebird, drawn from her grandmother's Depression-era diaries, was reimagined through the lens of losing her son, Quinn. Both women use their work to explore themes of loss, healing, and transformation.Throughout this episode, Julia and Christine share how their sons' deaths profoundly influenced their creative processes. Julia describes how grief deepened the emotional truth of her characters and led her to speak openly about loss, both in life and on the page. Christine talks about infusing her novel's character with Quinn's essence—his “quinescence”—to give him a lasting literary presence, and how painting helped her process pain when words failed. Together, they reflect on the healing power of storytelling and the ways creativity can offer connection, comfort, and a sense of continuity through grief.Tune in to episode 328 as Julia Park Tracey and Christine Walker share how channeling their grief into writing and art helped them honor their sons, process profound loss, and discover a lasting sense of connection, creativity, and healing. In This Episode, You Will Learn:Julia's story: Writing through historical grief and personal loss (1:14)Christine's journey: From garden journals to literary healing (6:12)Giving their sons a literary afterlife (9:40)How grief alters language and social norms (14:17)To tell or not to tell: Sharing a child's death publicly (17:24)Redefining happiness: Can we ever feel joy again?
