Quentin Tarantino has his very first novel out now, and it's a fabulous novelization of his 9th film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. JT and I both read the new book AND we both rewatched the film, so we couldn't wait to sit down and talk to each other about it on the pod! Hope you read it, because we this episode is FULL of spoilers from both the book and the movie, so proceed with caution. JT and I discuss the differences between the two and what our overall takeaway was from Tarantino's first novel. Enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
Summer is here, the theaters are open, and people are returning to cinemas which is FANTASTIC news! JT and I sat down to talk about some of our own personal favorite movie going experiences while also talking about things we're looking forward to seeing this year. When one of the two hosts of Guys Who Like Musicals comes to talk on my show, what the hell ELSE should we talk about?! MUSICALS! DUH! Broadway's Dan Tracy stops by to talk about some of our favorite Movie Musicals, and what we think they should do when they inevitably make the movie version of Hamilton... Whether its the earliest of Golden Age Hollywood, or as recent as the film versions of In the Heights and Wicked, we are talking all things movie musicals and I feel like we barely scratched the surface of this topic, so be sure that we'll be bringing Dan back to talk some more in the future. For now, go ahead and take a listen and be sure to check out Dan on his podcast Guys Who Like Musicals wherever you like to listen to....well....this podcast. You didn't think we'd miss out on the big show, did ya?! JT and I talked earlier this year about our favorite films that came out in 2020, and many of those films made an appearance on this year's Oscar nominations list! We discuss which picks were Surprises and which films we thought were totally SNUBBED. It wound up being a pretty great year for film despite the chaos, and we think that sitting around and chatting about how the Academy chose to highlight the year in film is EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. Enjoy! #Minari4Ever --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
The Coen Brothers have made some of the best films of this century, and none are as fun or as pleasing on the ears as their 2000 hit film O Brother, where art thou? With a Grammy award winning soundtrack assembled by T Bone Burnett, this film truly is an adventure filled odyssey, and one of my personal favorite films ever. My guest today, Daniel C. Jackson, also happens to be a huge fan of the film (I mean, who isn't?!) and we had a lovely chat about why we find the film to be such a classic. Enjoy the discussion! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
This episode is all about the One, the Only, JIM HENSON. Shawn W. Smith and I sat down to talk about one of the greatest artists of the 20th Century and a personal favorite of Shawn's. Jim Henson filled the world with positivity and magic in his 53 years on this earth, and that love is still felt today as his legacy and his life's work continue to entertain and educate both children and adults alike. Whether it was on television with THE MUPPET SHOW, SESEME STREET and FRAGGLE ROCK or in the cinema with the many MUPPET Movies and standalone classics like THE DARK CRYSTAL and LABYRINTH, Jim Henson has given us some of the most imaginative and awe inspiring moments in film and television history. Small screen or big screen, it didn't matter. He was a genius through and through and I hope you enjoy our journey through his life and work and what he means to us. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
JT from the Quarantine Film Club and I sat down to chat about what we think were some of the very best films of the year. 2020 was certainly unique as far as movie releases go, with many films getting pushed to 2021 and beyond. But! We were able to get some pretty great things offered up to us for at home viewing, which made this year a rare surprise for some films that otherwise might not have found their audience. Whatever the case may be, JT and I came up with what WE think are the best films of 2020 and we talk about their place in the upcoming awards season, and even some surprise picks that may not get much awards attention, but that captured our attention nonetheless. Check it out and let us know what some of YOUR favorites were! @FilmstruckFilmclub @QuarantineFilmclub --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
Which version of Blade Runner have YOU seen? Because there are several when it comes to this 1982 Sci-Fi classic. My buddy James will tell you that it's one of his very favorite films of all time, so we sat down to discuss what we think of the film, it's legacy, and we even talk about the 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049. Get ready to retire some Replicants, cause it's BLADE RUNNER TIME! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
It's the most wonderful time of year! Even in 2020, I've found myself decorating and listening to christmas music and, of course, watching some of my favorite Christmas movies. JT and I sat down to discuss some of the very best of the bunch and how we think they stack up in the pantheon of Christmas movies. Enjoy the episode and happy holidays everybody! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
Who is Don Bluth you ask? He is an American animator and filmmaker who would most certainly be one of the faces on the Mount Rushmore of feature length animated filmmaking and just so happens to be a personal favorite filmmaker of my friend and guest on the pod, Oscar Gubelman. With such films as THE SECRET OF NIMH, AN AMERICAN TAIL, THE LAND BEFORE TIME and ANASTASIA, Don Bluth has cemented his place as one of the greatest animators of all time. Oscar and I discuss the films of Don Bluth and how they affected us as children and how they continue to wow us even as adults. Enjoy this trip down memory lane as we talk about the man, the myth, the legend, Don Bluth. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
1994 was an EXCEPTIONAL year for film. With such titles as Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump and The Shawshank Redemption, there was simply no WAY that the Academy was going to get it all "right". Luckily, JT and I have taken the time to rewrite history and we are going to be giving you our revamped list of who we think should have been nominated, and who should have ultimately won the awards. We had a blast making this, and I hope you'll enjoy our FIRST rewrite of the Academy Awards! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
Wes Anderson is easily one of the best American filmmakers working today, and with his 2009 hit film, Fantastic Mr. Fox, he eclipsed his previous work and has since been making some of the best films of his career. JT and I sit down to discuss the pivotal nature of Fantastic Mr. Fox and also take a delightful stroll through the man's entire filmography as we celebrate and discuss the work of a modern American master. Enjoy the show! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
Do you love Quentin Tarantino?! Of Course you do! JT and Carson sat down to talk about an under seen classic in the QT canon, his 8th feature film, The Hateful Eight. We talk about the 70mm "Roadshow" experience as well as our favorite moments, some weirrrrd theories and where it stacks up for us in his filmography. Take a listen and let us know what YOU think of QT and The Hateful Eight. Follow JT and Carson @filmstruckfilmclub @quarentinefilmclub --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
JT and Carson talk about the one and only Marty Scorsese in celebration of the man's 78th birthday. Carson says that Gangs of New York is his favorite film by Scorsese and JT disagrees.... Enjoy the boys as they spend a morning getting stoned, drinking coffee, and talking about their very favorite thing; movies. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/carson-higgins2/message
