Did you know that fellow '60's Brit rockers The Kinks had their biggest ever hit in 1984? Who didn't love "Kum Backing", their tribute to one of the very first bootlegs: the Beatles acetate "Kum Back"? Here at the UBP we love the Kinks, kink shaming, Kum & Go gas, and this legendary bootleg, heard by the #Kum2GetherToo for the very first time just this month! Some Beatles "fans", right? I'll bet they can't even pronounce "Esher" correctly... So do get your tape recorders rolling, but be forewarned; Kash Patel may come to your home to sing songs about justice for people who poop on senate desks. Smart fella, that one. All of 'em, really. ANYHOO, when your tape is rolling, Bob, be ready for more questions than a societally-destructive right wing manosphere podcast is "just asking", such as:

Another episode, another nostalgisch pareltje dat de revue passeert.

This podcast covers New Girl Season 4, Episode 20, Par 5, which originally aired on Apr 7, 2015 and was written by Lamorne Morris and Rob Rosell and directed by Trent O'Donnell. Here's a quick recap of the episode:Fawn takes Jess to a golf tournament to get new computers for her students while Winston starts dating someone new. Cece also helps Schmidt get ready for a photo op with Fawn while dealing with her own feelings for him. This episode got a 7.5/10 rating from both Kritika and Kelly; and we both had the same favorite character: Winston! While not discussed in the podcast, we noted other references in this episode including:K-Ci & Jojo - When Winston was meeting KC, he was jokingly asking, “Yo, KC, where JoJo at?", responding to himself, “In rehab, probably.”Nick Nolte - Winston said he saw Nick Nolte in the park once.Gollum / “One Ring” - Cece was telling Jess that she was going to help Schmidt with an emergency and Jess said she couldn't go over there alone because it would be like “Gollum hanging out with the One Ring.”Big Bird / Sesame Street - Jess, uncomfortable while networking, makes a joke about someone's shoes looking like they chopped off Big Bird's feet and Fawn urged her not to make jokes about murdering Sesame Street puppets.O.J. Trial - Winston shared that Nick had lost the ability to talk about race with Winston when he focused in on the white Bronco car during the O.J. trial when they were kids.Eddie Murphy / [The Nutty Professor] / Seinfeld - When discussing race, Nick was trying to show he did a good impression of Eddie Murphy doing his Hercules bit from The Nutty Professor. Coach was able to do the impression much better. Winston said Nick was not able to comment, but Winston shared it was not the same thing when he did the Seinfeld impression.Ghostbusters - Winston shared that he knows they're going to recruit from law enforcement if there are ever real Ghostbusters.Ginuwine - When Winston showed up at KC's workplace, they put on a song for Winston to dance to and Winston asked if they had a song by Ginuwine.Additionally we mentioned in our podcast episode that we'd include the video for “There Are No Cats in America” which you can find on Youtube here. Thanks for listening and stay tuned for Episode 21! As we enter into the holiday season we kick things off by recognizing our Hebrew brethren with the Hanukah classic An American Tail and it's superior (depending on whose house you grew up in) sequel, An American Tail: Fievel Goes West. Aside from the classic "Somewhere Out There" do either of these still hold up?
An American Tail succeeds in delivering a visually spectacular and emotionally charged story but falters in execution. It's an ambitious work that tackles meaningful themes, yet its uneven pacing and tonal inconsistencies keep it from reaching its full potential. Despite its flaws, the film remains a beloved classic and an important entry in Don Bluth's filmography. For those who appreciate beautifully animated stories with heart, An American Tail is a journey worth taking, even if it's not without its bumps along the way.

Just in time for spooky season, Jaclyn speaks to writer/producer David Kirschner (Hocus Pocus, Child's Play) about kindness in his life, his fascination with family & fantasy stories, and how the kindness of others propelled his career.David Kirschner's imagination has spawned a body of work that has evoked laughter, fear, suspense, and heartfelt emotion for over 40 years. It was 1975 when the legendary Neil Diamond laid eyes on 19-year-old David's illustrations. From here, David would photograph, and design twenty-two album covers, including the Grammy-nominated for design, The Jazz Singer. Soon after, David's talents were enlisted by famed creator, Jim Henson, for work on Sesame Street and The Muppets. Next, David harkened the voice of his creative entrepreneurial spirit, creating a fantasy garden world, Rose-Petal Place. Inspired by his daughters, Rose-Petal Place quickly blossomed into a book series, toys, apparel, television specials, and a float in the Macys Day Parade. This success brought David to the attention of Steven Spielberg. Backed by Steven's company, David created and produced the Oscar-nominated and two-time Grammy-winning, An American Tail, which spawned a theatrical sequel, and television series. It wouldn't be long before David struck again, but this time it was the fear of his sister's dolls that would soon become the horror icon, Chucky, in Child's Play. Chucky has prospered in 7 films, and the Chucky VT series is in its third year with an average score of 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. David ran Hanna Barbera Studios as President and Chairman for four years, where he led the resurgence of the venerable animation house. During his reign, David co-wrote and produced the two-time Emmy nominated live action, The Dreamer of Oz, with legendary writer, Richard Matheson, and produced the live-action feature The Flintstones. David's book, The Pagemaster was translated into fourteen languages around the world and became a film starring Macaulay Culkin. David produced for Disney, based on his story, the film Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2, Hocus Pocus 3 is in pre-production.His other projects include; Frailty, Cats Don't Dance, animated feature Titan A.E, Secondhand Lions, Miss Potter, and Martian Child, David also collaborated with Ron Howard to produce Curious George. He continues today as Executive Producer on the multi-Emmy-winning Curious George PBS daytime series. Ron Howard has been signed to direct a live-action Curious George, that David will produce with Imagine Entertainment. David has continued to honor his commitment to children and society with dedicated positions, Ambassador to The University of Southern California School of Cinema, Trustee of the Board of Crossroads School, Board of Directors for Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, and Board Member of The Center for Early Education. This podcast is one of the many ways we live out our organization's mission to educate and inspire people to choose kindness. The RSA begins their first movie series of Season 3! They'll only be doing 5 of the 13 movies! The RSA gang begins the first of Land Before Time movies! a 1988 animated adventure drama film directed and produced by Don Bluth from a screenplay by Stu Krieger and a story by Judy Freudberg and Tony Geiss, and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall. The film stars the voices of Gabriel Damon, Candace Hutson, Judith Barsi and Will Ryan with narration provided by Pat Hingle. It is the first film in The Land Before Time franchise. Produced by Amblin Entertainment and Sullivan Bluth Studios, it features dinosaurs living in prehistoric times. The plot features a young brown Apatosaurus named Littlefoot, who ends up alone after his mother is attacked by a villainous Tyrannosaurus rex and dies. Littlefoot flees famine and upheaval to search for the Great Valley, an area spared from devastation, where the adult dinosaurs have moved on to. On his journey, he meets four young companions: Cera, an orange Triceratops, Ducky, a green Saurolophus, Petrie, a brown Pteranodon, and Spike, a green Stegosaurus.[4] The film explores issues of prejudice between the different species and the hardships they endure in their journey as they are guided by the spirit of Littlefoot's mother and forced to deal with a "sharptooth" (Tyrannosaurus rex). The Land Before Time is the only Don Bluth film of the 1980s in which Dom DeLuise did not participate (instead, he starred in Disney's Oliver & Company released that same day), and the only film in The Land Before Time series that is not a musical, as well as the only one to be released theatrically worldwide. It was also the last film that Bluth directed that was distributed by Universal Pictures. The film was released by Universal on November 18, 1988, to generally positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, grossing $84.4 million. Its success, along with An American Tail and the 1988 live-action/animated film Who Framed Roger Rabbit led Spielberg to found his animation studio, Amblimation. The first film spawned a franchise with thirteen direct-to-video sequels, a television series, video games and merchandise, none of which had Bluth, Spielberg nor Lucas' involvement (though Amblin Entertainment was involved in the television series like it was for Fievel's American Tails). It is currently Don Bluth's third highest-grossing animated film, only behind Anastasia (1997) and An American Tail (1986).
Kate challenged Betsy to come up with a Hanukkah classic we hadn't done before and Betsy . . . turned right around and asked social media for their thoughts. And let me tell you, social media had some GOOD suggestions! So many that we're saving a long list to consult next year. The ultimate winner for today was selected because (A) You can trust author Eric A. Kimmel to present an original Hanukkah story every single time and (B) Betsy was already on a Barbara McClintock kick this year thanks to her work on Tomfoolery! Today we step back in time to 1998 when Mr. Kimmel thought it might be interesting to go all Borrowers on us and create a tale of tiny people battling great big kitty cats. We're celebrating the holidays this year starting with Hanukkah as we watch (for the first time) and dissect An American Tail, a Don Bluth & Steven Spielberg collaboration about a little Jewish mouse lost in the big apple that ironically brought the house of mouse back into a renaissance, even though the film itself was made in opposition to Disney...strap in because this one has a bit of everything. The new episode arrives a few days later than planned (since it was scheduled to be our September episode) but nevertheless, we have a delightfully animated episode on tap here featuring another two of my favorite podcasters. The talented, prolific Billy Ray Brewton (of The Incinerator Podcast & Movie Mixtapes) joins me alongside his good friend and co-host Ryan Verrill, who also has own podcast that I highly recommend called The Disc-Connected. We learn about their passion projects and their origin stories at the start since this is their first time on! Together we three have delved into the legendary work of one Don Bluth, the man brave enough to depart from Disney at a time when their output wasn't the strongest. He set out to make his own distinguishable work and was mostly successful particularly at the start of his career as a director. Then there are a couple of weird detours along the way (oh Rock-A-Doodle) but even a late career highlight that ends up being a favorite of ours! This was such a joy and for you animation fans of the 80s and 90s, I have a feeling you'll feel as nostalgic as we did taking this journey. Coming in about three weeks - something completely different - for the next episode, I'll be stuck in another dimension alongside librarian Chloe Waryan for a spooky discussion on Mr. James Wan! Another summer ends, that means its new game season, and to start it off we have my early thoughts on Starfield, which is definitely going to be one of my favorite games. We also have a potential third strike coming as SAG-AFTRA looks to strike against the video game publishers. Doug Bowser opens up about Nintendo's future, and Skull & Bones hits another hurdle. Adam Drive, Aaron Paul and others speak out against the AMPTP, Toho drops a big new Godzilla trailer, and Ahsoka was amazing. Also my top 10 80s animated movies gets a shoutout.
Hey Full House Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of Oh Mylanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast. Today, I'm kicking off the Best Friends Series with Full House S2E15: Pal Joey, which aired on February 17,1989. In this episode Joey and Danny recall the day they first met. I loved this episode, it was so cute. Especially seeing how Danny and Joey met, the kids they got to play them are absolutely adorable. The young man who played Danny, Phillip Glasser, I got the chance to meet him last Summer. He was so cool. He also voiced Fievel from An American Tail as well as the sequel and the short lived television series in the early 90's. Danny gets jealous of all the time that Joey and Jesse are spending together since they've become partners in advertising and Danny feels he's being edged out of Joey's life as his best friend. Danny was being so immature and Joey calls him on it and Danny decides since Joey can't read his mind and understand the reason he's upset than Joey and he never should have been friends to begin with. Good grief, Danny! Total Throwback Episode! So much unnecessary drama! Speaking of unnecessary drama, the side plot with Stephanie, Harry and DJ. Weird Love Triangle (at least from Steph's POV). DJ teaches Harry how to subtract and all of a sudden he's in love with her. Poor Steph is heartbroken. It's another switching rooms for an episode scenario. How it goes unnoticed with three adults in the house, only the writers can answer that question. It's up to Jesse and DJ to bring Steph and Harry back together. Join me next week when I cover the next episode in the series, Full House S3E9: Dr. Dare Rides Again, which aired on November 24, 1989. In this episode Comet, the family's new dog, eats Michelle's ice cream. Pete is an old pal that Jesse once knew. He visits the family when Danny and Becky are away on a talk show styling trip. 'Feedback' and some of Jesse's old ways pop up. Have a great week everyone!

There are no cats in America! This week we learned kids movies that play to adults are nothing new, Steven Spielberg started it way back in 1986 with An American Tail. And it has aged well, like a fine cheese, say, or like Dom DeLuise's voice. We just never get tired of it! Tune in and see if you remember the lyrics to the classic song: Somewhere out there… and don't lose your hat!
Join mega nerds Dre Alvarez and Jeff May as they geek out on a different nerdy cultural touchstone every month. Part reminiscence, part historical deep dive. The 12th episode of NERD! has Dre and Jeff join up with comedian/podcaster/author Kym Kral (Kral Space, Ugh Fine!, Confessions of a Recovering Party Girl) continue their exploration into the world of insane sequels to popular films with Fievel Goes West, the 4-years too late, officially retconned sequel to the Don Bluth classic smash hit An American Tail. There's a lot to unpack about this complete left-turn of a movie, so let's avoid some cats, downgrade our fast food sponsorship, and cannibalize our creative vision as we dive deep into An American Tail: Fievel Goes West! And don't forget to follow Dre (@nerdnumbers) Jeff (@heytherejeffro) and Kym (@KymKral) on the socials and have a nerdy day!
We're checking out two Don Bluth animated features. As a bonus, Dom DeLuise is in both! First up we immigrate from Russia in the hopes of there being no cats in AN AMERICAN TAIL. Then we try and move our house with the use of an amulet in THE SECRET OF NIMH.This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3412630/advertisement

We all know the 70s, 80s and 90s were a wild time, but it was especially wild for children. Latchkey kids aside, the movies they were marketing as "family friendly" were secretly passing on trauma to today's generations of adults. Nicole and Erin discuss some of the most popular, most upsetting movie titles, including: An American Tail, Land Before Time, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and, of course, every Disney movie made prior to 2000. Animation April kicks off with the 1986 Don Bluth classic An American Tail! Everyone get out your tissues and prepare to be destroyed by a pair of mice singing a ballad to the moon!
Overwhelmed by the number of questions he's received about his decision to emigrate, about the USA vs. the UK, and about whether he'd ever consider moving back to England, Charles asks Sam Negus, a fellow British Americaphile (and, now, a fellow American citizen), to chat with him about what it's like to move from the Old Country to the New World. Among the topics covered by Charles and Sam are whether they feel more American or British, why they call themselves "immigrants" instead of "expatriates," if it's possible for an Englishman to become Spanish, how long it took them to get into American sports, why the British are so flummoxed by the First Amendment, and why a song from An American Tail neatly sums up the American Dream. The dial-up tone in the introduction was recorded by lintphishx and is used under a CC 3.0 License.
Fievel Is Glauque - "My Rebel" from the 2022 album Flaming Swords on MATH Interactive. Taking their name from a diss on a 1986 cartoon character, Belgium-based vocalist Ma Clément and NY producer/musician Zach Phillips comprise the duo that is Fievel Is Glauque. ("Fievel" is a mouse who stars in the animated An American Tail film series; the internet says "glauque" translates from French to "sinister, ominous, worrying.") The jazzy-pop of their 2021 debut cassette God's Trashmen Sent To Right The Mess landed them an opening slot on Stereolab's recent North American tour, but their first proper LP — Flaming Swords, released back in November — adds a sheen to their prog-punk-jazz sound. The album was recorded live, in its entirety, during an evening in Brussels, August 2021. “Musically, Ma directed melodic impetus and I directed harmonic and rhythmic framing,” Phillips said in a press release. “Lyrically, we fought and embraced our initial impulses alternatingly; above all, we tried to trust and document the psychodynamics of the process itself rather than attempting to express concrete, prefab emotional or intellectual messaging. This approach to writing is intended to promote poetry while avoiding alibis and the hall-of-mirrors reproduction of excessive self-identification.” Read the full story at KEXP.orgSupport the show: https://www.kexp.org/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
