Our final episode of season 6 - re-uploaded after being taking down after an apparent copyright infringement is back with a slight edit. What a way to wrap up our sixth season - we leapt to 1994 drama The Shawshank Redemption with the undeniably great Morgan Freeman. We hope you enjoy this episode.
What if democracy can't survive sound money, because it runs on promises it can't fund?Knut Svanholm sits down with Mike Peterson in El Salvador, fresh from a formal night at the presidential palace with President Nayib Bukele. Phones taken, press everywhere, and a president who feels unnervingly normal to Bitcoiners. Knut's take is blunt, El Salvador may have accidentally voted “one of us” into office, and the results feel like the inverse of clown world. Then the conversation turns to the cage, fiat currency. They break down how money printing, capital gains tax, and government overreach work together to punish anyone trying to use sound money as an inflation hedge. If you have ever felt like you are being taxed for refusing to play the inflation game, this will hit a nerve. From Centro Histórico to El Zonte, they get practical about what Bitcoin adoption actually looks like when it is not just “number go up” technology. A circular economy takes time, merchant by merchant orange pill work, and more people using the Lightning Network for everyday payments instead of treating Bitcoin like a museum piece. They widen out to Madeira and Prague, where Bitcoin communities are forming in their own ways. You will hear why BTCmap.org (https://btcmap.org/) matters, why Prague gets called the Bitcoin capital of Europe, and why Vexl is one of the most interesting peer-to-peer tools right now for building a web of trust when rules tighten. Finally, Knut leans into his anarcho-capitalism lens, the Shawshank Redemption metaphor, and the mindset behind “you can just do things.” If this episode made you uncomfortable, good, subscribe, share it with the friend still asking permission.-Bitcoin Beach TeamConnect and Learn more about Knut SvanholmX: https://x.com/knutsvanholm YT: @bitcoininfinityshow Support and follow Bitcoin Beach:X: https://www.twitter.com/BitcoinBeach IG: https://www.instagram.com/bitcoinbeach_sv TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@livefrombitcoinbeach Web: https://www.bitcoinbeach.com Browse through this quick guide to learn more about the episode:00:00 - Intro01:43 - What is Bukele like in person?03:52 - Why do Bitcoiners say fiat currency is built on money printing?05:38 - Why does Bukele push circular economy adoption? 07:47 - Why do incentives matter more than democracy?10:18 - Why doesn't Bitcoin adoption happen overnight? 14:02 - How did Free Madeira begin?
Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were tragically murdered over the weekend and the film community is still reeling. Reiner was not only a kind man, someone dedicated to protecting the rights and freedoms of everybody, and a talented filmmaker, he was one of the very few filmmakers that understood exactly how to translate Stephen King to the big screen. Author Nat Cassidy (The Wolf at the Door) and film commentator Drew McWeeny (The Hip Pocket Podcast) join Beznican and Vespe to discuss the tragic loss of Reiner and celebrate his massive contributions to the world of cinema, from his King adaptations Stand By Me, Misery, and The Shawshank Redemption (which he produced for Frank Darabont) to the genre defining classics This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men.
Send us a textEver watch a headline and feel the room split between “grown folks' business” and “that's against the rules”? We open with a college coach scandal and quickly drop the rivalry noise to face the real issue: what's consensual is not always permissible when power sits at the table. We unpack how dating a subordinate distorts choice, why pay raises and special treatment torch credibility, and where HR policies draw the line. It's not pearl-clutching—it's about pressure, optics, and careers that end because boundaries weren't respected. From ethics to absurdity, we jump into a viral “Royal Rumble with 80-year-olds” scenario that turns into something surprisingly grounded: aging bodies, old man strength, and the art of admitting your knees have a vote. We talk recovery, realistic pickup hoops, and why the smartest play might be asking for the pass right in your chest. Then we take a hard look at fragile pride—how seeing an ex with someone “better” can spin you out—and trade jokes and truths on comparison, status, and the stories we tell ourselves to feel okay. The laughs land, but the takeaways stick: don't make policy a suggestion, and don't let ego drive the car.We round things out with movie recs (Shawshank Redemption, Big Fish, Predator entries), a nod to coin-collecting apps, and a Powerball daydream, all threaded by the same theme: choices, chance, and what we value. If you've ever wrestled with workplace rules, midlife fitness, or the sting of a bruised ego, pull up a chair. Hit play, subscribe, and share a moment that made you think—or laugh out loud. And if you've got a hot take on “consensual vs. allowed,” drop it in our DMs and leave a review so we can keep this conversation rolling. Thanks for listening to the Nobody's Talking Podcast. If you're a fan of SCREAM then you're going to want to pay attention to today's episode featuring none other than Stu Macher and Billy Loomis themselves, Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich. They're appearing in the upcoming Five Nights At Freddy's 2 and they decided to stop by The Kingcast to talk about their love of King's work and specifically Frank Darabont's adaptation of The Shawshank Redemption. We also talk about their real life friendship, the stain that is toxic masculinity, working with Wes Craven on the original Scream, and even about Skeet's rather... interesting... appearance as a poster above Satan and Saddam Hussein's bed in South Park.
Our next guest has been nominated for 16 Academy Awards winning twice for “Blade Runner 2049” and “1917.” Few cinematographers have shaped the look and language of modern cinema as profoundly as Roger Deakins. Over the course of five decades, he has worked with some of the most influential directors of our time brining to life films that have become visual touchstones: “The Shawshank Redemption,” “No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall,” and “1917” to just name a few. In his new book “Reflections on Cinematography” Deakins steps out from behind the camera to explore the craft and curiosity that have guided his life's work. The book offers not only behind the scenes insights into some of the most enduring films of the past century but also a thoughtful meditation on observation, a light movement, and human behavior shape what we see and how we understand story.
The Basilica of St. Mary Institute for Faith and Culture Presents: Beauty and the Beast, an Exploration of the Power of Beauty Part 1 of 5 With Fr. James Searby This first episode of Beauty and the Beast opens with one of the most unforgettable scenes in The Shawshank Redemption, where a single piece of music breaks open a prison and reminds hardened men that their souls are still alive. From there, we explore what beauty actually does to the human heart, why it stirs hope, and how it can lift us beyond the walls of our own routine and cynicism. Drawing on art history, architecture, philosophy, childhood wonder, and everyday encounters with beauty, Fr. James Searby lays out the story of how our culture drifted from a world shaped by transcendent beauty into a landscape that often feels flat and utilitarian. More importantly, he shows why beauty matters now more than ever, and how it can become an entry point for renewal, depth, and authentic encounter with God. This episode sets the foundation for the whole series, inviting you to slow down, look again, and rediscover the freedom and hope that beauty awakens in every soul.

Today I catch up with Tariq Maqbool to get the latest on his bid for clemency with the governor. We explore life inside prison and what happens when men become institutionalised, incarcerated for so long that freedom itself becomes something to fear. Many struggle with the idea of release, stepping back into the shadows rather than walking into the light.Tariq also opens up about his favourite film, Shawshank Redemption, and how closely it mirrors the realities of prison life. He's met men like Brooks — those broken by the system and lives by the same mantra that defines the film: get busy living, or get busy dying. One Minute Remaining LIVE in Melbourne get your tix now EARLY AND AD FREE ACCESS: for as little as $1.69 a week!Apple + HERE Patreon and find us on Facebook here. The Virgin Suicides (1999) impact [27:06] Husni Hafid describes how the first time he saw this film was on TV in Libya. What he didn't know at the time, Libyan TV edited the sex scenes but left any violence well alone. Badlands (1974) analysis [32:20] Alan Hopkins shares how Badlands was the film that changed everything about how he viewed films. It was the first time he was engaging with film as a higher art form. Shawshank Redemption (1994) analysis [37:55] Husni Hafid says Shawshank Redemption is the first film that stuck with him. To this day, he can go back and watch any time. Every time he watches it he gets something new from it. It is a film that can actively change his mood because it fills him with so much hope. There Will Be Blood (2007) influence [43:14] Alan Hopkins chose There Will Be Blood but what he means is the year 2007, the first year he went to film school. This was a time when he was all about cinema; going to the theatre every other day to watch films. Donnie Darko (2001) influence [49:24] Husni Hafid this is one of the first films where he saw the directors cut and it almost ruined it for him; realising how the theatrical cut had been edited so well. It is full of youthful energy and made him want to make a film. It's October, which means it's time for scary books and scary movies. There's one person who is well known for both: Stephen King. Since his first novel, "Carrie," was published in 1974 and adapted into a hit film two years later, his novels and short stories have been a reliable source of material for film and TV adaptations. And while he's known as a master of horror, some of the more popular films based on his work are drawn from non-horror material. On this week's episode, Sean Fennessey, co-host of the Ringer podcast "The Big Picture," joins Gilbert Cruz to talk about "Stand By Me," "The Shawshank Redemption" and more.Books and movies discussed in this episode:"Stand by Me," based on the novella "The Body" from 1982's "Different Seasons""The Running Man," based on the 1982 novel of the same name published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman"The Shawshank Redemption," based on the novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" from "Different Seasons""Dolores Claiborne," based on the 1992 novel of the same name"The Green Mile," based on the 1996 serial novel of the same name"The Life of Chuck," based on the novella from 2020's "If It Bleeds""The Long Walk," based on the 1979 novel of the same name published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman Subscribe today at nytimes.com/podcasts or on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Send us a textTime marches on and it's already time for another new theme. Everyone has their ups and downs (or downs and ups) and that's exactly what we're dealing with this time around with "The Fall and Rise". This cycle we'll be dealing with movies about characters who face a dramatic downfall only to make a comeback, either physically, emotionally or socially. The shakeup for this week is "must include a major flashback". The movie must include one or more major flashbacks, where past events are integral to the understanding of the current story. We'll be watching and discussing "The Shawshank Redemption" this week which fits the theme and shakeup on all accounts. Starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, a banker convicted of uxoricide forms a friendship over a quarter century with a hardened convict, while maintaining his innocence and trying to remain hopeful through simple compassion.

Hard to believe that we're almost ten years into the show and this is the first time that JT has gotten to do a Stephen King episode, but - here we are! With the recent release of The Long Walk, a film adaptation of one of the most popular of King's Bachman Books, we give our review of the film (and see how it stacks up against the novel)! Is it worthy of being mentioned alongside The Shawshank Redemption - or should it be left to rot next to The Dark Tower?
The Shawshank Redemption, just starring Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford in the lead roles? It might just have happened, if writer/director Frank Darabont hadn't turned down a life-changing offer to let someone else direct the film. Instead, he dug in, and put together - across a testing production - a film that's gone on to be very highly regarded. Even after it flopped at the box office. The late Robert Redford meanwhile was 77 years old when he came to make the film All Is Lost. It involved him stuck in the water for hours on end, left him with hearing loss, and in the midst of a film that benefitted heavily from an abandoned Disney blockbuster. Stories of both films are told in this episode... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
