A podcast about people who aspire to live a full, balanced life and exist outside of their comfort zone. Challenging the idea of the bucket list or the elusive "some day". Find and follow your passion, start living your life today. Do it now.....what are you waiting for?
Well we made it - 2019 is in the bag and the Golden Pig definitely had it's way! To say this year was focussed on change would be an understatement of gross proportion. But I'm just taking it all in stride and looking forward to what 2020 has to offer.
Remember that time when my uncle took me trick or treating at a shop that made and sold meat pies? Like a scene straight out of Sweeney Todd. This year I adventured into the haunted corn fields. All I can say is thank goodness for Depends!Sweeney Todd - God That's Good - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pn_XD7jDwFQStalker Farms - https://www.stockerfarms.com/stalkerfarms
Nothing pushes you outside of your comfort zone like backcountry hiking. This week Tina Hurley joins the podcast to share some of the crazy experiences she's had backpacking around the PNW. This lady really knows how to push her own limits and is such an inspiration. I'm looking forward to joining her on more adventures in the future.
Year 47 comes to an end....and what a year it was. This year was definitely a challenging one, filled with trauma, change and so much good stuff. I feel very blessed to have experienced it all and I cannot wait to see what the next year brings my way.
We've been talking about it all year......The Enchantments trip was a success! This week I share my experience hiking up to Snow Lake, Lake Vivian and Leprechaun Lake. The Enchantments - https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/enchantment-lakesNext Mile Meals - https://www.nextmilemeals.com
This past weekend my band, Second Shift, hit a milestone. We played our first gig outside of the school. We played a backyard Oktoberfest themed party in front of 75 people. So much fun.
That time I crossed the Vampire/Werewolf treaty line in order to backpack along the North Coastal Route of the Olympic National Park. An experience I'll likely never forget.
This week we get the podcast refocussed back toward it's original vision. (We got a little off track there the past couple months). Focus this week is on longevity and the key things people who live in the "blue zones" tend to incorporate into their lives. The book I'm currently reading related to finding your life purpose - Claim Your Power: A 40 Day Journey to Dissolve the Hiddlhttps://www.amazon.com/Claim-Your-Power-Mastin-Kipp-ebook/dp/B071GSFGX2/ref=sr_1_12?crid=2ZEF3M187R8FC&keywords=claim+your+power&qid=1561598601&s=gateway&sprefix=claim+your+po%2Caps%2C197&sr=8-12Here's a brief description of Ayervedic Medicine. It's a bit out there, a bit woo woo as they say, but it's been a practice for over 3000 years. There has to be something to this, right? Well I'm going to find out.https://www.webmd.com/balance/guide/ayurvedic-treatments#1 Podcast Email - pearls@whywaitpodcast.comPodcast Website - www.whywaitpodcast.com
"If you do what you fear, your fear will disappear" - my inspirational quote for the week. Situations that are unknown or unfamiliar can be uncomfortable.
Working toward getting my yogi status back, recap on Ohio and winery concerts.
We often focus on cleaning or revamping the outside of things, the things people can see. But we dont always give that same attention to the inside. This week i challenge you to make your inside match your outside, or vice versa if you’ve done a lot of internal work and need to let the reflect on the outside.
We've been talking about it forever. We've done recon trips, house buying trips and trips to pick up keys. But the next trip is the final one. Jake, our podcast audio guy, has packed his bags and his heading over to Ohio. And although it seems like a milestone week to me, he of course takes it all in stride like it's no big deal. We talk about what he'll miss the most about his home town and what he thinks his first few days in his new home will be like. He also left me with one more great idea to "borrow".
How do you live to be 93? Just ask my Grandma! It's my grandma's birthday today so I share some fun memories about the time we've spent together. Here's a link to those two books I referenced. Could I have missed my calling? Maybe my super sleuth skills should have been put to better use. Don't be surprised if you see me start showing up as a modern day Maddie Hayes from the 1985 crime drama Moonlighting. It could happen.
This week I was reminded that I'm not good in a crisis. When life threatening events take place I'm not the one to turn to. I know that about myself, I'm just not sure why or how to change that. But after last night, it's something I'm going to explore.
I sat down with Kathie Flood this week and came out of this podcast episode so inspired! Kathie's journey is so full of amazing twists and turns, from life guarding in Iowa to partnering with Dr. Sylvia Earl (an American marine biologist, explorer, author, lecturer and a National Geographic explorer-in-residence since 1998) on a VR dive experience. This is a real example of what can happen when you follow your passion and remain open to possibilities and opportunities. This week I hopped into the figurative time machine and had the opportunity to get a glimpse into various pieces of my youth. I forgot that I used to frequent the Rastafarian scene in my late teens and early twenties, but one of the my favorite reggae bands, Steel Pulse, came to Seattle this week and brought it all back. Strangely the haze of smoke and smell of weed was a lot less prevalent than I remember, but the pure joy this band creates in my heart was still the same 25 years later. https://www.facebook.com/SteelPulse/
This week we talk about the act of showing up - for your family, your friends and yourself. When you are a people pleaser like me, showing up for yourself is one of the hardest things to do. But if you don't show up for yourself, it's difficult to show up for anybody else.
Need a fun experience for the weekend? Try exploring your own city. Maybe pretend you are a tourist or make reservations at the newest restaurant. Try something you haven't experienced before.
Finding the things in your life that bring you joy is so valuable. Not only does it enrich your life while you are doing these things, but sometimes just remembering or picturing your happy places in your mind can do wonders to pull you out of a funk. This week, the magic of backpacking completely turns my day around!Info and images of the Enchantments:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Enchantmentshttps://goo.gl/images/oLF5QqWild by Cheryl Strayed - https://www.amazon.com/Wild-Oprahs-Book-Club-Digital-ebook/dp/B005CRQ4XI/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=wild&qid=1553741230&s=gateway&sr=8-11 https://www.amazon.com/Wild-Reese-Witherspoon/dp/B00RVC0S1G/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=wild&qid=1553741187&s=gateway&sr=8-4Mountaineers - https://www.mountaineers.org Podcast Email - pearls@whywaitpodcast.comPodcast Website - www.whywaitpodcast.com
After reviewing my Year 47 goal list, it's become quite obvious that overshot this one. But that's the great thing about checking in on your goals periodically. You can make adjustments - add things, remove others, make tweaks where necessary. I'm 5 months in and after making some small adjustments, I feel really good about the remainder of the year.

The first episode sets the stage for the What Are You Waiting For? podcast. Like all pilot episodes, its awkward, there's some rambling tangents and you'll likely never want to hear the word super again. But a year from now, it will be fun to look back and reminisce on how it all started. Seriously, you have to go here!
