Irish singer-songwriter Mark Geary left Ireland with a one-way ticket to New York and a heart full of hope over twenty years ago. There, in Sin-é cafe, Mark honed his craft and sang alongside the best of them, including the late Jeff Buckley. Time Out NY said, “His delicate songs about love and defiance recall Richard Thompson and John Lennon.” Geary has featured on bills with musicians as diverse as Glen Hansard, John Prine, Joe Strummer, Elvis Costello, The Pretenders, Coldplay and The Frames amongst others, plus extensive headlining tours in Europe, the US and Switzerland. He has composed the full score for three films - Loggerheads (2005), Steel City (2006) and Sons of Perdition (2010) - and has had many songs featured in films and TV programmes. In 2022, he completed a sell-out month-long residency in the new Little Whelan's in Dublin where, with his band, he welcomed special guests each week and personally curated the shows. 2023 saw Geary tour the north and central regions of Italy as well as Ireland, selling out Whelan's (upstairs), Couglan's, Phil Grimes (Co. Waterford) and Castle St. (Co. Mayo). His latest album, In The Time Of Locusts, was released in February 2024, and was recorded in his cottage in the forest with the help of Ruth O' Mahony Brady, Glen Hansard, Dave Hingerty, Dave and Karl Odlum. Following his acclaimed 2024 album, In The Time of Locusts (4 stars, The Irish Times), Antebellum is an intimate six-track EP bound with tender acoustic instrumentation and the familiar warmth of Geary's sincere vocals and reflective lyricism. Recalling, vulnerability and enduring hope, the EP reflects Geary's creative response to one of Ireland's stormiest New Year's on record. He says, “I stared out to a January of rain and cold and thought, ‘I need to get back to my desk'. If I stayed watching the news, or in a cycle of streaming shows, I'd crumble. I threw out my telly and set up a writing room by my bed. Tuned all my guitars and would jump out of bed and sing. These songs are what came of it: Fear, regret, love, romance, terror, and the weather forecast.” Navigating moments of reposeful contemplation to passages of trepidation, Geary reflects on the human condition within a more concentrated run time, where each track emerges as a resonant meditation on fear, love, regret, and hope. With six studio albums, three live albums and what will be his second ever EP release with Antebellum, writing, touring and live performance remain Geary' s lifeblood. Treating Antebellum with trademark Geary honesty, his lyrics slice right through to the core, revealing a life laid bare of human emotional frailty, failed relationships, tenderness, hurt, making amends, desire and parting. His treasured guitar collection is always close at hand, each set up in a different tuning and ready to capture any emotion.

This week, we are diving deep into the state of Pittsburgh sports, breaking down everything you need to know about the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins as we head into a massive stretch for the city. Here is what we are breaking down on the porch tonight:
Hour 4 - The crew are not fooled by the Red Sox series win over the Guardians. Should the Sox attempt to sell high on Jarren Duran, why can't Bello start games and Hill Notes!
Productive Not Busy- Do Life and Business Confident Focused and with a Plan
Wayne W (00:01) Hey, welcome back to the productive not busy podcast. know, you can look successful long before you become successful. Now, you can look like a top producer in any industry with absolutely no production at all. ⁓ That's the social media craze and kind of a problem that today's society, everybody's building a movie trailer for a life that they're not actually living. Meanwhile, the fundamentals, right? Stuff that actually gets people paid. Wayne W (00:31) are dying on the vine. And what are those? Conversations, ⁓ listening, leadership, confidence, ⁓ empathy, timing, body language, ⁓ voice inflection, right? All the soft skills, your presence, ⁓ OK? You know, human stuff. I came up in an era where if the Internet shut off tomorrow, Wayne W (00:59) I could still make a living before lunch. Why? Because I was trained to talk to people. I learned how to read a room. I learned how to hear hesitation in someone's voice even before they said no. I even learned how to calm nervous sellers down. I learned to negotiate face to face, shake hands, build trust. That skill set doesn't disappear because the Wi-Fi goes out. Wayne W (01:29) But some of these newer salespeople and new real estate agents, Lord have mercy. If Instagram disappeared for a week, they would require grief counseling. Wayne W (01:42) They know how to post. They know how to edit. Wayne W (01:47) They know how to brand, but they don't know how to lead a business. And leadership is what gets you paid when the market shifts in any business. See, AI can organize information. It can summarize contracts. It can help you write emails much faster. can automate sales systems. And that's valuable. I use it. Smart people do use it. Absolutely. Wayne W (02:17) But AI cannot wake your ass up at 6am in the morning. AI cannot make you disciplined. AI can't make you care about your business or your clients. AI can't give you resilience after rejection. And ⁓ AI can't teach you to be hungry. Wayne W (02:37) And for one thing, damn sure can't coach attitude. That's the thing in leadership talks about Wayne W (02:47) why that matters. You can teach scripts, you can teach contracts, and you can teach marketing. But you can't coach somebody to want it, like really want it. I can't coach action or attitude. I can't coach accountability into somebody who's addicted to excuses. So some people want Wayne W (03:11) success the way folks want a six pack at the gym, right? They want to go to the gym and watch everybody else work out and walk out with the six pack. They want the appearance without the repetition required to earn it. Even in the real estate industry, they're getting exposed big time because of that. Look, NAR said 71 % of realtors did not close a single deal last year. ⁓ 71%. Think about that. That means Wayne W (03:41) out of every 10 agents, ⁓ seven ⁓ did actually zero and made nothing last year. Zero. Wayne W (03:50) But if you looked at their social media, you'd think they were selling beachfront ⁓ mansions to movie stars, hanging out on the beach, tanning every weekend. That's the disconnect. Everybody's ⁓ marketing. Nobody's mastering their skill. See, skills are always going to be king forever. Wayne W (04:20) Can you control the conversation? Wayne W (04:23) Can you ⁓ ask hard questions? Can you handle objections without sounding defensive, right? Can you make somebody feel safe enough to trust you with the biggest transaction and their financial decision-making life? Because that's the business. Wayne W (04:43) not your logo. Wayne W (04:46) Right. No AI generated slogan or logo. No cinematic drone footage with the music in the background is going to make you good at your job. People work with people they trust. And trust still comes from human connection. See, I worry that we're getting into a generation of professionals who are becoming allergic to discomfort. Wayne W (05:15) Every hard thing gets outsourced. Every awkward moment gets automated. ⁓ Every weakness gets filtered through some kind of technology until nobody even knows who they really are anymore. Wayne W (05:31) That's why some folks are kind of in the panic mode at the second. actually, ⁓ you know, they have to talk live to a client, no edits, no retakes, no AI, no rewrite button, just them. They freeze in their tracks. And if there's nothing underneath the branding, the whole thing collapses. Wayne W (05:54) So you want to know what separates ⁓ closers ⁓ from pretenders. Wayne W (06:01) Closers take action. They take action before they feel ready. Wayne W (06:07) Pretenders, they prepare into nausea. Closers go to trainings. Pretenders redesign their logo and their business card over and over. Closers practice scripts. And pretenders practice poses and headshots. Wayne W (06:27) Closers build competence. ⁓ Pretenders build appearances. And eventually, the scoreboard tells the truth. Look, I'm not anti-AI. That would be stupid. Technology changes. Smart people adapt. You'd be an idiot not to use tools that make you more efficient. But efficiency... Wayne W (06:55) Okay, without ⁓ effectiveness is really worthless. If you're bad at communication, ⁓ AI just helps you fail and get worse at communicating. If you lack discipline, AI just gives you a prettier excuse. Wayne W (07:16) The people who are really going to win with AI, okay, are the ones who already have the fundamentals in here. The ones who can sell ⁓ without the use of AI to scale it. The ones who know how to lead humans first and use the software to bolt onto that. Because at the end of the day, this business is still emotional. People buy certainty. People buy confidence. Wayne W (07:46) Okay? People buy energy. People buy the conviction that's in your heart. People know. And no algorithm on earth can replicate authentic human presence. You want a future ⁓ proof for yourself? Stop obsessing over looking successful and start becoming valuable. I tell people that all the time. I coach other businesses. Wayne W (08:13) Work on your communication, work on your consistency, work on your emotional control, work on your ability to handle rejection and work on your work ethic. Wayne W (08:26) because trends change. ⁓ Apps ⁓ on your phone change, platforms change, markets change, but people, people still want to feel heard. They still want to feel understood and they still want to feel led. Wayne W (08:48) And if you can do that better than the next person telling you what right now, you'll always have a seat at the table, whether AI exists or not. Wayne W (09:00) I hope you enjoyed this episode. Again, this is the Productive Not Busy podcast. My name is Wayne Weathersby, ⁓ author of the book Discomfort Zone. ⁓ I've got the podcast. I've got the YouTube channel. I would love to hear some feedback from you. I would love for you to like and subscribe. We continue our examination of the year 1986 by talking about the albums that were released in the second half of the year. Metal and rap were reigning supreme with releases from Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, and The Beastie Boys, but pop and rock offered up some really strong records as well with major releases from Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Berlin, The Pretenders, REM, Huey Lewis and the News, and Sparks. Even The Monkees made a huge comeback for their 20th Anniversary! What's your favorite albums from the second half of 1986? Let us know!

Welcome to the kickoff of Mental Health Awareness Month on PATH! This May, we are dedicated to reducing the stigma surrounding behavioral health and exploring the "delicate interplay" between our hearts, souls, and bodies. In this episode, Jenny and Toni travel to the Denver area (via Kansas City) to sit down with a "joyous human" and "formidable buffalo" of a man: Steve Bloom. After 30 years in the high-stakes world of corporate leadership and private equity, Steve didn't just retire—he pivoted. At age 60, he returned to school to become a mental health therapist, driven by a mission to address the silent epidemic of loneliness and isolation among men. What We Discuss: The "Second Act": The humility and tenacity required to go from Chief People Officer to a 60-year-old grad student. The Crisis of Connection: Why modern men are struggling with a "contradictory script" and how social isolation fuels depression. Tackling the "Darker" Topics: Steve opens up about his work with sexual addiction and the societal impact of pornography and AI. Finding Hope: Why Steve believes we aren't as divided as the media suggests and how small acts of "human kindness" can save lives. The "Buffalo" Mindset: Walking into the eye of the storm with courage and clarity. Key Takeaways & Resources: Start Small: Connection doesn't require an overhaul. A smile, a nod, or noticing the "lady on the scooter" at the park makes a difference. The Power of "Saying Something": If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, or addiction, have the courage to raise your hand. Reach Out to Steve: Steve is open to connecting with listeners. You can reach him at S.C.Bloom@outlook.com. Or connect with him through the counseling firm he works with on Instagram @therapridecouseling. Our Road Trip Mixtape:Inspired by Steve's "80s Classic Rock" vibes and our deep dive into nostalgia, this episode's playlist is our longest yet! Featuring: Steve's Picks: Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, R.E.M., The Cure, Elvis Costello, Blondie, and The Pretenders. Jenny & Toni's Reflections: "Everybody Hurts" (R.E.M.), "Say Something" (A Great Big World), "Fix You" (Norbert Leo Butz cover), and "Let It Be" (The Beatles). Yttling is the Björn in the indie pop band Peter Bjorn and John and his resume' is so vast when I give you just a partial glimpse of what he's done, you'll realize you really haven't been busy. At all. Among other instruments, Yttling plays electric bass, celeste, acoustic and electric guitar, mellotron, organ, percussion, piano, and synthesizer. He's produced and written songs with Robyn, The Pretenders, Primal Scream, Franz Ferdinand, Sparks, Shout Out Louds, Lykke Li, Sahara Hotnights, he's a member of the indie rock supergroup LIV, he's co-founder of the artist collective and record label INGRID and his other band, the free-form jazz combo Yttling Jazz is an ongoing proposition, with two albums under their belts, including their latest effort Illegal Hit. A schooled jazz musician, Yttling's music with Yttling Jazz is textured, atmospheric, dark and stirring. And this conversation begins by addressing that darkness and it ends with tennis. Play NowEpisode 397 of the Seibertron.com Twincast / Podcast begins with the cast providing impressions and their preordering decisions for recent listings including the Collaborative FIFA Optimus Prime, an awkwardly timed patriotic Star Eagle, and the collector-centric Monstructor boxed set. Prompted by the dramatic story events within, a lengthy discussion occurs about Skybound's 30th issue of their Transformers comic book series, leading to criticism about its execution and pacing in the midst of praise for Robert Kirkman's willingness to try something new. This leads to a listener question about the brand's pivot into focusing on its legacy, with the cast providing potentially unpopular suggestions for how to re-boot the franchise in radical new directions. Listener questions about Overgear and triple-changers round the topics out before the episode concludes with the recurring "Bragging Rights" segment.
