Happy Sunday ya'll! In (late) celebration of International Women's Day and Women's History Month this episode covers the IWD theme 'Choose to Challenge' and we discuss want to see for the future of women.
The food delivery firm Deliveroo plans a London listing expected to value it at $7bn. Anna Macdonald is a fund manager at Amati Global Investors in Edinburgh, and talks us through the significance of the company choosing London for its stock market flotation. And we consider the long-term future of the food delivery model, once coronavirus restrictions are lifted, with Peter Backman, who is a consultant in the restaurant sector. Also in the programme, it is International Women's Day, and this year the theme is 'Choose to Challenge'. The BBC's Nisha Patel has been talking with three women on three different continents, who are doing just that, challenging preconceptions and prejudice.
Heather and I chat about the power of God's Word to change lives, the loss she has experienced in her life, dealing with anxiety, and her Bible studies: Ready and Determined. 4:08 Heather shares her story of coming to know Jesus and how her love of God's Word took root in her heart 10:42 Heather walks us through the major medical events in her life that led to a diagnosis of vEDS (Vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) and how that has challenged and changed her faith. Major Medical Events: Pre-mature birth, Colon rupture, miscarriage, two aneurysm flare ups (kidney and gut), kidney infarction, and left carotid artery rupture. vEDS makes your blood vessels and organs prone to rupture. There is no cure or treatment for vEDS. "The prescription he gave me was prepare your bucket list and live your life well, because the average life expectancy of someone with Vascular EDS is 48 years." 18:22 Heathertalks about the days and months following the diagnosis. "I wasn't afraid to die. I wasn't afraid to go see Jesus. I hunger to see Jesus. The hardest thing for me was coming to terms with the fact that God would take care of my husband and son." "We had to come face to face with the reality that we are not promised another day on this earth." "During that season I literally sat an alarm on my phone every 60 minutes to pray, because that was about as long I would last before I felt a wave of a panic attack coming on." Deuteronomy 30:19-20 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live20 and that you may love the Lordyour God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lordis your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. "I said, Okay, I am going to choose life. I am going to put two feet on the floor.... choose life, Heather. You still have life to live. If you have a pulse, you have a purpose." "I don't think God intentionally caused pain, but I do think He used that pain to bring me to my knees, to a place where I had to confess to Him, I'm not giving You everything. I am not giving you my trust over my husband and my son and their life. It was that moment when he said, 'Choose life. I got you. I got your family, choose life'." 25:58 Have a wholistic tool box when dealing with anxiety. 29:39Heathershares encouragement and tools she uses in dealing with anxiety. You are not alone in this struggle. Other humans struggle with it, but so did Jesus. "At the final moments of the cross in Luke 22, He is literally sweating blood, because He is so afraid." There is a Greek term used agonia for agony in the passage, when Jesus is praying to God out of fear for His life. "We serve a Savior who understands what it feels like to battle that in His body physically, in His mind. He understands what it feels like to cry out to God for relief." Don't expect to fix it all at once Make intentional, sustainable choices 35:58Heather shares about the 2 Bible studies she has written. #77 My amazing guest this week is Ky Furneaux, who spent 16 years as a Hollywood stunt person. Her actions truly speak louder than words with her mantra being 'Choose your life. Lose your limits'. What's even more incredible is her story behind her success. From breaking her back at 19 years old in a car accident to then being told she would never participate in normal activities again, this really is an incredible journey of strength, courage, and commitment. Be prepared to be seriously inspired! Enjoy. About Ky: Ky Furneaux is an Australian outdoor guide, TV host, survival expert and stunt person who has appeared in over 50 films and TV productions. When a car accident left Australian native Ky Furneaux with limited mobility at age 19, she took what could have been a debilitating setback and turned it into a true Hollywood story. Ky’s doctor told her she would never be able to play sports or do the majority of the outdoor activities she enjoyed. But Ky was determined to prove him wrong. After regaining her strength and her athletic ability, she took a job as an outdoor team leader with an adventure company. Her work with climbing, rappelling, high ropes, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, and hiking led her to consider a career in stunt work. 'Choose someone whose way of life as well as words, and whose very face as mirroring the character that lies behind it, have won your approval. Be always pointing him out to yourself either as your guardian or as your model. There is a need, in my view, for someone as a standard against which our characters can measure themselves. Without a ruler to do it against you won’t make crooked straight. ~Seneca We need to find ourselves a role model. Someone who we can measure our behavior against. Someone who inspires and motivates us to be the best that we can be.
FACEBOOK BLACKOUT Did you survive the Facebook/Instagram Blackout of 2019? Sounds like we're not safe yet. Post from Mari Smith:Uhoh--friends, I'm hearing of suspicious activity where people are able to log in to other users' Facebook accounts. As a precaution, you might want to immediately do the following: Go to settings > Security and Login: 1. Change your password. (Ideally 12-15 characters long, cryptic, upper and lower case, special characters and numbers. If you can remember your password for anything, it's not strong enough. Use a password manager!) 2. Log out of all sessions. 3. Set up two-factor authentication, if you haven't already. 4. Review your list of Authorized Logins and remove any that are no longer applicable. 5. Enable alerts about unrecognized logins. (You'll get an alert when anyone logs into your account from an unrecognized device or browser. But if you have 2FA set up, they won't be able to get in. I'm not kidding, I get multiple email alerts every day for password resets. Unreal!) 6. Set up 'Choose 3 to 5 friends to contact if you get locked out.' I think that's it for now. Clearly, the #FacebookBlackout2019 has wreaked a bit of havoc!! Best take control of your own account security, if you can. The SS102fm team were so impressed with the input of the keynote speakers and workshops given during the Pastoral Congress of the World Meeting of Families this year. We are also conscious that many people would have been unable to attend these talks in person, so periodically over the next few months we will be sharing some of the audio with our listeners and our blog followers. On the second day of the Pastoral Congress, Wednesday, August 22nd 2018, Cardinal Tagle, the Archbishop of Manila, gave a workshop entitled 'Choose life: Pope Francis on the ‘throw-away’ culture.' Cardinal Tagle brings together two major writings of Pope Francis: Laudato 'Si (on the care for our common home) and Amoris Laetitia (on love in the family).
In the first episode of our summer shorts series, Associate Registered Nutritionist Pixie Turner and I dissect a worrying Cosmo article from the July 2018 issue that feels more like a flashback to the clean eating articles of 2014. The article called 'Choose it or Lose it' promotes unnecessarily restrictive food swaps, demonising perfectly good foods and reads like a 'how to guide to orthorexia'. In this episode we: ✨Discuss why it's unhelpful to focus on the minutiae of detail about nutrition ✨How food rules can lead to and overly restrictive diet and potentially even orthorexia ✨Blow the lid off some nutrition myths ✨How articles like this contribute to food fear Show Notes {Pixie Turner Nutrition} {Pixie on Instagram | Twitter | Facebook} {Refined Sugar Free is Not a Thing} {Coconut Oil is Over} {Can you Boost Your Immune System} {Resources for Orthorexia} {Podcast Episode on Orthorexia} {Social Media and the Rise of Orthorexia} {The Wellness Rebel}

We'll see as we travel in time together, towards the future we go and keep going forever. We know that it all must end on some poor day but hopefully not before some ball tickling and foreplay. Our bodies are these wiggly biological organisms, they came from another organism's jism, and while we might see our bodies as a biological prison, without them we'd be in a spiritual schism. And this week's show is a real treat... I'm talking to the absolutely brilliant author, speaker, and coach Steve Chandler. Steve has a fascinating life story and in this show he shares his transformation from fearful neediness to a prosperous, happy life that he describes as 'crazy good'. What you'll learn in this show: Steve spoke about three different phases on his journey to money mastery: 1st phase: NEED. There are no choices, life is about needing to do things simply to avoid pain and to survive.The beliefs at this phase: "I desperately need money to feed myself/my children. I'm helpless, I have to do this because I'm driven by my past, circumstance and other people."How to move on from this phase: Realise that the past doesn't define or limit any of us, we can all create from the present moment. 2nd phase: COPING. Life is tough but knuckle down and it will just about be OK.The beliefs at this phase: "Money will always be a hassle and a struggle. I'll never be rich but I'll just about keep my head above water if I work hard enough."How to move on from this phase: See that freedom and possibilities are everywhere but don't trust, test. Try things out for yourself. 3rd phase: MASTERY. Money is no big deal, it's like the air, it's everywhere.The beliefs at this phase: "There's no 'Need to', there's only 'Choose to'."How to move on from this phase: Why would you? Life is crazy good! :) I'd love to know what YOU think about money, need and choice. Let's carry on the conversation... leave a comment below or connect to Steve via one of the links below.
