Former Prime Minister Sir John Key reckons the time is now to build a second harbour bridge in Auckland, amid the ongoing troubles with the current crossing.Motorists are being warned to stay way from the bridge, with heavy winds buffeting the super city and making for hazardous driving conditions.NZTA says it may close some lanes of the bridge if wind gusts exceed 80 kilometres per hour, and motorbikes, trucks and tall vehicles should use the Western Ring Route. As it is, motorists continue to face delays during peak time traffic, with the two middle lanes closed.Sir John Key told Kerre McIvor there will never be an optimum time to build a second bridge."The problem we're dealing with is... [it] take a lot of time, costs a lot of money. But it's a bit like the CBD rail tunnel, we backed that in the end not because we thought it was value for money... but it ultimately unlocked infrastructure opportunities in Auckland."Tell me it's ever going to get cheaper... it's not, so you may as well get on with it."Key adds the reality is, things always take time.
The Government's investment of $51.6 million into the foreign education sector will prioritise schools and private establishments, and Universities are not happy.Yesterday Education Minster Chris Hipkins said Universities are in a stable financial position.President of the tertiary education union Michael Gilchrist told Kate Hawkesby they are fine... for the meantime."But no organisation likes running a deficit and they need some confidence, they need some assurances that a more comprehensive plan is being developed for 2021 that will cover a range of scenarios.Mr Gilchrist says there has been some discouraging remarks from Prime Minster Jacinda Ardern around bringing in large numbers of students in 2021."There needs to be some indication there will be financial support coming if its needs."Mr Gilchrist adds if there is no financial help, jobs are on the line.

The skies may look clearer these days. But don’t get too excited. Levels of smog and other short-lived climate pollutants (remember HFCs?) are still high and climbing. The good news: there’s a long track record of international cooperation to get these harmful pollutants in check. The challenge: finding the political will to eliminate them entirely.Short-lived climate pollutants include black carbon or soot, methane, hydrofluorocarbons and tropospheric ozone, or what we think of as city smog. In addition to heating up the atmosphere, they dirty our air, make people sick and affect the ozone layer. In this episode, we speak to legendary environmental litigator, professor, author and advocate Durwood Zaelke about why the world needs to prioritize non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gases and what’s being done to curb them (with support from both sides of the political aisle).Zaelke is the founder and President of the Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development in Washington, DC and Paris, where he focuses on fast mitigation strategies to protect the climate. He’s received numerous awards for his work on the Montreal Protocol and his efforts to enact the Kigali Amendment to phasedown HFCs for climate protection.Recommended reading:NPR: Traffic Is Way Down Because Of Lockdown, But Air Pollution? Sandra McCracken and Russ Ramsey led a breakout session as part of The Gospel Coalition’s 2019 National Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, entitled Reading Scripture with an Engaged Imagination. The songwriter and author, respectively, discussed the role the imagination plays in reading, understanding, and conveying the content of Scripture. Even for individuals with a high view of Scripture, who believe the Bible is authoritative and reliable, Ramsey and McCracken argue that reading it well requires a fully engaged imagination—not because it is lacking in any way, but because that’s what our humanity demands. They discussed how, in prose and songwriting, they mine the detail of Scripture and use their imaginations to faithfully flesh out its context and significance. In doing so, they encourage others to engage Scripture in the same manner no matter their specific vocations. This episode of The Gospel Coalition podcast is sponsored by The Good Book Company, publisher of 'Need to Know', a book by Gary Millar. This practical book will give new Christians the essentials—what you really need to know if you’re going to follow Jesus. To learn more, visit thegoodbook.com
In this episode, I chat with Hannah Branigan about:food motivation - and how to work with dogs which lack it (especially in the field or in high arousal situations) andthe importance of planning our training sessionsYou can find out more about Hannah herself via her own website. But she also has her own dog sports podcast, called Drinking From the Toilet - which you most definitely want to check out and subscribe to.Hannah has two competition obedience DVDs available - Obedience FUNdamentals and Beyond FUNdamentals - and the easiest way I've found to access these from the UK, is to subscribe to the TawzerDog streaming service for a month and binge-watch them(!).Hannah also has a super book on competition obedience, published last year - called Awesome Obedience. It's available from Amazon UK and probably worldwide(!). Hannah is on the faculty for the Fenzi Dog Sports Academy and frequently instructs online courses there, if you'd like to learn more with her.In the podcast, I mentioned a free planner which Hannah has created - and which you can download from her website. If you go to this page of her site here, and look in the small box on the right of the screen (on a computer), you will see where it says 'Need help planning your training sessions?'. Here, you can input your email address to subscribe - and in return get her free planner and video on how to use it :)

The global videogame industry is worth an estimated $150 billion-and it's rapidly growing and evolving. As part of the WSJ Tech Live conference, columnist Jason Gay spoke with Andrew Wilson, chief executive of Electronic Arts, the maker of 'Apex Legends,' 'Need for Speed,' 'FIFA' and 'The Sims,' about how esports, mobile gaming on social networks and mixed-reality games are changing the way people play.
George Deeb, startup expert and Managing Partner of Red Rocket Ventures, sits down with ASBN to talk about the difference between being a 'vitamin' startup versus a 'painkiller' startup. George says that while a vitamin is nice to have a painkiller is something that people need to have.
I used to think about courage in terms of doing 'big' physical things, like going on the giant swing at a Sport and Recreation camp, climbing out on the yard arm of a tall ship, and jumping off the 10m diving platform (I've never done that!). But then I heard a sermon about having courage for the 'little', but often life-changing moments, like starting a conversation with someone you don't know, opening a letter that you know you may not like the contents of, and learning how to confidently say how you really feel. Hearing that sermon, and it was quite a few years ago now, changed the way I approached the 'little' yet 'big' moments in my life. I started to see these moments as opportunities to build courage - essentially building a greater trust in Jesus. However, these moments/opportunities required more than trust, they required me to actually do something. I could say to myself, I trust You God, and then leave the letter unopened on the table for days. Am I really trusting God? No. It was not until I actually opened that letter that the trust went into action and I became courageous. And wow did that feel good! In my listening appointment with God this week, one of the things I felt God say to me was, 'have courage to let me do the work I want to do in you.' My immediate response was, 'Need more courage - I need to get more equipped!' . I know that over the years God has increased my courage, but this sounded like I was soon going to have some God-given opportunities to grow that courage to the next level and I didn't want to have fear sabotage the work God wanted to do in me. Earlier in the week I had set up a playlist called 'Courage' and it included songs like, 'You're gonna be OK' by Jenn Johnson; 'Take Courage' by Bethel Music; 'Your grace finds me' by Matt Redman; 'Lions' by Skillet; 'This I believe' by Hillsong Worship; 'Whom shall I fear' by Passion; 'No Longer Slaves' by Bethel; 'Break every chain' by Jesus Culture and 'Another in the Fire' by Hillsong United; 'Oh Fear (My God is Near)' by Moriah Peters. So I added some more songs to the list and started playing them and declaring their truth Then I made a list of some scriptures relating to courage .... Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV The Lord is my revelation-light to guide me along the way; he’s the source of my salvation to defend me every day. I fear no one! I’ll never turn back and run from you, Lord; surround and protect me. Psalm 27:1 TPT Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 NKJV Also David told Solomon his son, Be strong and courageous, and do it. Fear not, be not dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail or forsake you until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord. 1 Chronicles 28:20 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15 NLT Remember to say alert and hold firmly to all that you believe. Be mighty and full of courage. Let love and kindness be the motivation behind all that you do. 1 Corinthians 16:13 TPT We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies. 2 Corinthians 4:8-11 NLT For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV So now I daily worship and mediate on these truths, declaring that God has indeed not given me a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind, and when the prompting from the Holy Spirit comes, step out trusting that He has gone before me. No fear, in Jesus Name. Perhaps there is something in your life that requires you to step out and be courageous, and yet you hesitate. I pray that as you read this post and take time to read again the truth from our God, that trust and courage will rise up and you will be able to just do it - in Jesus Name. Trust that God has gone before you. For God will never give you the spirit of fear, but the Holy Spirit who gives you mighty power, love, and self-control. 1 Timothy 1:7 TPT To find out more please visit https://wendyrobinson.com.au

How can we be confident about what we know—especially in an age of scepticism? This is the question that John addresses in this compelling talk on the 'Need to Know'. You would think that Christians are on the back foot here because we rely on faith to know—but John turns the tables on the sceptics and proves that 'radical doubt' is everybody's lot in life. Strangely this leads to the only conclusion—'radical faith' must match radical doubt. The Q and A session at the end is a treasure.
176:00 - Hängen geblieben: 'C&C: Tiberian Sun' 180:00 - Abmoderation, Danke und Tschüüüüss 'Hail to the King, Baby' - Duke In diesem Sinne, viel Spaß mit 'Verzockte Jugend III'! Hardness vs. Fruitfulness: 'Need to change' Neil Dawson by Grace Community Church
And this week's show is a real treat... I'm talking to the absolutely brilliant author, speaker, and coach Steve Chandler. Steve has a fascinating life story and in this show he shares his transformation from fearful neediness to a prosperous, happy life that he describes as 'crazy good'. What you'll learn in this show: Steve spoke about three different phases on his journey to money mastery: 1st phase: NEED. There are no choices, life is about needing to do things simply to avoid pain and to survive. The beliefs at this phase: "I desperately need money to feed myself/my children. I'm helpless, I have to do this because I'm driven by my past, circumstance and other people."How to move on from this phase: Realise that the past doesn't define or limit any of us, we can all create from the present moment. 2nd phase: COPING. Life is tough but knuckle down and it will just about be OK.The beliefs at this phase: "Money will always be a hassle and a struggle. I'll never be rich but I'll just about keep my head above water if I work hard enough."How to move on from this phase: See that freedom and possibilities are everywhere but don't trust, test. Try things out for yourself. 3rd phase: MASTERY. Money is no big deal, it's like the air, it's everywhere. The beliefs at this phase: "There's no 'Need to', there's only 'Choose to'."How to move on from this phase: Why would you? Life is crazy good! :) I'd love to know what YOU think about money, need and choice. Let's carry on the conversation... leave a comment below or connect to Steve via one of the links below.
