Jack Allison nodded at what he thought were all the appropriate times, head bobbing like a dinghy touched by light waves. His mind cast adrift as his producer droned on. “If you look at our growth here—” “The graph shows that—” His producer had gone to the trouble of crafting a survey for the fans of Jack's show, a survey to which a vast majority of his fan base had completed, letting their thoughts and suggestions be known in an official capacity for the first time. Deep down Jack knew that he owed them a little more, a lot of effort had gone into acquiring the data before him after all, so he decided to throw in some encouraging and periodic uh-huh's and mhhm's in-between nods of agreement as his producer continued to divulge his findings. “And here are some of the things fans would like to see in the future.” Jack's producer said and Jack suddenly came back to himself, no longer adrift. He didn't know why but he was suddenly struck with the feeling that it was very important to hear and understand what his producer had to say. Jack focused on the screen shared window populated with data. “One viewer would like to see more positivity on the show, Jack” Said his producer as he scrolled down the list. “This one would like to see more structured bits, and this one would like you to…” His producer trailed off and Jack could see the confusion in his face from the video chat window. “Wake...up?” “What?” said Jack. “It just says, wake up. I'm sorry I don't remember this being here before, I grabbed the data this morning and- holy shit there's thousands of them!” Jack could hear his producer spin the scroll wheel on his mouse and sure enough, on-screen countless messages scrolled passed, all saying the words WAKE UP or WAKE UP JACK “Wake up?” Said Jack. “Wake up from what?” Jack suddenly felt queasy, light-headed. He mumbled some excuse to his producer and stood up shakily from his computer chair. Once he got himself steady, he attempted to take his first step. Big mistake. Within seconds he found himself falling, falling for what seemed a time longer than it ought. When the carpet came up to meet him, he winced bracing for impact, only there was no impact. He passed through the carpet as if it were air, and kept falling this time through a bottomless darkness, a ceaseless void. His throat scraped shrieks the only thing to keep him company as he fell through cold space. He fell for what seemed like years until he spotted something at what must have been the bottom. It started as a pinprick at first and then grew until he could make out what it was. A bed, his bed. Three bodies were bundled under covers, one he recognized as his partner Cait, the other their dog, Kenny. And the last must be him he thought. Before Jack knew it he had hit the bed, his entire body jolted with an impact decades in the making, every bone in his body no doubt shattered to pieces. He lifted his head and cried out in pain. Only it didn't sound like him. At once Cait was at his side picking him up...picking him up? That wasn't right, how could they do that? But they were showering him with kisses and affection and he couldn't think. “Oh there there my little Jackie-poo, were you having a bad dream?” Cait crooned, face inches from his. “Kenny!” Cait got the attention of who Jack suddenly realized with horror, was Cait's wife. *“Jackie had a bad dream” * “Aww, poor thing,” said Kenny Allison half-asleep *“Come here little dumpling” *and Jack felt himself being carried over to Kenny's side of the bed. Jack protested, kicking and flailing his tiny little legs, shouting his horror in a language that only dogs could understand. “NO! THIS ISN'T RIGHT! IM A MAN! IM A MAAAAAAAAAAN!” Topics discussed on today's episode include: Lin Manuel Lame, Hunters's Anonymous Art Auction, Van Notes and Jack The Vote. Jack Allison froze in the doorway, pinned in place by the gravity of what he discovered in his home office. Van his blue-suited producer crouching there in the middle of the room next to something –no, nothing. Jack wouldn't look down, not again, so he focused on his producer's face, a visage like a locked box he had never been able to open in all of their years of acquaintance. Before Jack could voice his shock and confusion at his presence, Van was already standing. Pulling himself to full height before smoothing out the wrinkles in his azure-colored blazer. He rolled his shoulders before stepping over the nothing on the floor and approached Jack, who flinched backward. “Jack.” Van spoke calmly, assuredly, and directly. “You've done so well, nearly everything I've put on this list,” Van procured a folded sheet of paper from his blazer pocket and held it up, *“ and the show is generating more revenue now than ever. As a producer, I couldn't be more proud.” *By the time he was finished speaking, Van was close enough to Jack that he could put his hand on his shoulder and did so. Van was significantly taller than Jack who had to tilt his face upwards to meet his placid stare. Van's voice grew lower then, deeper. Coming from the throat of another man the tone may have come off as menacing, but not from Van, from Van the low timbre felt almost, reassuring. “But you haven't done everything on the list, Jack.” Jack finally found his voice, “what do you mean? You can't actually be,” only to lose it once more as he trailed off. “Search your heart Jack, you always knew I was serious.” Said Van and he placed the list in Jacks's hand. Jack grasped it, unfolded it in a daze, and looked for the last item, the single item he knew remained unchecked: Kill a man read the item and Jack swallowed hard. “Look at him,” said Van and he turned aside gesturing to the nothing on the floor. No not the nothing, the something –the man bound in duct tape around his mouth, both arms and legs. He was struggling, giving him the look of an earthworm come-to-surface for moisture after a storm. “I need to know that you have the grit to do this show, long-haul,” Van told him.* “That you have the stomach for it, that all my work here helping you out, is going to mean something.”* Jack suddenly felt the cold weight of a 9mm in his other hand and Van stepped away from him. “He's not an innocent Jack. He's a hater. I caught him trolling in the chat.” Van then strode past a trembling, sweating Jack Allison and with one final pat on his shoulder said.“I'll leave you to it,” before closing the door behind him. In the second edition of the 2021 MLB Preview Series, Jack welcomes back Makayla Perkins (social media director of DNVR Sports, and contributor to the DNVR Rockies podcast) to the show. Makayla is a diehard Colorado Rockies fan that is VERY unhappy with the organization following the February trade of Nolan Arenado; what is her outlook on the Rockies' 2021 season? Is there any hope in Denver? Can the Rocks' promising, young rotation finally put it all together this summer? (0:00 - 22:45). Prior to moving back home in Colorado, Makayla lived in Arizona for five years, studying at Arizona State University and working for the Arizona Diamondbacks. What is her read on the Diamondbacks? Are the Diamondbacks being slightly overlooked heading into 2021? (22:45 - 36:40). Next up, the San Francisco Giants; the Giants overperformed in 2020, just barely missing the playoffs. With Buster Posey returning to their lineup, can they rekindle some of their magic from last decade? The Giants are staying the course with a motley crew of veterans. Will they begin to rebuild this summer, or continue trying to compete? (36:40 - 45:15). Before Jack and Makayla debate which team will win the NL West, Makayla questions the legitimacy of the Dodgers' 2020 World Series title, Jack disagrees. Then, the two debate Padres and Dodgers. Are the Dodgers susceptible to a hangover season? Do they have what it takes to repeat and win a World Series in a full 162-game season? Conversely, are the Padres in danger of not measuring up to the preseason hype? Could they be the latest sports team to win the offseason and come up short on the field? Jack and Makayla hash out all of these ideas, not failing to mention the offseason acquisitions of Yu Darvish, Blake Snell, Joe Musgrove and Trevor Bauer (45:15 - END). Of course, this full episode is complete with in-depth analysis, over/under picks, win total projections, and plenty more! Jack Allison P.I. stepped out onto the stoop and tilted his head upwards to the great gray womb above pulsing with full dark clouds. He watched them open up, spill their bounty from the heavens. He watched the loot scatter and pool amidst the parched and split asphalt streets that were the filthy veins of the city's diseased heart. He watched the rain fall for moments more, and then flipped up the collar of his trench coat. It was time to leave. Before Jack got to the last step however, the door behind him opened up and a voice called out, it was his client. “You’ll catch them won’t you?” She said. Without turning, Jack replied, “I don’t think it's a them...” Jack heard the woman gasp even under the pouring rain. “You don’t mean…” She began. “Yes ma’am I do, this isn’t some teenage boys having a lark, a quick chunky-dunk to satisfy an urge for rebellion. I think what we’re dealing with is a single, sick, depraved individual. One who has done it before and will do it again I think...who i'm chasing —no what I’m chasing, is a..” “Chunky-Dunkerist” His client finished. Jack was shocked. He spun around and took new stock of his client. She had some serious gumption to say such a thing out loud, and there didn’t seem to be even a lick of trepidation in her vocal delivery. “Serial..Chunky Dunkerist” Jack said and nodded. At his words, Jack’s client made the sign of the cross and whispered a silent prayer. Topics discussed on today’s episode include: Tuesday Bluesday, Chunky Dunking, Coffee Talk, OAN, and Slurp Calls!
