Our political thriller series reaches a fever pitch as writer Jack Allison (author of Kill the Rich) joins to discuss Oliver Stone's JFK starring Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Oldman, Kevin Bacon, Sissy Spacek, Joe Pesci, and many, many more. This 1991 Oscar-nominated drama relitigates the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy through the probing lens of New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison (Costner). Overflowing with equal parts historical information and conjecture and expertly edited to achieve an anxiously breathless pace, JFK is the quintessential conspiracy film- but what does that mean in a culture where online political conspiracies currently dominate America's fringes? We'll try to solve the mystery of JFK along with some diversions into the current election, January 6th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Irishman, and much, much more!

It's an episode with a non-traditional narrative format so you know what that means! It's the return of Struggle Session's Jack Allison! The "twist" of this episode isn't nearly as as interesting as the last time they did a mystery flashback episode, but that's alright cause the episode of THIS PODCAST is a hoot! We talk about the 2016 presidential debates (in a fun way I promise) as well as the state of Twitter movie discourse and don't get too excited, but we even talk about nudity on streaming services. It's a jam packed episode that's only like 10% a discussion on the individual versus collective responsibilities of climate change and COVID and how they're reflected through social medial scolding. Don't worry though: we're correct.

Jack Allison was curled up on the floor of the production van, rocking back and forth and hyperventilating, thinking of a better life than this. “It's all wrong man, this is all wrong. I can't do this man.” He croaked on the verge of tears. The van door was open and daylight filtered through the leaves of the giant oak onto Jack's puddled form. “Jack..” Came a patient voice and he knew his producer Van had knelt beside him, half in the open van door and half out. “Look at me.” Jack felt his face in gentle hands move until his watery eyes met Van's. “You can. And you have to, we don't have very many fans anymore. We have to land this, the exposure could be immeasurable. ” “It just feels wrong man. This isn't my life, this can't be my life. Shooting these fucking videos for only thousands of views? Thousands of dollars? I barely make rent. My body is falling apart man, I—” Jack broke out into heavy sobs, and through the glassy haze of his tears saw Van stand up and throw his hands exasperatedly, and soon Dr. Fuzz—part production assistant, part traveling therapist—was at his side. “Shhh, shhh, shhh. It's okay Jack.” “It's not okay Fuzz, this is not my life. Doing this shit? It's not my life, it can't be it—“ “No, Jack. Those are called intrusive thoughts, remember? Remember what we developed to handle intrusive thoughts?” “Bacon-wrap the thoughts?” “Bacon-wrap the thoughts, that's right. Gobble it up.” At Fuzz's prompting Jack chomped down on an imaginary food. Satisfied, Dr. Fuzz clapped Jack on the shoulder. “Now let's get out there and do a show.“ In a few moments, Jack found himself on his feet and trekking across the church's parking lot with the crew. Once inside he excused himself to the bathroom and cleaned up as much as he could. When he had finished with that he put on the suit hanging for him off one of the stalls and departed. He reconvened with his crew in the lobby and as they began the short walk into the main area of the church, he was stopped by a man in a suit who was lurking by the entrance. His eyes were bloodshot and rimmed with red. “I just want to thank yall for doing this.” The man sniffed. “Hayden is...was, such a huge fan of yall's. I know he's just looking down now. Happy as a clam.” Jack, gave the man an assured smile, shook his hand, and gave him a comforting clap on the shoulder. “Sure thing.” He said. By the time Jack joined up with the rest of the crew, ring lights and cameras were already set into place, around the attendees who were already there. Jack eyed the two caskets, center-lit, and took his place next to them ready for his cue. When it came and they started rolling, he instantly snapped into his persona. “What's going on mother f-ers welcome to Meal Broz, I'm Jack Allison and you already know what the F- it is! We're here in Houston at the funeral of one of our biggest kid fans, Hayden Carter. Awww—!” Jack pushed out his lower lip and used his fists to mime rubbing tears away— “Press F to pay your respects!” After he said this, the production had to halt for several minutes. As one of the funeral attendees,—Hayden's mother apparently— had to be removed from set for sobbing too loudly. But when they came back up Jack was still in his element. “So you know we had to send ya boy off in style. Behind me is a child casket fulla' meats!" Jack gestured to the first casket. "We're gonna cook up every one of those bad mama jamas and stuff em into Hayden's open casket before burial.” Jack gestured to the second casket. “Talk about meat-ing your maker!” “Cut!” Called Van and Jack dropped character. “That was perfect Jack! Okay let's get a 360 on the child meat casket.” Jack watched the production team go to work all the while thinking, of a better life than this.

They made way for him. This way and that, boys suddenly clearing their throats and looking down, stepping out—spilling out— to the sides of him, his periphery. Some even pressing up against their own lockers as he strode past. The boldest among them attempted affirmative head nods and opened up with other opportunities of physical validation. But fists remained un-bumped, hands remained un-dapped and the hopeful lights in their eyes were cast downward, as their efforts brooked no change in that calm face as cool as ice. The girls performed their own rituals but were no less desperate in their performances, some attempted to walk alongside him books clutched to chest, chattering away, fidgeting, tucking locks of hair behind their ears with a forefinger in one smooth C-shaped motion. Smooth like he was. Smooth like the tinted surface of his reflective black lenses. Showing images of the world around him and if you made the mistake to look. Caught yourself distorted, round, imperfect in those blackened pools well then, that was your problem. Nobody could keep up with him, and it was only a matter of time with his long strides. That time always came sooner rather than later and eventually the hangers-on could do nothing but sigh, swoon, or curse their cowardice to his back, which was shielded from their affections with a blue leather jacket not worn, but hung by his crooked forefinger angled over his right shoulder. It swayed as he walked. Steady, timely, like a pendulum. On his way, he passed by a freshman. The Reign machine had eaten the little man's dollar. Much like him the vending machine appeared unshakable, at least by the hands of this kid. So he stopped his stride for a moment and with his body still facing forward, took a few gliding steps backward toward the machine. The freshman was too upset to notice his presence yet and was startled when one swift donkey kick backward was all it took for his Reign and several dozen more to come tumbling out of the reception chute. In no time kids were gathered scrabbling for the few cans left, and when the freshman withdrew from the fracas to thank his savior, clutching an ice cold Reign to his chest, his good samaritan was already too far down the hall to be seen. “Aw shucks how am I going to carry all of you?” asked Jack Allison of all his books. He was a freshman standing before his locker farther down the hall. He was speaking to a rather large stack of Star Wars EU novels he had over zealously selected from the library. The stack was higher than head-height. “Well, you know what they say, leave no book behind!” and then Jack artfully kicked the locker shut with a foot, and spun around to walk right into a force of nature. Jack, his glasses, and his books went everywhere. Dazed, slightly blinded and on the ground, Jack didn't know what hit him, but he could see and think well enough to know a stranger was knelt down beside him, gathering his books. “Thank you intrepid hero, what do I call thee brave sir?” The stranger handed Jack his glasses and he hastily fixed them to his face. “Van.” said the stranger and Jack balked, eyes wide. He scrambled backward on his hands. “V-V-Van? The B-b-bad boy of producing!?” “Just a name little man.” said Van and he stood, the fluorescents above caught the silver rims of his sunglasses. He turned his back to Jack, blue jacket swaying over crooked finger. Jack stared up at him in awe as he strode away. Then shook his head and shot to his feet. “W-wait, Mr. Van, sir, dude!” Van stopped without turning. “ I think..” said Jack “I think maybe we should work together!” Van laughed, though from anyone else it would have been considered a breathy exhale. “You know what little man...” said Van as he turned, extending a hand. “I like your style.” Topics discussed on today's episode include: Gavin Newsom, Free Guy, Afghanistan Withdrawal Deployment, The Ongoing Infrastructure Week, Notes from Van and more!

In the restaurant, the nerd shut his eyes because if he had to look at her—at him. He'd falter. His hands balled into fists not because he anticipated violence, but because he needed something to hold onto like a lap bar on a roller-coaster. He took a deep breath and his confession rushed out of him. “Mikaela Nickole Doughboy I've loved you ever since I first heard your voice.” The nerd spoke passionately and true, swapping his S's for -th's in a pronounced lisp. “And, and...” He was losing steam, losing momentum. “I-I—” He opened his eyes, looked at Mikaela and their beauty arrested his tongue. He grew silent for what would have been forever, had movement not have attracted his gaze over to Mikaela's...guest (he would never call him their date). And the sight of the man filled the nerd with enough rage to carry on. “—Don't think you should hang around people like him!” The nerd then pointed to the object of his emotional turmoil, the man in the booth seat opposite to Mikaela who was slouched at such an angle that his Dock Martin boots were on the table and crossed. He wore blue jeans and biker gloves, a black leather jacket with a white T-shirt underneath. His hair was cut in the style of a pompadour, and he was in the process of combing it, a smoldering cigarette hung out of his curled mouth. The nerd didn't say the man's name and he didn't have to. Jack Allison was the type of cat who let his bad-boy reputation precede him. Jack arched an eyebrow at the Nerd's accusatory finger but said nothing. Mikaela looked up at the nerd with an expression that could easily have been mistaken as embarrassment. “What are you doing here?” they asked. In the face of such beauty, somehow, the nerd found his voice. “I, well—when you asked for money to go get steaks tonight I thought...And now you're here with him, and I...” “Sorry daddy-o,” said Jack who had taken his boots off the table. He was sitting upright as he addressed the nerd, while crushing out his cigarette in the center ashtray. The action caused the nerd to see what was on the table for the first time: used knives and plates and forks stacked up in a tower for the waiter's convenience, all evidence of a meal well enjoyed. “But we already ate.” At this, the nerd started to weep, to blubber there in front of their booth while the patrons of the establishment pretended not to take notice. “How could you betray me like this?” He sobbed. “Look, uh.. What's your name?” Asked Mikaela and without waiting for an answer, “I'm sorry. But we really should be going. Thank you so much for the cash though!” Still crying, the nerd watched Mikaela reach into their purse and slap down some money—his money, the money he gave them—down next to the stacked plates. They then scooted out of the seat, started to extend a consoling hand to the blubbering man's shoulder, thought better of it, and then thrust their hands into their pockets while walking toward the exit. It was Jack's turn to leave. He stood up slowly and gave a feline stretch and yawn. He patted his stomach and as he made his first steps away from the scene, he stopped. With one hand on the nerd's shoulder, he leaned in and whispered. “Thanks for the steaks.” And turned to the exit where Mikaela was outside, waiting. Jack Allison had gone swimming before. He remembers what it felt like, going to that giant public pool for the first time at age 5. He remembers wanting to copy the older kids. Those six and seven-year-olds who would float on their backs, their SPF 30-coated bellies reflecting and absorbing the sun's deadly rays as they bobbed on top of the water. The memory is pleasant. The memory is vivid —all because it must. Because much like an airbag, when faced with catastrophe, the body has its own ways of reducing harm. And also much like an airbag, the body's harm reduction isn't always effective. Thus a voice breaks through, comes down and over five-year-old Jack on his back in the pool. He hears it as if from a loudspeaker screwed into the center of the sky. The Voice sounds funny, foreign, Australian: “....Alroight'...here we go….Quoite' a big fella'…” Five-year-old Jack doesn't know this voice but Jack-the-adult does, and thus five-year-old Jack is no more. It is Jack Allison the adult, on his back in the pool now and just as suddenly as this new body arrives, Jack remembers drowning. The horrid sensation of it attached to the serene memory of a carefree day in the pool, like an unexpected storm on a clear afternoon. The sky darkens and he remembers the water filling him and so it does: his mouth, his throat, his nose —burning. His eyes open despite the sharp pain of the chlorine —wide, yet seeing nothing. Jack thrashes, tries to bring his hands up to swim to the surface but finds them bound somehow. He tries to scream and succeeds. But what results is not what the rational part of his brain expects. No bubbles rise to the surface, no water—no matter how futilely—expels from his throat. Instead the scream passes through air as screams ought to, though this one sounds muted and distorted, no doubt a direct cause of the makeshift gag he now finds in his throat. Given that he can breathe and scream, and no longer feels the weight of water around him. Jack knows he's not in a pool. He's in darkness but he can tell that it's due to something over his eyes. He tries to move his hands to remove whatever is blocking his vision but finds himself once again to be bound. Both his arms and feet are locked by tight bonds that wont give no matter how hard he tries, and try he does. As the fight finally leaves him, as he's too tired to move. Jack realizes for the first time that a voice has been speaking. Not to him. but speaking nonetheless. It was the same Australian voice that penetrated his memory earlier. “...He seems to have settled down nae'. Loi-vely fella this one.” said the voice. “American Long pig. Nothing loike it. Well nae' time to get the gherkins out.” Jack felt the sharp tang of pickled vegetables strike his nose as he simultaneously felt several wet things plop down on his side. “A little bit o' sawse he'eh.” Jack suffers a wave of nausea as he feels and smells a noxious-smelling drizzle of foul liquid dribble over his body. “...And there we have it, American Long Pig. Just the way I loike' it. Yummo.” the voice said and the quaver in it betrays it's lascivious excitement. Topics Discussed on Today's Episode Include: Hilaria, Racist Gru, COVID Outbreak, Biden's Big Speech and more! Airdate: 07/14/21 - https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1086421948(edited)

Chat and Chugs Raft-Allison burned with youthful excitement, they were practically vibrating with the stuff. Their ear-splitting grins like heat sinks for the unbridled joy coursing through them. They wanted to dance with all that energy, sing, and play. But much like any child who has been given, what they perceive to be a, "grown-up job" stuck to their duties with an almost comical seriousness. They were given the task to hold the door, and hold the door they did. Side-by-side with their backs pressed into its wood, hands at their sides like Storm-troopers at attention. They watched their father close the distance between them, the giant brown box that he carried obscured his torso, giving the impression of a walking box, an observation Chugs saw fit to whisper to his fellow door-guard and sibling. They both broke out into fits of giggles at this but dared not to leave their posts. As their father Jack Allison crossed the threshold, the door was all but forgotten and the kids were around the box the second it touched carpet. Cait Raft, their birthing-parent, gazed fondly at their collection of loved ones (husband included), closed the front door and left them to their toys. “Happy Import Day!” Jack said to his kids, and they parroted this greeting with as much, if not more, enthusiasm. Jack instructed his kids to stand aside and went through a routine safety mini-lecture as he unveiled a box cutter and sliced open the box. Inside were all sorts of Japanese imported goods including model kits, paints, and brushes. “Gundam Wing!” exclaimed Chat, as they held up a model kit. “That's right,” said Jack, “From Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz of course. And there's more where that came from Chat!” Jack and Chat spent the next few minutes geeking out as they pulled more and more treasures out of the box. When the last model kit was pulled, Jack turned to Chugs who was waiting eagerly off to the side. “And we didn't forget about you of course Chugs!” said Jack, “here are your…” Jack pulled out a smaller box inside the larger one and wrinkled his nose, “Funko, pops.” He handed Chugs the box, which wasn't taped, and promptly left the room. Later that night, In the open doorway to the kid's rooms Cait and Jack watched the young ones sleep. “You gotta connect with them,” Cait said in a hushed voice. “Who, Chugs? They're my kid Cait, I'd die for them, any of them. You know that. ” “I'm not doubting that Jack. And you're a good dad, I'm just saying you could learn to spend a little more time with them. And video games don't count, I'm talking about the stuff they love.” “I do!” said Jack and Chat rolled over in their sleep. Cait shushed their husband. “As much time as you spend painting models with Chat?” “That's different. Chat is into the real shit: models, painting, cutting, gluing. Chugs is like a Funko...person. I mean what the hell do you want to do here Cait?” “Figure it out Jack. Fucking engage with them, they adore you. Just show a little interest —Fake it.” Jack sighed. “Alright. You're right, I'll think of something, but Cait these fucking Funko guys are psychos, they don't even take it out of the box.” Cait rolled her eyes, turned and started to walk away. “The box Cait, they just let it sit there!” Jack hissed after her. “Seriously, do we want to raise our child into the kind of person who--” “Goodnight Jack.” Topics discussed on today's episode include: Funko Pops, George Lucas Drip, Netflix Stadia, Biden Still Anti-weed, DogeCoin Guy Notices Sky is Blue and more! Jack Allison stood in front of the three large bay windows in the living area of an oceanfront condo, gazing out at sea. Behind him, a few feet off the ground, a small pinprick of blue suddenly materialized, like a dollop of blue paint daubed onto canvas by an invisible brush. The dollop soon began to change, first into a teardrop shape and then into an unstoppable swirl, the spirals which constituted the swirl continued to get looser and farther apart as more blue substance unspooled from the dollop's center. It wasn't long before the entire living area was filled with intrusive curves. After some time the swirling ceased and a monstrous blue spiral remained, frozen in mid-air like that of an uncoiled spring, and then suddenly, as if a switch were flipped, the spirals reversed themselves. They began to fold back in on one another and then finally into the center dollop. As each furl rotated back into the center, the dollop itself began to change, becoming more developed, sophisticated in size and shape until it was no longer a simple dollop, but a man. And when the last bit of blue had curved back into its altered origin, Van Robichaux was there on one knee in the space where the dollop had once been. He looked tired. His once Clear Blue colored suit had been sullied and stained to the hue of Royal Blue. There were rips and tears in both his clothing and his face, a stressed canvas framed by an unkempt beard. Ever the consummate professional, Van gave his spiel before he even got his bearings. “Thank You for using the JackAm Bug Tracker. How may I assist you in improving your JackAm show experience?” “Care for a drink, old friend?” Jack's voice, he hadn't turned away from the window. “You sound...tired.” Van nearly broke down then and there, the shock and pleasant surprise of meeting his dear friend like this was almost too much. “Tired?” Van chuckled, it sounded dry in his throat, drier than the Pinot Grigio Jack had swirling in a palmed glass. “Yeah, I'm tired Jack. I've stopped wars, saved marriages, helped loved ones find each other. Hell, I've…” Van forced some saliva down his rusted throat “Killed. All for the show, all for the viewers, all so they could enjoy their JackAm experience unhindered. No matter what was on that Bug-tracker ticket, I did it. Damn me to hell but I did it. No questions asked.” “And it's worked.” Said Jack, and he turned then, did so in a grand spin his arms outstretched gesturing to the opulence of the condo. “And it's worked so very well. The show has never made me more money, and it's all thanks to you, your tireless work, and your bug tracker.” Van smiled, and with that smile, his face returned to better days. “I'm grateful to hear those words, friend, but…” He looked around. “Why did you, of all people, create a ticket? It's your show. What could possibly be the bug?” “Can't you see it old friend?” asked Jack. “Your percentage of the profits. See, that's a problem for me.” And in an instant Jack had a pistol withdrawn from his waist and leveled at Van's face, his Pinot Grigio sloshing in the other hand. “The bug I'd like to report, old friend. Is you.” The gun went off.
