Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing the Mets' poor and sloppy play, the job security of Buck Showalter and Jeremy Hefner, Drew Smith's sticky stuff debacle, Mark Vientos' demotion, and Pride Night at Citi Field. Next, we talk about Rob Manfred's horrible press conference, which included a cowardly stance on team Pride Nights and insisting that the sticky stuff enforcement is actually fine. We also talk about MLB trying to limit spending on technology and front offices, Jacob deGrom's Tommy John surgery, and another woman coming forward accusing Trevor Bauer of sexual assault. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what's making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. Cy Sneed of the Swallows is the guest, we take a quick look at Yakult, discuss Week 3 of interleague play, talk about some specific league leaders, have our Rocking With Roki segment and hit a note on another sexual assault accusation for Trevor Bauer of DeNA.
The Idol is the worst, Sami Sheen: Sex Worker, Drew Crime: Michigan version, Demi Lovato's pronouns, Gen Z is ruining concerts, NCAA's "Hot Girl" problem, and KISS Meets Phantom of the Park. Drew leads us off with an unusual topic... The Beatles. Thanks to AI for all the help. TMZ Live is worse (and more watchable) without Harvey and "Gary Dell'Abate". Kendall Jenner decided to wear basically nothing while dining with Hailey Bieber and Lori Harvey. Drew wants to go to dinner with dudes' dongs hanging out. Max's The Idol is a terrible show. There was a line in the last episode that is so bad Drew won't even repeat it. Lily-Rose Depp can't stop making out with her girlfriend that is named 070 Shake. Janelle Monáe is using her massive boobs again to sell her album. Good move! Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen's daughter is on OnlyFans. She claims she's a "sex worker", but she doesn't have sex or show her nipples. Michigan insurance costs are going up even though certain politicians told us they would go down. Sports: Jane Doe #4 & #5 accuse pitcher Trevor Bauer of sexual assault. The Detroit Tigers still suck. Why does Sammy Sosa look different? Drew Crime: We learn of the true crime Michigan story of Jenny Webb. What is Kevin Adell doing with a water tower? And why does Trudi still have a miniature version of it? Gen Z is killing the concert industry by not buying booze. Taylor Swift finally saw what Drew did in Matty Healy. Serena Williams' 5-year-old daughter owns multiple sports teams. The pronouns Demi Lovato made us use for her got exhausting... for HER... because of us. Ezra Miller walked the red carpet like a superhero. Politricks: Hillary Clinton still won't go away as she breaks her silence about Donald Trump's indictment. Jake Tapper did not want to see b-roll of people singing Happy Birthday to Trump at a restaurant. The Rattletrap was nowhere to be found. Ryan Seacrest may replace Pat Sajak as host of Wheel of Fortune. A 63-year-old driver in Argentina had the worst driving test score possibly ever. Marc watches When Elevators and Escalators Attack... but only likes the Escalator parts. Columbian children are tougher than you, but their airplanes are terrible. The NCAA has a "hot girl problem". Starring the Cavinder Twins. US Olympian Tori Bowie was afraid of hospitals and died during childbirth at home. The Starbucks regional manager that was fired after non-paying customers tried using a bathroom has won $25M. Despite being married to a billionaire, Elizabeth Holmes will not be able to afford $250/month in restitution when she is released from prison. Joe Biden doesn't want to discuss the Ukraine and China deals of the past. The Big Guy says it's malarkey. A Bonerliner sent along this scene from KISS Meets Phantom of the Park. We check with Gordon G. G. Gebert on the film and it's reception. We re-live when Joe Namath tossed a touchdown to Bobby Brady. EPISODE 198: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:43) SPECIAL COMMENT: A huge news day begins and ends with the jury finding, gee, guess what, Donald Trump IS a witch. Liable for sexual abuse against E. Jean Carroll and liable to show up on CNN tonight anyway. The CNN thing is the world coming full circle: three decades ago E. Jean Carroll was inadvertently responsible for launching both MSNBC and Fox News. George Santos has been indicted but nobody would reveal for what - unless Rep. Dan Goldman let the cat out of the bag by saying the Feds had gotten him for "election fraud." The weirdest twist: Capitol Hill Police went to Santos's office out of "an abundance of caution." Did they think he had tried to harm himself? Nothing but stern words after the Biden-McCarthy debt ceiling meeting but POTUS himself invokes the 14th Amendment and the prospect he may say he is constitutionally OBLIGATED to prevent debt default no matter which stunt McCarthy tries. Confirmation from Texas: the Allen Mall shooter WAS a white supremacist named Garcia, with Nazi tattoos, and the conspiracy theory fascists like Elon Musk are idiots. Harlan Crow, the man who owns his own pet Supreme Court Justice, may soon own a subpoena from Finance Committee Chairman Wyden after blowing him off. And there has been a Dianne Feinstein sighting! (Well no, actually, there was just a press release from her staff saying there would BE a Feinstein sighting). B-Block (20:22) IN SPORTS: A Fox Sports/WFAN Radio host may be up to his neck in it after wildly accusing the team with baseball's best record of "cheating" - without any evidence or even made-up story. Trevor Bauer gets beaten up. And the A's are moving again before they even get to Las Vegas. (23:11) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Putin tanks his own parade, Musk and Tucker Carlson join forces to make the world safe for trust fund babies, and Melania Trump endorses Donald Trump because SOMEBODY'S CONTRACT MUSTA BEEN RENEWED. C-Block (29:00) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: 8-month old puppy Bruno, on the kill list in Big Bear, California (30:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Willie Mays turns 92. Not only am I still hoping to recover from the radio interview I did with him in 1979 in which HE PRETENDED TO BE SOMEBODY ELSE, but even in the birthday stories nobody mentioned that after establishing himself as a budding big league superstar Mays missed nearly two full seasons when he was drafted into the army - while all the young white players WEREN'T. That clearly cost him a shot at breaking Babe Ruth's career Home Run record.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We agree with Fernando Tatis, Jr. when he says, “who doesn't love Ha-Seong Kim?” Max Muncy flexes his dad power. Pottymouth's weekly Kiké mention is really about the ceremonial first pitch of his model cousin Sofía Jirau. Last Friday's Hammers vs Os game, with Max Fried vs. Dean Kremer, was the 5th time in MLB history with two Jewish starting pitchers. The High A Hillsboro Hops (with manager Ronnie Gajownik) vs. Vancouver Canadians (Ashley Stephenson position coach) series brought us women in uniform on both sides of the field. Our Police Blotter features a conversation of when is a flub really a flub as we discuss the suspension of Glen Kuiper, As broadcaster, for his on-air racial slur. We highlight the international asshattery of Trevor Bauer, and the multiple plunkings of Arozarena. Bryce Harper and Jose Altuve come back quickly, and Liam Hendriks shines in a rehab start. Justine Siegal piles on the impressive firsts by adding “first woman to coach in LMB.” Our pre-season predictions predictably stink. We say, “It's perfectly acceptable for Arozarena to do his pose at third WHEN HE HITS A TRIPLE,” “Dad to dad baton thing,” and “I bet *he* can rollerblade and not pull anything.” Get boosted, fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. He said there was no ‘screw the Rangers button'. The Devils wanted it more and the Rangers showed little effort. They were shut out twice by a rookie goalie. Jerry is here for his first update and Boomer attacks the bridges and roads of NJ. He is bitter over the Rangers loss. Jerry has audio from Akira Shmid after the game and he gives credit to the whole team. Gerard Gallant also gave credit to the Devils saying they played a ‘real good hockey team'. The Yankees blew a great performance by Domingo German by losing to the Guardians 3-2 in the ninth. The Mets split a doubleheader with the Braves. Francisco Alvarez had the big hit in the game they won. The Knicks and Heat play game 2 at the Garden and we wonder if Jimmy Butler may rest with an injury tonight. James Harden had a huge game against the Celtics and won without Joel Embiid. In the final segment of the hour, what's the future or Rangers Head Coach Gerard Gallant? Most fans seem to want him out. We took a call from a Devils fan who is tired of living in the shadow of the Rangers. Hour 2: Boomer is taking out his anger by badmouthing the bridges in NJ. Callers defend NJ and the bridges and also want Gerard Gallant fired. This has turned into a NJ vs Long Island situation. In between the NJ bashing, a lot of Rangers fans called to complain that nobody showed up for this series. Jerry returns for an update and starts with audio from last night's Devils game 7 win over the Rangers. Lindy Ruff talked about Akira Schmid's playoff performance. We have audio from the Devils win and reaction from Gerard Gallant. The Yankees lost in the ninth after Domingo German was pulled after giving up only two hits. The bullpen blew it in the ninth. In the final few segments of the K&C Masterpiece, Mike runs through some of the things former MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer does and asks Derek Holland on what he thinks about it, plus Rangers Insider Jared Sandler joins to talk Rangers before they look for a sweep of the Royals.
Hour 4: We are looking for the Knicks to play the same in game 2 as they did in game 1 in Cleveland to head back to the Garden up 2-0. They will be without Josh Hart which could be a problem. We also took calls from nervous Rangers fans who seem to have no confidence in them. Jerry returns for an update but first Boomer brings in Gallo (in a Rangers jersey) and Ryan (in a Devils jersey) to talk about who's more nervous. Jerry also told a story of trying to pee in a bottle while stuck in traffic years ago and he ended up peeing on himself. The Knicks are in Cleveland tonight for game 2. The Nets lost to Philly and are now down 0-2. Draymond Green stomped on Domantas Sabonis of the Kings last night and he told us why he did that. The Islanders lost to the Hurricanes 2-1 in game one. Trevor Bauer is doing a video blog on YouTube about his time in Japan and it's getting a ton of views. Jacob de Grom came out of a game where he was throwing a no hitter because he had wrist soreness. In the final segment of the show, Shaun Morash has been in the stall every time someone from the show goes into the bathroom. What's worse: fire, flood or tornado?
Hour 1: We opened with the Islanders loss in game 1 against the Hurricanes. Boomer said somebody hit the ‘screw the Islanders' button. We also talked about game 2 between the Knicks and Cavs tonight and the Rangers/Devils series. Boomer doesn't like when things are going well with the NY teams, how we still find something to complain about. Boomer is feeling butterflies for the upcoming Rangers/Devils game. Gio is concerned if the Rangers lose this series that he'll be hosting with an angry Boomer. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with the Nets loss to the Sixers. It was a tale of two halves as the Nets looked good early and the Sixers took care of business in the second half. Draymond Green stomped on Domantas Sabonis. Shaq understands why Green would stomp him after getting his ankle held. Jerry has audio from the Islanders loss to the Hurricanes, 2-1. Jerry also went around the NBA and NHL from last night's playoff games. The Mets beat the Dodgers 8-6 in a slugfest. Buck Showalter talked about the great defensive game they had. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the price of tickets for the secondary market for playoff games at MSG. Boomer is going to try to stay off social media while watching the Rangers/Devils. Hour 2: We talked about the Knicks game one win against the Cavs as we get ready for game 2 tonight in Cleveland. We talked about RJ Barrett and for some reason didn't seem to be giving a complete effort. We talked about drafting properly for all of the local teams including the Knicks and Jets. Another caller is worried about Quinnen Williams and the Jets contract situation. Hour 3: Blue Jays' Anthony Bass was tweeting at United Airlines for making his pregnant wife clean up the popcorn mess that one of his two young daughters made on a flight.
