Birbigs is back with salt in his attitude AND his beard! That's right! Don and Chuck revisit one of their favorite creative people: Mike Birbiglia. In Don't Think Twice, Birbigglebug once again takes a turn as writer/director/actor in a story about the lives of those within a struggling improv comedy troupe. As their theater prepares to close, each member in the troupe must confront the lies they tell themselves about who they are, what they want, and what they deserve. It's a funny, sad, and often uncomfortable look at when to let go of your dreams in order to move forward in life. As for lessons, Don and Chuck get to dissect how the rules of improv can help the characters--and the audience--lead a more fulfilling life. Cory talks about fast food cheating, Fargo Flash talks college football with the help of Tommy Olson, more grease is laid down, and Cory politely asks the listeners to help get comedian Mike Birbiglia to come in studio in February!
Hi. Marc Hershon here, host of Epi217 of Succotash. In honor of the pandemic – wait, that doesn’t sound right. Because of the pandemic, we’ve repositioned ourselves and our full name is currently as Succotash Shut-In: The Soundcast Stimulus Package. Mostly because we saw that the ratings for soundcasts – or “podcasts” as older folks refer to them – has dropped precipitously. So we’re cranking these things out once a week now, regular as a guy with a double espresso and a pint of prune juice. If you missed last week, episode 216, you didn’t get to hear my co-host Tyson Saner share clips from a trio of shows, including Trashy Trashy, Deluxe Edition: Yet Another Pop Culture Podcast, and I Don't Want to Talk About Fight Club Anymore. You can still grab it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher and wherever find soundcasts appear. This show is not ALL about comedy soundcast clips. No, sir or ma’am. We sometimes do our own thing, like the SleeveTalkers pilot episode we featured a couple of months ago. And we like to talk to soundcasters, and comedians, and other showbiz folk. (Hell, I’d talk to a carny, if the chance presents itself.) But today, for Epi217, we’ve got a special guest. He’s a comedian, an actor, a writer, a director, a producer, a father, a son, a husband, maybe a member of the Illuminati but, more than anything, he is a soundcaster, too. Mike Birbiglia joins us today. We’re going to talk about his latest soundcast – he’s had a few – and Working It Out with Mike Birbiglia has been getting some rave notices. From me, for one, as I reviewed a recent episode for this Week in Comedy Podcasts on Vulture.com. The premise of the show is that he has interesting, creative guests on and he talks to them about their lives but also what is it that they’re working on RIGHT NOW. Before I get to our chat in this installment, I clip a bit of that episode I reviewed first, featuring his guest Roy Wood, Jr., a funny comedian you may recognize from The Daily Show and – from aways back – Last Comic Standing. Our sponsors this episode include Henderson's Pants, featuring their newest line: Henderson's Summer Stock Slacks, and Trumpoetry.com. Big thanks to Mike Birbiglia for taking the time out of his busy day to chat for a bit. You can catch his soundcast, Working It Out with Mike Birbiglia on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Google Play, or right from his own homesite: Birbigs.com. If you liked what you heard, don’t be afraid to drop by Apple Podcasts to orate and review the show. Tyson will be back next week with a passle o’ comedy soundcast clips. And in the meantime, stay safe, breathe shallow, and remember to please, pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Comedian Mike Birbiglia discusses his new book The New One: Painfully True Stories from a Reluctant Dad including the seven reasons he originally never wanted to be a parent, the lies couples tell themselves when they decide to have a baby, and the scourge of parents who try to push babies on other people. He opens up about he and his wife's initial troubles conceiving, reveals that President Barack Obama was the first person to learn that they were pregnant, and shares some pretty good parenting advice that they got from the leader of the free world. He talks about the moment when he finally felt like a member of his own family again, the pleasure of seeing the world through his daughter’s eyes, and whether this reluctant father might be ready to give Oona a baby brother or sister. Plus sugar-fries, snot suckers, magic sleep suits, and more! Order Mike Birbiglia's book The New One: Painfully True Stories from a Reluctant Dad on Amazon, Audible, or wherever books are sold. Watch Mike’s Netflix special The New One and subscribe to his new podcast Mike Birbiglia’s Working It Out on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever you like to listen. GQ caught up with Ricky Gervais who would host the Oscars...on his own terms. He also is thinking about podcasting again. Patton Oswalt and Mike Birbiglia bring the heat on twitter. Bert Kreischer has a funny story about beer on stage. A streaming comedy benefit includes Bill Burr and Tom Segura. Vulture says if you like Jim Gaffigan and Birbigs you should check out Ray Romano, Chad Daniels and Al Madrigal.
Celebrate the 50th episode of SLGttP Kenn Edwards (@TheKennEdwards) as he reviews the recent, very successful shows he hosts at The Hot Spot (@HotSpotWboro) with the founding members of the Comedy Square Table (ComedySqTable): Tom (TWagzSr) & Rosy (@Breasticules) Wagoner, Farley Smythe, and Brooks Hoover (@Hooverman89). Do you enjoy laughter? You're in store for it. About half of this is clips from our sets! Enjoy! (And yes, that cameo in the intro is for real!)

Birbigs 3peats on the Nerdist Podcast to discuss his critically acclaimed new film "Sleepwalk With Me". Mild but not Earth-shattering spoilers ensue and in between jokes about using babies as camera phones the guys actually get into some uncharacteristically heavy relationship break-up talk. Could this be considered "a very special Nerdist Podcast"??? YOU DECIDE. And then rejoice in the powers of decision you have in the universe.
Birbigs makes his second appearance on the podcast!
