Opening BanterHosts discuss their busy week, humorously referencing comedians Jim Gaffigan and Dane Cook about the chaos of parenting.Easter season is highlighted as a joyful but busy time.Transition to Office LifeDiscussion about returning to office work after a period of working from home. One host shares the challenges of balancing work with family life, especially with six young children and homeschooling demands. The other host enjoys a unique office setup with fellow Catholic businessmen, allowing for faith-based discussions and idea-sharing.Business and Catholic PrinciplesHosts explore how secular business podcasts often unknowingly adopt Catholic virtues like prudence and wisdom.Advice from a business perspective: surround yourself with the right people to change your life, and prioritize who you work with over the job itself.Reflecting on early career lessons:Taking risks is crucial for success.Money isn't everything once basic needs are met; pursuing it excessively can lead to disordered priorities.Hard work is valuable but ineffective if not directed toward the right goals.Pilgrimage PromotionPromotion of Select International Tours, a long-time sponsor offering pilgrimages to holy sites worldwide.Visit selectinternationaltours.com for details.High Levels of Manliness WarningA humorous callback to early episodes, warning listeners about the "high levels of manliness" on the show.Remembering Pope FrancisHosts reflect on Pope Francis' passing:Personal memory: Pope Francis kissing one host's daughter in 2015.Notable moments: His global benediction during COVID and the phrase "shepherds need to smell like sheep."Speculation about the timeline for electing a new pope, with a nod to historical conclave delays.Eucharistic Miracle StoryStory of Father Peter of Prague, a 13th-century German priest who doubted the Real Presence.During Mass in Bolsena, Italy, the host bled, leading to the establishment of the Feast of Corpus Christi by Pope Urban IV.St. Thomas Aquinas composed hymns like Tantum Ergo and Pange Lingua for the feast. The miraculous host is preserved in Orvieto, which the hosts will visit on their October pilgrimage with listeners.Spiritual Insights from Solid Virtue by Father BalakiusDiscussion of Solid Virtue by Jesuit priest Father Balakius, published by Coresu Press.Recollection:Defined as watchfulness and awareness of God's presence, akin to an "earthly heaven."Benefits: Prevents sin, reduces weariness, and fosters joy in God's love.Three sources: solitude, silence, and avoiding news (to curb curiosity and anxiety).Particular Examine:Focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of faults, not just external behaviors.Analogous to treating the cause of a disease, not just symptoms.Requires self-knowledge, possibly aided by friends, a spouse, or spiritual direction. After correcting major faults, shift to perfecting daily actions and cultivating virtues.Spiritual Warfare:Involves a firm resolution to amend faults, renewed twice daily (morning and noon).Resolutions should be short-term (half-day increments) to avoid discouragement.Twice-daily examination of conscience (noon and evening) to track progress.Keep a log of faults to compare daily and weekly progress, ensuring empirical improvement.Practical ApplicationsHosts emphasize the practicality of Balakius' advice, comparing it to business...

We flashback to discuss a movie that was much-requested when it was first released, but just didn't fit into our schedule -- Jerry Seinfeld's baffling paean to the Pop Tart, Unfrosted, a film that throws an astounding cavalcade of comedy talent at ideas that seem (apologies) a bit undercooked. Also, we were blessed by the rare in-studio presence of our beloved producer, Alex Smith, who hadn't actually seen the movie, which made explaining the madness of the "plot" all the more enjoyable.Wikipedia page for UnfrostedRecommended in this episode:Dan: The In-Laws (1979)Stu: Sexy Beast (2000)Elliott: Dark Days (2000)Alex: Gridlock (1996)Aura has a great deal for Mother's Day. Because we like to keep things fresh around here, let's flip the usual approach and start with the roundup so we can close with the centerpiece of this episode:As our hosts are both dumpling aficionados, they were happy to talk about the places doing them right around the city. They also check in on Kinship Café, which got some well-deserved attention thanks to a recent visit from comedian (and volunteer) Jim Gaffigan.Over on the East Side, Crossroads Collective will close so “a local restaurant” (possibly Shanghai) can expand into the space. All caught up? Great. We've got special guests to introduce.Chris Corkery established Hundred Acre during what can be generously called tumultuous times. It was 2020, and just about everyone had suddenly gotten to know the term “supply chain” and how disrupting it can change pretty much everyone's lives. One of the areas most affected in those circumstances is the food system, especially when it comes to underserved areas in cities like outs. Corkery decided to address the situation by establishing Hundred Acre — an urban farm “providing a rapid response solution to food insecurity in the heart of Milwaukee.”It's an ambitious project that's still going strong five years later, and yet somehow we've never had Corkery on the podcast to talk about it. So we made up for lost time by covering the farm's origin story, why he chose Milwaukee over other cities, “pesto with purpose” and growing even more in the years ahead.

Father Marcel Taillon joins Patrick to discuss lying. (3:15) Lying is not a joke, Christ never lied. We all need to tell the truth and know the truth that is Christ (3:41) April Fool's Day done in the right sense is good thing, we just don’t want to scare or hurt someone by lying. (5:39) Peter denied Christ and lied. What might tempt us to not tell the truth. (5:58) St. Thomas Moore remained silent during his trial and so did Jesus. Thomas Moore did not deny his love for the Church or his live for the king. Silence can be a way of not denying the truth and avoiding being overly defensive. (10:54) Part of avoiding lying is to avoid over emphasizing our opinion of someone online and on social media even if it is true (11:15) Social media raises the potential to hurt and confuse people so we must be on guard. (13:06) Lying puts up roadblocks to true reconciliation (19:46) the Antibiotic of lying is mercy (22:17) Break 1 (24:00) Henry - I have a problem with lying. Compulsive lying. I will take stuff and stretch the excuse. My mom always finds out. (28:40) Jim Gaffigan (31:46) Tonya - My husband has a gambling problem. He says everybody lies and everybody tries to con everybody. Is everybody really that way? I don't believe that. (39:01) Break 2 (40:31) Scott - My brother and I were in a feud. I read 1 John 4-20 and that turned it all around for me. We're doing great now and are reconciled. (46:32) Al - My husband and lying. I can't trust him anymore. I ask him if he's lying, but I know he is. It's coming so easy and it's breaking my heart.
