The 2022 Emmy Awards aired Monday night to complete silence...as mainstream America once again refused to tune-in. For the second time in three years...the Emmy Awards set record low ratings. We reveal and react to the 2022 Emmy Awards ratings. We also react to several terrible moments throughout the show...including another unfunny stunt by Jimmy Kimmel. We explain why America no longer cares about Hollywood...and show where Hollywood was warned two years ago by Ricky Gervais.
Nancy's reporting from Portland, where tragedy struck after a man accused of domestic abuse was bailed out by an activist organization. Sarah's reporting from her couch, where the Emmys forced her to sit through a women-pooping commercial not once but three times. They discuss the glory of Sheryl Lee Ralph bursting into song and how Jimmy Kimmel's gag went wrong. Is “White Lotus” worth watching? Did everyone but Sarah know that Matthew McFayden, aka Tom on “Succession,” was British? And can Ricky Gervais just host all future award ceremonies, please? We turn to the dust-up at Oberlin College, where an altercation at a beloved local bakery exploded into accusations of racial profiling and protests that cratered a family business. The resulting court case led to a $36 million fine for the college, which has not paid a dime — until now. We wonder if cases like this will make administrators think twice before jumping into the fray, and we notice how enclaves of privilege often protest the loudest about other people's privilege. In the hot box this week: Nancy praises the genius who made “Pet Sounds,” while Sarah tries to decode the sounds of her pet. This is a public episode. On today's episode of Athleisure Kitchen, I catch up with Brian Baumgartner who The Office fans know played Kevin Malone. We talk about this iconic show that brought us into a branch of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton PA. Viewers enjoyed seeing all the dynamics that are involved with co-workers, engaging in office politics, breaking the 4th wall copiously in a mockumentary style and of course the iconic moment when his character introduced us to his chili! We wanted to know more about how that came together and what led Brian to dropping his own cookbook, Seriously Good Chili Cookbook 177 of the Best Recipes in the World which is available on Sept 13th! We talk about his approach to creating the cookbook, gathering fans of the show as well as chefs who have won awards for their creations and how he really examines the world of chili from including his own recipe, chili con carne, chili verde, white chicken chili, texas chili, other categories and of course Kevin's Famous Chili! I'm pleased that you'll find my recipe for Mezcal Jalapeño and Tortilla Strips Chili Verde along with my recipe for Mexican Lime Crema in this book with a little story of why this is one of my favorite chilis to make as a connoisseur of the category!New York Times Best-Selling Author Brian Baumgartner's new chili cookbook, Seriously Good Chili Cookbook, is available everywhere now. Visit seriouslygoodchilicookbook.com for additional information and to order your copy today! We talk about the impact of The Office, how his enjoyment of the original British series led by Ricky Gervais made him want to be part of the US one, his podcast that peeled the many layer of the onion on how this show came together in The Office Deep Dive Podcast and his other podcast, Off the Beat which digs into some of your other favorite shows and sharing the actors thoughts on it as well as jobs that they had, stories that you may not have heard and moving on from their iconic roles! Pigweed and Crowhill review an imperial stout and discuss humor. What makes a joke funny? Can we classify different types of jokes? Why do we tell jokes? What social purpose do they serve? Can humor serve as a corrective, to show us how things are supposed to be? Do jokes train people in what's appropriate and inappropriate? The boys dig into these questions as they reflect on a recent Ricky Gervais performance. The left used to defend offensive and irreverent humor. Now there are elements on the left that are trying to restrict humor. Examining the nature and function of humor helps to explain why there's an assault on humor now. People are trying to change sensibilities.

Ben and Tao think therefore they are, getting mindfully and consciously philosophical, in 2015’s subaquatic survival horror existential crisis cultivator, SOMA. The conversation gets as deep as the abyss, with topics covering euthanasia; the nature of human existence, consciousness and digital transcendence; different forms of horror - the horrifying and the horrendous; artificial intelligence, super intelligence, digital taps and the Paperclip Maximizer hypothetical; and the concept of the ‘Human Black Box’ to document the last seconds of people’s lives. Plus, Tao becomes the second person to diagnose Ben with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Tao is not a doctor. Caution: a crap ton of story spoilers from early in the pod. They are forecast in advance.Content Warning: PEGI 15. Swearing, sounds of screaming. Tao’s tap. The horror, the horror…Clarifications:SOMA was released on September 22, 2015. It’s a sci-fi horror game from Frictional Games, the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The name SOMA is not an acronym, it originates from the Greek word σῶμα (soma) which refers to the body, specifically the body as distinct from the mind or the soul.Robert Nozick was an American philosopher. The Paperclip Maximizer is a thought experiment described by Swedish philosopher Nick Bostrom, author of the book Superintelligence.Audio extracts:Windows XP start up and shut down soundsUpgrade (2018) feat. Author, speaker and communications trainer Pellegrino Riccardi opens Act 1 reflecting on growing up as a child of Italian immigrants in the UK; “You know, once I left the door of the house I was in the UK… When I went back in the house again, I was back in Italy.” He shares the contrasts between his rugged Italian “hillbilly” roots and the relatively polite English schools in which he was educated… and the impact of the dark, controlling - even violent - shadow side of his school experience.Pellegrino discusses the wisdom behind pushing boundaries, drawing on influences that range from comic Ricky Gervais to his own gun-toting, rough-and-tumble cousins he spent time with every summer in Italy. He reminds us that without pushing boundaries and taking risks, growth simply doesn't happen. We spend a few minutes on the “Slap Seen ‘Round the World”, leading us into a rich conversation about the roots of violence - including that which Pelligrino experienced, witnessed and, coming full circle, came to perpetrate in his own home.Pellegrino wraps up Act 1 by speaking on the intersections of shame, pain, violence, trauma, shortcomings, and the importance of finding language and other ways of communicating - honestly and transparently - what is present, lest things unexpressed find their way to violent acting out.For over 30 years, Pellegrino Riccardi has excited and delighted audiences all over the world with a style of public speaking that brings together the ability to present complex ideas in a simple and accessible way, which is then wrapped up in a seamless fusion of masterful storytelling and observational humour.Pellegrino has a unique ability to quickly connect with a wide spectrum of audiences, from Baby-Boomers to Z Generation, from public sector employees to C-suite executives, from high-risk entrepreneurial enterprises to more “conservative” international organisations. You can find out more on his website, on LinkedIn, Facebook, or "the Insta."If you're a man or know any, Pellegrino's book, Drowning Quietly - Memoir of a Man's Shortcomings, is highly recommended reading!

PAWS OF FURY: THE LEGEND OF HANK tells the story of HANK, a loveable dog with a head full of dreams about becoming a samurai, sets off in search of his destiny. Because this movie was first announced as a remake of Mel Brooks' Blazzing Saddles, & was originally titled "Blazing Samurai" the writers of the original film received screenplay credits, as the film lifts the plot & various jokes from Blazing Saddles & puts a more family friendly spin on them.PAWS OF FURY: THE LEGEND OF HANK stars Michael Cera, Samuel L. Jackson, Ricky Gervais, Mel Brooks, George Takei, Michelle Yeoh, Cathy Shim and Djimon Hounsou.
In this THINGS HIDDEN episode, David Gornoski is joined by Alex Kaschuta, host of the Subversive podcast. Alex Kaschuta critiques the recent trend of liberals criticizing wokeism within a social libertarian atmosphere. Where is this trajectory of wokeness headed? Would the New York Times ever champion the rights of Afghan children killed by Biden's drone strikes? Can the Right use the Left's victim aesthetic against the leftist establishment? What do we make of the "New Right" feature in Vanity Fair? Check out the Subversive Podcast here. Visit A Neighbor's Choice website here.
Barnstorming breakthrough-in-waiting, Sean McLoughlin is extremely adept at big chunky stand-up with an interesting moral core. We outline his journey from an angry young man who either needed “a hug or a slap”, through the transformative effects of both being onstage and getting proper therapy, to a towering performer with gigs at the Palladium, Sydney Opera House and the Royal Albert Hall under his belt. We also discover his conscious effort to maintain eye contact; how he became more reliable to bookers; and whether tall people come across as angry when they're just animated…25 mins of extra content available exclusively to the Insiders Club includes Sean's reaction to sharing a name with one of the most famous people on the internet; and advice for comics starting tour support, which Sean has done at the highest level, from Sydney Opera House to the Royal Albert Hall, in service of comics like Bill Burr, Katherine Ryan and Ricky Gervais.Go to www.comedianscomedian.com/insiders for ad-free episodes, extra content from every show that has it, and much more - including the exclusive Insiders Q&As with Nish Kumar, Alfie Brown, James Acaster and Fern Brady, plus the incredible “self-help for comedians” special with Amanda Donnet.Catch up with Sean McLoughlin:Edinburgh Fringe: Pleasance Beneath, 19:55https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/sean-mcloughlin-so-be-itPodcast “Failing Better” with Jonny Pelham: @failingpodwww.seanmcloughlincomedy.comTW: @seanmcloughlinIG: @seanmcloughlincomedyEverything Stu's up to:Edinburgh Fringe: Monkey Barrel, 13:25 (4-11th only) https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/stuart-goldsmith-a-shared-illusion-wipThis podcast is @ComComPod on Twitterwww.comedianscomedian.comIG and Tik: @stuartgoldsmithcomedyFind out everything Stu's up to at www.stuartgoldsmith.comStu offers remote and in-person talks to business, distilling insights from over 400 comics on cultivating resilience and the ability to bounce back, to all levels from C-suite to team members.“There's perfect and there's perfect; and that was perfect.” David Cooper, Chief People Officer Circle Health Group See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

I Is comedy under threat from woke culture? Join Rob as he talks to comedian and writer Russell Kane all about cancel culture, comedy and business. They also delve deep into the difficulties of masculinity in the modern world and the role of social media in comedy and mental health. KEY TAKEAWAYS Russell Kane doesn't think that there is a war on comedy. Some of the most popular comedians of today say very controversial things such as Ricky Gervais and Jimmy Carr. More things can be said now than back in the 70s, we've just changed what can't be said. When words cause violence or real psychological damage, then it's not ok. You need boundary, argument and debate at the periphery of comedy, that's where the humour lies. Russell learnt, through copywriting and comedy, to separate his ego from his art and creativity. He learnt to handle rejection well. Russell never planned to go into comedy, it was simply one of the things he thought he would try and it turned out that he was good at it! Comedy for Russell was like crack cocaine, his life was falling apart, yet he kept going back to stand up for more. He had to make a decision ,and this is when he quit his job. Russell approaches his comedy career like a business. It's one of the ways he protects himself from setbacks. Coming from a working class background and living an ordinary life before comedy means that Russell always has and still can, tap into how an ordinary person thinks. The more successful you get as a comedian, the more negativity you pick up along the way. Look for the ideas that don't make sense, this is often where the magic lies and Russell has seen this again and again in both business and comedy. Planning for the future is something Russell has always focuses on. He has always had a plan and diversified ways to make a living for now and the future too. If you aren't willing to put in the work to build a stand up career, then you aren't going to have a career full stop. Practice is the key to success for comedy. Russell is so successful because he has worked hard and spent time refining and practicing his art. A lot of what people are interpreting as anti-freedom of speech is actually just unsophisticated AI, it's often just technology gone wrong. Masculinity is a mess; this is why Kane started his series Man Baggage, exploring exactly this. We need better sex education and emotional education for men. BEST MOMENTS “People forget how much we can say now” “Does it cause harm, hate or criminal activity in the real world, if not it's probably ok” “My first language remains chav” “Slow, highly engaged growth is what you want [on social media]) “It's all practice, I'm not genius at work here I probably just have more willpower” “Something has gone wrong with masculinity” “Men use humour as a salve” VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter https://robmoore.com/podbooks rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator.
