Communication expert Chris Fenning quite literally wrote the book on why this happens and - more importantly - how to fix it. We discuss two simple frameworks for clearer communication, why waffle reads as disrespect rather than charm + the uncomfortable truth that people rate your competence based on how quickly you get to the point. Being clearer can change the trajectory of your career. Look for more author interviews in this strand. In this episode, Clint has a conversation with Joel Schwartzberg, communication coach, public speaking expert, and author of “Get to the Point!” During the discussion, Joel shares why most leaders struggle to communicate clearly, how the inability to define a true point undermines impact, and what it takes to craft messages that inspire understanding and action.Drawing on his experience as a national champion public speaker and executive communications leader, Joel explains the difference between sharing information and making a point, why audiences remember only one key idea at a time, and how leaders can sharpen their messaging to drive results. The conversation explores practical frameworks like the “I believe that…” test and the X-Y structure to ensure communication connects with what audiences care about most.Joel also provides actionable guidance on improving emails, presentations, and everyday workplace communication, from writing better subject lines to using PowerPoint more effectively. We often have something meaningful to say – but the way we say it can get in the way. We overload our listener with backstory, hoping to make them understand, and end up muddying the message instead. In this episode, I explore why this happens and how a small shift in how we speak can make a big difference.***I'm your host, Sarah Mikutel, a communication and mindset coach. My work is about helping people like you share your voice, strengthen your relationships, and have more fun.As an American expat living in the U.K., I value curiosity, courage, and joy. A few things I love: wandering European streets in search of the best vegetarian meal, practicing Italian, and helping my clients design lives that feel rich and meaningful. If you're ready to have conversations that open doors – in your career, your relationships, and your life – let's talk.Feeling on edge lately? You're not alone. What if I created a membership where we'll practice techniques I use with my one-to-one clients to calm the nervous system – and have fun while we're at it.If this community sounds great to you, get on the waitlist to register your interest. This helps me gauge interest and puts you first in line for special founder pricing if it launches. Do you ever go blank or start rambling when someone puts you on the spot? I created a free Conversation Cheat Sheet with simple formulas you can use so you can respond with clarity, whether you're in a meeting or just talking with friends.Download it at sarahmikutel.com/blanknomore and start feeling more confident in your conversations today.

If you don't have a point, everything you say is pointless.Oliver speaks with Joel Schwartzberg, communication expert and author of “The Language of Leadership” and “Get to the Point” (updated edition out this month).Let's face it, there is too much rambling and hot air in business. Joel shares concepts such as the “I Believe That” Test and the “XY Test” that help leaders ensure they have a clearly defined point before they speak. This is a highly actionable episode about avoiding rambling for good, ditching the performance and instead delivering your message like a real human, and escaping the trap of truisms. Hi everyone, Carl Gould here with your #70secondCEO. Just a little over a one-minute investment every day for a lifetime of results. Generally speaking, I would say let's have a cadence. I like the cadence. I suspect you may not have had one of the speakers or a consultant come to you and say raise your prices today. So this would be a one-off where even if you're like well wait a minute we just raised our prices in September. So what? Raise them again. Most of your clients won't even notice, right? But you need to get to the point where you start to get the yes, but. Like, Doug, yeah, I wanna be part of your group, but, oof, you know, I thought it was gonna be this number and you came in at that number and, oi, it's just a little bit higher than I thought, but is there something we can work out? That's when you know you're priced right when you get the yes but like a little bit higher than I thought Randy I really wanted to do this huh you're at 10,000 a month and I you know to be honest I thought it was gonna be more like eight that's kind of what we had budgeted right so in other words if they say Randy you lost your mind I'm not doing that and they leave you're too high or they're like oh that's what you charge yeah all right good all right you're too low but if you get the yes but that's the sign that you're priced right for that avatar Like and follow this podcast so you can learn more. My name is Carl Gould and this has been your Like and follow this podcast so you can learn more. My name is Carl Gould and this has been your #70secondCEO.

Do you know what this show is about? If you said “influencer marketing,” you're close, but not necessarily wrong. If you said “influence marketing” you're more right. And if you said, the exploration of how brands can apply influence in all its shapes and forms, to aide it their marketing, you're spot-on. But if you weren't spot-on, that's my fault, not yours. It's an example of my marketing and communications with you failing to deliver the point. It's an exercise in clarity. And Steve Woodruff is probably the person on the planet with the most expertise and focus on helping business, brands and leaders nail clarity. His new book is called The Point: How to win with clarify-fueled communications. It is a handy guide and reminder to its readers of how to get to the point and not allow your communications to get lost in translation. Or drown out by the sea of noise that is our media landscape. I asked Steve to come on the show to talk to us about getting to the point. Why do we have so much trouble doing so, even when we're supposed to be professional communicators? What barriers are in our way to communicating effectively? And how can we as brands, or influencers and content creators, check our work to ensure that we are always, getting to the point? We'll ask him all those questions and more today on Winfluence. This episode of Winfluence is presented by CIPIO.ai. We are helping brands transform their digital marketing with user-generated content videos and images at scale. Come see us at CIPIO.ai. If you want me to personally show you the platform and how we can solve your digital marketing performance problems with high-performing UGC, just go to jasonfalls.co/cipio … fill out that form and I'll personally set up time to chat with you. I received the question: How do I get to the point of truly wanting eating peace? The one asking has to believe they must not want peace, based on the evidence of off-balance eating. They're believing, as we all do sometimes, that peace is not present or available right now. It's coming sometime in the future, I just have to hunt it down. "I need to make my wanting be directed to wanting peace....TRULY" (says the mind). But what if right in the middle of intense wanting is something important, a natural movement--just like the body needs water, or needs to get up and go to the bathroom? What if our vision of "not wanting" is also a little skewed? What if we can be OK with the way we are, right now, and also in the moment of reaching take a close look at what's going on right there when we're looking back at ourselves and deciding "that person wasn't wanting the 'right' thing". She has a special love and specific programs for those suffering from eating issues including disordered eating (disordered thinking) of all kinds--having suffered from this behavior and thought/feeling process herself and finding an unshakable peace within around eating, food, health and behaviors with eating. As Byron Katie offers us (founder of The Work); when we believe what we think, it creates unnecessary suffering. When we question what we think, we feel lighter and less serious about what is. We even begin to laugh. We notice who we really are is peaceful already, a human being living life as best we can--learning, growing, loving.
