In 2003, Mr. DaGrosa and his partners formed Heartland Food Corp. (“Heartland”), an acquisition vehicle that acquired 248 Burger King franchises out of bankruptcy, and successfully co-led the turnaround and sale of Heartland to GSO Capital (now part of Blackstone). In 2008, Mr. DaGrosa co-led the acquisition of Jet Support Services Inc. (“JSSI”), the world's largest independent provider of warranty and insurance programs for the maintenance of private jets. Mr. DaGrosa served as Vice-Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer of JSSI until the sale of the company in 2020 to GTCR. Prior to 1848, Mr. DaGrosa was a Partner at Maplewood Partners LP, a Miami-based private equity firm, where he served as Co-Head of Transactions and Chief Administrative Partner. Mr. DaGrosa began his career in 1986 at Paine Webber, Inc. in the firm's Management Audit and Controls Program and from 1988 to 1996 worked as a financial advisor in the firm's Special Accounts Group. Mr. DaGrosa currently serves on the board of directors for Hoy Health LLC, Soccerex LLC, and Brazil Tower Company LP, and previously served on the board of Global Crossing Airlines Group Inc., Eastern Airlines Group Inc., and SMobile Systems, Inc. He also serves on the board of Camillus House, a non-profit organization focused on meeting the needs of Miami's homeless citizens. The mayor of Miami has an ambitious goal—to reach a “functional zero” homeless population within his bustling city. “We reached functional zero veteran homeless, and I realized … that we could, we should, take it a step further and get to a functional zero,” says Mayor Francis Suarez, a Republican who leads Florida's second-biggest city.Miami is partnering with several organizations—including Hermanos de la Calle, Lotus House, and Camillus House—to meet the varied needs of the homeless and create a model that other cities could duplicate to tackle their own homelessness crises. But Suarez says addressing homelessness extends beyond meeting the physical, mental, and emotional needs of the homeless—cities must also create an economic environment that allows all citizens to thrive. If city leaders want to effectively address homelessness, Suarez argues, they also must consider a “broader macroeconomic reality” that plays a role in creating or alleviating the problem. To this end, the mayor says Miami's government has followed three rules: “We've kept taxes low; we've kept people safe; and we've leaned into innovation.” Suarez joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to explain how Miami is advancing toward a “functional zero” homeless population and to share the exciting results of a recent event toward reaching that goal. What started as an Instagram page to showcase cool beards and a clothing line in 2014, has evolved into something not even its originator could've imagined....On April 10, 2015 the Miami Chapter was born. and with it came their president, Daniel Perez. When the Miami Chapter got together, they wanted to be more than just a brotherhood; they wanted to be a symbol of hope and prosperity. In April 2015, they did their first charity event, which led to them partnering with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to make a three year old leukemia patient's wish come true. Through this event and the Bearded Villains network, they also found his life-saving donor. This act of selflessness and love made their chapter the talk of the community, while inspiring fellow Bearded Villain chapters to participate in charity events as well. As the Miami Chapter, they have worked with : Make-A-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and Camillus House. We have also participated in several walks such as: Walk to Defeat LS, Autism Walk, Walk to Cure Arthritis, Race for the Cure (Breast Cancer fundraiser) to name some.
