It's the late 90's, March of 1999 to be exact, a 15 year old girl whispers into the home phone, long before every teenager had a mobile phone and a million ways of communicating with the outside world. It's a private phone call, the girl had been explicitly told not to divulge details of this conversation to anyone. This phone call was tragically the beginning of the end for Rachel Barber.Do you want to hear a story?

As the pandemic induced global recession continues to spiral, it is unclear what shape Formula 1 will be in once we emerge on the other side. To discuss the financial side of F1 this week I'm joined by Christian Sylt from FormulaMoney.com (Twitter @FormulaMoney). Christian, who along with Caroline Reid, founded Formula Money back in 2007 and their work is featured regularly in well-know publications included the Daily Telegraph, the Wall Street Journal and Forbes. The pair also frequently comment on Formula 1 on a variety of television channels including the BBC, CNN, CNBC and more. **Smashing the Glass Ceiling, the Right to Work, and a new Name for the Children’s Hospital** This week on Sparking Change we’re talking about some of the true-blue rebels in Irish history – Dr Kathleen Lynn, and Hannah Sheehy-Skeffington – and the women commemorating them today. We also have a panel discussion whether the new right to work scheme for those in Direct Provision goes far enough. In her editorial this week, Dil discusses Female Genital Mutilation, the beliefs behind it, and why there’s no way to have a balanced discussion about it. **Dr Micheline Sheehy Skeffington (4:42)** We are joined by Dr Micheline Sheehy-Skeffington for a lesson in history and feminism. The granddaughter of one of Ireland’s foremost suffragettes, Hannah Sheehy-Skeffington, Micheline joins us to discuss smashing windows, (and glass ceilings) and marking the centenary of the women’s right to vote. **Caroline Reid and Ellie Kisyombe - The Right to Work (36:43)** Caroline Reid from the Irish Refugee Council, and Ellie Kisyombe from Our Table join us this week to discuss the new right to work scheme for those in Direct Provision, and why the extensive restrictions in place make it a bittersweet victory. Ellie takes us through how she stays positive in Direct Provision, and the power of food in connecting people. **Deirdre Mullen and Emily Duffy: Name the National Children’s Hospital after Dr. Kathleen Lynn (1:07:40)** Deirdre Mullen has started an online uplift petition to name the National Children’s Hospital after Dr. Kathleen Lynn. Dr. Lynn was the founder of an all-female run hospital for the impoverished mothers and children in Dublin in 1919 and was the chief medical officer of the Irish Citizen Army. So why do more people not know about her?
Cutting use of plastic requires smarter design and increasing circularity in waste management processes. In this podcast with Ian Welsh, Caroline Reid, project manager strategic sustainable development, Ikea, outlines the company's plastic use and targets to reduce this. She explains the drivers behind them, including a very-aware customer base and strong momentum from the company's corporate culture. Reid argues the case for better recycling and waste management processes that make things easier for consumers to help business develop more closed loop processes for plastic and other materials. She says that prolonging product life is a core way to cut resource use, and their design is key to achieving this, such as making products modular so they can be added to or adapted over time.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome aboard to the 99th flight of Swish Air. We've been cleared for take off and your flight crew--Dale, Scott & Steve--are in the cockpit and they're pulling back on their yokes. Ready for the jokes? This week, we welcome back to the show the first lady of the skyways, Pam Ann. This international air hostess is one of the funniest comediennes we know and we were thrilled that she made time for us again. She talks about her transition to living in New York City, her stint at the XL Nightclub, her upcoming European tour, crewing for pain-in-the-ass Elton John, all about her new DVD, her plans for a Pam Ann movie, and so much more. Pam (aka Caroline Reid) is so dirty and so very un-PC. Our kinda girl! We also have two new songs from our OTHER favorite funny lady Miss Sherry Vine! We've been chatting with her lately and learned that she just keeps churning them out. One is an original called, Lost In You, and a parody of Alisha Keys' Girl On Fire, which Sherry made into Girl For Hire, naturally. Love us our Sherry fix! The hosts also discuss their recent trip to Madonna's MDNA concert, Steve's Botox, Paul Ryan's sorta-kinda support for the gays, why you still can't eat that chicken, Paris Hilton and the cabbie's audio tape, Iran and butt babies, P!NK's hot new album, the Emmy Awards, and much, much more. So sit back, buckle your seat belt, and get ready for a very bumpy flight.
