Happy Easter everyone! Whether you celebrate Easter or not, we hope that you have a great weekend with the people who bring you joy in life. In this weeks' episode, Oat Milk Money, we want to know what grocery item you'd continue buying no matter the price. You might be surprised by some of the answers. If you could name your brain, what name would you give it and why? Do you think maybe you'd talk to yourself more than you already do? When someone says something that just grinds your gears, how do you stop it from happening? Do they change? Do you change? Both? We also want to know what things you're talking about these days. Do you discuss people, events, or ideas? I suppose we all do a little bit of everything. For today's episode I thought it would be interesting to break down whether oat milk is "bad" for you because it seems to consistently be demonized in the media and I wanted to know for myself since I personally like it. We cover the three major arguments people pose when discussing oat milk and break down what the science has to say about each one: It raises your blood sugar. It is a source of seed oils which are “bad” for you. It is sprayed with glyphosates which lead to cancer. I also share the flip side which is the positives of drinking oat milk and help you make the decision best for your health. Question from IG. Can you share a bit about how pregnancy impacted your movement routine? Connect with me @hautehealthy @plantbasednotperfect hauteandhealthy.com
Is oat milk really bad for you? This week, we dive into the oat milk backlash—why sales are dropping, whether it actually spikes blood sugar, and if it's as unhealthy as some claim. We also break down the glucose monitor trend. More and more people without diabetes are tracking their blood sugar—but is it helpful or just another wellness obsession? Plus, could ultra-processed food (UPF) companies be sued like Big Tobacco? Legal experts are investigating whether food manufacturers knowingly made their products addictive. And finally, a shocking study found microplastics in human brains. Should we be worried, or is this just another scary headline? Christina Dorr Drake is the CEO and co-founder of Willa's Organic Oat Milk, which is leading meaningful change—nutritiously, deliciously, and for the good of the planet. A seasoned marketing strategist, Christina left her career to join forces with her sister Elena and husband Russell, inspired by their grandmother Willa's original oat milk recipe, crafted with real, whole-food ingredients. Willa's is the only oat milk made with organic ingredients and the whole oat—never just oat sugar. That makes it richer, lower in sugar, and higher in protein and fiber. No part of the oat is wasted, making Willa's a food waste and climate change fighting champion. Christina's journey as a breast cancer survivor reinforced Willa's commitment to wholesome, organic ingredients. During her treatment, she ate mostly plant-based and exercised regularly. In 2020, she was declared cancer-free, bringing renewed purpose to Willa's aim to have a net positive impact on the health of people and the planet. Starbucks has dropped its surcharge for plant-based milks, a surcharge that was as high as 70 to 80 cents per drink. So, now, those who love soy, oat, almond and coconut milk are treated as equal citizens at Starbucks in US and Canadian stores. FINALLY! This is a monumental victory for the vegan movement! So, UnchainedTV is honoring two organizations that went all out in the battle to end this unfair penalty: PETA and Switch4Good. We talk to S4G's Executive Director, Dotsie Bausch who is a vegan Olympic medalist & PETA's Campaigns Manager Amber Canavan about the impact on animals, human health, climate change and OTHER coffee shops and outlets that still charge extra. In this episode, I'm talking about why soy milk isn't all that it's promoted to be. In the USA, 94% of soybeans grown are genetically modified. The reason for this is so that glyphosate can be sprayed on the field and kill everything, but the soybean plants. As soybean production surged, the soy industry looked for new markets to absorb the oversupply. Soy milk turned out to be a great way to create demand for soy byproducts, making it a lucrative business opportunity for soy producers. A non GMO soybean as eaten heavily throughout Japan does have loads of potential health benefits. However, a soybean is not the same thing as ultra processed soy milk consumed in the United States.
