This episode includes a dog, a cat who runs up a tree and gets stuck, an electrical cord, and a leadership lesson. There's a backyard rescue mission, a personal realization and a few more interesting plot twists. But the real story? It's not about the cat. It's about what happens inside a people-pleaser's mind when something goes wrong, and the urge to fix, help, and over-function takes over. Jenny explores the discomfort of stepping back, resisting the urge to over-help, and learning to trust that other people are capable—even when it's hard to watch. Listener Reflection: Have you ever helped without being asked? What would it have looked like to step back with compassion instead? He previously co-founded and sold Gymhopper, and was the CEO of Rentouch, which he later also sold. He holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of St Gallen. On our 500th episode, hosts Silvan and Merle looked back on 9 years of Swisspreneur history. They started off by recalling the founding of Swisspreneur by serial entrepreneurs Alain Chuard and Christian Hirsig in 2016: after selling his company, Wildfire, to Google, Alain felt the need to give back to the Swiss startup ecosystem and encourage Swiss people to pursue entrepreneurial careers, so together with Chris he conducted a series of video interviews with some of the major Swiss startup founders at the time — and so Swisspreneur was born!In 2018, Christian asked Silvan to replace him as the host of Swisspreneur. Though he was initially daunted by the task, Silvan said yes, and together with Alain decided to switch the podcast to audio-only format, to make the best out of the budget available. From there the core team was formed organically: Dominique, our head of community, had already worked for Swisspreneur even before Silvan; Lars, head of marketing, was Silvan's roommate at the time; and Cecília and Björn had previously worked with Silvan at Gymhopper. In 2018 was also the year when Silvan organized the first founders dinner. He noticed that the ecosystem was growing, but that people rarely spoke to each other, except at events — so he decided to invite roughly 15 startup founders to host a small dinner, and the evening was so successful that the guests asked him when the next dinner would take place. Swisspreneur has since hosted countless of these dinners, and nowadays hosts 3 additional Scaleup Events per year: the Scaleup Slopes, in Laax, the Scaleup Cruise in Lausanne, and the Scaleup Cruise in Zurich. Swisspreneur also has a slack community of founders and investors with over 700 members. In 2021, on a sunny rooftop in Lisbon, the team first discussed the idea of a Swisspreneur syndicate. The project was immediately successful, and nowadays the syndicate team has 5 members, its portfolio counts almost 40 investments, and its investor base is one of the largest in Switzerland. It relies on Leva as a trusted partner. Last but not least: Swisspreneur published a book in 2025! "Swiss Startups" is a compact view of some of the most amazing startup journeys in Switzerland, from scrappy beginnings to world domination. It was written by Silvan and our content creator Helena. As for the future, we have many ideas jumping around in our heads. Episode Summary In this episode of the Canadian Immigration Podcast, host Mark Holthe and co-host Alicia Backman-Beharry unpack one of the most overlooked but impactful aspects of Express Entry: language testing. As one of the few areas where applicants can directly influence their CRS score, the language test often becomes the make-or-break factor in receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Mark and Alicia take a deep dive into why language tests matter more than ever, how to choose the right test, and what pitfalls to avoid when entering your results into your Express Entry profile. They also examine the crucial role French proficiency now plays in Express Entry scoring, especially in the context of category-based draws and the federal government's push for Francophone immigration. Whether you're building your Express Entry profile or trying to increase your CRS score, this episode offers a detailed, practical guide to getting it right—before you risk a refusal or misrepresentation allegation. Key Topics Discussed The Power of Language Tests in Express Entry Why language test scores are one of the most controllable and impactful factors in your CRS score. How they affect eligibility under CEC, FSW, and category-based draws. Examples of missed opportunities due to expired or invalid test results. Approved Tests and Common Pitfalls A breakdown of approved English and French tests: CELPIP, IELTS (General), PTE Core, TEF, and TCF. Key differences between test formats and how they affect your performance. Why using the wrong version (e.g., IELTS Academic) can invalidate your score. Test Validity and Expiry Rules How long your test results are valid (and what date counts). What happens if your results expire between your ITA and eAPR. When to retake the test to avoid losing points—or your application. CRS Boosting Strategies The significance of CLB 7 and CLB 9: minimum thresholds vs. competitive scoring. The points advantage of adding French as a second language (up to 74 extra points). How dual-language applicants can outperform others in a tight draw environment. Data Entry and Misrepresentation Risks How to correctly input test codes, registration numbers, and scores in your profile. The hidden dangers of typing errors and mismatched documentation. What to do if your test expires mid-application. Retesting and Test Selection Strategy Why retaking a test can make a meaningful difference. Choosing between CELPIP, IELTS, and PTE based on format, availability, and your strengths. How to leverage test prep and targeted coaching to improve scores. Key Takeaways Language tests are one of the best ways to increase your CRS score quickly and legally. Accuracy matters: a small data entry error can cost you your ITA—or worse. CLB 9 opens the door to significant bonus points through skill transferability. French proficiency is now a game-changer under category-based draws. Retesting and preparation are strategic tools, not just last-ditch efforts. Quotes from the Episode Mark Holthe: "If there's one part of your Express Entry profile that you can control—and improve—it's your language test score." Alicia Backman-Beharry: "People miss out on invitations every week because of expired scores or invalid test versions. Don't let that be you." Deu positivo. Uma linha forte, outra mais fraca. Lucas mandou a foto pra mãe, sem entender nada. “O que é isso aqui, mãe?” A resposta veio com um susto. E com um começo.No posto de saúde, foi acolhido. O médico o tratou com respeito desde o primeiro dia. Explicou todas as mudanças que aconteceriam no corpo. Nunca o desrespeitou.

In this solo episode, Jenny Mitchell takes listeners deep into one of the most critical skills every leader must master: the ability to prioritize with clarity and conviction. Drawing inspiration from Gary Keller's book The One Thing, Jenny explores how simplification is not a sign of weakness, but a strategic power move. She shares personal stories — like the shift from pedaling faster to pedaling smarter — and explains how true leadership begins when we train our attention on high-value tasks, streamline operations, and boldly say no to what no longer serves our purpose. Jenny also breaks down the common growth cycle leaders face: Grow → Plateau → Streamline → Reflect → Grow Again, emphasizing the need to pause and assess before scaling. Key Takeaways: Focus on what matters most – Not everything is equal; prioritize high-impact tasks. Simplify and streamline – Reduce complexity to boost efficiency and clarity. Invest energy strategically – Choose where to focus your time and attention. Let go to grow – Release what no longer serves you to make space for progress. Stay adaptable and well – Embrace change and support productivity with habits like exercise and visualization. Elaine chats with co-founder of F-Bomb Theatre co Rachel O'Regan about their latest project Monumental which is a walking tour of the imagined statues of five women from history and their connection to Edinburgh. We also chat with two of the writers Hannah Low, Emery Schaffer and the director Emily Ingram. F-Bomb are working with Edinburgh 900 celebrations to brig Monumental to the audiences. In a city that has more statues to animals than to women join these incredible writers as they celebrate these inspirational women. On from the 10th – 17th May 2025 TICKET LINK HERE MONUMENTAL Edinburgh has nearly 200 monuments and statues dotted around the city, showcasing key historical figures in the city's history - but where are all the women? Part of the Edinburgh 900 celebrations, Monumental is a new extraordinary theatrical walking tour that showcases the real ‘herstory' of Edinburgh. Produced by multi-award-winning Edinburgh-based feminist theatre company F-Bomb Theatre, the experience will take audiences around the city to explore the lives of five women who deeply impacted, lived, and worked in Edinburgh. The project was conceived by playwright and producer Rachel O'Regan after reading Sara Sheridan's book Where Are The Women?; O'Regan learned that the city has more statues of animals than of named women, and began asking herself: ‘Where are the monuments to our real-life heroines?'. Taking on historical figures in the show range from Clara Marguerite Christian, the first black woman to study at the University of Edinburgh, to Scotland's youngest suffragette, Bessie Watson. Their stories will be interpreted by five early-career female playwrights based in Edinburgh, including Rachel O'Regan, playwright, dramaturg, and producer, Hannah Low, Jaïrus Obayomi, Kirin Saeed and Emery Schaffer. A brave recentring of women across time, Monumental highlights not only the accomplishments of women in Edinburgh over the past 900 years - but also gives a new platform to the emerging talent of the future. Monumental will take place throughout May 2025 across the City of Edinburgh as part of the Edinburgh 900 celebrations commissioned by Edinburgh City Council. This Uncut episode explores a powerful shift in leadership: letting others own their experiences. Building on last week's chat with Nate and inspired by Mel Robbins' Let Them, we unpack how women leaders overstep in the name of being helpful, offering unsolicited help that undermines others' confidence. Nate's insight around the importance of feeling valuable, capable, and responsible reframes how we support others without taking over. We dig into the importance of owning your own behaviour rather than trying to control others'. Simple language shifts—like saying “I want you to…” instead of “I need you to…”—create trust. This episode is a call to lead with self-responsibility, clarity, and compassion in today's evolving leadership landscape.
