A photograph is a way to feel the emotion and context of that exact moment. While not photography in the modern sense, ancient Egyptians and Greeks experimented with camera obscura. This early technique projected inverted images through a pinhole onto surfaces. Modern photography was created by two Frenchmen in 1837. Then the French government acquired the patent for the innovation and handed it to the world as a free gift with no copyright. Over 40 years later, in 1884,  George Eastman of Rochester, New York perfected the french photography method. Eastmann was an innovator and entrepreneur who founded the Eastman Kodak Company. Despite the pivot to digital technology, film remains a major component of Kodak's business. His outsized "Schnozz" matched the outsized personality from the 1920s through the 1970s. Even today, when his name and face are no longer common currency, his catchphrases and songs have endured. My discussion with Manfred may not be as alluring or sexy with Firefighters but there is no denying how Thermal Imaging Technology is probably one of the most under trained areas within the fire service. A lack of proper thermal imaging training in fire departments can lead to firefighters misinterpreting images, over-relying on the technology, and potentially increasing the risk of injury or death. Many departments don't provide enough training, and even when training is offered, it often lacks live fire scenarios and fails to address the limitations and inaccuracies of thermal imagers. My hope is the listeners can gain a bit of knowledge towards TIC's, take it back and start having conversations with their respective crews or department.

Jason Jessup, CEO and Director of Magna Mining (TSX.V: NICU) (OTCQX: MGMNF), joins me for a review of H2 2025 guidance and an operations update at their producing McCreedy West copper mine in Sudbury, Canada.  We also review the ongoing exploration and development work at the Levack Mine, working towards and updated resource estimate in Q3 and mine restart plan by year-end for potential production in 2026. We also review the news out today about the closing of the acquisition of a package of development and exploration projects from NorthX Nickel Corp.   We kick off the conversation with a review of production and cost guidance for the second half of 2025 a their McCreedy West Mine.   Highlights (in USD unless otherwise stated):   Quarterly ore sales from the 700 Copper Zone are expected to be between 80,000 and 92,000 tons in the second half of 2025. Contained copper equivalent grade expected to be between 2.9% to 3.4% in Q3 2025, and 3.8% to 4.4% in Q4 2025. Cash costs (per copper equivalent pound) expected to be $3.85 to $4.40 in Q3 2025, reducing to $3.11 to $3.66 in Q4 2025. AISC (per copper equivalent pound) expected to be $4.95 to $5.49 in Q3 2025 and $3.85 to $4.47 in Q4 2025.   Jason discusses the primary focus at McCreedy West for this year is really getting all the development work completed to be able to really ramp up production in a big way in 2026.  The company has invested capital into underground equipment and additional development, hired additional people to support a 24-7 operation at the mine, and they are seeing the benefits of this plan materialize. The mine plan for this year is evolving, where a 3rd party contractor has been brought in to get in front of 6+ months of extra underground development, with the plan to get access to mining areas that have better grades like the area to the west of the 700 Copper Zone.  Jason explains that they expect all-in sustaining costs to decrease in 2026 after concluding their accelerated capital development program and achieve our optimization goals.   There will still be ore processed each quarter, but the operations teams wants to get enough stopes opened up through development for the balance of this year to have options in accessing mineralization from different parts of the mine.   We also reviewed how in addition to the high-grade copper area of the mine in the 700 Copper Zone, that there is the Intermain Nickel Zone and a Precious Metals Zone, with platinum, palladium, and gold that can be accessed down the road at the right metals prices and margins.   Next we transitioned over to all the exploration focus at the past-producing Levack mine and Jason outlines the Company strategy to keep aggressively drilling and delineating mineralization with a targeted Resource Estimate for Q3, while also continuing with engineering work to then put out a Mine Restart Plan by year end or the beginning of next year. This is all leading towards the pathway for bringing the Levack Mine back into production in 2026.   Additionally, the team is still advancing similar derisking and development work at their Crean Hill Project where, depending on financial market conditions, it could be on a dual track for production in late 2026 or early 2027.    Wrapping up we reviewed a few of the exploration and development properties included in their acquisition which closed today with portfolio of properties located in the Sudbury Basin from NorthX Nickel Corp. (CSE: NIX). The NorthX properties being acquired represent 304 km2 of mineral claims, leases and patents in the Sudbury area. The acquisition of the NorthX property portfolio brings Magna's aggregate holdings in the Sudbury area to 584 km2. Several properties host known exploration targets within Sudbury Breccia units in the footwall of the Sudbury Igneous Complex (SIC), including the Wisner, Blezard, Frost Lake and Creighton South properties. The Wisner property historically produced 295,000 tonnes grading 0.9% Cu and 4.1 g/t Pt + Pd + Au from the surface Broken Hammer Zone (Technical Report on Wallbridge's Sudbury Area Properties, Ontario (Canada), 2017). (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Islamic legal system discourages Christian conversion in Brunei, Iran & Yemen Christians face significant persecution in countries that follow Sharia law like Brunei, Iran, and Yemen.  The Islamic legal system is used to ban people from converting out of Islam to another religion.  International Christian Concern notes, “The abuse inflicted upon the Christians of these nations is an open secret.  … Forcing Christians into prisons — often under the guise of slanderous accusations, sexually assaulting Christian women, and forcing Christ followers into demeaning work has become commonplace in far too many nations.” Muslims experienced highest growth rate among religions Pew Research released a report on the growth of religious groups in the world between 2010 and 2020. All religious groups except Buddhists increased numerically during the time frame. Muslims grew the most, followed by the religiously unaffiliated. Christians increased by about five percent from 2.1 billion to 2.3 billion people.  As a share of the global population, only Muslims and the religiously unaffiliated experienced growth. Christians and Buddhists decreased as a share of the global population while Hindus, Jews, and other religions held steady. Muslims have a notably higher fertility rate than other religious groups around the world. Supreme Court affirmed right of Catholic group to tax exemption In the United States, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of a Catholic nonprofit last Thursday. The state of Wisconsin had denied a tax exemption for the Catholic Charities Bureau in 2016. The case went before the state Supreme Court which ruled against the nonprofit.  Nick Reaves, an attorney at Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, commented on the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling. He said, “When every justice agrees and says ‘Yes, this is foundational to our understanding of religious freedom, that you can't discriminate among religions,' that's really exciting for us.” RFK Jr. replaced entire Advisory Committee on Immunization The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is replacing the 17 members of the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices. The committee makes vaccine recommendations to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Biden administration had appointed all 17 members. Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. stated, “A clean sweep is necessary to reestablish public confidence in vaccine science. ACIP's new members will prioritize public health and evidence-based medicine. The Committee will no longer function as a rubber stamp for industry profit-taking agendas.” The younger the kids of divorce, the worse the trauma The National Bureau of Economic Research released a report last month about the effects of divorce on children. The study noted that nearly a third of American children experience parental divorce before adulthood. Children had more negative outcomes the younger they were when the divorce occurred.  Researchers wrote, “We find that parental divorce reduces children's adult earnings and college residence while increasing incarceration, mortality, and teen births.” Speaking of husband and wife, in Matthew 19:6, Jesus said, “So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate.” Trump: We “will always defend right of every American to worship God freely” The White House released a presidential message on Pentecost Sunday this week. The message from President Donald Trump said, “Today, I join in prayer with Christians joyfully celebrating the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost—one of the most sacred events of the Christian faith. We commemorate the fulfillment of Jesus Christ's earthly mission and the birth of His holy and living Church. "As we celebrate this glorious feast day, we also honor all Christians who, like the Apostles, have willingly endured persecution because of their faith.  My Administration will always defend the right of every American to worship God freely and without fear.” On the day of Pentecost, the Apostle Peter said,  “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38) Lesson from The American Miracle movie: “God governs in the affairs of men” If you have not yet seen The American Miracle, the new docudrama about God's providential hand in America's founding, then get tickets to see it tonight.  And bring a bunch of your friends with you. It's the last day it will be in the theaters. Actress Lauren Lael portrayed the daughter of a slave named Elizabeth “Mumbet” Freeman who was portrayed by Christian singer Nicole C. Mullen. Remarkably, the slave won her freedom in a Massachusetts court on August 22, 1781.  This is what Lauren Lael said. LAEL: “I think that one of the biggest Biblical themes that The American Miracle embodies is, I think, a spirit of integrity and a message of hope and a message also of connectedness, that really exalts God. This is such a pivotal time that this type of message needs to come out.” People who have seen the film have been reminded afresh of God's intervention in American history. Guys Questions Hey guys, I really love your show. My question is about food safe finishes. I do a lot of CNC carving and one of my favorite is deviled egg trays. The first couple I made for my wife I just finished with some butcher block oil, the composition of an egg Has something  in it I think and it quickly turned the reliefs in the wood surface black. I talked to my sister-in-law who's a chemical engineer and she told me that polyurethane once it's cured would be fine for this. I have done a few with this and it seems to be holding up OK but I am curious what your guys thoughts are  on the long-term effect of this. Most of my egg trays are made out of a butcher block style material that has lots of maple cherry ash a little bit of oak and various leftovers. Unfortunately, I can't use walnut in my wood shop due to my wife's tree nut allergy again guys. I really appreciate your podcast and look forward to listening to it. Albert Thanks for the great podcast, I learn something from every episode.  I recently made a few band saw boxes for Christmas gifts.  They are a good way to use up some offcut lumber and the family seems to appreciate something handmade.   The 3 drawer box with a curved top and side (pictures attached) caused me a bit of trouble.   Joni had preciously asked for a sideboard style cabinet to place between out living and dinning room areas.  After 2-3 month we still hadn't found a design she liked....until she saw the curved band saw box.  I quote "I love that design and want one like that only much bigger"   My question is what suggestions do you have for making the curved top and sides,  I am thinking the sides could be made using walnut plywood by cutting kerfs and bending the plywood over a frame but I am open to other ideas.   The top has me stumped, I have made segmented arches for a table support  but they were only 4" wide and I cut the arch on a band saw.  That would not work for a wide dresser top. Approximate dimensions would be 30" -35" wide and 45- 55" tall and 20-22" deep Thanks in advance for you help DH I realize this isn't a fine precision woodworking question, but I figure you guys have probably dealt with manhandling sheets of plywood. We have about 140 sheets of plywood that we need to put down on a floor. The median age of the guys doing this is somewhere between 65 and 70. Any suggestions for how to safely handle this many sheets of plywood to minimize strains and injuries ? Thanks,  Mark Huys Questions Good Morning, I appreciate the podcast as I continue to learn its been a great resource, thank you! Quick background. I grew up watching PBS's Norm Abram and This Old House but never had much opportunity to learn wood working. As an adult I started learning both construction building and cabinet/furniture making helping others, reading and youtube etc. Starting in basement workshops with mostly benchtop tools. ~15 years into the journey I am starting to get a decent foundation. Recently I built a house with a planned garage workshop and have started outfitting it. Bones are there, lots of organization needed but I have now have 3hp grizzly table saw, bosch miter saw with large counter style station, 8" Grizzly jointer, 24" Grizzly Drum Sander, Grizzly Bandsaw and dust collector Planer still needs upgrading, have a Ridgid 13" but watching for a used 20" helical head. I have been busy chasing used deals! Also recently setup a 10'x10' popup tent with furnace filter setup tied into 12" exhaust fan as a spray booth, works great! Spraying with a Fuji mini mite 5 stage and PPS cup system.  Space is 32'x32' when cars are out with 12' ceiling, in floor heat. Rural northern New York. Not a Rockler or similar store within a days drive but we have ample local sawmills to find solid wood if your willing to mill it and access to cabinet grade plywood delivered from suppliers. With this shop setup I am now building cabinets, furniture, trim, doors etc for our house. Starting in some areas I don't mind making some mistakes. Two areas that I am struggling to figure out: Finishes-your recent episode had some decent comments but I would love a thorough discussion on when you would choose a certain finish over another. In particular thinking of kitchen cabinets, vanities, built in's, kitchen table. High traffic areas. I have played around with conversion varnish from Woodwright. Seems like very durable stuff and I don't mind cleaning up with solvent but when is that necessary vs going with an easier to work with finish such as Sherwin Williams Emerald? Or middle ground lacquer??I do have Bob Flexners book but would love to hear your experiences/ opinions? If I do use conversion varnish how do you handle any touch ups? I have quite a lot of experience with airless on sheetrock so its not a huge jump but any suggestions on HVLP setups, when to use which tips etc. would be helpful. *Doors- I appreciated the conversation on doors recently. I have several very custom interior and exterior doors I want to tackle. I agree with your comments on buying pre hung for standard doors but between custom nature of what we want and because I just want to do it I am going to try to build my own. I want to buy the festool domino machines in time anyhow and I think that would be a good way to build the doors. I would enjoy hearing a conversation on specifics on how you would choose to build interior vs exterior doors, rail and style material vs. panel material vs jamb material. Is there a way to insulate the exterior door? Finishes? If you had the shop described above and both domino size machines what would you do? Thank you! Matt Wendig This one is a wood selection question. I am looking for a wood that has both good elasticity and shock resistance. I am building a Japanese makiwara board, which is a training tool that provides progressive resistance to striking force by the martial artist. The training board is about 55" tall, 5" wide and is tapered - so thick at the base and gradually tapers to the top. This allows for "flex" when the board is struck. In Japan - Japanese beech is typically used, but not readily available near me. I am thinking along the lines of Ash or Elm for my build. I appreciate your thoughts. Crafted Carpentry Tampa Hello gentlemen and thank you for the wonderful podcast. I live in the niagara region in Ontario Canada and for the last while I've been looking at upgrading my current table saw (Ridgid R4520) to something that runs on 220v for more power  or possibly replacing it all together with a bandsaw.  I have an oversized single car garage that houses my furnace, hot water tank, ATV, motorcycle, mechanical shop and woodshop so space is at a premium and that is the motivation to possibly do away with a table saw all together. I have a router table, mitre saw and track saw so I feel all the functions I may lose not having a table saw will still be covered by these tools plus I have a Ridgid job site table saw (R4518ns) I use for the odd job I do off site. I currently have an older 110v 14" king bandsaw that I find severely underpowered and that I want to replace anyways, so with the sale of my current bandsaw and table saw plus my current budget and with some convincing of my wife I'm thinking I'll have roughly $3000-3300CAD to buy either one bandsaw or have to use those fund to buy both a bandsaw and table saw. I am 6'4" and if my memory serves me correctly guy has said Laguna bandsaw tables are closer to the ground and I've quickly looked at some king bandsaw and craftex bandsaws but I'm not sold on them either. So my question question to you guys is, what would you do? Use all the funds on a bandsaw and if so which one and what type of blades should I purchase with it? Or split up the funds to purchase 2 machines and again which ones? And do you go new or used in both of those situations?
