Today's Show we have our last two guests for spooky season interviews. Up first is a return guest to the Left of Str8 Show, Michael Varrati, who is widely known in the horror genre, especially the lgbtq horror genre. I talked to Michael many years ago where we talked about his origin in the genre and having grown up near where I am living here in NE Ohio. Michael also had the honor of being asked to his alma mater near me here at Kent State to give the commencement address for the lgbtq graduates this year. Whether Michael is writing, directing, producing, podcasting or just an invitee of fun events, he does them all fantastically. He not only wrote the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards program for the second year this past May, but also directed it for the first time as well. Look for Michael and projects by his June Gloom productions and listen to his latest podcast “Midnight Mass.” You should also look for past episodes of “Dead For Filth,” you can thank me later. Well we've accidentally done it again; we've themed the week. Somehow we've all ended up recommending podcasts with super bleak titles (but not all bleak content!). Liz recommends Aussie comedy podcast Time to Die, Zane recommends queer film deep dive podcast Dead for Filth, and Nick explores the end of the world with, well, The End of The World with Josh Clark. Then it's on to the reviews of last week's podcasts.Liz Recommends -Time To Diehttps://www.planetbroadcasting.com/our-shows/time-to-die/"Time To Die is the unfunniest podcast you’ll ever subscribe to. But that’s kind of the point. Each episode we match up to two brilliant comedians and ask them to use their comedy powers to write three minutes of the worst stand up they can imagine. Then our guests swap their scripts and go out and present the stand up as if they wrote it themselves… at a real comedy club. The winner is the comic who commits to the bit and gets the most laughs!"HOSTS:BEN RUSSELLBen Russell is a graduate of The Second City Chicago and iO Chicago. He has appeared in True Story with Hamish and Andy, SBS’ The Feed, The Project on 10, Tonightly, The Letdown and The Aaron Chen Tonight Show on ABC. You can hear Ben on podcasts Finding Drago (ABC) and the twisted sketch show The Grub with Greg Larsen and Anne Edmonds.TOM WHITTYTom Whitty is an award-winning journalist, TV producer and musician. He’s the executive producer of Australia Talks for the ABC, the former managing editor of The Project for Network Ten, and the creator of Time To Die. He’s also obsessed with stand-up comedy.https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/time-to-die/id1504187933For Both: At time of airing, there are only three eps thanks to COVID19 hitting just as they launched but pick any episode that appeals.Nick Recommends - The End of the World with Josh ClarkWe humans could have a bright future ahead of us that lasts billions of years. But we have to survive the next 200 years first. Join Josh Clark of Stuff You Should Know for a 10-episode deep dive that explores the future of humanity and finds dangers we have never encountered before lurking just ahead. And if we humans are alone in the universe, if we don't survive intelligent life dies out with us too.https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-end-of-the-world-with-josh-clark/id1437682381Zane Recommends - Dead for FilthZane loves movies, but hesitates to listen to many film podcasts, let alone recommend them, but this listener submission is one of the exceptions. This week we cover the red-headed stepchild of the Friday the 13th series. Is "A New Beginning" due for a Halloween III type of reconsideration and celebration or is Roy a misstep that cut the sails out from the once proud franchise? We're joined by screenwriter and host of the Dead For Filth podcast Michael Varrati for an in-depth look at the film, and why it's much better than most remember it for, despite some glaring flaws. After 23 years of driving, the boys pick up Dead For Filth's multi-hyphenate Michael Varrati en route to a charming motel run by Anthony Perkins' Norman Bates. The trio discuss the film's categorization as a long in-development sequel, a slasher released during the height of the 80s craze and a cash grab.Along the way they suggest that Meg Tilly's tough, but thankless "tofu" role as Mary is a mirror image of Norman and propose that Psycho 2 succeeds where Halloween (2018) fails by truly investigating grief and trauma.Come for the ridiculous number of sidebar references/jokes about Psycho 3 and stay for the game, which asks Michael and Trace to cast a sequel to Gus Van Sant's shot-for-shot remake. Who does Trace name drop that irks Joe so much that Trace is banished to the corner? You'll have to listen to find out! Questions? Comments? Snark? Thank Jason It’s The Final Friday! We are back at once again with our special guest, Dead For Filth host & Hollywood screenwriter Michael Varrati! Together, we tackle some huge, burning questions: What breakfast pastry was Freddy Kruger’s favorite? What’s the real estate game like in a “Murder Town” like Crystal Lake? How would you explain the plot of Psycho to a 7-year-old kid? Is Steven supposed to be the town “bad boy” just because he lettered in getting girls pregnant? Plus, we get pitched a whole new version of CSI: Crystal Lake and a new Choose Your Own Death-venture - and you’ve got a finger-snapping good time! Never fear - new episodes of Kill By Kill are made available every other Friday! Have something to say? Reach out on Twitter @killbykillpod or email us: killbykillpod@gmail.com.
