This week is a mini-episode where we look back at a Friday night showdown last year on 9-28-2024 on our TikTok and IG. between albums 93 'Till Infinity VS. Bizarre Ride 2: The Pharcyde. The members of Bring The Noise Podcast vote themselves and reveal who the fans had picked as well.
Following two highly acclaimed albums, group EPMD continued their success with their 3rd LP titled Business As Usual, released in 1990. This album took what they had done in the past and amplified it with a grittier sound and more rugged feel that the group became known for. Erick Sermon and Parish Smith are at their peak lyrically, while DJ Scratch provides arguably the best performance from a DJ on a record. It's also noteable for being the first time the world would hear Redman on a wax.https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=ZT-8uvpuwTPMEg&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.facebook.com/share/16LtzeTMz9/?mibextid=wwXIfr

A Pioneer in midwest hip-hop, MC Breed and The DFC released their debut self titled album in 1991. With the song Aint No Future In Yo Frontin putting Breed and hometown Flint, Michigan on the map, it led to a rather successful career for him but it all started with this solid debut. https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=ZT-8tOQNPSJHCs&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.facebook.com/share/1ACZP6hgvZ/?mibextid=wwXIfr
Pioneers in southern hip-hop, rappers Pimp C and Bun B burst onto the scene under the name U.G.K., releasing their debut album Too Hard To Swallow in 1992. The laid back pimp style would end up being a staple, not only for U.G.K., but for southern hip-hop in general and cement their spot as one of the most influential groups. https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=ZT-8tCuYhoSe0g&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.facebook.com/share/19QDsWgWRV/?mibextid=wwXIfr
In 1994, some of the most classic hip-hop albums were released, and tucked in with all of them was todays topic - the debut LP from rapper O.C. titled Word...Life. This Brooklyn artist shined on this album attacking phoney rappers. While Organized Konfusion, Lord Finesse and DJ Ogee all chipped in beats, production was primarily handled by Buck Wild making this album an underrated classic. https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8sdHdPpF1os&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa/profilecard/?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl https://www.facebook.com/share/1B41APt9E1/?mibextid=wwXIfr
One of the biggest “what ifs” in hip-hop is undoubtedly the N.W.A. affiliate The D.O.C. After the release of his debut album No One Can Do It Better, he was in a car crash severely damaging his throat and vocal cords. Though we only got one true album from The D.O.C., it is a 1989 classic. However, with Dr. Dre's production highly elevated after Straight Out Of Compton, and D.O.C. showcasing his lyrical abilities, it's not only a classic for 1989 but has since went down as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8sRpXJoycb0&_r=1 https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa/profilecard/?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl https://www.facebook.com/share/14r9wowAjp/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Welcome to the Left of Str8 Podcasts: This is our “Left of Str8 Show” Interview Series, where we tell the stories of our amazing LGBTQ Community and fantastic Straight Ally's. It's Day Two for our Premiere Week of Season 7. Today is a Salute to the Movies with two brand new releases coming out. I was excited to interview one of my favorite queer Actors, Guillermo Diaz joining me in studio with equally exciting and queer Director Todd Verow. Their new film collaboration is “You Can't Stay Here,” and is a wonderful psychological thriller about a photographer ‘cruising' in Central Park, NY, and happens upon a murder. I'm on my 3rd viewing of this movie and it hits in a different way each time. Now playing in New York City and LA, look for a wide release soon, but you just may find Guillermo and Todd at a screening near you, keep your eyes peeled. Summary In this conversation, Guillermo Diaz and Todd Verow discuss their collaboration on the film 'You Can't Stay Here.' They talk about their backgrounds in acting and filmmaking, the creative process behind the film, and the challenges and joys of working in the industry. The conversation touches on their personal experiences as LGBTQ+ individuals and the importance of representation in the entertainment industry. Overall, the conversation provides insights into the making of the film and the experiences of the actors and director involved. The conversation covers the challenges of shooting scenes, the title of the film, film premieres, promotion and interacting with fans, future projects, and concludes with a set of five questions. Takeaways Shooting scenes can be challenging, especially when there are time constraints and external factors like busy locations. The title 'You Can't Stay Here' reflects the main character's struggle to find a place where he belongs. Premiering a film in different locations allows for different reactions and experiences. Promotion can be exciting, but many actors prefer the process of shooting and being on set. The actors have future projects in the works and hope to collaborate again in the future.
I have been a fan of Guy Pearce since “Priscilla Queen of the Desert,” and I jumped at the opportunity to speak with the Director of the new psychological horror film, “Sunrise,” Andrew Baird. I was also able to talk to two of the films stars, Alex Pettyfer, who I have loved since his movie, “I Am Number Four,” and Kurt Yeager, who has been on some of my favorite television series. (unfortunately Guy was unavailable, but I'll get you my pretty sometime soon.) Summary In this conversation, I talk with the Director and two Actors from the new film, “Sunrise.” It's a psychological horror take on the Vampyre mythology. Set in the Pacific Northwest but filmed in Northern Ireland, the landscapes and cinematography are out of this world. Director Andrew Baird has done world building with his Sci Fi Fantasy film “Zone 414,” and done intense character development with actor turned singer, turned actor again, Machine Gun Kelly. Andrew is a master storyteller and knows how to control a set. Alex Pettyfer was not going to make any typical Vampire movie, he wanted to bring the deep brooding characterizations and even cut most of his lines written for the part. Kurt Yeager takes the films theme of fear to heart, playing the town sheriff that is caught between opposing forces. You are going to enjoy this movie opening in theatres on January 19 and available to stream as well.
