This episode is a fun twist. Alyssa Dineen of Style My Profile and Jennie Young of Burned Haystack Dating Method are back, but this time they're interviewing me. I'm in the hot seat as we dive into how their work completely shifted my experience re-entering the dating world, what I did differently this time, and how I met my partner, Ethan. I was done with dating. D.O.N.E. I was perfectly content on my own, independent and fulfilled. But I'm also human. I wanted love, connection, and partnership. What I wasn't willing to do was settle for anything less than something truly extraordinary. This conversation is a behind-the-scenes look at what changed and what becomes possible when you lead with intention, use the right tools, and hold out for the real thing. Here's what else we discuss in this episode: Why I felt stuck in a dating loop for eight years and what finally shifted after interviewing and then working with Alyssa and Jennie (9:10) How intentional profile choices and using the Burned Haystack Method changed everything on the apps (11:51) Matching with my “needle”: Ethan's profile stood out with pink shorts, shared values, and genuine communication. And let's not forget those EYES!! (30:23) What it's been like to break all the so-called rules and build something secure, drama-free, and full of intention after years of doing the work (52:07) Learn more about Alyssa Dineen: With over 25 years of experience as a fashion editor, stylist, and art director, Alyssa established herself as a seasoned leader in the New York fashion world. In the past decade, Alyssa has also emerged as a pioneering figure in the online dating space. Her innovative approach combines her expertise in styling with her insights into dating, guiding clients on everything from personal presentation to effective communication with potential partners. As an acclaimed dating expert, Alyssa has been featured in The New York Times, Today Show, Goop, and Oprah Daily. She is also the author of The Art of Online Dating published by Harper Collins in 2021, which offers valuable strategies for success in online dating. You can find more information about Alyssa and Style My Profile's services at stylemyprofilenyc.com. Learn more about Jennie Young: Jennie Young is the creator of Burned Haystack Dating Method, a dating method grounded in applied rhetoric and feminist praxis. It is designed to combat many of the challenges of dating in a market that is too frequently mediated by misogynistic and patriarchal structures. She holds a Ph.D. in rhetoric and discourse studies from Case Western Reserve University and a satire writing certificate from Second City Chicago. LOL-eros! This is a very special episode of Latinos Out Loud, recorded at WBCR, the CUNY Brooklyn College radio station, and it was produced by some of the students of @RachelLaLoca's Advanced Radio and Podcasting class! Shout out to them (they just got closer to getting an A in the class LOL)! On this episode, Rachel connected virtually with Co-creator, Writer, Co-Executive Producer and Co-star of the hit NBC comedy series “Lopez vs. Lopez, Mayan Lopez! The two Latinas chatted about their improv and sketch comedy training, Mayan being an alum of Second City Chicago and Rachel being an alum of UCB NY, and the representation (or lack thereof :/) of Latinas in that field of comedy training, as well as how that training is utilized in Mayan's performances on set. She also shared what it's like to work with her father, the iconic, George Lopez on this, the second season of the HILARIOUS TV show. Rachel was lucky enough to see a live taping of the show while out in LA a few weeks back, and recounts the incredible wit and flawlessness in watching the Lopez Vs. Lopez action LIVE. Mayan is killing it right now, having just served as a guest judge on Rupaul's Drag Race! ABOUT LOPEZ VS LOPEZ Once-estranged father and daughter George and Mayan navigate dysfunction, reconnection, and all the headaches and joy in between as they make up for lost time like only they can. With George back in the picture, he can always be counted on to provide Mayan with some unconventional parenting advice about her son Chance — while saving a few lighthearted barbs for her boyfriend, Quinten, for good measure. Then there's George's ex-wife, Rosie, who hasn't quite forgiven him. In the end, the Lopez clan gets by with a little drama, a lot of love, and a lifetime of laughter. The cast includes George Lopez, Mayan Lopez, Selenis Leyva (former guest of LOL! Glazer's live shows, which consistently sell out, have been praised as "the most promising show in LA" by Rolling Stone and hailed as an "instant classic" by High Times magazine, who also recognized him as one of the "Most Influential People in Cannabis" in 2021. Mike Glazer's portfolio extends to high-profile events like the Outside Lands Festival, SXSW, and the immensely popular BuzzFeed series, High Guys, with over 100 million views. His comedic genius has shone on truTV's Billy on the Street and even at the renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As if his impressive resume wasn't enough, Mike Glazer has shared a smoke session with the legendary Snoop Dogg, has cooked alongside Gordon Ramsay, attended culinary school, worked at Second City in Chicago, PA-ed for the Late Late Show upon arriving to LA, wore the Left Shark Super Bowl costume while being interviewed by John Mayer and clinched a gold medal as a roller hockey goalie with Team USA.Now, he's set to release his debut comedy special Life Rules! Here I am, on my knees, begging you to pour yourself a glass of incredibly dry white wine (or very pale rosé, that's fine too) and come to my conventionally attractive, highly educational show all about pleasure, where crucially you will learn nothing, but for a moment you could forget everything.” John Tothill is an actor and comedian, who is now taking the UK comedy scene by storm having won 2Northdown's New Act Competition in 2022. Ted Waltmire was a librarian, pianist and community musical director until his life completely changed in 2009 when he suffered a stroke and lost the ability to play the piano with his left hand. After many years of rehab therapies his friend Dale Galiniak who worked for him at the library suggested Improv. He had an “aha” moment when he realized that despite his continued physical limitations, he could play improv games. He jumped in with both feet and pursued classes at Second City Chicago and landed in a writing class. When his teacher learned his story he suggested that Ted write his life story, which became a musical directed by Jay Sukow and musical direction by Stephanie McCullough. Stephanie said about Ted, “He is such an impressive person. His musical abilities are outstanding." His story is inspiring to anyone, but especially people who have had similar life changes. We laughed and cried and I know you will love Ted as much as I do. Visit my website where I speak to today's leading innovators of improv. My guests are improvisers and therapists from all over the world who share their stories and offer insight into the unique ways they use improv. margotescott.com/podcast/

Cheryl Sloane was literally raised at Second City Chicago since her mother, Joyce Sloane, was the beloved maternal powerhouse in the origins of The Second City. Joyce Sloane was the woman who found and nurtured such comedy giants as John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Chris Farley, and Bill Murray, She was described as a "den mother" to the actors and staff at this famed improv theatre. If someone needed a doctor, a lawyer, a wedding ring or to be bailed out of jail, Joyce was the person who made it happen. We also explore the last 20 years of Cheryl's life. She opened G-Boutique, an upscale women's shop where women could feel comfortable buying sexy lingerie and quality sex toys. Why lingerie? Well, Joyce Sloane always wore glamorous peignoirs. Cheryl thought everyone should have one. While owning the B-Boutique Cheryl consulted with physicians to explore sexual health and wellness for women. Since the store closed, Cheryl works in marketing and branding for Uberlube -, a silicone lubricant designed to enhance sex that has many uses including hair care. Joyce showed Cheryl to “always find the good in people” and that's how Cheryl has lived her life. The people whose lives she touched love her and by the end of this interview, so did I!

“Your mind sometimes hijacks your emotions to think the worst-case scenario in order to protect yourself. You need to reclaim your mind in order to be in control.” Jay Sukow Jay began teaching for Second City in 2010 and teaches in both the Improv and Conservatory programs. He is also a facilitator with Second City Works, teaching improv to business professionals to drive behavior change. Previously, he was on faculty at The Second City Chicago, iO Chicago, and ComedySportz Chicago. He is the co-host of “Improvcast with Jay and Landon” and currently performs around town with the group Zer0 H0ur with Bill Chott and Jay Sukow, as well as the monthly show Improv Famous. He has over 25 years of experience as a leader. As an Improv leader and coach, Jay speaks about the dynamics of living the future and having a standard that we can never live up to instead of living in the moment and the “now.” A difference in how we look at the world shifts our focus from our failures into the zone of learning and growing. We will always have stressors in our lives, and instead of avoiding them, we need to learn how to deal with them because we all have seasons and ups and downs; just because it happens now doesn't mean that it will be the same forever. However, always having a positive mindset in all situations will lead you to a happy and more content life, both personally and professionally.  Listen to this and so much more in the episode; petermargaritis.com   Learn more about your ad choices.
