Bryan and Dave are joined this week for their episode celebrating Latin American History Month by Dracula enthusiast, Michael Varrati! Long thought of as a lost movie, the fully restored version of Dracula, produced in tandem with Tod Browning's version with Spanish-speaking actors, the movie is practically the same film with some key differences which have, since its restoration in the 90's, caused many people to declare it the better version of Dracula. Is it? Well, it's complicated. We're going to give you all the facts and tell you all about it in this episodio.

Today's Show we have another great Quadruple blast of “5 Questions With…” featuring all 5 of our guests from last week. I love asking my guests 5 random and usually goofy questions to bring out their personalities and as we wrap up spooky season, I love the personalities from these last guests of October. First up are the uber talented couple who do it all, act, sing, write, direct and produce. Emerson Collins and Blake McIver have been regulars on the Left of Str8 Show since we first started back in 2015 and I am honored to call them friends both on and off the air. Next up is the creator of the “Bad Boy” comedy series, Artie O'Daly. Artie is an amazing actor who can be seen guesting on some of my favorite television shows and movies. He has created “Bad Boy” and writes, directs, starts and edits each episode. It has some of the best writing and the cast plays off each other amazingly. You can check the series out on YouTube and Dekkoo. My first spooky season guest playing this week is Michael Varrati, who is an amazing writer, director and producer as well as hosting the “Midnight Mass” podcast. Michael has written and directed the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, written horror and Christmas movies and spoken about horror and lgbtq issues and connectivity eloquently for year. Finally, we have a first timer to the show, Mike Zara, who wrote on one of my favorite television shows, “Major Crimes.” He also has written a terrific cross-genre movie, “Letters to Satan Clause,” what trouble a wrongly placed ‘N' can cause. I am really excited for the company he has started, “Toy Storiez,” which helps toy companies create IP's and Product Placements and combines Mike's love of toys and writing. Be sure to check out my guest's Website at: www.emersoncollins.com www.artieodaly.com and www.toystoriez.com and you can find them on Social Media here: @emersoncollins @blakemciver @artieodaly @michaelvarrati and @zarashots Thank you for listening to the Left of Str8 Radio Network, hosted by Scott Fullerton. We conclude spooky season with the scariest movie of them all: a musical movie based on the song "Monster Mash" starring Candace Cameron, and yes she does "sing" in it. Today's Show we have our last two guests for spooky season interviews. Up first is a return guest to the Left of Str8 Show, Michael Varrati, who is widely known in the horror genre, especially the lgbtq horror genre. I talked to Michael many years ago where we talked about his origin in the genre and having grown up near where I am living here in NE Ohio. Michael also had the honor of being asked to his alma mater near me here at Kent State to give the commencement address for the lgbtq graduates this year. Whether Michael is writing, directing, producing, podcasting or just an invitee of fun events, he does them all fantastically. He not only wrote the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards program for the second year this past May, but also directed it for the first time as well. Look for Michael and projects by his June Gloom productions and listen to his latest podcast “Midnight Mass.” You should also look for past episodes of “Dead For Filth,” you can thank me later. “Dark and Stormy Night” (October 28, 1994) We've talked before how Family Matters has a more liberal take on typical hijinx than most sitcoms, but the show's sixth season Halloween episode went full on Dracula — by which we mean Francis Ford Coppola. It's really ambitious! And Hariette has never looked sexier! And we're very stoked to have Michael Varrati on hand to discuss it because not everyone would be able to spot this darkling little gem hidden in the 1994 TGIF lineup. Listen to Michael's podcast Midnight Mass — and in particular listen to the episode all about Prom Night 2. It's a hoot. Watch Glen's episode of Ninjago: Dragons Rising, now streaming on Netflix! For this week's episode, I couldn't decide if I wanted to run an interview about horror movies, since October's about to begin — or about romantic comedies, in recognition of Billy Eichner's new rom-com Bros. So I decided to run an episode about horror AND romance. It's a revisit of my 2018 interview with Michael Varrati, Hollywood screenwriter responsible for such films as From Hell She Rises, and Seven Dorms of Death … and also A Christmas Reunion and A Christmas in Vermont. Michael's genre-hopping might seem a little weird, but he's not alone in straddling horror and rom-com. We'll have that conversation in a minute. First, in case you haven't heard, I've got a book coming out next year about queer sitcoms! It's called Hi Honey, I'm Homo, and pre-orders are open — head over to gaysitcoms.com to get all the details. Also, big thanks to everyone who supports The Sewers of Paris on Patreon! Thank God that Peaches Christ and Michael Varrati of the Midnight Mass podcast joined us for our third jump into the works of John Waters. Otherwise our conversation would lack a noticeable measure of knowledge, context, insight, wit, and depth. Which is what this film deserves. If you'd like to watch ahead for next week's film, we will be discussing and reviewing Max Ophüls' La Ronde (1950).

Wow! The 25th episode of Bloodhaus! Six whole months! This week the duo does their first double feature: Suspiria (1977) and Suspiria (2018). But first, they talk Jordan Peele's NOPE and sexy, sexy Burt Reynolds. From Wiki: "Suspiria (Latin: [sʊsˈpiːri.a]) is a 1977 Italian supernatural horror film directed by Dario Argento, who co-wrote the screenplay with Daria Nicolodi, partially based on Thomas De Quincey's 1845 essay Suspiria de Profundis. The film stars Jessica Harper as an American ballet student who transfers to a prestigious dance academy but realizes, after a series of brutal murders, that the academy is a front for a supernatural conspiracy. It also features Stefania Casini, Flavio Bucci, Miguel Bosé, Alida Valli, Udo Kier, and Joan Bennett, in her final film role. It is recognised as one of the most influential films in the horror genre. It served as the inspiration for a 2018 film of the same title, directed by Luca Guadagnino.Next week: The Happiness of the Katakuris with Michael Varrati!Website: http://www.bloodhauspod.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/BloodhausPodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/bloodhauspod/Email: bloodhauspod@gmail.comDrusilla's art: https://www.sisterhydedesign.com/Drusilla's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hydesister/Drusilla's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/drew_phillips/Joshua's website: https://www.joshuaconkel.com/Joshua's Twitter: https://twitter.com/JoshuaConkel Joshua's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshua_conkel/Joshua's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/joshuaconkel/
You've heard of found footage horror, but is the world ready for a found commentary horror? In this week's episode of Certified Forgotten, the Matts are joined by writer-director Michael Varrati (@MichaelVarrati) to discuss Director's Cut, Adam Rifkin's movie-within-a-movie collaboration with actor-magician Penn Jillette. People have been terrified by the delights of a horror film since the late 1800s, during the earliest stages of motion-picture film. Since its creation, horror has developed into more than just a genre. It's a space to face our collective fears and explore the unknown. We're drawn to characters like Dracula or Freddy Krueger because they stand out from what is familiar. Otherness is a popular theme within horror films, especially for the LGBTQ+ community. Today, we chat with Michael Varrati and Brendan Haley, two filmmakers with a special admiration for the genre of horror. They'll walk us through the queer themes in some of our favorite classic scary movies like "Nightmare on Elm Street 2," what otherness means in cinema, and how queer horror is still evolving today.
