JONAH WAS a vindictive man who cared more about a plant than he did for the 120,000 people of Nineveh. Reading the short Book of Jonah aloud makes it clear that the story is as much about Jonah's desire for the destruction of Nineveh as it is about God's mercy and desire that all people would repent and return to Him. Not only did Jonah try to run away from God, but when he finally did proclaim God's imminent judgment on the great city (reluctantly), he was so upset that God spared the city that Jonah asked God to kill him! This is one of those sections of the Bible that would surely have been rewritten to show Jonah in a better light if the text had been changed over the years—although we note that the time given the Ninevites to repent was changed from three days to forty between the time of the Septuagint translation (around 200 BC) and the Masoretic text on which our English Old Testament is based (about 900 AD). WE'RE BACK from our Israel tour, where we saw the red heifers that have caused such a stir. Four of the heifers are being kept at Shiloh. On July 1, the Temple Institute sacrificed and burned one of the five that had been brought to Israel in September of 2022 in what's been described as a trial run. There have been some reports that this was the actual sacrifice required to prepare the way for the Third Temple, which prompted the Temple Institute to issue a press release this week denying that the ritual in July was kosher. However, it's our belief that the Temple Institute doesn't actually intend to build a Third Temple. Its fundraising efforts seem to be funneled into political causes rather than dedicated to its stated goal of making the Temple a reality. We also discuss the reality of spiritual warfare, which is now complicated by the role of AI chatbots, and how so many mainline denominations have drained the Bible of its supernatural content. In January 2025, Club for Growth a Washington D.C.-based political action committee issued a stark warning to all State Republicans to support Governor Bill Lee's School Freedom Act. State Representative Jody Barrett who represents Dickson, Hickman and Lewis Counties chose to stand by his constituents and voted "no". Barrett says he is pro-school choice, but "I just didn't like this particular plan. It wasn't going to do enough for the amount of money it was going to cost the state. There were a lot of fiscally responsible questions and responsibility questions." Amanda Ortega, founder and CEO of Beyond Bottleshop, is leading the charge to make intentional, alcohol-free drinking accessible to everyone.Amanda's shop in downtown Springfield, Ohio, offers a colorful selection of non-alcoholic and functional beverages — drinks that not only taste good but also help people feel energized, relaxed, or uplifted. She explained, “A lot of the non-alcoholic industry kind of exploded during COVID. A lot of the products that I carry were founded during that time. So we're not too far behind, and I'm just excited to be an industry leader in the Midwest.”Beyond Bottleshop started small, inside a local gift shop. As Amanda put it, “It was an opportunity for me to have a small space with not too much overhead and start selling these non-alcoholic beverages.” What began as a local experiment quickly grew into something much bigger. Customers now drive an hour or more to visit the store, and Amanda has launched an online shop to reach more people across the country.Her next goal is to expand into distribution, helping restaurants and bars create high-quality, non-alcoholic cocktails. “I'm really passionate about getting into the hospitality industry and bridging the gap between what's happening for people personally and what they can get when they're out,” she said. “I'm excited to bridge that gap with other businesses.”Amanda is also raising capital for Beyond Bottleshop through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on Honeycomb Credit. The campaign allows community members to invest as little as $100 to help her business grow. “There are a lot of people who feel passionate about what I do,” she said. “What a cool opportunity that they can give a hundred dollars, a thousand dollars, or whatever is in their range to help a small business grow that's local.”Her passion for intentional drinking came from her own journey. After years of running a wine shop and working in hospitality with her husband, a chef, Amanda began to seek healthier, more mindful options. “I just became really passionate about intentional drinking,” she said. “It just felt like enough time has been spent in my life in and around alcohol.
