Dr. Dennis Alan travels to Haiti to research a drug that appears to be "zombifying" locals. The Serpent and the Rainbow is the last movie of Wes Craven May and a movie we love to rewatch. Flying under the radar of some of Craven's other movies, this film stars Bill Pullman as a convincing anthropologist working to uncover strange occurrences in Haiti regarding a drug that is pausing vital signs. This film explores the "stranger in a strange land" concept very well, adding in cultural elements, Voodoo practices, as well as touching on the political strife, all playing a role in the film. The film is loosely based on the Wade Davis book "The Serpent and the Rainbow: A Harvard Scientist's Astonishing Journey into the Secret Societies of Haitian Voodoo, Zombies, and Magic". Escaped convicts kidnap and harm two teen girls who stop for weed in the city on their way to a rock concert. The Last House on the Left is a controversial film due to the depiction of sexual violence in the movie. A schizophrenic serial killer comes back to his hometown to kill the seven kids who were prematurely born on the day he reportedly died. My Soul to Take is a movie that we have long criticized for being a weak slasher in almost every possible way. It's even more unfortunate to know that it was directed by Wes Craven. This film has some interesting concepts that are not only poorly executed, but they also fail to develop into anything meaningful at any point. Not to mention, there are a ton of overplayed cliches and cringey, forgettable characters. Watch the movie and catch our review. Upon robbing the home of his landlords, Fool notices there are unusual men being kept under the stairs in the basement floor. He also discovers a young girl named, Alice in the home as he attempts to escape from under the noses of his landlords. The People Under the Stairs is a hidden gem from Wes Craven and a movie that sometimes feels over the top in all the right ways. Everett McGill and Wendy Robie stand out as the landlords who are constantly chasing Fool throughout the movie and continue to raise the meter on how evil they can be. This is also not to mention that they are capturing and keeping people in their basement in a sectioned area under the stairs. This is a nice kickoff to Wes Craven month and a movie that is enjoyable to watch each time it's on. A group in Pennsylvania hole up in a farmhouse in an attempt to survive against rampaging undead feasting for their flesh. Night of the Living Dead is the classic zombie apocalypse movie from one of the greats, George A. Romero. Romero helped inspire what zombie movies are today and it's clear that the way this film portrayed a macro view of a zombie apocalypse set the stage for how films are utilizing survivor struggles in a post-apocalyptic world today. This was our first time watching the movie and although we had some mixed reviews, we all agreed the film is influential. While celebrating a birthday, a group of friends unknowlingly release a curse long instilled in a myserious deck of tarot cards. Following their readings, the group begin to die off one-by-one as fate would have it in accordance with their readings.Tarot is a teen slasher horror movie released in 2024 that feels very similar to the Final Destination films, but with tarot card readings. With a very familiar concept, fate takes the friend group one-by-one as the group continues to make the worst mistakes ignoring the very clear pathway to death as identified in their tarot car readings. The film doesn't feel original, the kills are weak, and although the visuals at times are well done, the buildup to the kills is poorly executed. After buying a beat-up car with evil intentions, a socially awkward boy's nature begins to change, matching it.Christine is a fun horror novel adaptation from Stephen King, directed by John Carpenter. While it doesn't have an all-star cast, Carpenter creates a fun environment where the characters are fleshed out and work off the killer well, which happens to be a car. While the movie can be ridiculous at times, it's enjoyable, the kills are great, and is entertaining all the way to the end. After Completing the First 5 Weeks of Lent: Preparing for the Actual Mystery of Holy Week: Lenten Conference #6 Entering the Mystery: A Journey Through Holy Week This is Part 1 of this conference, given just before Holy Week. The conference delves deeply into the liturgical, historical, and spiritual significance of the days leading up to and including the Triduum: Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the beginning of the Easter celebration. Key themes include: • The centrality of Easter Sunday in Christian life, considered the most important holy day from which all others flow. • Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion, highlighting the liturgy's symbolic movements and how they transition the faithful from celebration to solemnity. • The significance of movement and ritual, such as the procession and the use of physical gestures like kneeling and walking to mirror spiritual journeys. • Holy Thursday, particularly the Mass of the Lord's Supper, the institution of the Eucharist, the washing of feet, and the transition from Lent into the Paschal Triduum. • Good Friday, emphasizing the unique nature of the day—its silence, absence of the Mass, and focus on the priesthood and sacrifice of Christ. The reflection weaves theological insight with liturgical instruction, urging the faithful to enter into the mysteries of the Passion with body, mind, and spirit. After Completing the First 5 Weeks of Lent: Preparing for the Actual Mystery of Holy Week: Lenten Conference #6: Part 2 In Silence and Fire: Encountering Christ in the Holy Days This is Part 2 of this conference, given just before Holy Week. This conference continues by capturing a rich and passionate reflection on the liturgical depth and spiritual symbolism of the Good Friday and Easter celebrations within the Catholic Church. We are led within a powerful journey through the Paschal Triduum, beginning with the veiling and gradual unveiling of the crucifix during the Good Friday liturgy. This ritual highlights the unfolding mystery of Christ's passion, encouraging believers to first understand, pray, and unite their hearts with Jesus' sacrificial love before visually encountering the cross. The Good Friday Liturgy The Good Friday liturgy is marked by solemn intercessions for all humanity, affirming the universal reach of Christ's redemptive act. The veneration of the single crucifix serves as a profound moment of communal reverence, underscoring the singularity of Christ's sacrifice. The Easter Vigil is celebrated with grandeur and symbolism—starting with the blessing of a new fire and the lighting of the Paschal candle, representing the risen Christ. Through light, scripture, and sacramental renewal, the liturgy transitions the faithful from darkness to light, death to resurrection. This includes the renewal of baptismal vows and the sprinkling with holy water, symbolically cleansing the ashes of Lent and marking spiritual rebirth. The Church also reflects on the value of sitting in silence before an empty tabernacle on Holy Saturday morning, recognizing the rare spiritual weight of absence. The entire experience is portrayed as an invitation to deeper renewal, awareness, and joyful participation in the mysteries of faith. A mentally unstable photo developer desires to be a part of a suburban family and his obsession takes a turn for the worst when he develops a family secret. One Hour Photo stars Robin Williams whose performance as a lonely photo developer longing to be part of a family is so believable and unsettling. As someone who brought so many smiles to people's faces, Williams was such a great casting for a role that's so dark, serious, and a deviation from what viewers are used to from him. The movie is very sad, touching on belonging and acceptance, leading to a thought-provoking conclusion. Adam Marcus is the director of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993). A brand-new documentary on the film, Hearts of Darkness: The Making of the Final Friday (2025) dives into the fandom of the controversial ninth installment in the Friday the 13th franchise. Adam co-wrote Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013) with his wife Debra Sullivan and Kirsten Elms, which went to #1 at the box office, beating Django: Unchained (2013). He also directed and co-wrote Secret Santa (2018), a hilarious and bloody story about a family on the verge of destruction. When Adam was 11, he worked as a production assistant on Friday the 13th (1980). At age 13, he was an editing apprentice on the raunchy sex comedy, Spring Break (1983). When he turned 15, he started operating his own theater company in Connecticut, putting on productions that he directed & produced himself. After taking film courses at NYU and being given advanced credit, Adam moved to Los Angeles to work on feature films. He co-produced My Boyfriend's Back (1993) and then upon successfully completing a directors test with New Line Cinema, was handed the keys to one of the biggest franchises in horror history. On May 20th, Arrow Video will be releasing a brand new 4K transfer of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) featuring a plethora of special features and a brand new audio commentary with Steve "Uncle Creepy" Barton and Michael Felsher.
Two brothers cause chaos in a small village when they move a rotten body unintentionally spreading evil. When Evil Lurks is a hidden gem of a possession movie. Taking the form of a rotten, zombie-looking individual that is festering away in a small village, evil is at work. The film features two brothers as the leads who try to protect their families at all costs given the lack of information about the evil force at hand, but end up unintentionally making the lives of everyone around them worse. The film explores the relationship of the supernatural with children and effectively presents a new entry into possession and undead films that hasn't been seen before. It's bloody, it's fun, and at times, hard-to-watch. A group of space marines are tasked with taking down the leprechaun in outer space, while he's attempting to romance a princess more interested in his gold. Leprechaun 4: In Space is possibly the wildest Leprechaun movie yet. The leprechaun is now in space and this idea brings more questions than are ever answered in the movie. While this movie brings together the craziest set of characters and storylines, it diminishes the focus on the leprechaun's gold, which leaves the movie unfulfilled. Jigsaw puts a doctor through a game to keep himself alive as well as allows his apprentice to run a game herself that is somehow connected to Jigsaw's game.Saw III features a very sick Jigsaw who allows his apprentice, Amanda, to start taking over his legacy. The film is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who directed Saw II and continues on to direct Saw IV. While the film isn't as strong as the first two in the series, it does add value to the series by bringing back returning characters, Eric and Kerry, played by Donnie Wahlberg and Dina Meyer and carves a new path for Jigsaw and Amanda. The movie delivers on clever traps, crazy kills, and fills in more of Jigsaw's background that makes the series more interesting. Aliens set "Plan 9" into motion on planet Earth by bringing the dead back to life and threatening the planet.Plan 9 from Outer Space is the finale of Bad Movie January and the film is as bad as advertised. This was our second watch and it was as bad as remembered. It's so bad, that discussing it was such a challenge. Ed Wood Jr. is widely known as one of the worst directors and after watching this film, the criticism is understood. While Plan 9 is the plan for the aliens to bring the dead back to life, it's never discussed what happened with plans 1-8, but even if they did mention it, we're positive it would make this movie even more nonsensical. A man, who was traumatized as a child during Christmas, experiences a mental break after being deceived at his work in a toy factory, goes on a killing spree around Christmas. Christmas Evil is not at all what we were expecting during our first watch. Expecting a horror slasher, this film is a character piece of a man, traumatized by Christmas during his youth, loosing his grip on reality. We don't expect much else from Brian Yuzna, but with Clint Howard playing a character named Ricky, where it's completely left open if there's any continuity from the Ricky in the previous movies and the addition of body horror and bugs into known slasher films is a bit of a surprise. The evil cookie killer, The Gingerdead Man, returns to a film studio to continue his murderous rampage. The Gingerdead Man 2: Passion of the Crust is quite the sequel to The Gingerdead Man. With very loose story continuity from the first move, this film may be even more outrageous than the previous film. It takes place in a film studio with a set of crazy characters who are terrorized by a killer gingerbread cookie. The story writes itself and although the movie may not make any sense, it's hard to stop watching. Watch the movie and catch our review. After a massacre on Black Friday, the townspeople of Plymouth, Massachusetts are prey to a killer.Thanksgiving contains an amazing cast led by Patrick Dempsey that features a mysterious killer who is murdering anyone who was involved in a Black Friday Massacre that occurred one year prior. The film centers around different townspeople in Plymouth, Massachusetts, which is the origin place of the Thanksgiving holiday. The killer dresses as pilgrim John Carver, which is an original slasher idea. The film is a good mystery that makes all the townspeople suspicious of each other and is enjoyable all the way to the end. Watch the movie and catch our review. A local coroner team of father and son, investigate the mysterious death surrounding a Jane Doe over one night. The Autopsy of Jane Doe is led by a cast of Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch, who do an excellent job in this movie investigating the death of a mysterious dead girl. They work off each other so well and as they continue to learn more about their subject, their reactions to the strange occurrences that are happening is very entertaining. With a small cast, this movie shines and continues to get creepier as the film progresses. When a young boy is kidnapped and locked in a basement, amidst a string of child disappearances, he beings to receive calls from the killer's previous victims from a dead phone. The Black Phone is an ominous movie that takes place in the late 70s and gives the tone that a serial killer is striking. Ethan Hawke plays a deeply disturbed killer known as "The Grabber" who drives around in a black van, kidnapping young boys, and bringing them down into his basement. Hawke is very creepy in his role and it's clear that his character has so much more going on than what is shown on-screen and the film keeps the audience guessing. While the movie isn't perfect, it's an entertaining thriller with a solid ending. Watch the movie and catch our review. College kids on Thanksgiving break are preyed upon by a killer Thanksgiving turkey.ThanksKilling is a cult classic horror comedy movie that puts college kids up against a killer Thanksgiving turkey. The characters and kills are crazy, and the one-liners from the turkey are what make this movie fun. While this movie has its flaws, it makes the most of a low budget and is an entertaining Thanksgiving horror movie. Watch the movie and catch our review. Michael Myers returns Haddonfield on a mission to kill his mute niece.Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers takes place one year after Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and brings Michael back to Haddonfield to take out his mute niece. In typical Halloween style, Michael drives cars, swims, and teleports his way to crazy kills. As always, it's always a pleasure to see Dr. Loomis continue to command the entire town of Haddonfield against Michael. Watch the movie and catch our review. Teenagers encounter evil at a party in a funeral parlor on Halloween night, which prevents them from leaving and puts them in a fight for survival against demons.Night of the Demons is considered a cult classic, Halloween horror movie, but after watching, not much happens. It's not good, it's not bad, but once thing is for certain, the movie gets weird. These demons are not only looking to kill, but they are very sexual. Watch the movie and catch our review. A babysitter for two children on Halloween night discovers a tape among their candy bags featuring three horror stories. Each story is linked by a murderous clown and after starting the tape, strange occurrences take place in the house. All Hollows' Eve is the first feature-length film directed by Damien Leone, best known for the Terrifier movies. What's interesting about All Hollows' Eve is that it depicts Art the Clown prior to the Terrifier movies. In this film, he's portrayed as a killer clown among a series of short horror films in a video tape discovered in a bag of Halloween candy. We enjoy horror anthology movies and found two of the three short horror films in this movie to be very entertaining. However, one of the films seemed very out-of-place. A recovery team heads to the Honey Island Swamp to search for any survivors as Marybeth discovers the secret to putting an end to the curse of Victor Crowley. Spooky Season is upon us and it only makes sense to kick off October with Victor Crowley. Hatchet III is another fun sequel from this slasher series that always turns up the kills and the fun. In this film, a search and rescue team attempt to look for the whereabouts of any survivors after the events of the previous movie. While the focus is a bit different, the theme of large groups of people heading to the Honey Island Swamp and getting horribly murdered by Victor Crowley remains the same. This series does an amazing job of keeping the content fresh and providing laughs along the way. After 10 years have passed, Sidney Prescott is haunted again by the Ghostface Killer when her cousin becomes a target. The last movie we are discussing in Sequel September is Scream 4. Wes Craven comes back with a banger as this film continues the fun of having charming characters centered around an entertaining mystery. As we come to expect from Scream movies, the writing is very clever and the parody is hilarious. The movie has a strong cast who put together great performances and make the film one of the best in the series. The Firefly group continue their onslaught of murder after the barely make their way out of prison alive.3 From Hell is the 3rd installment in the movies following the Firefly clan directed by Rob Zombie. We've been critical of Rob Zombie's movies on this show and this film left much to be desired. We didn't think a sequel could be made after the ending of The Devil's Rejects, but nonetheless, another sequel was made and this is unfortunately, the worst of the three. After a deadly prank and coverup, a group of teenagers in a small Colorado town find themselves to be the prey of a killer of legend.I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer is a movie that draws slight references to the first film and attempts to bring back the fisherman killer with the hook, but is unable to bring the tale back to life. Taking place in a Colorado town, which appears to be far more mountainous that coastal, references the seafaring killer in a way that doesn't make sense with where they are. The accidental death of a friend in a prank sparks the legend and the killings, but does not deliver. After providing a ton of potential killers, this movie takes the worst route with the ending reveal of who the killer is and had us stunned. Watch the movie and catch our review. Years following the escape of Sara and Eddie from the former asylum, Sara's sister, Ariel, attempts to discover the truth behind the house. In the second week of Sequel September, we discuss Return to House on Haunted Hill. A movie that is so bad, it's so fun to watch. We had a soft spot for the House on Haunted Hill and couldn't wait to watch the sequel once we found out one came out. The movie involves irrelevant plot lines that are so ridiculous, we have to laugh. Watch the movie and catch our review.
