Jess and Chris continue their monthly journey into the weird world of single seasons TV shows with a continued look at 1967's spy science fiction mashup The Prisoner. The show, created by the main star Patrick McGoohan, follows Number Six, a secret agent who, after turning in his resignation, is kidnapped by unseen forces and sent to the Island after turning in his resignation. The Island is a home for dissenters, and other individuals deemed too dangerous to live unchecked in public. As Number Six attempts to unravel the mystery behind why he has been sent to the Island, he must also rebuff attempts at cracking his psyche to figure out what secrets he may know. Jess and Chris talk about the twelfth and thirteenth episodes "Hammer into Anvil" and "Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling", following the Six of One fan order. You can follow Jess @writerjessbyard, Chris @chrismasclaus, and @oneseasonshow, along with a big thanks to Chalalatas for their song "Mustaches and Martinis."
In this episode, screenwriter Cai Ross and lecturer Chris Bainbridge continue discussing the seventeen episodes of the prescient 1967 TV show, The Prisoner. This week, special guest Rick Davy (writer, researcher, and curator of TheUnmutual.co.uk) defends Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling and why he feels this episode deserves much more appreciation. Minutiae will be scrutinised and tangents will be explored with dash of light humour. Regular feature Who's The Two looks at the career of Welsh actor Clifford Evans. As ever, your hosts will cast their critical eyes over the episode, with discussion on interpretation, trivia, humour and an exploration of the production process. The only Prisoner podcast produced in north Wales, home of the Village itself, Portmeirion. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

I (Chris) have long suspected The Prisoner is a show with a particular appeal to creative people, and I love to be proven right. Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling is a Prisoner-inspired punk duo comprised of filmmakers/musicians/writers/creators/etc. Sophia Cacciola and Michael J. Epstein. When we saw their video for "Arrival" — a meticulous, two-years-in-the making recreation of The Prisoner's opening title sequence — we knew we had to meet them. From this wildly ambitious and improbably successful short film, they graduated to making features, as they tell us in a conversation that reaches far beyond The Prisoner to address the joys and the confines of fandom. Plus, I learned a new word. Watch their "Arrival" video here! Find their music on Bandcamp! And learn more about their current activities — and hire them if you want! — here. "Arrival" "A., B., & C." "Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling" "Hammer into Anvil" "Living in Harmony" "Many Happy Returns" "The Girl Who Was Death" "Once Upon a Time" Written by Sophia Cacciola; performed by Sophia Cacciola (vocals, drums) and Michael J. Epstein (bass, programming, additional vocals). "A.,B., & C." and "Hammer into Anvil" feature Rachel Leah Blumenthal on oboe and Susannah Plaster on viola. Chris and Glen respond to listener email and then take up a tactical position on the western emplacement of Glen's Remote Mountain Stronghold to discuss their IRL reunion and promised viewing of Rob Marshall's Best Picture-winning 2002 film version of John Kander & Fred Ebb's Chicago. Which has precisely nothing to do with The Prisoner but hey, we are, famously, a tangent-tolerant podcast. Then they read a few more listener emails. It's a bit anticlimactic, honestly. But the reunion was lovely, as are your emails. Write to the Citizens Advice Bureau at adegreeabsolute dot gmail! Leave us a five-star review with your hottest Prisoner take on Apple Podcasts! The Tally Ho welcomes you to The Village as we continue our journey through classic TV series The Prisoner. In this episode we look at Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, the thirteenth episode of The Prisoner. Number 6 is subjected to a bizarre experiment in which is mind is transferred into the body of a another man (Nigel Stock). Placed back in his London home with his memories of The Village erased, his only hope may be to track down Professor Seltzman, the missing scientist who invented procedure. But it seems that everyone is looking for Seltzman, and hoping that Number 6 will lead them straight to him...Join us as we discuss this strange episode in which Patrick McGoohan is notably absent! We are then joined by actor and writer Rupert Booth, the author of the wonderful McGoohan biography Not A Number to discuss McGoohan's life and work. We also get our usual news round-up from Rick Davy of The Unmutual. And we take a look at some of our Twitter followers' suggestions for their dream actor to have played Number 2 in the series! Here are two super-fun YouTube videos that give a little taste of what it would be like with Number Six played by a woman. First, a shot-for-shot remake of The Prisoner opening credits as a music video for the band Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbUhmwSObto And secondly, Jess Erskine's hilarious remake of those opening credits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4eUSmUWsUY

The Prisoner - "Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling" - Erika and Steven dig into what’s almost an AU episode of The Prisoner. It doesn’t really fit the continuity of the show, but does that matter? Not when it’s an episode this interesting. Be seeing you! Host Steven Schapansky and Erika Ensign.
