On this latest episode of Last Word On Spurs, we return to review Tottenham Hotspur's second successive pre-season victory, as Roberto De Zerbi's side continued their encouraging preparations for the new campaign with another clean-sheet, this time against Auckland FC. We discuss the overall performance, the standout individual displays, the tactical themes beginning to emerge under De Zerbi and the positives to take from another professional outing as Spurs continue to build fitness, confidence and momentum ahead of the Premier League season. As always, we also bring you the very latest from the transfer window, with plenty to dissect. We analyse reports that Tottenham's pursuit of Savinho is back on, discussing what the Brazilian winger could bring to the squad and whether a deal now looks increasingly realistic. We also examine Spurs' ongoing attempts to land highly-rated French forward Kroupi, looking at where negotiations currently stand and whether Bournemouth will end up selling the forward before the deadline. Elsewhere, we discuss reports of a potential enquiry for Mbaye and assess whether the player fits the profile Tottenham are looking to recruit this summer as the club continue to strengthen across several key positions. It's not just incomings making the headlines either. We also tackle the latest speculation surrounding several first-team stars, including Inter Milan's offer lodged for captain Cristian Romero. Following De Zerbi confirming he is yet to speak with Lucas Bergvall we discuss why the future looks like for the Swede, and questions surround Guglielmo Vicario as clubs continue to monitor the Italian goalkeeper's situation. We debate how likely each departure is, what it would mean for Spurs if any of those players were to leave, and whether the club already have contingency plans in place. With pre-season continuing to provide encouraging signs on the pitch and the transfer window entering another crucial phase, there's no shortage of important talking points. The Last Word On Spurs panel return to review our first club friendly of the upcoming campaign as Mateus Fernandes took just three minutes to light the touch paper of his Spurs career and our pre-season preparations as we beat MK Dons 1-0 at Hotspur Way on Wednesday evening. Lining up alongside fellow new arrival Sandro Tonali and Conor Gallagher in midfield, our summer capture from West Ham made his mark in superb style on his first appearance in Lilywhite. Mathys Tel swung in a corner, goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray punched high and clear only for Fernandes to thunder back a volley that pinged home off the inside of the post. It was a goal worthy of winning any game - in this case, it was enough to beat a well-organised, competitive MK side. The players will now fly out to Auckland, New Zealand for the the first part of our pre-season tour, taking on Auckland at Eden Park in the early hours of Sunday morning (4am UK). We also reflect on the sale of Will Lankshear to Middlesbrough, with Cristian Romero, Alfie Dorrington and Ashley Phillips expected to also leave the Club and whether our youngsters see a genuine pathway to the first-team.We also debate the news that James Maddison is set to be named the Captain of Tottenham Hotspur. Synopsis The late Sam Neill plays John Trent, an insurance investigator tracking down the whereabouts of Sutter Cane a famous horror novelist who has gone missing right before the release of his new novel. Trent suspects that the whole thing is a publicity stunt for the novel's release, but as he searches for Kane, he finds the line between Kane's fictional world and reality start to fray and overlap in disturbing ways. Review John Carpenter goes full Lovecraftian, melding his trademark independent film sensibilities and impressive practical effects with cosmic horror. If you look at his Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB ratings, you will also see that this is his last major film with significant critical and audience praise. It marks the end of an era where scrappy 80s gore and body horror was supplanted by slicker high budget meta narratives. This movie ushered in the new era with the likes of Candyman, The New Nightmare, and Scream. standing between two eras, this definitely has more of an esthetic aligned with the scrappy indy vibe of Romero and Carpenters previous work. The idea takes center stage and isn't handled preciously. It presents itself as a cool thing and lets the audience take a little ride without delving deep into the psychological or taking itself too seriously. Kind of like a Stephen King novel actually. I picked this one because of the passing of Sam Neill and he does a great job here being the everyman descending into, you guessed it, madness. We also get Happy Gilmore's grandma being freaky af, Vigo the Carpathian, and a very young Hayden Christiansen. Like I said before, it's a fun ride that doesn't take itself too seriously. My only criticism is that it does rely on some repetitive cinematic moves such as jump scares and arbitrary time loops. But it's all to service the films uneasy vibe and give impact to the singular moments of cosmic horror. Score 7/10

Education, workforce development and the future of California agriculture took center stage during Part 2 of the AgNet News Hour interview with Republican lieutenant governor candidate Gloria Romero. During the conversation, Romero outlined several policy priorities she believes could strengthen California's rural communities and agricultural economy. Romero emphasized that California's agricultural industry extends far beyond crop production, arguing that strong schools, reliable infrastructure and a skilled workforce are essential to keeping farms and rural businesses competitive. One issue she highlighted was education. Romero noted that the lieutenant governor serves on governing boards for the University of California, California State University and California Community Colleges, giving the office an opportunity to influence higher education policy. She expressed concern about student achievement and workforce readiness, saying California must better prepare students for careers in agriculture, business and other industries. "We have a very profound education crisis," Romero said while discussing academic performance and workforce development. Romero also returned to the topic of California agriculture, describing farming as one of the state's most important economic drivers. She said state leaders should place greater emphasis on supporting food production through practical policies involving water, housing, education and regulation. Throughout the interview, she argued that maintaining a strong agricultural economy requires long-term investment in rural communities and infrastructure while reducing barriers that make it more difficult for producers to operate in California. The conversation also revisited government spending and transparency. Romero said she would support increased oversight of state spending and called for greater accountability in how taxpayer dollars are managed if elected to statewide office. She said restoring public confidence requires more transparency and regular review of state programs. Near the end of the interview, Romero reflected on her own background growing up around agriculture and said those experiences continue to shape her perspective on California farming. "I understand that family farms are worth fighting for," she said, adding that agriculture remains central to California's economy and identity. The interview concluded with Romero encouraging Californians to evaluate candidates based on their policy proposals and vision for the state's future. Chris Wood's Semenyo callback from the members' group lands mid-argument. The middle stretch is the substance: the Cristian Romero decision (DJ makes the "hit the reset button" case; Si argues sell-at-peak; Stu names the reputation problem in the Premier League); a panel love-in on Djed Spence that goes places most Spurs pods don't; and the two panel-on-record moments — trophy or top four (Sean Hurl's dilemma) plus a points prediction each. Gloria Romero Outlines Agriculture Priorities for California's Future

California agriculture, water infrastructure and rural communities were among the topics discussed during today's episode of the AgNet News Hour, featuring Republican lieutenant governor candidate Gloria Romero. Romero shared her views on the challenges facing the state and discussed why she believes agriculture should play a larger role in California's policy discussions. Romero, a former Democratic state senator who later changed her party affiliation, said California's agricultural regions often receive less attention than the state's major urban centers. She argued that farmers, ranchers and rural communities deserve a stronger voice in Sacramento, particularly when it comes to water, infrastructure and regulatory policy. Water was one of the primary issues discussed throughout the interview. Romero said California should invest more aggressively in water storage, additional reservoir capacity and desalination projects while continuing to improve long-term planning for the state's growing population. "Water is the source of life," Romero said. "We have to prepare for the future." The conversation also touched on California's energy sector. Romero referenced the state's oil production, arguing that California has significant energy resources that could help support jobs and reduce reliance on imported petroleum. She also discussed recent AgNet News Hour interviews covering California's commercial fishing industry and domestic energy production, saying both industries deserve greater public attention. Romero also criticized what she described as increasing regulatory burdens on agriculture, saying California producers face challenges ranging from water availability and permitting to labor costs and environmental regulations. She argued that state leaders should focus on policies that allow farming operations to remain competitive while continuing to produce food for California and the nation. Another topic during the interview was the California Coastal Commission. Romero said that, if elected lieutenant governor, she would serve on several state commissions and would advocate for what she described as a more balanced approach to protecting natural resources while supporting economic activity along the coast. She specifically pointed to concerns about water quality and wastewater issues affecting Southern California beaches. Throughout the discussion, Romero emphasized the importance of bipartisan cooperation and encouraged Californians to evaluate candidates based on their proposed policies and solutions. The interview is part one of a two-part conversation, with the second installment continuing the discussion on California policy, agriculture and the state's economic outlook. We then switch our focus to Spurs, tackling the massive squad dilemmas facing the club regarding Cristian Romero and Djed Spence. With Luka Vuskovic officially heading to Brighton, did Romero's performance against England prove he is simply too good for the club to even consider selling? And with Spence in such incredible form on the international stage, would letting him leave this summer be a huge mistake? This week on Bad Dads Film Review, regular programming is temporarily suspended because the World Cup has taken over. No movie this time — instead, Sidey, Dan, Cris and Reegs look ahead to England v Argentina on Wednesday 15 July 2026, and ask the most important question in football: is it actually coming home? What we covered#ICH: the birth of “It's Coming Home” energy and why this World Cup feels different.England's long road from the lows of Euro 2008, Steve McClaren's brolly, Iceland, and the underachieving golden generation. Why the modern England setup has changed: St George's Park, elite player development, the under-21 pipeline, and a squad that actually seems to like each other.Gareth Southgate's legacy: restoring pride and culture, even if tactical caution may have cost England against Italy, Croatia and Spain.Thomas Tuchel's England: more intensity, better defensive structure, set pieces, positive substitutions, and a clearer tactical plan.England's tournament so far: not always dazzling, but resilient, adaptable and capable of raising the level when the opposition demands it.Hydration breaks: cynical advert break, useful tactical reset, and Dan's preferred toilet window.England's attacking identity: direct, vertical, fast and built around Kane's movement, Bellingham's late arrivals, and wide players who can stretch tired full-backs.The “starters and finishers” idea: Madueke as chaos engine, Saka as late-game punishment.Argentina's threat: shithousery, tempo control, physicality, Romero, and the small matter of Lionel Messi.Cris's theory that England win if they keep the tempo high and make Argentina run.Predictions: Cris 3–0 England, Reegs 3–2 England, Sidey/Dan closer to 1–0 or 2–1, possibly after extra time.Sidey's BetBuilder: Gordon to score, Romero booked, England to go through.Key moments / quotesDan opens with the unavoidable: “It's coming home.”Sidey describes it as “a change to regular programming” because the World Cup has taken over. The group revisits the old England problem: club rivalries, players sitting at separate tables, and a golden generation that never really became a team.Cris backs the development pathway argument, noting how promoting from within helped bypass old rivalries.Dan gives Southgate credit for putting pride back into the shirt, even if he was not always convinced by him as a manager.Reegs frames Tuchel's England as reflecting “some of the best things about English football”: intensity, defensive security and set pieces.Cris says England are not Spain, France or Brazil in terms of central artistry — they are more direct, more vertical, more “crash bang wallop”.The group agrees Messi is still the great unknown: maybe the old days are gone, but nobody wants to be the team that finds out they are not.Sidey's gambling-adjacent closing thought: Gordon goal, Romero yellow, England through.VerdictConfidence is high, but nobody is fully relaxed because England are England and Argentina are Argentina. The dads are backing England to go through, but with varying degrees of emotional self-protection.You can now text us anonymously to leave feedback, suggest future content or simply hurl abuse at us.
