What happens to eating disorder recovery when the culture around you starts celebrating weight loss again? In this deeply personal solo episode, Dr. Marianne continues sharing her eating disorder recovery story and talks about something that has surprised her: the return of body insecurities during the Age of Ozempic. After recovering from a decades-long history of anorexia, binge eating disorder, orthorexia, and bulimia, she rarely spends much time thinking about her body size. But the rise of Ozempic and other GLP-1 medications like Zepbound and Wegovy has changed the cultural conversation around weight, thinness, and fat bodies. During the height of the body diversity movement, living in a larger body felt different. Plus-size clothing became more visible. Larger bodies appeared in advertising. Conversations about weight stigma, fatphobia, body neutrality, and fat liberation entered the mainstream. Now, many of those gains seem to be disappearing as celebrities become smaller, plus-size departments vanish from stores, and thinness once again becomes something we're expected to pursue. When Eating Disorder Recovery Meets the Age of Ozempic Dr. Marianne shares what it's like to encounter old eating disorder and body image thoughts after years of recovery. Sometimes those thoughts arrive unexpectedly: Look at that celebrity. They did it. Why can't I? Having that thought doesn't mean eating disorder recovery has failed. Recovery doesn't necessarily erase decades of conditioning around weight and body size. Instead, it can help us recognize internalized weight bias when it resurfaces and decide whether we want to listen to it. Dr. Marianne also discusses an important distinction: wanting a smaller body isn't necessarily the same thing as wanting relief from anti-fat bias. Sometimes the thought, Life would be easier if I were thinner, reflects a painful reality about how fat people are treated rather than a genuine desire to change one's body. The World Is Getting Smaller for Fat People Anti-fat bias doesn't exist only in our thoughts. It shows up in the physical world. Plus-size clothing departments have disappeared from many stores, forcing people in larger bodies to shop online. Airplane seats continue to create accessibility barriers for larger passengers. Cars, restaurant booths, waiting-room chairs, theaters, and other public spaces frequently fail to accommodate body diversity. The message can become impossible to ignore: if the world won't make more space for you, you're expected to make yourself smaller. Dr. Marianne explores the mental health toll of repeatedly navigating environments that weren't designed for your body. Constantly wondering whether a seat will fit, whether a store carries your size, or whether a healthcare provider will blame your symptoms on weight creates an enormous cognitive and emotional burden. Defending the Right to Be Fat Dr. Marianne shares a recent dream in which she found herself defending her fatness to another person. When she woke up, she realized how closely the dream reflected the experience of living in a larger body today. Fat people often have to defend their right to exist without pursuing intentional weight loss. They may have to advocate for appropriate healthcare, accessible seating, clothing, travel accommodations, and the basic right to occupy space without apology. That emotional labor takes energy. For neurodivergent people, the burden can become even greater. Autistic people and ADHDers may already expend significant energy navigating sensory needs, executive functioning, uncertainty, masking, and environments that weren't designed for neurodivergent nervous systems. When neurodivergence intersects with anti-fat bias and other forms of marginalization, the cumulative mental health toll can become significant. Internalized Weight Bias Doesn't Mean You've Failed at Recovery Eating disorder recovery happens in the real world, not in a protected bubble. You can appreciate your body and still feel hurt by weight stigma. You can reject diet culture and feel grief when plus-size clothing disappears. You can practice fat acceptance and still have moments when you wonder whether life would be easier in a smaller body. Those experiences don't erase recovery. Sometimes what looks like body dissatisfaction is actually grief, anger, exhaustion, or a desire to move through the world without constantly having to advocate for your right to belong. Dr. Marianne shares the question that helps her separate internalized weight bias from her own values: Do I actually want a different body, or do I want a different world? Finding Liberation-Focused Eating Disorder Support If the Age of Ozempic has stirred up old body image struggles, eating disorder thoughts, or internalized weight bias, you don't have to navigate those experiences alone. Finding an eating disorder therapist or provider who understands weight stigma can make a profound difference. Liberation-focused, trauma-informed, neurodivergent-affirming eating disorder treatment can create space to examine these experiences without making weight loss the goal. Why are so many faithful Christians still battling chronic illness? In this eye-opening conversation, I sit down with functional medicine expert Dr. Dusty Hess to uncover why health stewardship is among the most overlooked topics in the Church today. If you've ever wondered why people who love God still struggle with fatigue, chronic disease, ADHD, inflammation, hormone imbalance, or poor health, this episode offers a fresh biblical and practical perspective.Dr. Dusty shares how functional medicine and God's original design work together to help families identify the root causes of illness instead of simply managing symptoms. We discuss why stewardship—not perfection—is the goal, how environmental toxins, nutrition, sleep, and lifestyle influence our health, and why Christian families need a better model for lasting wellness. If you're ready to stop surviving and start stewarding the body God entrusted to you, this episode will encourage, challenge, and equip you with practical next steps.Podcast Chapters[00:00] Welcome to the Visibly Fit Podcast[01:16] Topic and Guest Introduction[03:50] Dr. Dusty's Mission: Helping Christian Families Thrive[05:30] A Personal Story That Changed Everything[07:00] Why Our Modern Lifestyle Is Making Us Sick[07:38] ADHD: Diagnosis or Root Cause?[10:00] Medication vs. Finding the Real Cause[12:21] Environmental Toxins and God's Original Design[15:29] Health Stewardship Is an Act of Worship[21:54] Common Health Challenges Christian Families Face[24:15] Why Coaching and Accountability Matter[25:32] The Four Pillars of Biblical Health[27:53] Why Are Good Christians Still Sick?[29:24] Feeling Fine Doesn't Mean You're Healthy[32:30] Why Functional Testing Matters[33:37] Health Misconceptions in the Church[36:45] Bringing Hope Back to Christian Health[37:23] Why Whole-Family Health Changes Everything[42:17] ADHD, Homeschooling & The Cultural War on Health[44:10] Dr. Dusty's Vision for the Church[47:55] Final Encouragement for Every Christian Family[50:30] Where to Connect with Dr. DustyResources mentioned:• Upstream Health: https://upstreamhealth.comConnect with today's guest: Dr. Dusty Hess is a nationally recognized functional medicine doctor, author, speaker, and founder of Upstream Health, a faith-centered movement helping Christian families reclaim their health by returning to God's original design. Estrogen is the hormone women are told to fear, and never told it is actually the one they need most. In this episode of The Medical Disruptor, I sit down with endocrinologist Dr. Cassie Smith to dismantle the hormone myth that's kept millions of women suffering: the belief that estrogen and hormone therapy cause cancer. Dr. Cassie trained at one of the top metabolism and endocrinology fellowships in the country, was named chief resident, ran clinical trials, and then walked away from conventional medicine because the system was failing her patients, and failing her. What she's seen treating thousands of women tells a very different story than what your doctor was taught. We get into why "normal" thyroid labs don't mean you're healthy, how your gut secretly controls whether your hormones actually work, why TSH is a terrible standalone test, and why hormones done correctly can extend longevity and lower your risk of heart disease, dementia, and disease, not raise it. If you've been hesitant about hormone therapy, this conversation will give you the context you need, so you can make a decision based on how hormones truly work, not on outdated fear. It is incredibly frustrating to experience debilitating sciatic nerve pain, only to have your spinal imaging come back labelled as "clear" or showing just mild age-related changes. In this livestream, Michael explains the massive disconnect between what an X-ray or MRI shows and the mechanical reality of your spine. Scans are taken when you are completely unloaded (lying down or standing perfectly still), which fails to demonstrate how your spinal segments behave under the dynamic compression and shear forces of daily life. When symptoms present heavily at L4-L5 or L5-S1, it is often due to a profound loss of physical resilience and deconditioning, rather than a catastrophic structural failure that a scan would immediately highlight. When you take an extended break from physical activity—whether to raise a family, recover from a different setback, or simply due to modern sedentary lifestyles—your lumbopelvic region loses its load-bearing capacity. This deconditioning means that ordinary tasks suddenly overwhelm the weakened ligaments and discs, triggering protective muscle spasms and referred nerve pain. Instead of relying on gimmicks like inversion boots, rigid back braces, or overly complex back extension machines that carry a high risk of worsening your injury, you must focus on structured rehabilitation. By mastering the neutral spine and learning to correctly perform fundamental movements like the hip hinge and squat, you can actively stabilise the injured area, build a muscular shield, and guide your body through a genuine healing programme.Key Topics Covered

This conversation gets heated in the best way. The crew unpacks what it actually means to be the church not a building, not a concert, not a social club but the body of Christ. PF argues that rejecting the church wholesale while claiming to follow Christ is a contradiction, and draws a sharp line between acceptance and tolerance that will challenge both sides of the debate. The episode digs into why church culture has become more about comfort than confrontation with truth, and why that shift is actually hurting people instead of helping them. PF compares the church to a hospital full of sick patients, if someone vomits on you, you don't leave the hospital. You're a patient too.Whether you've been hurt by the church, you're questioning whether you even need to attend, or you're someone in the pews wondering how to correct with grace this episode doesn't let anyone off the hook.TIMESTAMPS:00:00 – Cold Open: "Being a Christian Doesn't Mean You're Full of Christ"00:42 – Introductions & the Viral Video That Started It All02:04 – "God's Chosen Ones Don't Go to Church" Breaking Down the Claim03:30 – What Is the Church? In this episode of Keeping Abreast, Dr. Jenn Simmons sits down with Reed Davis, founder of Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN), for a no-comfort conversation about why so many women are told they're “fine” while they feel anything but.Together, they unpack the lie hiding inside “normal labs,” why diagnosis-chasing keeps you stuck in symptom management, and what Reed calls metabolic chaos - the slow breakdown that happens when chronic stress, inflammation, hormone disruption, digestion issues, and toxic burden stack up for years… until the body finally crashes. They also break down epigenetics (and why family history is not a life sentence), plus what it really means to “change the environment your breasts are living in.”This is a conversation about root cause, medical sovereignty, and the hard truth that health doesn't happen in a doctor's office, it happens at home.In this episode you'll learn:Why “normal labs” can still mean deep dysfunctionThe difference between treating a diagnosis and treating the personWhat “metabolic chaos” is and how it shows up as totally different symptoms in different peopleHow epigenetics works (and how to use it to break family patterns)The FDN framework: HIDDEN stressors + DRESS (Diet, Rest, Exercise, Stress reduction, Supplementation)Why exercise and nutrition have to be individualized (and how the wrong plan backfires)Dr. Jenn's perspective on prophylactic mastectomy and the underestimated cost of breast removal traumaEpisode Timeline:00:00 Why “Normal Lab Results” Don't Mean You're Healthy02:24 Reed Davis' Journey Into Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN)10:12 Root Cause Healing vs Diagnosis-Based Medicine15:39 Why Conventional Medicine Stops at Symptom Management19:06 Metabolic Chaos: How Chronic Stress Disrupts Hormones and Health20:58 Epigenetics Explained: How Environment Overrides Genetics28:01 Prophylactic Mastectomy, Breast Health, and Medical Trauma32:48 The DRESS Protocol: Diet, Stress, and Lifestyle-Based Healing45:48 Medical Freedom, Screening Pressure, and Patient Autonomy54:13 The Future of Healthcare: Prevention, Wellness, and Self-Responsibility1:01:04 What Is a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN)?Learn more about Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN): www.functionaldiagnosticnutrition.comTo talk to a member of Dr. Jenn's team and learn more about working privately with RHMD, visit: https://jennsimmons.simplero.com/page/377266?kuid=327aca17-5135-44cf-9210-c0b77a56e26d&kref=vOKy0sAiorrKTo get your copy of Dr. Jenn's book, The Smart Woman's Guide to Breast Cancer, visit: https://tinyurl.com/SmartWomansBreastCancerGuideTo purchase the auria breast cancer screening test go here https://auria.care/ and use the code DRJENN20 for 20% Off.Connect with Dr. Jenn:Website: https://www.jennsimmonsmd.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrJennSimmonsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/drjennsimmons/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@dr.jennsimmons

Do you need to be fully healed before you can have a healthy relationship? In episode 3 of 4 in the Clarity Series, Sabrina dismantles one of the biggest myths in dating and personal growth: that you must be perfect, secure, or “done healing” before you're worthy of love. Drawing from attachment theory, nervous system regulation, and real-life dating dynamics, she explains why so many people feel fine when they're single but get triggered the moment they start dating and why that doesn't mean you've failed your healing journey . This episode explores the difference between awareness and real change, healing alone versus healing in relationships, and how avoidance can masquerade as self-work. You'll learn what “being ready to date” actually looks like, how to stop hiding behind healing, and how to build self-trust by responding differently when you're triggered. If you struggle with anxious attachment, dating anxiety, relationship patterns, or feeling stuck despite therapy and self-work, this conversation will reframe how you approach dating, growth, and emotional safety moving forward. ❗ Why Default Doesn't Mean You're Divorced | Los Angeles Divorce ⚖️ A LOT of people think that if their spouse doesn't respond to the divorce papers, they're automatically divorced. Wrong. In California, a default just means your spouse didn't file a response—not that the court finalized your divorce. If you don't submit the full judgment packet, you stay legally married… stuck in relationship limbo.
Loneliness is quietly becoming one of the biggest struggles inside the church. Many believers feel isolated, unseen, or disconnected—especially heading into the holiday season. In this episode, I break down why studies are essential for modern medicine-but also why it fails to capture the full reality of your lived experience. If you've ever had “normal labs” but an abnormal life, or you've been told “that doesn't make sense,” this episode is going to make everything click. This isn't anti-science-this is science completed. And it's how we end medical gaslighting one person at a time. Looking to schedule a consultation with Dr. E? Peace Doesn't Mean You're Done Grieving You may have felt it before — that fleeting moment of calm when the tears pause, and suddenly guilt sneaks in. "If I can feel peace, does that mean I'm moving on?" Friend, that moment isn't proof that you're done grieving. It's evidence that God is still holding you. Peace doesn't erase the ache. It walks beside it. And when you allow God to meet you right where the sorrow still lives, you'll begin to see that peace and grief can coexist in the same heart. Inside this episode, you'll discover: The truth about what peace really is (and what it's not) How to recognize peace as a sign of God's faithfulness, not your forgetting Why surrendering control allows peace to deepen and stay The simple way to let peace become a resting place, not a destination If you've been afraid that peace means letting go of your child's memory, this conversation will set your heart free. Press play and let God remind you — peace doesn't mean you're finished grieving. It means He's not finished healing you.
Windermere Coaching Minute: Host: Stevi FanningGuest: Lisa McNally, Windermere Real Estate, RentonIn this episode, you're going to hear from an agent who told me just one year ago "I don't think I'm cut out for real estate." Fast forward to today and she has doubled her income—we are going to share how she did it.What do you do when you're successful in real estate but completely burned out? Lisa McNally shares how she transformed her business in just 12 months—doubling her income while reclaiming her energy and confidence. One year ago, Lisa was ready to leave real estate. Today, she's thriving with a business built around her authentic self rather than who she thought she needed to be.1. Success Doesn't Mean You're Immune to BurnoutLisa had consistent business for 8 years but was exhausted from trying to fit the extroverted agent mold. Being good at your job doesn't mean your systems are sustainable.2. Your Business Plan Should Match Your PersonalityAs an introvert, Lisa was burning out from constant social activities and networking events. She rebuilt her business around being a trusted advisor rather than everyone's best friend—and referrals skyrocketed to 75% of her business.3. Simplify, Don't ComplicateInstead of adding more activities each year, Lisa stripped away everything inauthentic. She focused on what actually worked and what felt natural to her strengths.4. There Are a Million Ways to Be SuccessfulYou don't need to be bubbly or extroverted to thrive in real estate. Every personality type can build a successful business by leaning into their unique strengths.5. It's Never Too Late to RebuildWhether you're new to real estate or decades in, you can always restructure your business to better align with who you are.Identify ONE system, habit, or mindset that isn't working for you. Ask yourself: "What would it look like to do this differently in a way that feels authentic to me?"Connect with Windermere Coaching:Visit windemerecoaching.com or find us on social media @WindemereCoaching

Just Because You Say “No Offense” Doesn't Mean You're Not Offensive We've all heard it — and maybe even said it: “No offense…” before dropping a comment that's, well… offensive. In this episode, we unpack why slapping “no offense” in front of a statement doesn't make it harmless, how it's often used to dodge accountability, and why words matter more than the disclaimers we attach to them. From church small talk to political debates, we explore how this phrase shows up, the damage it can do, and how to replace it with honesty, empathy, and actual respect.

Today's episode is inspired by a question I got from a member of the Movement with Julie community. And I love this question because I know so many of you have probably wondered the exact same thing—especially if you're newer to strength training. Someone asked me whether they should increase weight or reps because they don't always feel sore after working out. Such a good question—and we're breaking it all down today. Because there's a really common belief out there that if you're not sore after your workout, it didn't work. But here's the truth: Soreness does not equal success. What I discuss: 1. Soreness is Triggered by Novelty, Not Necessarily Effectiveness 2. Soreness Reflects Inflammation, Not Muscle Growth 3. Being Sore Doesn't Mean You're Targeting the Right Muscle Effectively 4. The Body Adapts Quickly (And That's a Good Thing!) 5. Chasing Soreness Can Lead to Overtraining, Not Progress 6. Life has a way of throwing curveballs, but resilience isn't about muscling through. It's about learning, adapting, and trusting that you're stronger than you think. In today's episode, we're breaking down what it really means to stay resilient, even when you feel like giving up. We talk about how resilience is built in the small, everyday choices, why challenges aren't a sign of failure but proof that you're growing, and how leaning on faith and community makes all the difference. Because true strength isn't about standing alone, it's about knowing where to lean when things get tough. Do you hear the drum roll? We are on Rule #10 of House Rules by Jacob Hudgins! Today, Kate and Sheila recap… Just Because You're Angry Doesn't Mean You're Right. Jacob starts with Cain, his anger was misinformed and misdirected. God told him, “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at your door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.” Genesis 4:6-7 Cain doesn't listen to God. He kills his brother, seeking a ‘permanent solution for a temporary problem.' Anger clouds our judgment, like alcohol, it lowers our inhibitions. What we are doing feels right and appropriate. Remember the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar, who was filled with fury when 3 Jewish guys dared to defy him? He orders the fiery furnace to be heated seven times hotter than normal, does this make sense? When we are angry we don't seem to notice that our reasoning is impaired. When Jonah was angry at God for saving the people of Nineveh, God asked him, “Do you do well to be angry?” What a great clarifying question! Are you ready for a solution? House Rules refers us to James 1:19-20. The tone of Christian homes should reflect James' powerful advice: Be quick to hear (we must learn to listen) Be slow to speak (anger can often alert us to character weaknesses within ourselves) Be slow to anger (the anger of men does not produce the righteousness of God) Please join us as we strive to keep anger in check! May you be blessed as we grow together striving to please God each day!

You must move out of the comfort zone bubble to grow and accomplish your dreams. The moment you do that, your rate of failure will increase exponentially. The trick is to fail quickly and learn from those failures. Another trick is to learn from other people's failures. We've all heard the adage "Beauty is more than skin deep," but do you believe it? It doesn't take more than five minutes scrolling Instagram or wandering the magazine newsstands to realize that the media—and, by extension, our culture—is saturated with images depicting luscious hair, dewy skin and trim figures. We live in a society that clamors for beauty, and because of that, it's hard to escape our own concerns over our self-image. In this episode, Darlene Brock and Julie Bender sit down with Grit and Grace Life's Managing Editor, Ashley Johnson, to talk about real beauty. Over a decade ago, Ashley was diagnosed with alopecia areata, a disease resulting in hair loss. She discusses how she discovered she had alopecia, her emotional response, the treatments she's pursued and how she's ultimately come to terms with living with a disease that doesn't offer many answers. Despite feeling vulnerable and at one point grappling with the loss of her identity, Ashley shares how her faith helped restore her perception of herself, and how we can avoid disrupting the balance between caring about aesthetics to being obsessed with our image. Hint: It has to a lot to do with searching for the real beauty below the surface—both in ourselves and in others. Don't be fooled by Ashley Johnson's quiet presence. She's an internal processor who just might overthink from time to time. When she's not caught up in her thoughts, she's usually writing them or enjoying the thoughts of others. She's a wife, new mom, and lover of all things pretty. Quote of the episode: “If you look at our world, God created it with beauty. Obviously he cares about aesthetics. I think it's only natural for people who are made like him to care about beauty. But I think, like anything, we can become obsessed with it." —Ashley Johnson Resources Related How to Age Gracefully in a Culture Obsessed with Beauty True Beauty Is Found in a Woman's Strength Just Because She's Pretty Doesn't Mean You're Not Follow Us on Social Media!
