October 5, 2021 - Hour 2 - Duane Steele by The Dave Jamieson Show
Although he has been away from the radio scene for about a decade, Ontario's Aiden McGill has been very active with creating, recording and promoting live entertainment. He spent the past 12 years working with other artists & acts at Studio3A, his own recording oasis. Aiden's passion for creating food took him on an additional path to establish Banjo's Grill, IceCreamville and McGillicafey's Pub & Eatery. "GIILLIES" promotes live comedy, educational, instructional and of course musical acts. Now back on his own musical journey, there is a 12 song project in the works. The first song off this session is Aiden's fifth single to Canadian Country Radio. "Our Own Mexico" co-written by Aiden features Neil Donell (current lead singer for Chicago) providing harmonies. The song is about making the best of staying home while not being able to travel south due to our current Covid fight. Some of the other eleven tunes on the upcoming project recorded at his own Studio3A were penned by songwriters including Tim Taylor, Deric Ruttan, Duane Steele, Jason McCoy & Clayton Bellamy.

This week I had the pleasure of chatting with Duane Steel, when he was in town for the #rednecktourBorn and raised in northern Alberta, Duane Steele grew up listening to and absorbing the music of the rural landscape that included Country music, Folk music, a pinch of Blues and yes, good old Rock n’ Roll. Having a recording career for the past 24 years as a mainstay on the Country Music scene in Canada, including 8 albums and 10 videos 2 albums of which were released through Mercury Records Canada, Duane Steele has always been firmly in touch with where he comes from as a singer, songwriter and musician. In March of 2017 Duane took on a project very near and dear to his heart. The Legend of George Jones is a musical walk through the life and times of arguably the greatest Country Music singer ever, “George Jones”. Recording a live album of favourite songs culled from the show and touring throughout all of 2017-2018 has been an absolute thrill and honour. Duane is currently working on an album of new original material with Producer Louis Sedmak and is looking forward to sharing some new music with his fans in 2019-2020. His brand new single “Blue Collar Palace” written and co-produced with his long-time friend Gord Bamford and featuring Gord as well, goes to Country Radio just days prior to embarking on a multi -city Tour with Gord Bamford and Jess Moskalukes’ “RedNeck Tour”.http://duanesteele.com/https://twitter.com/duanesteelehttps://www.youtube.com/user/duanesteelehttps://www.instagram.com/duane_steele/

Laura Keating has been making music, in some form, all her life - but only recently was able to release her own album, "Let Me Tell You". It’s a really great interview, and I definitely hope you’ll check it out. This Ep: Smorgasbord of Special Guest{s} Luanne Carl, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Brett Kissel, Kevin Bushey Wow! What a whirlwind episode this has turned out to be! In a nutshell: Invited by THE Tera Lee, GA & Mrs. GA hit a private show in Edmonton where Canadian Country Music Icon Carolyn Dawn Johnson rocked the stage with country music luminaries like guitarist Matty McKay, drummer Mark Branconnier, and our special correspondent Luanne Carl from the band Domino [2015 ACMA Awards Band of the Year & Fans' Choice award winners!] not only shared the stage with CDJ that night, but was an eye & ear witness to Meatloaf's collapse in "Capital City" just scant days later. Thanks to old pal Duane Steele, we had All Access Pass [Homer: "All Access"] to a private fundraiser at the World Famous Red Deer Golf & Country club where GA caught up with CCMA & JUNO award winner ... Brent Kysil...wait, what? Who? oh yes, Brett Kissel, his band-mates and a certain Road Manager with a great story and fabulous hair. That would be you Kevin Bushey. Editor's Note: Pretty sure [actually positive] GA screwed up the name of Domino's new record. For the record it's called Ghost and available at dominobandsite.com

Dean Brody's latest album is called Gypsy Road. It’s easily his most winning and original collection of songs, a fact confirmed by the rollicking, sun-drenched first single, ‘Upside Down.’ Fitting for a guy already possessed of a boatload of CCMA and JUNO Awards. “’Upside Down’ as well as the song ‘Monterey’ were written on a ukulele,” Dean explains, adding that the tenderhearted but scorching ‘Love Would Be Enough’ was sketched out on a banjo instead of his usual guitar. “There was a point in my career where it seemed like I had invested what might have been wasted time chasing a dream,” Dean offers with trademark candour. “I saw friends and others my age living the responsible suburban life, 2 cars, a mortgage, retirement savings and vacations days stacking up. And I was spending every dollar on a long shot in a country not my own. I had a small family and at points felt completely irresponsible as a father and husband. Now, we have a home on the ocean. Sometimes I walk the land and sit down by the water and think ‘Wow. This dream actually happened. All those hard and lonely times were worth it.’” 2014 found Riki Knox filling her travel book with trips between Toronto and Nashville, and into Western Canada to lay the groundwork for her forthcoming album in 2015. “I wanted to write songs that really spoke to who I am as both an artist and a person” she explains. Staying true to that statement, she spent time writing with some very notable songwriters, including Willie Mack (Sara Evans, Collin Raye, The Oakridge Boys, Mark Wills), Jason McCoy (The Road Hammers), Duane Steele, Jake Mathews, Patricia Conroy, and Troy Kokol among others. Her latest single is called Beautiful Thing.
Born & raised in the small Alberta Peace Country town of Hines Creek, music found DUANE STEELE early on. He fondly remembers parties at his parents' home with everyone sitting around singing and playing various instruments. As teenagers, Duane and his cousins started a band spending summers and weekends playing for weddings and community dances. In 1984, Duane's professional career began, fronting the band Rock 'N' Horse. Their album Highways was released in 1991. Despite top 20 singles, non stop touring, and a Juno nomination for Country Band of the Year Rock 'N' Horse disbanded in 1993. Duane took this opportunity to pursue his goals as a recording artist and songwriter, landing a publishing contract with Warner Chapel in Nashville. In 1995, a showcase at Canadian Country Music Week in Calgary resulted in his signing a recording contract with Mercury Canada. Duane's solo debut album "PO Box 423" was released in February 1996 and saw his first three singles go Top 5 on the Canadian Country Charts, including the #1 Hit "Anita Got Married". His sophomore release "This Is The Life" was released a year and a half later and all six singles released achieved Top 30 chart position (two becoming Top 10 hits). In support of both albums, Duane released seven music videos on CMT (three of which went to #1). He spent time on the road traveling with his CCMA award-winning band opening for some of the hottest acts in country music including Shania Twain. In 1997, Duane was the winner of the CCMA for Vocal Collaboration of the Year with Lisa Brokop for the single "Two Names On An Overpass". Duane has just released a new album called Dirt & Dreams. Tune in to hear him talk about his music career & the new songs.
RIKI KNOX is a singer, songwriter and entertainer who’s unique sound and genuine lyrics have seen her blazing a new trail in the country music scene. She has a style that is authentically her own. With the term ‘Bro Country’ at its peak, she offers a strong reminder that being “raised country” is a way of life…without gender attachment. “I grew up as one of the guys” she recalls. "Sure, I was happy to sit on the passenger side of the pick up, or on the back of the four wheeler, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t doing my fair share of the driving” She’s a girl who values and appreciates the ‘little things in life’. That grounded mindset has seen her go from playing church and charity events, to sharing the big stage with artists like Dallas Smith, Marc Jordan, and Justin Hines - to name a few. 2014 found Riki filling her travel book with trips between Toronto and Nashville, and into Western Canada to lay the groundwork for her forthcoming album. When satisfied that she had the right songs in hand, she headed back to Nashville armed with the goal of creating great new music that her fans would appreciate and relate to. With Willie Mack at the producers helm, the infectious hooks and lyrics, along with Riki’s energy and unique style, manage to seamlessly blend classic country, country rock, and a new age sound without missing a beat. Riki's new single is called Six Feet Under.
