Super excited to announce new guest, Conrad Fisher, to The Story!Music industry Veteran Matt Lindsey (Mel Tillis, Hal Ketchum) was planning a quiet evening at home when he got a call from his friend, legendary music producer Jim Rooney (John Prine, Nanci Griffith).“He was very insistent that I come down to a show in town,” Lindsey recalls. “He told me he'd found someone he wanted me to hear. He told me he thought this guy had a big future ahead of him. Once again, Rooney was right.”That was the night Lindsey met Conrad Fisher, a young singer / songwriter from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Fisher had come to Nashville to sit in with Rooney and his Irregulars (a stew of acclaimed session guys like Dan Dugmore, Dave Pomeroy along with acclaimed artists like Tim O' Brien, Pat Alger, Shawn Camp and more).“I loved what he did,” says Lindsey. “His music is so natural. I wanted to work with him immediately.”Indeed, FIsher possesses an immediately likable vocal style, is a fine guitar player skills and brought great original songs to the table. Lindsey and his Ashbrook Recordings partner Jeff Gordon (Elizabeth Cook) wanted to get Fisher into the studio as soon as possible. The result is Fisher's new Trouble With A Hammer, a 7–song collection of 5 originals and 2 covers; Tom Petty's “Walls,” and Waylon Jennings' “You Asked Me To.” On his originals, Fisher draws from a deep well of influences like Buck Owens (on the title track), Don Williams (“Old Lonesome Feeling” and “Better Now”), and even The Monkees (“Baby I've Got You”).Fisher provided vocals, keyboard, guitars, harmonic, percussion and kazoo and recorded the project at the famed Nashville recording studio, The Sound Emporium. Other noted musicians joining in were Fred Eltringham (drums, percussion), Russ Pahl (steel guitar/electric guitar), Pete Wasner (piano, Hammond organ, Wurlitzer), Gideon Klein (bass, fiddle) and Beth Fisher (vocals). The Pennyslvania-born singer and songwriter grew up in a Mennonite household where his dad played Johnny Cash records and where the young Fisher learned to love the harmonies of the church he attended. In 2018 Fisher went to Nashville to seek out his songwriting heroes like Roger Cook (“I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing”), Dickey Lee (“She Thinks I Still Care”), Dallas Frazier (“Elvira”), and Bill Anderson (“Tip of my Fingers”), among others.Still based in Pennsylvania, Fisher is an accomplished carpenter and spends time in his workshop building things for his family and friends. You can find Conrad and his projects here:Website: http://conradfishermusic.comYoutube: http://www.youtube.com/conradfisherFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/ConradFisherMusic/Insta: https://www.instagram.com/conradfishermusicFind The Story Podcast here: coryrosenproductions.com/podcastsSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-story/donations

On February 3, 2023, I presented a four-hour edition of the Tasty Brew Music Radio Show, interviewing an array of local, national and international touring artists that were in Kansas City for the annual Folk Alliance International Conference. Next up is Patterson Barrett from Austin, Texas and Beth Bombara from St. Louis. Patterson first came to my attention about 8 years ago at the Folk Alliance Conference as the side man for Songwriter Stephanie Urbina Jones. As you'll hear, we've stayed in touch over the years and I learn something new about Patterson with each visit. During this conversation, he casually drops new information to me that at the age of 17 he played pedal steel, dobro and guitar on Jerry Jeff Walker's rendition of Guy Clark's L.A. Freeway for Walker's first release on MCA Records. He has helped anchor the Buddy Miller House Band during an Americanafest Awards Show at the Ryman Auditorium. I had the privilege of attending those Awards Show for a good number of years and the house band was always on fire! Not long after arriving in Austin, he formed the band Partners In Crime, which included Buddy and Julie Miller, sometimes referred to as Mr. and Mrs. Americana Music….releasing one album on their own label, Criminal Records. In the years since, Patterson produced some of Hal Ketchum's earliest demos, served in Al Kooper's back-up band, and performed before 10,000 festival-goers as Chuck Berry's pianist. He accompanied Nancy Griffith on Austin City Limits, legendary Austin singer Lou Ann Barton in music clubs around the country, and Buddy Miller on his Your Love And Other Lies CD, and more recently, on the Buddy & Jim CD. He has a continuing collaboration with Stephanie Urbina Jones as her accompanist, musical director and producer, including work with her Honky Tonk Mariachi project, appearing on the Grand Ole Opry multiple times. In addition to years of supporting other talented artists in every format imaginable, Barrett has maintained a career as a recording artist in his own right. Around 2015, I was introduced to Beth Bombara through a mutual musical friend, Sky Smeed. Although based in Missouri, Beth has spent much of her adulthood on the road, carving out her own award-winning mix of vintage folk and electric roots-rock. She's been a solo artist, a bandleader, and an occasional side musician for other artists. Her songs live in the same world as greats like Petty and Dylan; Gillian and Joni, and grow up like trees drawing nourishment from their roots music. But she never, ever sounds like the "typical" artist who claims these influences; Bombara to zig where someone else might zag, making harder or gentler turns, brushing up against jazz or taking rock toward its fulfillment.” - The Columbia Tribune It's been my pleasure to include Beth for the last three years now as part of the Heartland Song Network Private Showcase line up. Enjoy these conversations and performances with Patterson Barrett and Beth Bombara in Hour 3 of the Folk Alliance Takeover of the Tasty Brew Music Radio Show.

Tony Arata was born in Savannah, Georgia and grew up on nearby Tybee Island. While studying for a journalism degree from Georgia Southern University, he began performing his original songs in local bands. In 1986, he and wife, Jaymi, moved to Nashville where his unique, soulful style began to get the attention of people like Allen Reynolds and Garth Brooks. Garth to date has recorded seven of Tony's songs, and “The Dance” won song of the year at The Academy of Country Music and received both a Country Music Association and a Grammy nomination, as well as a most performed song in Radio and Records Magazine. He has also had No. 1 records with “Here I Am” for Patty Loveless, “I'm Holding My Own” for Lee Roy Parnell, and “Dreaming with My Eyes Open” for Clay Walker. Other artists who have recorded his songs include Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Trisha Yearwood, Delbert McClinton, Don Williams, Reba McEntire, Suzy Bogguss, and Hal Ketchum. Tony has also done three solo albums featuring new songs, covers, and guest appearances by many of Nashville's finest musicians as well as folks who have recorded his songs, including Garth, Patty, and Lee Roy Parnell. On this episode of A SONG CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE, Tony talks about his hit song “Here I Am” recorded by country superstar Patty Loveless.

Alligators and puppies, Hal Ketchum, hope instead of thankfulness and the power of hot chocolate. It was a delicious week! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The Terror Of Tiny Town". Escuchar audio

This week we welcome Grammy award-winning country star, John Berry! GRAMMY Award-winning country star John Berry celebrates 42 years as a Country music performer. In 2020 Grammy award-winning country star, John Berry took advantage of being off the road. Highlights include partnering with Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt for his weekly series, "Songs and Stories For Kids," which charted multiple times on the Pollstar Live Stream Chart. He released a new video and re-recorded a new single for "The Graduation Song," started his new podcast, Faith Family & Friends and is ending the year with his 24th annual Songs and Stories with John Berry Christmas. In 2019 John Berry celebrated the 28th anniversary since signing his first record deal with his most recent single “The Richest Man” from the new album Thomas Road. In 2019, Berry was diagnosed with throat cancer, requiring 35 treatments combined of radiation and chemotherapy. In 2018 charted at #30 on the Music Row Breakout Charts with the single, “Beautifully Broken,” which is featured in the soundtrack for the movie of the same name. The singer-songwriter rose to stardom on the country charts of the 1990s with such mega hits as Your Love Amazes Me, Standing on the Edge of Goodbye and She’s Taken a Shine. His annual Christmas tours brighten the holidays for thousands, as does his electrifying rendition of O’ Holy Night. During the 90’s and early 2000’s, John placed 20 singles on the country charts, 6 of which went Top 5, with Your Love Amazes Me, scoring a #1 on the Billboard and Radio & Records Country Chart as well as Standing on the Edge of Goodbye and She’s Taken a Shine earning the #1 slot in Radio & Records. He has earned multiple Gold and Platinum records over the years. John was nominated for the ACM Top New Male Vocalist in 1994, won a Grammy Award in 1996 for his participation in Amazing Grace: A Country Salute to Gospel Vol. 1, was nominated for another Grammy in 1995 for his smash hit Your Love Amazes Me and was nominated for the CMA Horizon Award and Top Male Vocalist Award in 1995. In 1997 he was nominated for Vocal Event of the Year (for Long Haired Country Boy with Charlie Daniels and Hal Ketchum) and in 2013 John was nominated for the Mainstream Country Male Artist by the ICM Awards. And thanks to the miracles of modern technology, he even sang a duet with the late, great Patsy Cline. “I love what I do, with a passion not seen in quite some time. I’m hopeful and excited about the future. I love singing and always will. I have a bus, an incredible stage presentation, a great band, hands-on management team and I’m always all dressed up and ready to go.” John’s enduringly powerful performances draw on a lifetime of making music and living life. Born in South Carolina and raised in Georgia, he began playing guitar at 13, performing shows at age 14 and making records at age 19. “By the time I was 17, I knew that music was what I wanted to do with my life”; and he has done it well ever since. Between 1979 and 1990 he recorded and marketed six albums on his own labels. The Graduation Song, which he wrote during his senior year in high school, became a perennial favorite at graduation ceremonies. It appeared on two of his early collections. Those early discs and John’s strong regional popularity attracted attention on Music Row. Capitol Records signed him to his first major label contract in 1992. Berry’s co-written hits A Mind of Her Own and Kiss Me in the Car introduced him to radio audiences in 1993. Then Your Love Amazes Me, What’s in it for Me and You and Only You thrust him to stardom in 1994. Standing on the Edge of Goodbye, I Think About it all the Time, and If I Had Any Pride Left at All were all major hits the following year, with Standing on the Edge of Goodbye earning John the coveted 1995 Grammy nomination. But it was his stunning performance of the title track of the 1995 CD O’ Holy Night that led to his most enduring legacy to date. John began doing special Christmas tours that year and 2016 marks his 20th anniversary holiday concert tour. He has big plans to celebrate and involve the fans like never before for this anniversary celebration. He has also issued three more Christmas-music collections. If O’ Holy Night is all that anyone remembers of me, that’s fine with me,” he comments about his perennial Christmas popularity. “It is a truly inspired piece of music.” Happily, there were more successes to come. The hit Change My Mind earned John a Top-5 spot on the Country music charts in 1996. She’s Taken a Shine became an even bigger hit in 1997. Both fans and the media took note again when There He Goes was released as a 1999 duet with Patsy Cline. In 2002, Berry returned to making records for his own company, Clear Sky Records. Songs and Stories, a double CD was issued that year. In 2003, John Berry released his I Give My Heart collection and its critically applauded wedding anthem Will You Marry Me. The disc also contained his versions of such classic love songs as Time in a Bottle, If, Love Look What You’ve Done to Me, Faithfully, Lady and Let’s Stay Together. I Give My Heart inspired still another popular concert series, The Love Tour. In 2008, Those Were the Days, was released, marking John’s return to mainstream country music. He created his first Christian-music CD in 2011. In 2012, John published the combination book and CD, again titled Songs and Stories. Over the years he has continued to tour steadily. “We just have a great group of fans who welcome us every year. They are always there.” In late 2015 John launched a crowd funded Kickstarter project that proved very successful. Overwhelmed by the fan response, John assembled an all-star studio team and cut both a Country album entitled What I Love the Most and a new album simply titled Christmas and released both in late 2016. Blessed with the ability to make the music he wanted to make (and not what a label dictated) allowed John the time to write and create what many music critics who have heard bits & pieces are saying could be his best, most complete project yet. “I'm excited to have been able to release this new music and bring it to the fans through a new distribution agreement with Sony RED. It’s a new time in the music business and technology allows me to be closer to my fans and interact in new ways. You know, God just keeps blessing me. There are new opportunities coming at every turn.” “With time, I’ve learned that the road to fulfillment is doing what I was called to do, love to do, and then doing it the best I can, regardless of the circumstances. And for me, that is making music and singing for people." 2017 found John touring in several configurations (acoustic solo, acoustic trio and full band) with plans to release another new album followed by the continuation of his legendary Christmas Tour. He and his family moved back to Music City after several years in Georgia, and 2017 saw John pursuing a touring and personal appearance schedule that is more active than ever. Given his wide range of music and number of releases, John is fortunate in that he can book a solo show with just himself and guitar, a small-band acoustic show or a full-band engagement and has more than enough hit material to captivate a crowd and deliver an evening full of musical memories. Also, in August of 2017 John launched a new, weekly internationally syndicated television show entitled Songs and Stories with John Berry that explored the songs and stories that changed the lives of his weekly guest. Superstar guests in Season 1 of the show included Billy Ray Cyrus, Billy Dean, Mo Pitney, Neal McCoy, Suzy Bogguss, Collin Raye, Craig Morgan, Mark Wills, Delbert McClinton, Clay Walker and Lee Roy Parnell. 2018 John celebrated his 25t h anniversary since signing his major label deal, Season 2 of Songs and Stories with John Berry aired multiple times weekly to over 105 million homes across the United States as well as the UK and New Zealand on great networks like Heartland Television, The Family Channel, The Country Channel, Phil Mack’s Keep it Country (UK), Country TV (New Zealand) and AMGTV. In 2018 charted at #30 on the Music Row Breakout Charts with the single, “Beautifully Broken,” which is featured in the soundtrack for the movie of the same name. John also toured the country in all performance sectors, releasing several new projects and a few surprises. 2019 continued to celebrate the 26th anniversary since signing his first record deal with his most recent single “The Richest Man” from the new album Thomas Road. In January 2019 , Berry was diagnosed with throat cancer, requiring 35 treatments combined of radiation and chemotherapy. A benefit concert was held with performers such as Garth Brooks, The Oak Ridge Boys, Vince Gill and over 24 other high profile entertainers from Country, Americana and Rock, raising funds to offset his out of pocket medical expenses, while also donating a significant portion of the proceeds earned to others in the music community in need via Music Health Alliance. 2020 has many as of yet undisclosed plans which will include his annual John Berry Songs and Stories Christmas Tour, marking its 24th year. Stay tuned to all of his activities at www.johnberry.com or via social media

Alberta's Duane Steele is here to chat about his new single Bonfires & Guitars - written with Tim Taylor - which is the title track from his recently released album. Duane also talks about some of his influences, his George Jones tribute show, shares advice on songwriting and takes us back to the late 1990s with a great ballad of his called "The Trouble With Love".
A happy song that's pretty sad, a lot of vocal excellence, mid-baritones, and accents. OK, just one accent, but it's a doozie. We look at 5 O'Clock World, originally by The Vogues, covered by Hal Ketchum, and by The Proclaimers. Outro music is King Of The Road, also by The Proclaimers. Which we may get to on a future episode.

Join me and Chris for a fascinating look into his life on the cusp of the release of his album and his undying passion for Cowboy tradition and the modern cowboy lifestyle. For 2019 Chris is set to release a highly anticipated new album. Chris teamed up with Nashville producer, Trent Willmon, who will be producing the album. Chris wrote or co-wrote 11 of the 12 songs to be included on the album and Willmon co-wrote 8 of the 12 songs. As a songwriter Trent has written many songs that have been cut by other notable artists including Brad Paisley, Eric Church, Little Big Town, Cody Johnson, Blake Shelton, Maddie and Tae, Merle Haggard, Wade Hayes, Randy Houser, Kevin Fowler, Granger Smith, Roger Creager, and many more. Trent also is credited with the Billboard top 5 hit “Keep on Lovin’ You” by Steel Magnolia, and Montgomery Gentry’s #1 hit “Back When I Knew it All.” As a producer Trent has truly shined and is credited in large part for the rise of Nashville’s newest sensation, Cody Johnson. Cody’s Album, “Ain’t Nothin’ to It”, also produced by Willmon reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Country Charts in 2019. Chris was raised in a small town in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Here he developed a love for horses, and everything about the cowboy lifestyle. He was drawn to the old cowboys around town who took him under their wing and taught him about horses. Chris built a love of starting colts and building confidence in young horses. By combining his love for horses and a love for art and photography, Chris started Diehard Cowboy–A company built to share the cowboy lifestyle and his authentic music with others. Chris spends as much time as he can riding horses and starting colts. Chris also works for several ranches to get a reprieve from his regular schedule. You can take a glimpse in this life by following. @Diehardcowboy_ Chris got somewhat of a late start into his music career. Earlier in life the fear of singing in front of other people kept him from getting on stage. Even though Chris never sang in public until he was in college, music was always present. Chris would often write songs while driving, or riding his horses, but singing would only happen around his close friends. Friends soon began to encourage him to sing more and to share his songs. Eventually Chris started writing and recording the songs that he had written but they were only heard by those in his inner circle. A turning point came when Country Musician, Collin Raye, heard a burnt CD of a few of Chris’ songs. Collin asked if Chris would be willing to open an upcoming concert for him. The night of the concert came and Chris faced his fear, took the stage, and sang to a hometown crowd. This was a moment that changed Chris’ life. After encouragement from Collin Raye, Chris set his sights on pursuing his career as a songwriter and performer. It took a lot of work to overcome his fear. Chris spent a full year singing once a week at a local venue with his guitar before he finally felt he could play for a crowd. Eventually Chris was playing for larger audiences in shows across the country. He played during the Houston Rodeo at NRG park, and even packed his guitar to Missouri. In 2017 Chris was selected as a finalist at the Kerrville Songwriting Competition in, Kerrville, Texas. Many past finalists had gone on to become notable performers like, Steve Earl, Tom Russel, Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, Hal Ketchum, and Zane Williams. Anson was playing in clubs around Dallas at age 14, and founded Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets, playing with blues harmonica and vocalist Sam Myers. During his career, he also played with Delbert McClinton, Boz Scaggs, Huey Lewis, Lee Roy Parnell, Hal Ketchum, & The Fabulous Thunderbirds Anson shared some great memories he made playing some of the blues festivals around the states… his experience hanging out with BB King… golf and his torn rotator cuff… the best (and worst) album he ever made (and oddly enough, it was the same album)... and more. PART ONE Scott and Paul give a shout-out to their latest Patreon supporter before revealing their respective Top 5 favorite live albums of all time - a topic suggested by Songcraft listener Bob Hunt! PART TWO - 15:17 mark Scott and Paul call up Gary (with a slightly wonky phone connection) to get the lowdown on how a chance meeting at a French castle led to writing more than two dozen songs with a Beatle; why he thinks growing up on show tunes made him a better country writer; how attending the Woodstock festival changed his life; the poignant true story of his father's death that unexpectedly became a hit song; how he accidentally got Faith Hill a record deal; the Tim McGraw hit he wrote that got shelved for 7 years because his publisher hated it; why he says all songs are love songs; and how he went from country hitmaker to collaborating with Carole King, Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx, Desmond Child, and the American Idol team. ABOUT GARY BURR Gary Burr first found songwriting success when Juice Newton scored a Top 10 pop hit with “Love’s Been a Little Bit Hard on Me.” The floodgates soon opened on a remarkable string of Top 5 country hits, including “That’s My Job” for Conway Twitty, “Watch Me” for Lorrie Morgan, “Sure Love” for Hal Ketchum, “One Night a Day” for Garth Brooks, “I Try to Think About Elvis” for Patty Loveless, “Till You Love Me” for Reba McEntire, “Can’t Be Really Gone” for Tim McGraw, “To Be Loved By You” for Wynonna, “On the Side of Angels” for LeeAnn Rimes, “Out of My Bones” for Randy Travis, and many others. Burr eventually returned to his early pop success, scoring a hit with “Nobody Wants to Be Lonely,” which Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera took to the top of the Latin charts. Additionally, he wrote Kelly Clarkson’s first hit, “Before Your Love,” which was the best-selling single the year it was released. He also wrote Clay Aiken’s “This is the Night,” which hit #1 the following year. Burr has collaborated with Carole King, both as a songwriter and as a member of her touring band. Similarly, he has worked as a backing musician with Ringo Starr and has co-written more than two dozen songs with Ringo that have appeared on the former Beatle’s albums in recent years. Burr and his wife, singer/songwriter Georgia Middleman, are currently in a band with Kenny Loggins called Blue Sky Riders. In addition to those mentioned, Burr’s songs have been recorded by Neil Diamond, Billy Ray Cyrus, Don Williams, Ricky Skaggs, Faith Hill, Lisa Loeb, Keith Urban, Kenny Rogers, Night Ranger, George Jones, Joe Cocker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lady Antebellum, and others. Gary was twice named Songwriter of the Year by the Nashville Songwriters Association, has been named ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year, and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The demonic duo are starting to realize they shouldn't talk about movies they don't like. Spoiler alert, they don't like Hush. Plus, they spoil this whole movie. They probably should stick with 80s horror. The episode opens with a Bob Schneider song. Guns N Roses are up next. Hal Ketchum closes us out this time.

HAL KETCHUMs latest CD Father Time is the ninth album in a distinguished musical career that includes such indelible Top 10 hits as "Small Town Saturday Night," "Past The Point of Rescue," "Hearts Are Gonna Roll" and "Stay Forever." Reared in the village of Greenwich in the gorgeously verdant countryside of upstate New York, Ketchum hails from a family where singing and playing music was part of the daily (and nightly) diet for generations. DAILEY & VINCENT captured an unprecedented seven International Bluegrass Music Awards including the IBMA Entertainers of the Year. Hal ketchum first hit the top of the charts in 1991 with his first single Small Town Saturday Night. For his ninth studio album, Hal wanted to go 'Old School' and record the songs from start to finish on just two tracks; with no technical tricks or slicked up tracks, so what you hear is what was played on his new album, Father Time. Kelly Lynn Caught up with Hal at his release party at BMI.

Conner Smith is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter from Nashville who just released his debut EP "Didn't Go Too Far". Conner joins Country Music Made Me to discuss how a guitar he received at the age of 4 created a love for music and helped him overcome his shyness, how his Mom's career as an entertainment reporter in Nashville influenced his interest in songwriting, and how a trip to the Grand Ole Opry to see Hal Ketchum at the age of 6 inspired his first songwriting experience. Conner and Brendan talk about a very important meeting with Clay Bradley at BMI at the age 9 when Conner signed an entry level deal with the music company, signing his first publishing deal at 16 when he would go to school in the morning, song write in the afternoon, and head to baseball practice in the evening, and the moment he posted a Sam Hunt cover at 17 which led to working with Zach Crowell and signing with Tape Room Music. Conner explains how important the pandemic was in allowing him to find his true sound before releasing his debut EP "Didn't Go Too Far" in 2022, what it was like picking the 6 sings for the album, and what it's like releasing his debut after so many years of working within the industry, even though he's only 21.
