We've got Rocky Block with us for this week's new episode of Stories Behind the Songs! I have known Rocky for years because I was close friends with his father and it's been so cool to watch his career take off, from playing bass on a cruise line to having several top 40 hits, all within just a few years. It seems like Rocky has a writing credit on every hit single and #1 album lately. He's collaborated with some of the biggest names in country music and has too many great cuts to list, but a few highlights include: “Can't Help Myself” by Dean Brody, “Man Made a Bar” by Morgan Wallen and Eric Church, “Cowgirls” by Morgan Wallen and Ernest, “Broadway Girls” by Morgan and Lil Durk, “Whiskey Bent” by Cody Johnson and Jelly Roll and other cuts such as “Hammer to the Heart” with Teddy Swims who he says is not only a “generational talent” but also just a super nice guy. In this episode, we also cover his collaborations with Larry Fleet and Ashley Gorley, signing with Big Loud Publishing, writing “Jupiter” with Georgia Webster, being a fan of the artists he's in the writer's rooms with, and finding inspiration with new co-writers. He also gives us a quick performance of “Cowgirls”, and as always, we get to hear the story behind it - the idea for this one came from the TV show, Yellowstone! If you enjoyed this episode, make sure to share it with your friends and give us a follow. We are passionate about sharing the Stories Behind the Songs and getting to know the songwriters behind the stories, and it's because of listeners like YOU that we are able to continue doing it. And thanks to our sponsors for all that you do for us! We appreciate you! More on our sponsors and other links below... Federal politicians are calling on Taylor Swift to bring The Eras Tour to Canada. On Wednesday, Alberta MP Matt Jeneroux filed a just-for-fun “official grievance” with the House of Commons “on behalf of all Swifties in Canada” over the pop superstar's apparent snub. Nearly 100 people were injured Wednesday night in a hail storm ahead of a Louis Tomlinson concert in Morrison, Colorado. Dean Brody will be honoured at September's CCMA Awards with the Gary Slaight Music Humanitarian Award, it was announced Thursday. Original Articles by John R. Growing up in Ajax, Ontario, Kris Barclay got his first guitar for Christmas when he was thirteen years old and would sing along to his favorite Country songs when nobody was around. Fast forward, and Kris has opened for such artists as Brett Kissel, The Washboard Union, The Road Hammers, Gord Bamford and Dean Brody. In 2019, Kris was nominated in the Rising Star category for the Country Music Awards of Ontario. At the 2018 Boots and Hearts Music Festival, Kris was voted by fans as the wildcard entry into the Emerging Artist Showcase, allowing him to compete against six other artists in front of a jury of country music artists and industry execs. Kris went on to become the first ever wildcard artist to win the showcase, earning him a spot on the mainstage to close the weekend's festival, and a trip to Nashville to write with some of Country music's top songwriters. Also, part of the win was a recording deal with Warner Music Canada, which saw the release of his debut single "Loved You Like That" which has garnered over 1.5 million streams to date. Off stage, Kris has been raising funds for mental health and PTSD in the Veteran and First Responder community. Partnering with Wounded Warriors Canada, Kris was able to raise four thousand dollars in 2020 for their programs. The new single from Kris is called "More Than Whiskey" written by Meghan Patrick, Aaron Goodvin & Skip Black. Kris recently opened up a few shows for Meghan.

Country music singer-songwriter Kelly Prescott has officially released her single “Trailer Trashed” on all DSPs. The playful track has already earned the soulful artist a coveted spot as a finalist at SiriusXM's Top of the Country. She will hit the stage as part of the Top of the Country showcase on November 26th at the 2021 Canadian Country Music Awards Week. Fans can watch the video for “Trailer Trashed” here, and stream and download it here. Of “Trailer Trashed,” Kelly says “It's been a really tough year and a half and the last thing I wanted to do was write more sad music. I'm a big fan of tongue in cheek country and challenging gender norms. Women don't usually sneak too many cheesy pickup lines in a song so we thought it would be funny to do so.” The release of this track marks the first at Kelly's new home of Warner Music Canada. “Kelly's an incredible songwriter who has a remarkable musical lineage. She has such an impressive voice, and I've long been inspired by her unbridled ‘say-anything' lyrical style," says Ron Lopata, Vice President of A&R for Warner Music Canada. In addition to the release of “Trailer Trashed,” Kelly has announced that she will be joining Alan Doyle on a slate of tour dates this fall. The shows run from November 9 through to November 28, and will bring Kelly through Halifax, Ottawa, London and Toronto to name just a few. See below for the full listing, or visit kellyprescottmusic.com for tickets. Kelly Prescott comes by her music in the most honest way possible, as a third generation singer/songwriter on both sides of her family. Kelly and her family made their Grand Ole Opry debut as guests of Terri Clark in 2018. The past year has been a whirlwind for singer-songwriter Kelly Prescott since the release of her acclaimed EP “Love Wins.” The self-penned six song collection draws straight from her own heart, and just earned Prescott her first ever CCMA Award nomination for “Roots Album of the Year” and two CMAO nominations for “Album of the Year” and “Roots Artist of the Year.” She has toured all over North America with such acts as Alan Doyle, Kyle Cook (Matchbox 20) Terri Clark, Dallas Smith, Jim Cuddy, Colin James, Dean Brody, her former band The Claytones and performing as Emmylou Harris in the theatrical production of Grievous Angel: The Legend of Gram Parsons.

It was like a Cher farewell tour: never-ending! Jeremy Bradley signed off of the radio after 15 years hosting his syndicated show, Top of The Charts. In the lead up, many celebrity guests called to wish JB well as he left mainstream broadcasting. Some of them were surprise appearances and others just wanted to be part of the fun. Music legend (and fellow Manitoban), Tom Cochrane called in to talk about the first time he met JB. It was on the red carpet at Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto. Country star, Dean Brody, called to chat about his latest music and the time he and JB had an interview in Dean's dressing room before a concert. Plus, Leeza Gibbons reminisced with JB about her time as a radio host and how the broadcast world has changed since both got their respective starts. TV host, Ben Mulroney, was a regular guest on the radio with JB. He called in as one final surprise. And in a rare move, JB chatted with a politician on the air. NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh, discussed pop culture, sports and Canada with JB. It's a Super-Sized Scribble as Jeremy Bradley says goodbye to radio... on the podcast!

Born and raised in Welland, Ont., Randy Owen began his radio career at his hometown radio station, 1470 CHOW, which happened to be a country station and began his official role in the country music industry. In 40 years of broadcasting, he's stopped at stations in Kitchener, Mississauga, Brantford and Tillsonburg, including a 3-year stint as host of the Pelmorex Radio Network's nationally syndicated request show "Cryin', Lovin' or Leavin'." In 1988, he was awarded the Country Personality of the Year awards from both the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) and the RPM Big Country Awards - the only person to win both national awards the same year. Owen has developed a reputation as a skilled interviewer having interviewed such country music greats as Garth Brooks, Brett Kissel, Johnny Cash, Dean Brody, Shania Twain, George Jones, and many, many more artists. He is currently determining the next path his career will take.
