This episode is brought to you by: GRUBBED https://grubbed.com There is an authenticity and truthfulness to the music of Drew Gregory that is undeniable. The songs of this award-winning Alberta country music sensation are infused with a down-home realism, a gritty honesty, and vibrant sense of rootedness that comes from years spent working the land as a farmer – an aspect of his life that is deeply connected to his talent as a musician, singer, and songwriter. Gregory, the singer, is also Gregory the farmer – two sides of the same engaging, unpretentious, amiable coin, solidly rooted in the landscape and soil of his rural homestead. The music is as approachable as he is, which also translates on stage as he forms an instant rapport with any audience he performs to. Growing up in the small rural community of Standard, Alberta (population around 350), Gregory was exposed to music through local radio and from his dad's extensive classic rock vinyl collection. He soon came to appreciate the country and rock sounds that flowed through the family home. By the time he was 15, he had acquired his first guitar, and from the first strum of the strings, he knew that making music would be a big part of his life. Evidence of Gregory's status as a country music artist on the rise is the numerous accolades that he has thus far garnered in his career. Drew recently brought home the "Horizon Male Artist of the Year" Award from Country Music Alberta in March of 2022. This is Drew's third win in this category, having won the honour in 2015 and 2019 as well. He also received Country Music Alberta's Horizon Song of the Year in 2019 for Better in A Bar, a song he penned with long-time co-writer Aaron Goodvin, and Country Music Alberta's Horizon Album of the Year for his album I Was There in 2016. Drew was recently named one of the Top 3 artists in the Project Wild Development Program in Alberta after a six-month-long journey of education and development. At the finale, held at The King Eddy in Calgary, he was awarded $50,000. Over his burgeoning career, he has shared the stage and opened concert and festival dates for Miranda Lambert, Kip Moore, Old Dominion, John Michael Montgomery, Big & Rich, Emerson Drive, and Chad Brownlee, among others. Drew feeds off and reciprocates the energy of a crowd better than any and has plenty of experience on stage for large and smaller audiences. Past festivals include The Big Valley Jamboree (both Main Stage and Molson Stage), Bud Country Fever, Country Thunder in Calgary and Arizona, and Dauphin Country Fest. Drew made his debut appearance on the Nashville North stage during the 2015 Calgary Stampede and has been a staple every year since. His performances at clubs, rodeos, and festivals tend to draw large crowds after years of being a reliable high-energy show. Even though he's a small-town farm kid at heart, he is more at home on stage than anywhere else. Learn more about Drew Gregory at: http://www.drewgregorymusic.com/

Mixing the old with the new, The Prairie States was born out of a desire to put a fresh touch on a classic design. As seven time Country Music Alberta Award recipients, including the 2018 Rising Star, 2019 Horizon Group/Duo Of The Year, and 2020 Songwriters Of The Year, as well as 1st place in the 2018 Project Wild Artist Development Program, it's proof that this Edmonton based band is moving in the right direction. Mat Cardinal, Jeff Dick, Mike Nash, Doc deGroot, and Jay Der formed The Prairie States in 2017 and immediately started writing songs for their full length album, Lost In The Right Direction. Independently released in June 2018, it was nominated for the CMAB Album Of The Year and included three radio singles, which all broke the top 100 Mediabase Canadian Country Chart. Since then, the band has released two more singles, Every Little Town and Low Life, both of which also cracked the top 100. To go along with the release of Low Life, the band teamed up with Edmonton based Sea Change Brewing Co to create a custo m branded beer called Low Life Lager. The brewery made 17000 tall boys of this perfect summer sipper which included a Spotify QR code so the person enjoying the beverage could also “Scan The Can” to instantly hear Low Life. Their latest single, High That I'm Riding, produced by Juno and CCMA winner Bart McKay, is a euphoric Country rocker that gallops headfirst towards the indescribable feelings that only the one you love can ignite inside you. The Prairie States have been out on the road and wowing crowds with their undeniable live show. In their short time as a band, they've shared stages with Aaron Goodvin, Clayton Bellamy, and most recently Brothers Osborne and Canadian legend Charlie Major while kicking off the 2019 Big Valley Jamboree. Ready with a stack of brand new recordings underway with Bart McKay, this band shows no signs of slowing down. Our personal thoughts for you today: If you're feeling lonely, imagine being alone in the forest for 40 years. THEN you'd be really lonely. Not today.....not on this day.
AARON GOODVIN was born and raised in Northern Alberta where he was surrounded by a large musical family. Not surprisingly, his love of “everything music” developed at an early age and he made his first stage appearance at age 11. He was hooked the minute his feet hit the stage and has never looked back. Over the next 15 years, Aaron began writing his own songs and utilized every opportunity to perform them in front of a live audience. In Canada, Aaron has had 40 artist cuts, 20 of which have been singles. In 2003, at age 18, Aaron caught the attention of a couple of industry professionals, who encouraged him to start co-writing in Nashville. After years of travelling back and forth, he decided to call Nashville home in October of 2010. Fast forward 3 years to February 2013, he signed a long-term publishing contract with the music industry powerhouse Warner Chappell Music. Upon signing the deal, he landed 3 cuts including Out Like That on Luke Bryan's album Crash My Party. Other current co-writes out there are Carolina Eyes recorded by Scotty McCreery for his See You Tonight album, Dozen Roses And A Six Pack recorded by Cole Swindell for his self-titled album, and Always Tonight recorded by Saskatchewan's WYATT for their album Shoulda Been Here Last Night. Aaron's versatility and passion for writing and performing is second to none. Aaron has a natural ability to light up a stage, connect with his audience, and deliver a show-stopping performance, whether it's a small intimate gathering or a crowd of thousands.
Aaron Goodvin is an award winning Country Music singer/songwriter. Aaron joins Country Music Made Me to discuss his early love of music, how competing in local singing competitions as a youngster helped him develop as a singer and a performer, and how his love of music turned into a career after high school. Aaron and Brendan talk about what it's like for a Canadian to move to Nashville, how difficult it can be to overcome the "lows" of the industry, and celebrating the small victories that eventually lead to big success. Aaron explains the never quite mindset that has helped lead him to two #1 songs in Canada and the moment he finally saw success south of the border thanks to Bobby Bones. Finally, Aaron talks about his new EP Lucky Stars and what the future holds. Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
