Jon & I met as interns at Dubway Studios in NYC. His recent work includes running mix rigs for film composer John Powell. Let’s face it – when it comes to Israel, everything is complicated. Politics are complicated, religion is complicated, democracy is complicated, the conflict is complicated. Even our complications are complicated. These are the things that take us out to the street. That make us shout, and cry. That fill us with hope, and – just as often – plunge us into utter despair. But there is (seemingly) one island within Israeli society that escapes complexity, and brings us together more than it divides us: Israeli music. Or so, at least, we thought. In this special mini-series, we set out to explore Israeli society – warts, rifts and fuzzy togetherness alike – through the stories of some of the country’s most iconic tunes. The original music in this mini-series was composed, arranged and performed by the Mixtape Band, led by Ari Wenig and Dotan Moshanov, together with Ruth Danon, Eden Djamchid and Ronnie Wagner-Schmidt. The final song is a 1950s Tunisian rendition of HaTikvah sung by M. Cohen. The episode was recorded by Russell Castiglione and Josh Piel at the Dubway Studios in New York, and mixed by Sela Waisblum. Working Class Audio Session #108 with Chris Montgomery!!! Chris Montgomery is an audio engineer and producer living and working in New York City. Having grown up in Glasgow, Scotland, he brings a musical heritage from one of the most prolific and diverse music scenes and applies this to his work in studio, live and field audio production. From live sound at The Bitter End to studio work and location sound at Dubway Studios, Chris digs in and tries it all.  Chris has worked with many notable artists including The Lumineers, Mumford And Sons, The Killers, Florence And The Machine, Ed Sheeran, Sheryl Crow and Damien Rice.  Having recently finished an 18 month period touring with multi-platinum recording artist, Rachel Platten, Chris is now focusing on a move to Los Angeles with the intention of opening a new studio. Chris talks with Matt about his decision to move from Glasgow, Half & Half, having a willingness to say yes to work and his new console.   

Seth Granger Episode 21 Listen HERE Welcome back to Nothing Shines Like Dirt Empowering Actors to Create episode 21. Elise and Lesley sit down with production audio expert Seth Granger to discuss sound for filmmaking. They dive into the nuances of sound equipment, making a sound budget and the unwritten rule of the triangle theory of filmmaking. Seth has been a freelance location sound monkey for film, television, and commercials since 1997, but he does not yet feel as old as that sentence sounds. In 2012 he partnered with the awesome and talented folks at Dubway Studios, allowing it to collectively be a one-stop-shop for any audio need - from location to post to live to studio.
