Philip (Philipchurch.com) and Novo discuss They Might Be Giant's album "Flood" - a colossus of monumental proportions - focusing on its history, the unique songwriting approach and instrumentation, how John & John's innovations were ahead of their time and how in a lot of ways they still very much are, its legacy and influence, and why the album is such a testament that there are "no bad ideas," so go ahead and put everything on the table, including the weird, strange, and eccentric, but most importantly, that prosthetic forehead.Thank you for listening. Please consider supporting us with a donation - @novodeproductions on paypal here.Support our colleagues at:Philipchurch.comAlexandra-parsons.comCheck out more at www.novodeproductions.com, follow us @_novo_de, @aotb.podcast, @aotbpodcast, and if you'd like to be on the show, you can contact us at novodeproductions@gmail.com.This Episode is also brought to you by:Novel "Til the Bitter [End]emic" - Available now on Amazon. Scripture Reading: 2 Samuel 18 When David gave way to his lust for Bathsheba and his pride to cover his act through murder, there were some things he had not considered, namely the long term consequences of sin. Sinning against the living God is a more serious matter than we usually think it is and the dark effects of sin are both sure and destructive. David's sin had terrible effects that he had not considered in the passions of his heart. First, his sin had an effect on God's name. “. . . by this deed you have given occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme . . .” (2 Sam 12:14). Second, his sin had an effect on others: Bathsheba, Uriah, Amnon, Tamar, Absalom. God told David of these results when He said, “Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife” (2 Sam 12:10). Third, David's sin had a long term, destructive effect on himself. In 2 Samuel 18 we see David in utter anguish and sorrow over the death of his son Absalom, 12 years after his sin with Bathsheba. “O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son! . . . And the king covered his face and cried out with a loud voice, "O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!" (2 Sam 18:33; 19:4). Let us take to heart the stern warnings in the Bible concerning sin's consequences. “He who sows iniquity will reap vanity” (Prov 22:8). “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap” (Gal 6:7).
Peter Aguero isn't just a performer—he's a presence. Known for his emotionally charged, wildly entertaining, and deeply human stories, Peter has become one of the most beloved voices in the storytelling world. A longtime host and GrandSLAM champion with The Moth, Peter's work explores grief, rage, love, redemption, and the quiet moments that define who we are. In this episode, we sit down with Peter to trace the creative arc of his life—from growing up in South Jersey and leaving football behind, to traveling the country with Chicago City Limits, and eventually becoming a core figure in The Moth's rise to cultural prominence. Along the way, we explore why storytelling isn't just communication—it's how we make sense of being human. Peter's story intersects with some of the greats, including his longtime friendship with creative musician and experimental educator Dave Gould, who introduced him at a transformative moment in Iowa City. Together, their work reminds us that story is not just scientific—it's deeply experiential. It's memory. It's identity. It's the way we heal, connect, and lead. We also revisit some of Peter's most memorable performances, including: “You're Not Alone” (The Moth Mainstage, Metropolitan Museum of Art) — a heartbreaking and healing story about Christmas with his mother “The Italian Ice Fight” — a wild, true tale about a summer job that ended with a hammer, a fight, and a lesson in fear Daddy Issues (his one-man show) — a raw, theatrical journey through masculinity, shame, and survival Appearances on Conan and in venues like the Bitter End, Highline Ballroom, and under-the-radar NYC gems like Under St. Mark's In this episode, you'll learn: + How vulnerability builds creative credibility + Why your real voice is more powerful than your polished one + How to structure stories that resonate emotionally—without overproducing + What brands and leaders can learn from live storytelling and audience honesty + How to tell stories that invite recognition, not just applause Whether you're leading a brand, creating a presentation, or trying to inspire others—this episode is a reminder that the most unforgettable stories are the ones that don't try too hard. They just tell the truth.

80 years ago, on 8 May 1945, Nazi Germany capitulated, bringing the Second World War in Europe to an end. Although a large part of France was no longer occupied, there were still "pockets" of German resistance in several northern towns. Dunkirk, best known as the site of the remarkable evacuation of British and French troops in the spring of 1940, was one of them. In ruins, the town was liberated the day after the capitulation, the German soldiers having been ordered to hold out until the end.

Matthew 10:21-23 “When people realize it is the living God you are presenting and not some idol that makes them feel good, they are going to turn on you, even people in your own family. There is a great irony here: proclaiming so much love, experiencing so much hate! But don't quit. Don't cave in. It is all well worth it in the end. It is not success you are after in such times but survival. Be survivors! Before you've run out of options, the Son of Man will have arrived. Jesus has some incredible advice for His Disciples and it's just as meaningful for us!Verses 24-39 - be pleased when you get the same treatment I do, don't be intimidated, don't be silent because of threats, stand up for ME, don't think I came to make like easy, and forget about yourself and look to Me! Don't forget to take a look at the entire chapter because Jesus also shares some great advice from verses 1-20 as well.

Benny Harrison Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson What fun to sit down and catch up with keyboardist, singer, songwriter, producer, Benny Harrison, who I've known for 5 decades. There was so much I didn't know. Benny gave us the back story––growing up mixed race from hard-working parents who may or may not have been on the wrong side of the law, but who taught him strong work ethics and appreciated immediately and encouraged his musical gifts. When his brother sold his piano, Benny turned lemons into lemonade, practicing at a local school which garnered him his first professional gig with Henry Gross, which led him to sing onstage with Michael McDonald. When I met up with him, he was sitting in with Mason Reese, and then Phoebe Snow sat in with Benny and The Spydrs. A kickass player and entertainer, Benny was in regular rotation at all the clubs I booked back in the day. Benny tells a great story about a night at Spo-Dee-O-Dee's and a couple of huge surprise special guests. Benny has played with Vernon Reid; Corey Glover; Joe Walsh; Elvis Costello; Simon Kirke; and Charlie Drayton, among many others and for four years his Spydrs were the house band at The China Club's famed Monday nights where Bruce Willis, Rick James, Steve Stevens, Linda Perry, Eddie Vedder, Billy Idol, and whoever was in town, would sit in with the band. We talked with mutual zeal of our love for the place, those nights, that time. Benny has been active with Veterans who are either suffering from PTSD, alcohol, drug abuse, or homelessness, in a program called Voices of Valor. It's a 9-week process to write a song with the Vets who have served our country. He produces and creates the musical/harmonic part of the process, and then takes the Vets into a recording studio, where they can experience the process. He shared a most moving sweet story of a silent woman's transformation. Working on an upcoming Documentary, Back Up Front, it tells the story of players including him who started out in front, worked the backline and are once again stepping out front. Benny's upcoming album, Pages, drops April 14th. He had planned to perform a couple of the tunes with his producer, Mike Ciro, but that didn't pan out. He treated us to a few little tastes with an unmiked guitar. A few tech challenges, but as with all things Benny went with it, eventually singing a capella. He's a pro!
