A sermon by Bishop Talbert W. Swan, II on Official Day at the 81st Holy Convocation of the Vermont Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, Church of God in Christ
Show notes provided by Joe PelusoGathered from the four corners of the cosmos are assembled the world's four greatest podcasters! James! Chris! Richie! and Joe!, banded together to bring you the BIG Fourth Anniversary Episode! of The Secret Origins of Mint Condition!!"! (Cue the theme from The Super-Friends) Dusting off Sherman's and Mr. Peabody's Way-Back Machine, the guys revisit the GREAT Batman v Superman debate from an era when Mint Condition had four walls. To say that this special episode dives deeply into the various eras of the two most iconic fictional characters in all of comics would be a gross understatement of epic proportions! Suffice it to say that this "return" shines new lights and perceptions on who exactly are Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent. So much is discussed and disseminated in this episode, that itwould be a crime to reveal the contents and spoil your listeningenjoyment. And while the verbal repartee is measured and respectful, there are a few surprises contained herein that may shock and surprise. And as we now enter year five, I know I speak for all the MintFaithful in publicly thanking James Louie for the creation of thiswonderful digital forum that has kept the spirit of Mint Condition Comics alive. Whoever thought that comic books and CBM's, Star Trek and Star Wars, Magic The Gathering and Pokemon, science fiction and fantasy--and yes--baseball and hockey could engender a universe worth of conversations that would ultimately spark into creation a loving family of friends who always dared to dream? Thanks, James.

Central to the conversation is the theme of unfinished business, a notion that echoes throughout the narrative of 'The Best Man: Unfinished Business.' Lee and Allen explore the idea that relationships, much like stories, are never truly complete; rather, they evolve and transform over time. Their dialogue touches upon the complexities of love and the importance of personal agency, particularly in the context of female characters such as Jordan and Robin, who embody resilience and strength. The authors discuss the societal expectations placed upon women, contrasting these with the rich inner lives they have crafted for their characters. In this reflective space, the audience is encouraged to consider their own narratives of love, loss, and reconciliation, making the discussion as much about personal reflection as it is about literary analysis. Ultimately, this conversation serves as a testament to the enduring power of storytelling, as Lee and Allen invite listeners to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery alongside the characters they have come to love.Takeaways: The podcast celebrates the book launch of The Best Man: Unfinished Business, highlighting its themes of love, friendship, and personal growth. Jayne Allen discusses her collaboration with Malcolm D. Lee, emphasizing the importance of diverse perspectives in storytelling. Malcolm D. Lee reflects on the transition from screenwriting to novel writing, appreciating the freedom to explore characters' inner thoughts. The conversation reveals how both authors aimed to portray complex characters whose journeys resonate with real-life experiences in relationships. Listeners gain insight into the creative process behind the book, including the challenges and triumphs of collaborative writing. The episode underscores the significance of representation in literature, particularly for African American narratives and the experiences of Black women. With RED LIGHT PROPERTIES: Unfinished Business (Kinjin Storylab), writer/cartoonist Dan Goldman brings us a wildly entertaining graphic novel of midlife, the afterlife, and the south Florida real estate market. We talk about how the concept for RLP grabbed hold of him 20+ years back & never let go, why the story had to take place in/around Miami, how his work in video games and TV/movies affected his world-building in comics. We get into the peak life experiences of making this book, the transition from digital to print, why he set the book in landscape, the role of the "invisible" elements of comics design, the impact Scott McCloud's Reinventing Comics had on him, why the next season of Red Light Properties — Gut Renovations — will be "singles, not albums," how it felt to work with Kickstarter and control every aspect of Unfinished Business' design & production, all while reveling in our shared comic loves. We also discuss turning 50, whether cocaine is ever a good story device, his sensitivity to hauntings, why he needs to quit comics every so often, the effect The Invisibles had on him (esp. Grant Morrison's letter columns), the paradox of choice and the joy of the analog-hunt, his prose writing and why he tells stories that are 83% true, and plenty more. Most people are either rehashing the past or obsessing over the future - never living in the present moment. The result? Walking around with major incompletions that keep us from connection, creativity, and wholeness. Carrying unfinished conversations, unspoken words, unresolved feelings, and unfelt experiences. And that robs us of something precious…all the incredible things we could be creating right now! Completion isn't about perfection or checking every box. It's the deep, often uncomfortable practice of letting go of past regrets, imagined futures, buried emotions, and the need to control what can't be controlled. When we learn how to complete and release, we create space for what's trying to emerge right now, and that's where the richest experience can be found. Why is it so hard to live in the present moment? How do we detach from the past and the future? In this episode, Gay Hendricks returns to talk about one of life's most powerful skills: knowing how and when to let go. We discuss how to complete things and why that makes room for essence, energy, presence, and genius. Things You'll Learn In This Episode -Why we stay in the past (or worry about the future) What's really behind our resistance to being in the present moment? Why are the past and future safe distractions from the wild creativity of now? -The hidden cost of incompletions How do unspoken feelings, unfinished business, and mental replays block our ability to manifest new ideas, deepen relationships, and feel fully alive? -The 10-second sweaty conversation that changes everything What's the one unarguable sentence that can complete years of stuck emotion, tension, or confusion in a relationship, in just seconds? Guest Bio Gay Hendricks has served for more than 30 years as one of the major contributors to the fields of relationship transformation and bodymind therapies. Along with his wife, Dr. Kate Hendricks, Gay is the author of many bestsellers, including Conscious Loving, At The Speed Of Life, The Big Leap, and the New York Times bestseller, Five Wishes. Dr. Hendricks received his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Stanford in 1974. After a twenty-one-year career as a professor at the University of Colorado, he founded The Hendricks Institute and later co-founded its charitable organization, Foundation for Conscious Living. He was also the founder of a virtual learning center for transformation and a publishing company, and was a co-founder of a conscious entertainment company. Throughout his career he has done executive coaching with more than 800 executives, including the top management at such firms as Dell Computer, Hewlett-Packard, Motorola and KLM. His book, The Corporate Mystic, is used widely to train management in combining business skills and personal development tools. Gay is also a mystery novelist, with a series of five books featuring the Tibetan-Buddhist private detective, Tenzing Norbu. In recent years, he has co-created a popular podcast called The Big Leap with Gay Hendricks and Mike Koenigs. When I sat down with Caelyn Caulfield, I knew this conversation would hit home for so many coaches, parents, and athletes. As a varsity basketball head coach and future school counselor, she's bringing the grief recovery tools she's learned into the gym, the classroom, and her everyday life with students. What stood out most to me is how intentional she is about giving her team space to process emotions—not just run plays. Too often, coaches and parents expect kids to "shake it off" or hide their feelings when they miss a shot, lose a game, or face personal struggles. But as Caelyn shared, those unresolved emotions don't disappear—they follow kids into the next practice, the classroom, and even into adulthood. By creating weekly team meetings that focus on themes like trust, she's building stronger athletes and healthier young women who know it's okay to feel and process life as it comes. This episode is a call to action for every coach, teacher, and parent: emotions aren't a distraction from the game—they're the foundation of growth. Whether you're on the field, in the dugout, or at home cheering in the stands, we all have a responsibility to model emotional health for the next generation. I think you'll walk away from this conversation inspired to lead with more compassion and intentionality—on and off the court. DateAugust 10, 2025SynopsisIn this sermon, we wrestle with that universal ache of unfinished business—from summer bucket lists to life's deeper longings. Drawing from personal experience and the ancient wisdom of Hebrews 11, we discover something liberating: faith isn't about checking off every box, but about trusting God in the midst of our incompleteness. Through the story of Abraham and Sarah, we learn that the divine often shows up not in our achievements, but in life's ordinary, unpolished moments—transforming our "undone" into holy ground where grace and humanity meet. Send us a textLast week, I shared some strange urban legends with you about Florida. I left off sharing two things, first, Florida has more than its share of cryptids! And second, my daughter that got me curious about the spooky side of this state, told me an urban legend you've got to hear. Let's get into it!Florida CryptidsIf you were to attend some supernatural trivia night at the local pub, then I've no doubt if asked what the most famous Florida cryptid was, you'd know the answer. Skunk Ape. Cousin to Sasquatch, this guy is said smell really ripe. I found an interesting story about the Skunk Ape in a book titled, Freaky Florida written by Mark Muncy and Kari Schultz. Find links to purchase it in the show notes. I hope it sets the senses into the swampy, humid Florida landscape.Mark Muncy writes; "Look at any map of Florida and you will see a very large block in the middle of the state with no major roads. The largest area stretches from Lakeland to the north beyond Leesburg. This empty area once saw rival railroads trying to reach Tampa Bay. It once housed numerous little towns and homesteads trying to make their way in teh early Florida land booms." From the passage of time, the swamp is reclaiming the last vestiges of man's attempts to colonize the area. Now in state control, it's called the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve.Show Sources and MaterialsFreaky Florida, Mark Muncy and Kari SchultzWampus Cat Legend and Lore, WBIR - 10 NewsThe Child-Eating Wampus Cat, Atlas ObscuraMahaba, the giant crocodile, Cryptid Archives FandomExploring the Florida Everglades' Weird Folklore: Myths and Legends of the United States, T's Storytime, YouTubeThe Trident-Tailed Water Monster of Florida, source: East TennesseanSicklefin Devil Ray of Florida, MarineMegafauna.org, Jessica PateSea Monster Museum in Iceland, Atlas ObscuraI don't accept sponsors and paid advertisers. At 17, she thought she was just getting revenge on an aging relative who tormented her. What she didn't realize was that her actions—however impulsive—would come back to haunt her, literally. After her grandfather passed away, strange and terrifying events began to unfold: visions, sleep paralysis, footsteps paired with the unmistakable sound of a cane, and the feeling of being watched. 92%ers welcome back another episode of New Heights, brought to you by our friends at General Mills's Favorite Cereal Brands! We've got an incredible episode to wrap up season 3! First, we welcome back Adam Sandler to talk all things Happy Gilmore 2, how Travis' scenes with Bad Bunny turned out, Big Ed's cameo, and the origins of the iconic Happy Gilmore swing.Next, we check in with Travis and how he's feeling going into his 13 training camp at St. Joe's, attempt to explain what the hell is going on with the NFLPA's corporate credit card, take a look at some fan mentions about Jason lawn art, the Jets Jake Tattoo, and caffeinated cupcakes. And we're not even close to done yet because we finally give our long-awaited review of the 1990 classic “Pretty Woman.” See if Jason and Travis think the film holds up, what they thought of Julia Roberts' Oscar-nominated performance, and who was the sneaky MVP of the movie. Finally, we have an incredible conversation with #1 draft pick, Heisman winner, and starting QB for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baker Mayfield! We get into everything from why he thinks the Bucs have some unfinished business heading into this season, his early days as a walk-on QB, his iconic duel against Mahomes in 2016, the importance of being a “football house guy,” how he started a game for the Rams in less than 48 hours, shit talking strategies, relationship with Mike Evans, being a girl dad, getting welcome to the NFL by Fletcher Cox, and more! And that wraps up season 3 of New Heights! What if the things we sideline in the pursuit of success—care, connection, and personal struggles—are what could actually lead us to clarity and purpose? In a culture that celebrates achievement and autonomy, have we overlooked the connective tissue that quietly holds our lives and systems together? Could personal transformation also be the key to transforming how we lead, live, and rebuild the world around us?Find out from Anne-Marie Slaughter, exclusively in conversation with Dr. Hitendra Wadhwa on Intersections Podcast.Anne-Marie Slaughter is a global leader, educator, foreign policy expert, public intellectual and the CEO of New America, a “think and action tank” dedicated to realizing the promise of America in an era of rapid technological and social change. In 2009, Hillary Clinton appointed her as the first woman Director of Policy Planning in the U.S. State Department. She has been a professor at University of Chicago Law School, Harvard Law School and Princeton University, and has written and lectured widely on very relevant topics, including global network design and leadership, gender equality and elevating the value of care for both men and women, and on American renewal. Anne-Marie is a regular columnist for Project Syndicate, a contributing editor to the Financial Times, appears regularly on CNN, BBC, NPR, and PBS, and author of several books including The Idea that Is America, Unfinished Business, and Renewal: From Crisis to Transformation in Our Lives, Work, and Politics. In this episode, Anne-Marie reveals:- How stepping away from power may bring unexpected clarity about who we are and our purpose in the world- Why caregiving—long dismissed as peripheral—may hold more influence than we've been taught to believe- A deeper path of renewal that can reshape not only individuals but also the systems within which we live and lead
