What does it really take to challenge the status quo in healthcare, and win? Dr. Imamu "Mu" Tomlinson, CEO of Vituity and author of Less Than One Percent: How Disruptors Defy the Odds, joins host Eric Glazer to share hard-won lessons on leadership, resilience, and breaking barriers. In this energizing conversation, Mu discusses: How to turn "you can't" into the fuel that drives innovation. Why being disagreeable, optimistic, and relentless are the core traits of true disruptors. Lessons healthcare can borrow from sports icons like Steph Curry and leaders in entertainment. Why moments of victory - not defeat - are the best opportunities to spark lasting change. You'll come away with a fresh perspective on leadership, culture, and how to build teams that defy expectations and achieve more. About Dr. Imamu (Mu) Tomlinson: Imamu Tomlinson, MD, MBA, is the Chief Executive Officer at Vituity, a physician-led and -owned multispecialty partnership. With decades of clinical leadership and practice management experience, Dr. Tomlinson brings deep operational and clinical knowledge to foster Vituity's mission to be at the heart of better care. In his role, Dr. Tomlinson oversees Vituity's 500+ communities, focusing on clinical and cultural integration, and strategies that improve patient satisfaction and drive operational efficiency. Since his appointment as CEO in 2017, Vituity has doubled its footprint. Additionally, during his tenure, Dr. Tomlinson formalized two disciplines within Vituity to support improved patient care: an innovation team, including the appointment of the organization's first Chief Innovation Officer, and a community impact initiative. He also champions physician engagement initiatives, including fellowship programs and innovation grants, to further empower Vituity's healthcare providers to deliver exceptional care and collaborate across the care continuum. Prior to Vituity, Dr. Tomlinson was the Chief of Staff for the Adventist Health Central Valley Network, where he continues to practice as an emergency physician. He previously served as Medical Director for Adventist Health's Hanford and Selma Emergency Departments. At Adventist Health, he spearheaded an effort to create the network's Department of Emergency and Diagnostic Medicine and later served as the department's chair.  Outside of his work at Vituity, Dr. Tomlinson is devoted to making a difference in his local community through the 24/7 Foundation, which works with kids in the Central Valley Youth to inspire mental toughness, athletic competition, and resilience through basketball.  Dr. Tomlinson is the author of Less Than One Percent: How Disruptors Defy the Odds. In this book, he thoughtfully explores the lives of those who dare to defy the odds and disrupt a world of contradictions. Through vivid narratives and deep insights, he reveals powerful strategies for challenging the status quo and driving transformative change.  Order your copy today. Dasha presses Johnson on why voters remain unhappy with the economy despite Republican promises, whether rising gas prices and the conflict with Iran could derail the GOP's midterm hopes, and why he believes Republicans can overcome decades of history working against the president's party. Dasha asks Johnson about his relationship with President Trump – questioning whether he ever tells the president "no" and why Senate Majority Leader John Thune appears more willing to publicly push back. Every Broken Promise to Yourself Is Still on the Ledger with Lester Clowes

The Mind Of George Show

Over a million words. Unfinished manuscripts abandoned across an entire lifetime. His daughters called him a writer. His wife called him a writer. He didn't believe it himself. That gap, between who others see you as and who you see yourself as, is where Lester Clowes built an entire coaching practice. And this episode is the most honest version of that work, out loud. Dr. Lester Clowes is the founder of Defy the Average and author of Stop Lying to Yourself, a framework-first book on promised debt, identity, and what it takes to finally start believing your own word again. In this wide-ranging conversation, he and George go deep on motivation porn, the default vs. directional identity, and why embarrassingly small promises beat massive Sunday-night overhauls every time. What You'll Learn In This Episode: What promised debt is and how deep in the red most people actually are Why motivation porn is the drug of choice for smart, ambitious people The difference between your default identity and your directional identity Why productivity without identity work just makes you a more efficient broken person The "so what" script for breaking out of the justified victim loop How to start embarrassingly small and why that's the fastest path forward The beliefs, values, and protocol framework for building the identity of your choosing Key Takeaways: ✔️Every broken promise to yourself is still on the ledger. Most people are so deep in the red they've stopped believing their own word entirely. ✔️Motivation porn gives you the dopamine hit of action without the action. If you feel productive while consuming, you're probably addicted. ✔️A more efficient system with a broken identity just makes a more efficient broken person. ✔️Your default identity doesn't have to win, it just has to delay long enough that the directional identity doesn't. ✔️The "so what" script: I'm right, the circumstances were real, so what? That question breaks the justified victim loop. ✔️Start embarrassingly small. When you've racked up massive promised debt, the smallest micro-commitment feels like a miracle. ✔️A flat tire is not a reason to slash the other three. One broken promise is data, not a verdict. ✔️What you have right now is a perfect reflection of who you are today. That's not judgment, that's a starting point. Timestamps & Highlights: [00:00] — A million abandoned words and the moment everything had to change [01:28] — The opening question: what would your life look like if you stopped lying to yourself? [04:04] — What becomes possible when you start keeping promises to yourself [09:27] — Motivation porn: the drug of choice for smart, ambitious people [14:52] — The common roadblocks: productivity trap, overcomplication, changing everything at once [16:55] — Promised debt defined and what Sunday-night overhauls actually cost you [20:25] — Getting real about where you are: the Google Maps problem [25:00] — Decision debt, the house-hunting case study, and how we avoid the real problem [30:00] — Starting embarrassingly small and the promise debt ledger exercise [31:38] — The "so what" script for breaking the victim loop [33:00] — Default vs. directional identity: beliefs, values, and protocol explained [36:00] — Limiting beliefs: just a story that doesn't have your greater good at heart [45:00] — The identity split and why dissonance is the real driver of self-sabotage [58:00] — Caught vs. taught beliefs and how to challenge them [1:10:00] — The owner's manual: why we never look inside ourselves [1:16:49] — Where to find the book, the free quiz, and how to connect with Lester [1:18:35] — Tattoo wisdom: what you have right now is a perfect reflection of who you are Connect with Dr. Lester Clowes  Performance and life coach, founder of Defy the Average, and author of Stop Lying to Yourself. The S&P 500 has once again proven why emotional investing rarely pays off. After briefly breaking below the 50-day moving average and triggering bearish headlines, the market quickly reversed, reclaimed key technical levels, and is now back within striking distance of new all-time highs. In today's Before the Bell, we examine why this prolonged consolidation continues to frustrate investors, what the latest earnings from Palantir, Microsoft, Amazon, and chip stocks could mean for the AI trade, and why a new momentum buy signal may be close to triggering. We also discuss the seasonal headwinds of August and September, elevated oil prices, fading summer trading volume, and the improving earnings outlook that continues to support stock prices. Is this finally the breakout investors have been waiting for, or just another head fake inside a frustrating trading range? Why is it so hard to say "no" even when we know we should? Most of us believe we'd stand up for our values in difficult moments, yet research shows we often choose compliance over conviction. In this episode, we'll explore the fascinating psychology behind why we say yes when we mean no, why authority and social pressure are so powerful, and how understanding your values can help you make decisions you'll be proud of long after the moment has passed. QUOTES FROM DR. BRAY "In every workplace, home, and classroom, defiance is the exception and obedience is the rule. But it doesn't have to be that way." "That discomfort is the key to our power to defy. It shows up as tension in the back of your neck, a headache, a stomach cramp, general uneasiness. It's an internal compass guiding us back to our values." "Learning to say no isn't just about courage. It's about preparation."   Sunita Sah, DEFY, The Power of No in a World That Demands Yes Sunita Sah, Psychology Today, January/February 2025 Issue If you need to speak with someone about sexual harassment, abuse, or any related topic, please call 1-800-656-HOPE or Text Hope to 64673.  This is a free service operated in the US by RAINN to provide hope and healing.

Deacon uses the movie as a lens to examine how stories shape a civilization's soul, why myths matter more than mere fiction, and why Christians and lovers of the Western tradition must resist the slow leftward drift of endless compromise.SCHEDULEJuly 28, 2026 - Holy Eros: An exploration of eros in Plato, the Bible, and Christian thoughtAugust 4, 2026 - Plato's HipparchusAugust 11, 2026 - Plato's LoversAugust 18, 2026 - Plato's Hippias MinorAugust 25, 2026 - Plato's IonSeptember 1, 2026 - Enduring Chill by Flannery O'ConnorSeptember 8, 2026 - Red Shadows by Robert E. Join Jim and Greg for the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch as they discuss a new Michigan poll exposing a stark demographic divide in the progressive movement, more and more House Democrats to block security assistance to Israel, a partisan double standard from Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, and whether Daylight Saving Time should be made permanent.First, Jim and Greg dive into a Michigan U.S. Senate primary poll showing far-left candidate Abdul El-Sayed dominating among college-educated whites while Rep. Haley Stevens leads with Black and working-class voters. They analyze the irony of a socialist movement failing to win over the actual working class, noting that far-left progressivism remains largely confined to college campus bubbles.Next, they react to a House vote where half of Democrats joined GOP Rep. Thomas Massie in trying to block more than $3 billion in security aid to Israel. Jim and Greg argue that abandoning a key ally undermines American foreign policy, with Jim warning that congressional hostility has crossed from anti-Zionism into outright antisemitism. Then, Jim and Greg call out Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse for suggesting that domestic abuse allegations should be treated with skepticism if the victim is a Republican. He's also dead wrong in his efforts to dismiss the conservative accuser of Graham Platner. Jim and Greg blast the remarks as a grotesque new low for partisan tribalism. Finally, they close with a highly skeptical look at a House-passed bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent. Jim and Greg dismiss the change as a bad idea that's already a proven failure. We're talking about the Antikythera mechanism – that 2,100-year-old lump of corroded bronze gears pulled from a shipwreck off Greece. Mainstream eggheads call it the world's first analog computer. They say clever Greeks built it to track the Sun, Moon, eclipses, and Olympic games. Nice story. But here's the thing they don't want you asking: Why does this thing exist at all? Why was technology this advanced lost for over a thousand years? Why the sudden technological dark age? And why, every time someone starts connecting the dots to aliens, time travel, Atlantis, or straight-up government suppression… the conversation gets shut down? We then turn to Cuba's sudden market reforms, the collapse of Cuba's external support, Venezuela, China, Vietnam, North Korea, and why so many Western leftists turn foreign regimes into fantasy objects of anti-imperialist spectatorship. In The Backroom, this week's bonus discussion is split into two exclusive episodes. In the first, Ben and I have a cordial debate about the narrative of the so-called Epstein regime, Israel, conspiracy thinking, and whether there is a rational kernel of truth in some conspiratorial interpretations of politics. In the second, we continue into elite theory, scapegoating, and why elites may not actually be as powerful, coordinated, or all-controlling as people often imagine.Timestamps:0:00 The Backroom Preview: “The Elites” Aren't That Smart 3:43 The Iran Peace Deal, Israel, Cuba6:13 A Massive L For the USA and  Israel? 14:11 Regime Change Fail & Trump's Midterm chances22:10 Israel Doesn't Control the USA30:36 Can the U.S. Discipline Israel?39:33 The Necessity of a One State Solution 43:03 Did Israel Drag America In the War?50:17 Lebanon & the Iran Deal's Weak Spot1:02:02 The Islamabad Accords1:11:04 Cuba's Market Reform Shock1:25:22 The Truth about Cuban Socialism 1:34:32 Anti-Imperialism & Spectator Politics1:39:36 Conspiracies & Elite Theory1:44:51 “The Epstein Regime” Narrative (The Backroom Transition)GUESTBenjamin StudebakerPolitical theorist and author of Legitimacy in Liberal DemocraciesSubstack: https://substack.com/@bmstudebakerX/Twitter: https://x.com/BMStudebakerWebsite: https://benjaminstudebaker.com/Buy Legitimacy in Liberal Democracies: https://edinburghuniversitypress.com/book-legitimacy-in-liberal-democracies.htmlAffordable paperback now available for $24.95.FOLLOW 1DIMEX: https://x.com/1DimeOfficialInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/tonyof1dime/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@1DimeeMy Substack: https://1dimereview.substack.com/Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/OneDime#IranDeal #IsraelIranWar #USIsraelRelationsMake sure to like, comment, subscribe, and hit the bell for more 1Dime Radio episodes on politics, philosophy, history, economics, and geopolitics.

In a shocking display of courage, a group of Christian baseball players are standing up for their faith in the face of intense pressure from the LGBTQ community. This episode delves into the story of the San Francisco Giants players who refused to wear Pride Night hats with Bible verses on them, and the backlash they faced from Major League Baseball. The speaker discusses how the LGBTQ community's push for inclusivity is actually a form of intolerance, where individuals are forced to comply with their ideology. This is not about acceptance, but about imposing one's beliefs on others. The speaker highlights the importance of standing up for one's faith and values, even in the face of adversity. The episode explores the story of the San Francisco Giants players who were warned by Major League Baseball for wearing Bible verses on their hats during Pride Night. The speaker also touches on the broader implications of this issue, including the MLB's history of pushing progressive ideologies on its players. From allowing BLM patches to moving the All-Star Game, the speaker argues that the league is promoting a certain worldview. In 1985, a Russian cosmonaut watched a spinning wing nut flip 180° every few seconds in zero gravity—behavior that seemed to defy normal physics. This Dzhanibekov Effect (or Tennis Racket Theorem) remained secret for years because scientists at the time had no clear explanation. That's just the beginning. As humans explore deeper into space, we keep uncovering bizarre truths about space-time itself. By some measurements, time literally runs slower closer to Earth and speeds up the farther you move away from its gravity. The more we study spacetime, the more it appears to change our everyday understanding of reality. Data Centers: The legendary environmental activist Erin Brockovich is now leading the pushback against massive AI data centers. She's launching a nationwide map to track community complaints. Meanwhile, some Big Tech voices are blaming Chinese Communist Party propaganda for the growing American resistance. Simultaneously, a company backed by Nvidia is offering to pay homeowners to host mini data centers right next to their houses—in exchange for discounted electricity and internet. Psychologists Off The Clock: A Psychology Podcast About The Science And Practice Of Living Well

When a survivor speaks up, the world too often demands a 'perfect victim' before it offers belief, a painful reality that leaves many wondering if their truth will ever be enough. In this episode with Deborah Tuerkheimer, author of Credible: Why We Doubt Accusers and Protect Abusers, we hear about the “credibility complex,” including credibility discount and credibility inflation, rape myths, the “perfect victim” and “monster abuser” archetypes, and how victim-blaming and disbelief are reinforced by culture and legal rules. You'll also learn about underreporting, the “second assault,” trauma-informed investigation, expert testimony on trauma dynamics, and how loved ones can respond supportively when someone discloses abuse. Listen in to understand why credibility judgments are patterned and how believing, validating, and offering help can change what happens next. Listen and Learn: The credibility complex and how social power dynamics cause the credibility of marginalized individuals to be discounted while powerful individuals receive an inflated boostWhy society perpetuates rape myths and victim-blaming How the "perfect victim" myth is weaponized against survivors in the legal system How institutional disbelief and victim-blaming are systemic realities baked into the penal codeWhy cultural tropes and a deep-seated "care gap" cause society to minimize astronomical statistics, overstate the prevalence of false reports, and prioritize the futures of perpetrators over the lives of victims How the cultural myth of the "monster abuser" prevents fair credibility judgments by creating a false archetype of a deviant stranger How the justice system creates an institutional imbalance by weaponizing an accuser's personal history while shielding a perpetrator's past behavior How physical attractiveness acts as a "Goldilocks" trap for victims' credibilityWhy true progress relies on upending a systemic culture of impunity rather than relying solely on institutional training Resources: Credible: Why We Doubt Accusers and Protect Abusers https://bookshop.org/a/30734/9780063002760Deborah's Website: https://www.deborahtuerkheimer.comAbout Deborah TuerkheimerDeborah Tuerkheimer is a professor at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. Is the GOP Starting to Defy Trump?

For most of his second term, Donald Trump has successfully conveyed the message that defiance is not an option. Republicans who ignored that message generally wound up out of office, so they largely toed the line. Lately, though, that seems to be changing.  Republicans recently pushed back against the president's proposed “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” and the administration ultimately scrapped it. Trump asked for nearly $1 billion in security funding for his ballroom, and Senate Republicans forced him to abandon that plan as well. Perhaps most stunning, some House Republicans this week broke ranks to rebuke Trump's war in Iran, directing him to withdraw U.S. forces or win approval from Congress. The seeds of mutiny are detectable. But also the president still has the strength and support to suppress them. So who is willing to take the risk, and who isn't?  On this week's “Radio Atlantic”: Indiana State Senator Jim Buck, a pro-Trump Republican who did not vote for his state's redistricting plan and faced an onslaught of what he calls “lies” and threats as a result; also the Atlantic staff writer Russell Berman on the dueling forces of Trump's revenge campaign and growing party defiance. - - - Get more from your favorite Atlantic voices when you subscribe.
