In today's episode of Cow Daily with Mike Cow, we delve deep into the undercurrents of the rave scene, uncovering unsettling connections to far-right elements. Join us as we explore the ties between influential artists like Ellis Dee, Slipmatt, Danny Rampling, and more, and HOPE Sussex, an organisation with links to the far-right BNP in the UK. Our conversation extends beyond the surface, addressing the foundational principles of the rave scene and questioning its openness. We shine a light on the inherent ableism in both the scene and society at large, highlighting the serious risks faced by individuals with clinical vulnerabilities who aspire to participate. Discover the uncomfortable truth about individuals like Katie Hopkins, a far-right influencer sharing the same platform as people who previously represented "peace and love" like Slipmatt. We unravel how their version of freedom becomes exclusionary, rendering the scene far from inclusive for people with disabilities. 92′ Hardcore mix including tracks by New Atlantic, Ellis Dee, 4 Hero, Mystery Man and more…
Converted an old stone tablet, I mean Mini-Disk from Carbon. I never played main there, so this has to be from the old Red Room, or VIP. If it is the time I think it is, I played old school and hiphop earlier in the night. Ahhh Memory loss ;) It is faster breaks and trance'ish with Tenth Chapter, Ease Drop, Eat Static, Ellis Dee, Tony Faline, Vincent De Moor, and Humate...you get the drift. With that last track, I can only assume I closed...I clearly gave up mashing that Boston Bruins break into it ;)
Sherrod and Keren try to sterilize everything in the room except the conversation during the coronavirus outbreak and are joined by Eli Sairs, Lindsey Jenningz, Ellis Dee, and Abby Rosenquist as they discuss everything shutting down in the virus hysteria, whether the coronavirus is everything it's cracked up to be, and Lindsey goes on a rant against diet culture. For those who didn't check out part 1 yet, I strongly suggest you do so first! Part 2 picks up in 1991 and heads eagerly into 1992 with the legendary story of Ellis Dee. We went behind the scenes of raves, preparing for sets, why Rhythm Section called it a day and so much more.... get stuck in! The legend that is Ellis Dee needs little introduction, a staple part of the Hardcore era as a top billing DJ, and one-quarter of the seminal rave act Rhythm Section along with his groundbreaking solo releases. Roy's (Ellis Dee) contribution to starting, shaping and pushing the scene is integral to how we know it today. On a personal level, I've seen Roy DJ countless times and he was one of 4 DJs (along with Slipmatt, Ratty & Randall) I followed, admired and was inspired by since I first saw him grace the decks at Elevation in 1992. If you think you know Ellis Dee, think again! So we all know the raves he played, the tunes he made, but do we know the man himself? Let's put it this way, I've been fortunate to know Roy since around 2003 and I probably know about 5% of what we covered in this interview! Roy's roots go way back, with rich and exciting stories of how he first DJ'd for someone's wedding at 14 years old, ran his own sound system, played on Sunrise FM and started one of the early Acid House parties - and this was all before 1991. I decided to split this into 2 parts as there's a lot to unfold with Roy's history and I don't want you to miss a beat. In the next part, we'll be digging deep into 1992 onwards to continue the Ellis Dee story. Went all in on this show researching the sets from all the DJs, building the tracks and playlist, grabbing samples of the mighty MC GQ from the tapes and even got DJ Hype, Slipmatt and Ellis Dee to send me an audio clip of their greatest memory from that night to play on the show! This is a must show for every World Dance fan! TRACK LIST: http://wearehardcore.uk/episode/world-dance-5th-november-1994-tribute-show/
