In this episode of “In Stride,” Sinead is joined by world class eventing grooms Erin Jarboe and Hailey Burlock. Erin Jarboe and Hailey Burlock have worked as head grooms for Will Coleman for multiple years and travel across the world caring for top horses like Off the Record and Chin Tonic HS. Erin Jarboe grew up in Athens, Georgia, where she began riding at 8 and started eventing at 15. While in high school, Erin competed on her own horse and worked as the barn manager for Dublin Downs Eventing. Erin graduated from the University of Georgia with an undergraduate degree in animal science, where she was on the UGA Eventing Team for four years and president of the team for two years. Join Erin, Hailey, and Sinead in this exciting conversation about working as a high-performance eventing groom.
Hitting Your Stride -- The Equestrian Elements Life Coaching podcast with Tracey Mitchell
How often do you conduct a walk-around at your barn or farm? Do you know the rules when it comes to paying employees who work for an equestrian-based business? Are you up-to-date on all the waivers, safety regulations and tax implications that go along with running your business? These are just a small sample of questions that Catherine Willson posed to Tracey on this episode of Hitting Your Stride. Catherine has been a practicing lawyer since 1989 and has just published her first book on equine law -- Canadian Equine Law: A Guide For Anyone Working With Horses In Canada (the first equine law book published in Canada). She joined the podcast to talk about that, her long-standing passion for horses, and how she balances all of her many interests with a very busy schedule. Catherine publishes extensively in HorseSport Magazine and other industry publications on issues of equine law. She has given conferences across Canada on the subject for Equine Canada, the Ontario Equestrian Federation, the American Association for Justice, various horse and racing associations, and the Jockey Club of Canada. Her clients come from many horse-related industries, and she advises on contracts, syndicates, litigation, disputes, and tax issues related to horses. Her book is available through Self-Counsel Press as well as Amazon. With the book, she has published a number of equine legal documents, such as purchase and sale agreements, boarding, breeding agreements and more that can be purchased separately and used by the industry. Anyone wanting to reach out to Catherine can do so by visiting her law firm's website at www.truelawlegal.ca and by emailing her at catherine@truelaw.legal.

The Coronavirus pandemic has already hit the equestrian world hard. We don't know how long the virus will stop events or what long term effect it will have on our industry. Social media is filled with misinformation so to try and get the facts, Adam has 3 guests on this special edition of Under the Saddle. Barb Blasko - Associate Clinical Professor, Emergency Medicine (USA)Nicola Schaible - Accident and Emergency Doctor (UK) Emily Sandler - Equine specialist and FEI Vet
Daniel Coyle went from being an unknown boy from Ireland to a real contender on the world stage. He tells us about his journey, how he is severely dyslexic and much more!
In this edition, Adam is in Canada and hosting a live on-stage version of Under the Saddle in front of a Toronto Audience. It seems only fitting that his guest should be Canadian show jumping legend Eric Lamaze. Nothing was off the table as the conversation moves from Eric's start in the sport to the personal challenges he has faced and the inspirational way he is dealing with cancer as he prepares for the Tokyo Olympics. Oh and yes, we find out if Eric is single!
In this episode, I speak with Gillian Sutherland - a very accomplished rider who has an incredible knowledge of horsemanship from over 30 years of teaching all the way to the Grand Prix level. Gillian's success includes being a World Cup finalist and competing in the Pan Am trials. Gillian was consistently short-listed and a carded rider for Equine Canada for many years and had repeatedly represented Canada internationally, also spending time as a certified judge. Gillian's approach is always about the well being of the horse and encouraging and guiding her students to be independent with the mindset of a trainer. In this episode we discuss: --> How Gillian came back from a very difficult injury --> Why she loves coaching and educating her students --> How she got to be a Grand Prix rider coming from a middle-class non-horsey family. Alright we're back at it with another fantastic interview for you which comes by way of a man named Dirk Stroda as he discusses the 4 A's to Peak Performance . A very interesting man that has been working with high performance athletes for quite some time. Dirk begins talking about he actually started working with individuals through their physical performance and later realized 'the mind follows the body'. He wanted to reach his clients on a different level, he wanted to help them push past the physical limitations which he believes (and now teaches) begins with the mind. From Olympians to Business owners, Dirk's approach to wellness is certainly what I'd call holistic as he focuses on the heart as he explains what he calls the 4 A's which include Attitude, Awareness, Authenticity and Allowing. Who is Dirk? Dirk Stroda is the High Performance Mental Coach for Equine Canada. He coaches the Canadian Dressage, the Para Dressage and the Eventing Team on the Road2Rio, the 2016 Rio Olympic Summer Games. He is also the ‘go-to’ Mental Coach for many Olympians, World Champions and NHL Pro’s and Public Figures. He is one of the most sought after speaker of his kind and has traveled the world speaking in front of thousands at various conferences and symposiums. Stroda is a frequent writer for the Huffington Post and other international magazines. His athletes and Teams participated successfully at 11 different Olympic Summer and Winter Games, multiple World Championships, PanAm Games and countless National Championships. Stroda lives with his family in Kelowna, BC. www.dirkstroda.com Show Notes: Attitude this begins in the morning, start with high energy change the way you think about the day don't fight against what you aren't able to control - you lose energy this way line up with 'what is' fake it if you must Awareness talk about your emotions how do you feel start with yourself - do inner work get in touch with your own feelings, this will help you have a better understand of 'self awareness' Authenticity David Hawkins 'the mind is totally unreliable' the HEART is the first organ that develops (not the brain) the heat actually opens brain activity think about the heart first, accept, don't fight Allowing ego pushes and forces, let things come more naturally it takes more energy to resist do your homework, follow the first 3 'A's' and allowing will come naturally How do I deal with my toxic environment? don't connect yourself with the toxic environment understand you can't change those around you stay within yourself protect yourself stay connected with your core values become a part of the solution you have the power to create your own reality ask yourself 'what is the solution' Thanks you so much for your interest in this show of Exploring Mind and Body, if you haven't done so already please take a moment and leave a quick rating and review of the show in iTunes by clicking below. As a Level 2 Equine Canada sanctioned coach, respected clinician and Level II Technical Delegate, Linda Hauck strives to ensure that both horse and rider, whether amateur or expert, are safe and comfortable within their abilities and having fun. Linda Hauck was not content to live with the fact that horses were uncomfortable with the regular spur. Nor was Linda prepared to stand by and watch girthy horses suffer under saddle. Linda also made some revisions to the neck strap ensuring that all riders both professional and amateur had an attractive safety strap while at a show, or hacking out. Linda acted on her ideas and invented solutions for the spur, neckstrap and girth. Listen to Linda's interview as she tells her story of her inventions: the Spursauder, and the her new Tapestry Comfort Girth.
