This episode of Bioethics in the Margins features a panel of bioethicists: Danielle Pacia of The Hastings Center, Sana Baban of UMass Chan Medical School, J. Wesley Boyd of Harvard Medical School, and Ryan Dougherty of Kaiser Permanente. They are the co-authors of a national survey exploring the role of social justice in their field, published in the American Journal of Bioethics: Empirical Bioethics. In this conversation, the authors discuss their key findings on what social justice obligations bioethicists feel they have, the concept of "social bioethics," and the duty of the field to address systemic injustice. We start by defining the term "social justice" and discussing how it relates to the four principles of bioethics. We spend some time unpacking the methods of the study including strengths and limitations. The main finding - that >80% of bioethicists surveyed believe that social justice should be part of their work - is contextualized by exploring how social justice can add information and objectivity to our work. The episode ends with some reflections by the authors on how we can move forward in the field with these important tools.Work cited in this episode: Pacia DM, Baban SS, Fletcher FE, Mithani Aziz Z, Cooper JF, Boyd JW, Dougherty RJ. In this highly relevant Animalweb podcast, Dr David Marlin is joined by Animalweb's independent bit and bridle fitting expert Emma Busk to unpack the introduction of the new FEI noseband gauge, now in use on the international competition circuit. Together, they explore what the measure means in practice, why it has been introduced, and how riders, stewards, and horse owners are reacting to it.Emma, who has worked with both the FEI and ISES gauges, shares her practical experience using the new tool and highlights some of the challenges around consistency, fit, and application across different types of nosebands and horse sizes. She and David discuss whether the gauge goes far enough in protecting horse welfare, and what more could be done.Beyond the gauge, they delve into the broader topic of bit and bridle fitting, exploring why it matters, its impact on performance, and how to assess fit both in the stable and under saddle. Emma emphasises that every horse is different and that correct fit can't be judged by looks alone. They touch on the importance of collaboration between vets, dentists, physios and fitters, and how past trauma or pain can affect a horse's response to tack. The episode closes with some top tips for checking noseband fit and an honest conversation about pressures in the competition world, rider habits, and the myths around stronger bits.READ Emma's blog - Noseband Tightness in International Sport ----To find out more about becoming a member >>> AskAnimalweb.comNot a Member? This episode of In Stride is presented by The Eventing Series by Natalie Keller Reinert and Flatiron Books. You can find The Eventing Series books in paperback, ebook, and audiobook wherever books are sold. Follow Natalie Keller Reinert on Instagram at @NatalieKReinert. In this episode of “In Stride,” Sinead is joined by international 5* event rider Sally Cousins. Sally Cousins is an accomplished FEI 5* international event rider and was the USEA Leading Lady Rider for six consecutive years (2008–2013). She began riding as a young child after her family purchased a farm in Oxford, Pennsylvania, and quickly found her passion through Pony Club and the sport of eventing. By her mid-teens, Sally had completed her first one-star three-day event, and at just 20 years old, she traveled to England to compete at the prestigious Badminton Horse Trials. She remained in the UK that year and went on to complete the Burghley Horse Trials later that season. In addition to her riding career, Sally spent 16 years working as a stockbroker at Merrill Lynch before deciding to turn professional and commit fully to eventing. Today, she operates Sally Cousins Eventing, training horses and riders out of her bases in South Carolina and Pennsylvania. In this episode, Sally reflects on the choices and philosophies that have shaped her decades-long career in eventing, including: • How being strategic about which events she entered helped her horses stay sound and competitive for longer. • Why she's never hesitated to withdraw a horse at the last minute if they weren't ready, prioritizing their well-being over competition goals. • What led her to leave a successful 16-year career as a stockbroker to pursue horses full-time. • The importance of building a trusting relationship with each horse and following her gut when deciding whether to push forward or hold back. Join Sally and Sinead in this thoughtful conversation about longevity, horsemanship, and the mindset behind a sustainable career in the sport.
This week, Karen and Robby get to know Eventer Katie Sisk. Katie lives in the Midwest where she runs her own veterinarian practice called Kaydence Sports Medicine and Rehab, competes at the 2* level and is a mom of twin 16 month old boys. Katie talks about how she is able to juggle everything with the help of her husband, family and friends. Katie also is in the process of breeding horses called Kaydence Sport Horses and hopefully in the next couple years we will see them out competing at the upper levels. Katie is a true inspiration and we hope you enjoy getting to know Katie as much as we did!To follow Katie's journey:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100040874177684https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100087520742752Please support our sponsors:https://cowboymagic.com/https://manentailequine.com/https://exhibitorlabs.com/https://www.triplecrownfeed.com/Sign up for our mailing list!https://mailchi.mp/b232b86de7e5/majorleagueeventingllc?fbclid=IwAR2Wp0jijRKGwGU3TtPRN7wMo-UAWBwrUy2nYz3gQXXJRmSJVLIzswvtClECheckout the Major League Eventing store!https://www.majorleagueeventing.com/shop

The man is walking alone in the rain. He's not pacing, or trying to cover his face with his arm, he is just slowly walking in the rain. He looks like he's in the middle of a k-drama scene. To his left there is a whole wall of reporters just silently recording him. Waiting to see what he's going to do next. He gives them what they want. He collapses onto the ground and cries out to the skies. “My wife!” This is not just a random man having a mental breakdown. This is billionaire Fei. One of the “Young Masters of Beijing.” A group of billionaire boys who are known to be party playboys. His ex wife, Barbie, has just passed away. But why is he crying in the rain? Wasn't he the one that cheated on her? The one that was accused of being violent towards her? And why won't his billionaire mom stop trash talking Barbie on her livestreams - even after her death?
