What could you achieve if you refused to quit on your dreams? Born in a strict religious community, (politically correct term for a cult), Jessie Shedden encountered immense challenges growing up, including bullying for her appearance and dyslexia, sexual abuse, and an ever-increasing knowledge that life in the cult held no prospects for her. Jessie knew for 15 years that her dreams would mean she’d have to choose a life outside the one she knew. A life that restricted her freedoms and stifled her spirit as she grew up. Completely out of hope, and after surrendering her entire identity, she looked at her options: suicide, or a chance at a new life in an unknown world? In episode 36 of Nobody Knows Your Story, Jessie details the strict rules that she was forced to live by and how things weren’t what they seemed. Now having found her freedom, Jessie shares her emotional struggles and how she chose to handle them as she developed into who she is today. She’s lost no time in creating a life on her terms, with self-respect, justice and authenticity. HOST NOTE:As Jessie and I both grew up in high demand religions, we share our takes, discuss similarities, and look at opportunities for personal growth and self-expression throughout our hour together. Yeah, this interview hit a bit close to home.Find Jessie at:Facebook@jessiesheddenInstagram@jessiesheddenwww.jessieshedden.com

This week we talk with Jessie Mordine Young from New York City. Jessie is a textile curator, teacher and maker, primarily focusing on weaving and tufting. In some of her most recent bodies of work, Jessie responds to her time spent in rural landscapes. She spent time living in Ireland, a small village in Iceland and in the Adirondacks. Her time in secluded places left her feeling energized and inspired. After having months to engage in deep thought on her practice, sincere observance, and connection to her surroundings, a new series of woven work that reflects her meditative experience has emerged. Today's episode is very different, and I know I say this often but one of my favorites to date. Two of my designer besties and I talk shop in a roundtable discussion all about process. In today's episode, I chat with Jessie Kelly, of Jessica Kelly Design, and Carly Nemtean of Carriage Lane Design + Build and Co-founder of the Collective Workspace. Both of these successful ladies have been in the industry for years and have built their businesses on strong processes. Here's a fun fact, all three of us have strong processes to run our projects and businesses, but each one is unique. There is no process that is one-size-fits-all. Through the episode, Carly, Jessie, and I share how our businesses grew, how we came to find our niches, and how we developed our unique processes to fit our service type and clientele. Click to learn more about the Power of Process course. Registration closes on November 17 at 8:00 pm EST. Remember to register early and for ELITE for special bonuses. The traditional college visit presents the perfect opportunity to get a real feel for a school while demonstrating sincere interest. A virtual college visit is no different. Amy and Mike invited admissions consultant Jessie Peck Martin to explain how to make the most of a virtual college admissions event. What are five things you will learn in this episode? What, beyond the obvious, makes a virtual admissions event different from an on-campus admissions event? How do larger virtual college fairs differ from individual virtual visits? Why should all visits start with the student rather than the school? Who should be asking questions, and what questions are best? What is the best way to follow up after any college visit? MEET OUR GUESTS Jessie Peck Martin, M. Ed., founder of CompassU Educational Consulting, LLC, author of Three Things About College Admissions: I Wish Someone Had Told Me and creator of the College Admissions Made Simple Virtual Academy, earned a B.S. in Marketing and a Master’s degree in Education from Lehigh University (Go brown and white!). She launched CompassU Educational Consulting in 2014, bringing with her 25 years of experience in both classrooms and educational publishing. In 2019, Jessie was named a professional member of IECA and is a member of the New Jersey Association of College Admissions Counselors (NJACAC). Jessie visits an average of twenty colleges and schools annually. She also meets with admissions officers and colleagues and attends national conventions to stay up to date on the ever-shifting landscape of admissions. When she is not meeting with students Jessie is busy raising four children (and, so far, has launched two college graduates [University of Chicago ‘18, Lehigh University ‘19] and cheers her younger son and daughter on the slopes at boarding school [Stratton Mountain School ‘22, ‘24]), enjoys a yoga class here and there, cares for a sweet and needy Vizlsa and a crazy GSP, and volunteers around northwest New Jersey. When not coaching alpine ski racing or running his business, husband, Dave, is often an innocent bystander to the chaos. Find Jessie at http://www.jessiepeckmartin.com. This was an amazing conversation and I feel like I could talk to Jessie for hours. She has such an eloquent way of expressing things I love listening to her.
