It's January 1 and Outlouders know what that means. For almost a decade, on the first day of every year Mia Freedman, Jessie Stephens and Holly Wainwright have shared the single word that they hope will define the year ahead. In 2025, we went viral for a concept that was maybe a little too relatable – micropettiness. If you've been feeling slightly annoyed with loved ones over the holidays, maybe a little bit of micropettiness is perfectly acceptable for this time of year. Plus, hoarding, throwing, selling and Swedish death cleaning — we’re talking about 'stuff' and why what we do with it goes far deeper than just clearing clutter. We discuss why you either love having lots of things around you (or not) and the reasons why many people – particularly parents – hold onto random objects. If you’ve spent the past week surrounded by a growing pile of presents and wrapping paper, we think you’ll enjoy this conversation. It's not a usual show today, because it's not a usual day. At sunset on Sunday, at Australia's most famous beach, Australia experienced the worst act of terrorism ever to take place on our soil. As the local Jewish community celebrated the beginning of Chanukah, families gathered around food, face-painting and even a petting zoo for an 'everyone is welcome' opening to the Festival Of Lights. And two men opened fire. Some Outlouders will be directly affected by what happened on Sunday. Others will be far removed but asking how this could happen here in Australia, and what they can do to help. Some will just want to talk it over. Today Mia Freedman, Jessie Stephens, Holly Wainwright and Amelia Lester are here to do exactly that. When do ‘preventative’ injections cross the line and start making you look older? Can wearing a bra to bed really prevent sagging? And do you need to see a gynaecologist if you've never had sex? In this episode, we speak to Consultant Dermatologist and Specialist Cosmetic Injector, Dr Cara McDonald to get the truth about anti-ageing, skincare ingredients and cosmetic procedures. She gives her expert rating (out of 10) for the most popular skincare ingredients - from your hyaluronic acids to your retinoids - and if they’re really that great in the fight against ageing. We cover everything from why the operator is more important than the device, the dangers of over-filling and when removing all movement from your face can actually backfire… Dr Mariam breaks down the serious risks of ‘cosmetic tourism’, the differences between a ‘Plastic Surgeon’ and ‘cosmetic surgeon’ and how to identify a properly credentialed practitioner. Plus, we settle the "to bra in bed or not to bra in bed" debate, and whether it has any proven impact on sagging. And, in our quick consult, Dr Mariam answers a listener’s question about whether you still need to see that doctor if you've never done the deed. It's the time of the year when you have to rub up against other people in all kinds of ways. And so obviously Jessie, Holly and Em needed to bring an updated etiquette guide. So, what's a great question, what's a rude one and do you always, always need to give a gift receipt? And, are you struggling to make a big decision about the new year? Of course you are. Performers are totally over it, and their end-of-year burnout is highly relatable content. But also, are we, the crowds, worse than we've ever been? This week a 90s rock legend ripped into a concert-goer at a Melbourne show and we want to know — do any of us know how to behave any more? And, in what seems like very unsurprising news, adult content creator Bonnie Blue has been arrested in Bali. But why did she take her 'bang bus' there in the first place? Plus, scams. Amelia has a scam story that will make your hair stand on end, Holly says fears of being ripped-off make holiday shopping harder than battling traffic at the carpark and Jessie wonders what living in an era of mass distrust is doing to us all. Also, Pammy and Liam, Katy and Justin, Kylie and Timmmeeee — we're bringing you the celebrity romance and fauxmance updates not one of us asked for. Oh, and bananas. Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift never fight. Nor do George and Amal Clooney. Not about work, money, cleaning, travel or whose turn it is to feed the dog (sorry, cats.) An aspirational relationship goal? Or a flashing red flag? Also, this week the whole world is looking at Australia as our world-first social media delay kicks in on Wednesday, December 10. So, what are we to make of the poll that says only a third of Aussie parents are actually going to enforce the ban that experts are calling "a mothers' revolution"? Plus, Oprah Winfrey is in Australia and drawing huge crowds with her trademark a-ha moments. So why is Oprah still so interesting to Aussie women in 2025? And, there's a very relevant Word of The Year, and a very intimidating Colour Of The Year, and Amelia, Jessie and Holly have a theory that they're linked. Also, Pilates is dead, strength training is on its way out and a mobility obsession is on its way in - but, Amelia asks, is scolding people with the "correct" exercise trends really the way to make women move? So there's a young, handsome man who's suddenly all over our feeds. Some people say he's going to save America. Others say he's just a very good example of how charisma is the only thing that matters in a politician for the digital age. All we want to know about Zohran Mamdani is: What does he want from us? Also, Reese Witherspoon says the reason we're so bad at dating these days is because we're not watching rom-coms any more. Jessie, Amelia and Holly unpack some of the helpful dating tips they've got from rom-coms and ask: Were we really better at talking to each other in the Sweet Home Alabama era? And, 'smellmaxxing' and its unknowable limits. Now that your average 14-year-old boy has his own 'fragrance wardrobe' and we've all very much accepted that we stink, it was only a matter of time until there was a deodorant for everywhere, including 'down there'. The royal formerly known as "Prince" Andrew is only Andrew now. In what's being called 'the greatest crisis the royal family has faced in 100 years', the King has banished his brother after the distress and noise around his behaviour finally became too loud for even the insulated royals to ignore. So what now? Will it shut down critics and accusers, or just open the flood gates? Also, is it just plain embarrassing to admit to having a boyfriend now? The most viral essay of the past week says YES, so why's that? And: the politics of a pair of untethered breasts. Why Sydney Sweeney's new version of the naked dress has everyone confused. It's news-free Friday so unpacking Buckingham Palace's announcement about Prince Andrew (let's make that just plain Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, shall we?) will have to wait until Monday when rest assured we'll be going in deep. In the meantime...Our Em’s had enough of men playing it cool. On today's episode of MMOL, she’s responding to the Outlouders feedback on her dating life and officially campaigning for less nonchalance and more chalant male energy — attentive, enthusiastic, maybe even a little whisper this keen. And things that have tickled our fancy. We’re rawdogging boredom, dissecting the rise of the Hybrid Rockstar (Hyrox, anyone?), and spotlighting the Halloween comment that officially finished us all off.
Are celebrities oversharing about their splits? Nicole Kidman's keeping it classic - sending us subliminal messages through clothes (see: revenge dress). Lily Allen is being extremely 2025 by putting her Notes-app confessions to music. But why are we being kept so clearly in the loop of some very private business? Welcome to a slightly unhinged conspiracy theory about the strategic advantage of spilling divorce tea and yes, it involves real estate. Also, is cutting out friendships the ultimate life hack? Some of the trad wives certainly think so, saying they've given birth to and married the only friends they need. And there are some Australian workplaces having some particularly awkward meetings today - the schools that set the wrong subject for the HSC exam, and... the BOM. What colour is drizzle, anyway? Season 2 of Nobody Wants This has finally dropped — but one of our hosts is far too distracted by Kristen Bell’s latest Instagram post to care.
