Science seems to be an area that some are not very confident with, so his  to help that. Dr Rob Bell's background is science first then some teaching, so his really all about inspiring a love of science, and getting your hands on it is a good way.  There are a range of levels within Experimentary. The content is designed for Elementary up to middle school aged children, but the open ended inquiries can be taken as far as the child likes really. For the parents, they can let the kids help themselves (self-serve student mode) or they can assign the appropriate experiments based on what they are studying. The equipment is almost all around the home or very easy to get, no fancy lab stuff (though that is fun too).  Top three takeaways  How Robert discovered that there are a lot of families who homeschool in Australia.   You can tie so much more into a science experiment than just the science curriculum. That is often the real advantage.   Using the fun experiments to open up a whole lot of other bits of learning.  Call to Action  Experimentary Website    What is Next!  Thank you for supporting this show by listening and sharing with friends! Pat Torpey, baterista y miembro fundador de la banda de rock Mr. Big, falleció el 7 de febrero de 2018 a los 64 años, debido a complicaciones de su enfermedad de Parkinson. Pat Torpey también tocó con John Parr, Belinda Carlisle, Robert Plant, Ronnie Montrose, Richie Kotzen y The Knack. Torpey fue diagnosticado con Parkinson en 2014, pero aún tocaba con Mr. Big como corista y contribuía a la percusión. Het zal je maar overkomen dat je een ernstige ziekte hebt die dag in dag uit weegt op je levenskwaliteit. Maar omdat je ziekte een zeldzame ziekte is, is er nog niet veel onderzoek naar gedaan. Laat staan dat er een medicijn voor bestaat. En wanneer er dan eindelijk toch een geneesmiddel op de markt komt, blijkt het zo goed als onbetaalbaar. Wie moet die 200 000 euro voor jouw medicijn betalen? Jijzelf, of de overheid? Prof. dr. Wim Pinxten, medisch ethicus aan de UHasselt, neemt ons mee door deze complexe discussie. Helena is 39 years old and manages institutional policy, and compliance training, at SUNY FIT.  She enjoys cooking...and eating (a favorite activity that creates, and helps recall, the best memories).  She paints, and is also an avid reader and writer, but still enjoys a good TV binge.  A seasoned rider since childhood, on nice days you may also find Helena outside on horseback. Her three-syllable name also seamlessly replaces ‘Sharona's' in the 1979 Knack hit, “My Sharona.” Go ahead, sing it, she dares you. Rheumatoid Disease, Fibromyalgia, Asthma, Adenomyosis, and a rare but threatening kidney disorder present a host of physical and mental challenges for her daily life and work. She has been battling chronic illnesses since her teens which render her immunocompromised, in pain, fatigued, and has fought her way back from an almost terminal medical crisis. Helena has learned to strike delicate balances in order to live with her illnesses: listening to her body, but not allowing it to rule her life; grieving her body but allowing herself to celebrate the things it can still do (she's very active, and works out five days a week, when possible); not complaining but making sure to educate people on the very real struggles she and people like her face.  She's been dedicating her time advocating for those who struggle with chronic illness by starting a diversity and inclusion initiative at work to call specific attention to the 1 in 4 Americans who struggle with a disability and what that means for ableism and an office environment. She's also working with her partner to raise money for a local chapter of the Fibromyalgia Care Society of America, an organization that helps people (and their communities) manage their lifestyles with Fibromyalgia. In October 2022, the TKO Strong Foundation honored her with the TKO Strong Award which is intended to recognize the strength of those who overcome obstacles in the face of adversity and who, through compassion, clarity, insights, and contributions, inspire others to have the courage, dignity, and faith to look past the diagnosis and live life to the fullest.  Helena is an avid public speaker, having presented workshops at the state, regional, and national levels, and sometimes takes her show on the road for more intimate workshops in the professional environment. Her sessions and workshops focus on the relationships between personal and professional growth, and have been informed by trends she's noticed throughout her professional career. They aim to help people sharpen their self-awareness, and realize how certain patterns can not only affect them on a personal level, but also professionally as team members or leaders.  By using biology and psychology to gain a better understanding of why we think the way we do, Helena identifies patterns in our behavior that are innate but yet do not serve us well – and then she aims to help break them. Helena enjoys utilizing an interactive approach to help question the ‘norms' we already think we believe, and then reshapes them to align more closely with what we actually need in order to be more effective, happier, satisfied, people and employees. Her sessions become unifying and liberating as attendees realize we all have the same “abnormal” thoughts together, and come to understand there is hope for change. My guest this week is Lenise Bent, who was one of a handful of women working in the Hollywood recording studio business in a technical role during the 1970s, and was the first woman to receive an RIAA Platinum album for her engineering of AutoAmerican by Blondie. While working as an assistant at Village Recorder, Lenise worked on a number of classic albums, including Aja by Steely Dan, Breakfast In America by Supertramp, and Tusk by Fleetwood Mac. She then became chief engineer for producer Mike Chapman, working on albums by Blondie, The Knack and Suzi Quatro. Lenise eventually moved over to post-production sound where she worked as a sound editor, sound supervisor and re-recording mixer on films like Shrek, Spirit and Shrek 2. During the interview we spoke about her getting her start as an assistant at Village Recorders, working on Steely Dan's Aja Album, being chief engineer for producer Mike Chapman, getting sick from the intense work schedule, starting back at the bottom in post, and much more. I spoke with Lenise from her office in Los Angeles via zoom. On the intro I'll take a look at how Metal continues to thrive, and the death of the key change in modern music. var podscribeEmbedVars = { epId: 84272927, backgroundColor: 'white', font: undefined, fontColor: undefined, speakerFontColor: undefined, height: '600px', showEditButton: false, showSpeakers: true, showTimestamps: true };

Another customer had inquired about Knack, which I had never heard of either. Not only that, it's an online database that appears to assemble its "tables" from data stored in other systems. Debbie Wilcox is from Honolulu, HI, where she and her husband previously owned and operated a swimming pool business. After 30 years of running their business together, they decided to act on their shared dream of becoming multifamily real estate investors. They uprooted their lives, sold their dream home, and headed for the mainland to attend conferences, network, and soak up as much knowledge as they possibly could.    Today, Debbie is the managing partner of Blue Rock Capital Group, which helps investors build and generate passive income through multifamily real estate. She is a co-GP of 33 units in Idaho and an LP of 2,400 units across seven states. In this episode, Debbie tells us what inspired her to leave Hawaii in pursuit of a career in multifamily, why she is adamant about getting out of her comfort zone, and how her background in business has driven her to explore asset management.    “I had to ask my husband, ‘Do you want to live in our dream home, or do you want to live our dream life?'”   1. Uprooting Everything to Pursue Multifamily Debbie and her husband owned their own swimming pool business in Honolulu for 30 years before moving to California to pursue multifamily. Debbie says that thoughts of changing careers began to crop up as early as 10 years ago, but limiting beliefs prevented them from making a change. Then, one day, they stumbled upon some real estate podcasts, and they began listening.    “What inspired me was listening to the stories of people that I felt were just like me — kind of feeling stuck,” Debbie says. “And maybe they were older just like myself, but they didn't let that stop them.”    She and her husband spent the next few years learning as much as they could, and when they were ready, they did the unthinkable — they sold their home and left Hawaii to set down roots on the mainland, where they could more easily attend conferences, find partners, and oversee properties.   2. Escaping Her Comfort Zone Debbie is a big believer that success lies just outside of her comfort zone. She admits that networking can be a challenge for her, and even scary sometimes, but she doesn't let that stop her. “If I'm initially scared to do something, I get a little tingly, but I think, ‘Ah, this must be right. This must be good. I'm supposed to do this.'” By applying this mindset at her first conference, she met the people who would eventually bring her in on her first deal.   3. A Knack for Asset Management Debbie assumed that she and her husband would take on the role of raising capital for their deals, but much to their surprise, they developed a strong interest in asset management. “That 30 years in business looking at spreadsheets and budgets and income expenses — we find ourselves diving into that quite a bit,” she says.    For the time being, they are enjoying pitching in on the asset management side of things, I think it's good, in the beginning, to have your toes in a little bit of everything,” she says. “We really just want to learn as much as possible.”      Debbie Wilcox | Real Estate Background Managing partner of Blue Rock Capital Group, which helps investors build and generate passive income through multifamily real estate.   Get ready for a powerful O3L...and not just because we're talking about '80s power pop. This week, we are very pleased to welcome Renee Schyjer, wife, muse and soulmate of rockin', rollin', power-poppin', wild feline frontman Freddy Moore.   Whether you know him as Freddy, his Midwest alter ego Skogie or mild-mannered offstage Rick, Frederick Moore was quite possibly the biggest rock star you've never heard of. Freddy had it at all. The looks, the charisma, the chops, the songs.   In the late '60s and early '70s, his band Skogie and the Flaming Pachucos reached local stardom and small-scale Beatle-level adulation. After moving to LA in the late '70s, they evolved into The Kats (and later The Nu-Kats). The Kats sold out every major club in Los Angeles, from Madame Wong's to the Whiskey to the Starwood to the Troubadour, headlining alongside bands like The Police, The Knack and The Motels. The Kats were offered dozens of record deals. They turned down every single one. KISS's Gene Simmons wanted to manage them. He was married at the time to a rising movie star named Demi Moore. Yes, Freddy seemingly had it all...yet rock n' roll stardom eluded him.   In 2014, Moore received the frightening diagnosis that he had developed early-onset Alzheimer's. With Renee's tireless love, help and research, Rick was able to hold onto his memories as long as he could to share them with the world.   Co-written with Shannon Guyton, the result is It's Not A Rumour, an unorthodox, hysterical story of survival, and making it big in music without ever making a dime. It's an "almost famous" chronicle woven together with lyrics, photos, and memorabilia. It's Not A Rumour is available from Amazon or other fine retailers.   In between booking Renee on the show and our release, Frederick Moore passed away on August 25, 2022. We dedicate this episode to his memory, and hope it is the celebration of life, love and music that he deserves.   Hear more of Freddy Moore's music at: http://demophonic.com/   In the O3L Spotlight this week is a Philadelphia-based band that WRKC's DJ Calc hipped us to, The Tisburys. We play "Language of Luxury" from their latest album, the gutsily titled Exile On Main Street. It's a great record touched by the influence of Springsteen, The Replacements, modern indie rock, '90s college rock and power pop.
