Pastor Sean will be preaching from Genesis 40:1-23. We're over a decade along in Joseph's descent down to the pit, down to Egypt, and down to prison. This continues to be a long, difficult valley in the providence of God. And yet, as Joseph's journey continues, we see Yahweh supply him with everything needed along every step of the way. This gives us confidence to trust God for ourselves and His covenant people in any challenging circumstances we encounter. Originally recorded July 3, 2022.

Daniel 8:1-27 William Cowper's masterful poem-turned hymn, God Moves in a Mysterious Way, has been a source of comfort to me over the years, especially during seasons of pain and confusion. Over the course of four months, our son Nathan was hospitalized with COVID, my mother almost died, and a dear friend of mine suffered critical head injuries recently. It has been the first three verses in Cowper's poem that I have thought most about over the past four months: The post Behind a Frowning Providence appeared first on Meadowbrooke Church.

When we examine the lives of giants of the Christian faith, we often see men and women plagued by troubles and sadness. How did these exemplary figures persevere under the weight of depression they often experienced? They all believed in the goodness of a sovereign God who was working all things for their good and His glory. This is the theme of the book of Ruth: despite intense suffering, there is a God in Heaven who works, in even the most ordinary, everyday circumstances, to bring about the greatest good for His people. Naomi is such a saint, and as we traverse this book, we'll see how an understanding of, not only God's bitter providence, but also His sweet providence, will transform her from bitter to joyous. Join me today as I discuss how to pursue joy when things don't go the way we plan.
In Acts 18:1-17, a lot of people feel God's "frowning providence." They face suffering, sometimes for Christ's sake; other times they're just caught up in evil that is being perpetrated in general. But, in this chapter we see God's purposes ripening as he sovereignly works through their distress to build his kingdom.

There is Someone behind the scenes working circumstance to His infinite wisdom. God is doing this in your life, right now. Every detail, every instance, every crossed path, and every dead end. But that is not so easy to see. One must look from the distance of history in order to see the finger-print of... The post Episode 03 – Frowning Providence appeared first on Forgotten.

Psalm 44 Psalm 44 helps us orient our response to tragedy and uncertainty in a Godward direction. When faced with trial and honest frustration, how do we avoid the hope-blindness of distrust in God's covenant faithfulness? By reminding ourselves of the inseparable love of God toward us in Christ Jesus his Son.
