Jesus tells a little story with big impact. Luke 8: 16-17, “No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or hides it under a bed. A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house. For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.” Imagine a dark room where you can see nothing. You light a lamp so you can find your way around. How ridiculous would it be to cover that light up and stumble your way through darkness again? You have light now – use it! Jesus is reminding us that he has put his light in us. And his light within us is meant to be seen. Here’s where we get this twisted – we make this about us. Girl, this isn’t about you. This isn’t about others seeing you, noticing you, or liking you. This is about others seeing JESUS IN YOU. The lamp doesn’t say, “Look at me, look at me, I’m so glorious.” No, the lamp simply shines the glorious light it has from within. The lamp doesn’t create the light – the lamp CARRIES THE LIGHT. You don’t have to manufacture God’s light. You don’t have to become impressive. You don’t have to have your life perfectly together. You simply have to stop hiding what God is doing in you. What is God doing within you? If you’ve surrendered your heart and mind to him, he’s changing you. Can you see how he’s rewritten your desires to align with his desires? Can you see how he’s realigned your priorities? Can you see how he’s changed the way you see people and respond to situations? This is the literal work of 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun.” Do you see how Jesus’ work within you is making you a new person? Can others see it? THAT’S WHAT JESUS IS TELLING US! Let me light something within you that everyone can see. Don’t hide it – let it shine! Does anyone else look back on their journey and cringe at who they once were? Y’all, I disgust my own self. My number 1 goal was to own a private jet. My number 2 goal was to look ridiculously good in my private jet. And you know what I see when I look back on this journey – God was so incredibly patient and gracious with me. While I was growing materialistic and self-absorbed, he was absolutely determined to relentlessly chip away at my heart and recreate me. Now, the deepest desires of my heart are to have an old 1970’s Volkswagon bus where I can roadtrip to a parking lot near you, invite you to come sit down with me for coffee and a devotional, then we lock arms that day and go serve together in your community. I just want to hit the streets with you and shine Jesus in dark places. I want to get my hands dirty. I want to hit my knees. I want to sweat with hard work right along side you that makes a difference. I want my heart to break for the things that break God’s heart and actively do something about it. I want to dance and celebrate and relentlessly cheer for the good things God is doing. And then I want to hop back in my old 1970’s Volkswagon bus and roam around with God to find the next Jesus follower who wants to hop in for some coffee and live devotional and go out on another mission opportunity in their community. This is what Jesus has done in me. He changed me. He changed my desires. He changed my goals. He changed my priorities. I went from wanting a jet to an old van and a mission roadtrip. What has he done in you? What is he DOING in you? Don’t hide it – let it shine! Jesus warns of the danger of the bowl or the bed. He says, “No one lights a lamp and then COVERS it with a bowl or HIDES it under a bed. What’s your bowl? What’s your bed? It’s the things that try to cover or hide the light of Jesus within you. • It’s fear. Fear says hide while Jesus says SHINE. Then your fear becomes the bowl that hides that Jesus light in you. • It’s comfort. Sometimes it’s not that you’re really afraid, it’s just that you’re so darn comfortable as you are. God’s been nudging you to do something, but doing nothing is just easier. God’s been telling you to go, but you’ve been thinking maybe later you’ll do it. God’s been telling you to say something, but you’re just hoping someone else will speak up. Then you know what – your comfort becomes the bed where you lay and hide that Jesus light underneath it. • It’s shame. Shame whispers secrets of the past to us. Shame tells us we’re not worthy. Shame throws every bowl it can find over that Jesus light so the real you isn’t revealed. But there’s one thing you need to remind your shame – Your testimony was never ‘Look how good I’ve been’ – your testimony is forever ‘Look what Jesus has done.’ The darkest places in your life are actually where that Jesus light shines best! You know what else is the bowl trying to cover that Jesus light in you, or the bed trying to hide his light … • It’s busyness. Oh that sneaky little sucker that will slip right into our days and just make us so busy doing a thousand things, but still be hiding the light. We’re busy. We’re accomplished. We’re looking good. But we are so distracted that we aren’t actually showing the light of Jesus to the very people God has placed all around us. That’s my biggest bowl right there. I just get too busy. And my busyness will cover the light of Jesus in me and I’m just leaving people in their darkness instead of just showing them Jesus. Are you doing this too? Let’s get rid of these bowls that try to cover the light of Jesus in us. Let’s banish the beds that try to hide his light. Girls, let’s let what he has put within us SHINE! Matthew 5:16 says: “Let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Notice what Jesus doesn’t say: “…so everyone will praise you.” He says: “…so everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” That’s the whole point. We don’t shine so people will see us. We shine so people can see Him. That’s a powerful test for our lives: When people encounter me, do they see more of me—or more of Jesus? Your job isn’t to create the light. Your job is to carry it. And your job isn’t to make people admire the lamp. Your job is to make sure the lamp isn’t covered. Jesus, where do You want Your light to shine through me today? And then pay attention. Your life is someone’s opportunity to see Jesus. Don’t hide the light. Carry it. Let it shine. And when somebody sees something different in you, you don’t point to yourself. You point to Jesus. A few years ago I learned a prayer that Mother Theresa would pray every single day. I put that prayer in my notes and began praying it daily myself. It’s not magic words – it’s just a reminder to throw the bowl away and move the bed out so the LIGHT OF JESUS CAN SHINE. Here’s the prayer and how I say it: Dear Jesus, help me to spread your fragrance everywhere I go. Flood my soul with your spirit and life. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that my life may only be a radiance of yours. Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel your presence in my soul. Let them look up and no longer see me, but only you, Jesus. Shine on others through me.
Let me praise you in the way you love best, by shining on those around me. Let me preach YOU without preaching, not by words but by example of everything I do in love for you. Amen. In this solo episode of Interlinks, I explore the difference between resilience and endurance. Businesses and supply chains may continue to perform through disruption, but that does not necessarily mean they are resilient. Endurance is the ability to keep going through a demanding event; resilience is about the condition in which you emerge from it — whether you can recover, adapt and retain the capacity to respond again.I look at how organisations can maintain performance for long periods by drawing on hidden reserves: management attention, employee goodwill, workarounds, deferred investment and constant firefighting. Over time, this can consume what I describe as the organisation's resilience margin and create resilience debt in people, processes, assets, decisions and capability. The warning signs often appear at the micro level in burnout, delayed projects, overloaded managers, recurring exceptions and growing dependence on individual effort.From a Macro-to-Micro Strategy perspective, this distinction matters because strong macro performance can conceal serious strain underneath. The goods may still move, customers may still be served and headline results may still look healthy, while the organisation itself is becoming more brittle. True resilience should show up at the micro level in fewer workarounds, clearer ownership, protected capacity, lower burnout and the ability to face disruption repeatedly without risking service failure, resignation or loss of critical capability. The dog owns exactly one job, the trained behavior; the handler owns everything else.By week's end, students are setting their own hides, and handling that once looked frantic becomes nearly invisible. As a third generation Angelino, Hannah Einbinder reps her city hard. “I pledge allegiance to the United States of Los Angeles,” she declared proudly to Chloe on the latest episode of The Run-Through podcast, “I love LA from the tip to the tail.” Right now, Einbinder is making the rounds on one of her biggest press tours to date ahead of the premiere of Jane Schoenbrun's third tongue twister of a film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. Einbinder stars as Kris, a young queer director, who is working on a revival of a slasher horror franchise. Prior to working on the project, slashers were a bit of a blindspot for Einbinder, though she was well-versed in the great horror genre and cited Silent Hill as the scariest movie she's seen.  “I see a huge link between comedy and horror,” Einbinder observed, noting that this film is as funny as it is scary, “I think that it kind of creates the same thing in the body, like this buildup of tension with this big release. I think that's why you see so many, like, comedians go in that direction. Like, you look at Jordan Peele and that, to me, makes so much sense.”  Along those lines, Einbinder pointed out that Schoenbrun actually has a comedy background and did sketch comedy at UCB many moons ago. The two of them became quite close working on the film, which like Schoenbrun's prior film, I Saw The TV Glow, is a work of autofiction and an allegory for queerness and transition. This film required them to explore topics of dissociation relative to sex. “I feel like many of us have not taken the time to examine how universal it is.”  Einbinder hasn't yet settled on her look for the premiere, but she is already considering how she is going to accessorize. She intends to visit a New York City based nail artist who uses the moniker claws by joy to get a bloody, slasher style manicure.  As a major Hacks fan, Chloe also brought up her favorite duo: Ava Daniels and Deborah Vance. While the show has reached its conclusion, she and Jean Smart are in regular contact and sharing memes. “She's absolutely out of control,” Einbinder said of Smart's meme sharing tendencies.   Einbinder won her first Emmy for the series back in the fall and when asked where she displays it, she sheepishly revealed that she keeps it tucked away. She explained that her grandfather was a decorated war hero and when he passed, the family found all of his medals in a manila envelope in a drawer. “And so I kinda figure if, like, if that guy's not putting his stuff out,” she said trailing off, “I thought he was so swag for doing that.” The Run-Through with Vogue is your go-to podcast where fashion meets culture. As lightning strikes and kills a bull in the herd, the animals scatter in panic, threatening to crush the hunters and their heavily loaded supply wagons. The men are forced to make a desperate run through the blinding rain and mud, barely escaping the thundering herd when the storm runoff carves out a massive rut in the earth, redirecting the buffalo away from their path and slowing the animals down in a nearby river.The following day, after the storm passes, the hunters venture out onto the prairie to survey the aftermath, following the winding, crooked trails left by the buffalo. Along the way, they witness the grim reality of the hide-hunting trade, coming across hundreds of decaying carcasses and spoiled hides left behind to rot by other hunters. After continuing their hunt for two more weeks to fulfill their quota of 557 hides, they haul their haul back to Fort Hays to collect their pay. Sanjeev has spent his whole career on one question: how do you change an economic system using markets?Sanjeev was born in Bangalore in pre-liberalization India and moved to Grosse Pointe, Michigan, at age nine — his first time ever on a plane. He studied development economics, transferred to the London School of Economics, and joined JPMorgan just in time to watch the dot-com boom collapse from the inside. His team in Europe went from 120 people to 15. He was one of the 15 who kept their job.What came next taught him how capital really works in the physical world: building mobile networks across Africa, cutting the cost of a Hepatitis B vaccine by roughly 80–90% at the World Bank's IFC, and five hard years inside “clean tech 1.0,” watching good companies fail for reasons that had nothing to do with their technology. That, Sanjeev argues, is the real gap.Every great transition needed a financial invention first. The joint stock company made oceanic trade possible. Bond syndicates built the railroads. The venture partnership funded the microchip. In each case someone built the financial container before the future arrived.Impact does not have to be concessionary. At the IFC, his team helped cut the cost of a Hepatitis B vaccine by roughly 80–90% — from $2.50 a vial — while margins stayed above 60–70%. Cheaper, faster, better, and profitable at the same time.Invest at the seams. The best opportunities sit between asset classes and between sectors, where a typical energy investor would dismiss it and a food investor would call it something else — so nobody underwrites it.Climate is a 10,000-year economic megatrend, not a moral crusade. Humans take useful energy and turn it into useful materials — fire, agriculture, fossil fuels. And the next chapter will still be extractive: it needs copper, cobalt, nickel, lithium.Busts are where the returns are made. You learn more in the bust cycles than the boom cycles. Markets overshoot both ways, and the companies that survive get forced into product-market fit and a real P&L.The oceans are the least measured part of the planet. We know more about space. The Mediterranean Sea accounts for less than 1% of the world's ocean surface water, but it contains roughly 18% of global marine biodiversity. It is home to 150 million people along its coastline (roughly equivalent to Russia's population). And it sequesters 17.2 million metric tons of CO2 each year. Joining the Newscast this week to talk about the unique biodiversity of the Mediterranean Sea and its threats is journalist Manuela Callari. Callari has written for Mongabay, highlighting the threats to purple sea urchins (Paracentrotus lividus) along the Italian coast. These marine invertebrates are crucial to the health of marine ecosystems, such as those in the Mediterranean, by helping regulate algal abundance and serving as food for predators. However, they are being overfished and even poached in marine protected areas due to demand for them as the primary ingredient in a popular tourist dish: spaghetti ai ricci di mare. While the situation with urchins persists, Italy has been investing in an unprecedented effort to map its entire underwater coastline using deployed sensors to better understand the marine environment and manage conservation efforts. This is allowing them to identify where meadows of the seagrass Posidonia oceanica, which are "absolutely vital" to the Mediterranean ecosystem, persist, Callari says. Overall, Callari says she wishes the rest of the world and tourists visiting the Mediterranean were more informed about the pressures the marine ecosystem faces. "I grew up here, and now that I go back to certain places where I was as a child, and they are just completely different places to me. Places that were just nature and were difficult to access. Now they have very easy access on cars, buses. You can go on boat tours very easily. And I think we don't appreciate enough the impact that has on the environment. On the sea." One of the most common misconceptions about child sexual abuse is the belief that children always know they're being abused. The reality is often far more complicated. In this episode, I sit down with Susan Bisaha, a licensed professional counselor, survivor of clergy sexual abuse, and author of And The Lotus Shall Rise: My Journey Through Clergy Sex Abuse. Susan shares the deeply personal story of being sexually abused by a trusted priest over the course of seven years while never fully understanding that what was happening to her was abuse. As a child, she simply didn't possess the life experience or developmental understanding to recognize that someone she trusted was manipulating and exploiting her. It wasn't until years later, while working with a therapist, that she finally came to understand the truth about what she had endured. Having investigated child sexual assault cases for many years, I've seen firsthand that Susan's experience is far from unique. Children often rely on trusted adults to define what is normal, appropriate, and safe. When that trust is intentionally violated by an offender, confusion can become one of the lasting consequences, delaying recognition and disclosure for years or even decades. Susan's story is both heartbreaking and hopeful. It reminds us that a child's inability to recognize abuse never changes the reality of what occurred, nor does it lessen the responsibility of the offender. Her journey from confusion to understanding, and ultimately to healing, offers hope to survivors who may still be trying to make sense of their own experiences. I believe this is a conversation every survivor, loved one, and professional working with victims should hear.
